A little disappointed with burger and especially fries today. Just not as good. Fries were over cooked. When I ate them they were hollow??

I discovered this mobile hot dog cart business on Facebook a month or so ago. I love a good hot…read moredog and I love a local business, so I knew I had to chase them down and try one for myself. The menu is simple but highly creative. You can build your own hot dog with a variety of toppings (classics, like ketchup or mustard, are free; premium, like peppers and onions or pineapple relish, are .75 cents) or you can order one of the chef's specialty dogs. By default, the dogs are enormous, savory, and all beef, but you can change to a sausage dog for an upcharge if that's more your flavor. Specialty dogs run between $7-$8, depending on the number and type of toppings. Each one is named after an iconic or well traveled road in Huntsville, which is a great tie-in to their name and theme. You can buy chips on the side, but we all found the dogs to be a more than ample lunchtime meal, and worth the price. My parents and I had the 431 (pineapple relish, bacon bits, peppers and onions), the South Parkway (a tricked out chili cheese), and the Monte Sano (brown mustard, kraut, pickle relish, bacon bits). Each one was delish, piled high with toppings, and made fresh to order. It's obvious the owner is thoughtful and particular about the toppings. The bacon bits were real, freshly chopped, crispy and fatty bacon -- not the kind you buy in a package at the store. Astoundingly, the buns held up to all the goodies piled on top. If you're too intimated to eat with your hands, forks and a multitude of napkins are at your disposal. The owner was there slinging dogs himself and we had a good time chatting with him. He and his wife run the operation by themselves, and it's nice to see and interact directly with the people who benefit from your business. He was very nice and did an excellent job preparing our food and telling us about his product. You can reliably find their weekly schedule posted on Facebook. They're often at Parkway Scrubs for lunch and also appear at local breweries and events for dinner, but don't take my word for it -- find their page and hunt down this cool little cart.

I didn't have high expectations, but I would definitely go back. The burger was perfectly cooked and juicy. The fries good. I shared a burger with my friend and they didn't have knives to cut it with. That was a little annoying.

We were served a giant grilled chicken sandwich. It looked delish. That was our bad too. The chicken looked like it had seasoning on it, maybe it was just crud from the grill, but this was definitely an unseasoned piece of chicken. We both ordered grilled mushrooms and onions. Those didn't even help the flavor. We moved on to honey mustard, trying to save the sandwich. Unfortunately, the sauce did nothing but make the bun fall apart. We now had a flavorless mess to deal with - eat it or trash it. My husband chose "eat it" because he hates to see food wasted. He complained with almost every bite. I chose "trash it" - I'm too old to eat things I don't like. There were numerous sides available - fries, tots, o-rings, cheese curds and fried pickles. We opted for the rings to share. For just over $4, we received 6 onion rings. They weren't anything special at all - just a rip-off. My husband and I have gotten into the habit of rating every meal - luckily he's generous with the stars when I'm cooking! We had waffled a little but decided on a three. That's until we went to the restroom to wash our hands. The woman's room obviously hadn't had a good, deep cleaning in quite some time. It's beyond the point of a couple paper towels and a bottle of windex. My husband said the men's room wasn't the best either. That three stars suddenly became a hard 2. Wayback Burgers is convenient for us, their loyalty program is pretty straightforward and coupons are not too difficult to find. Unfortunately, the food and cleanliness just made all of those positives nill.

I saw these guys on Tennessee Valley Living and have been eager to find them since! They wanted to bring a Chicago style hot dog cart experience to their new home here and I'm glad they did! My family and I caught them at Das Stahl while playing trivia a couple of weeks ago, but they keep their schedule up to date on Instagram and on their website. They're also available for private events and catering. They serve hot dogs, of course, as well as large soft pretzels and some fabulous WvB merchandise -- I still need to buy my shirt! When we visited, they had a specialty dog (kind of a taco dog -- taco meat, salsa, tortilla chips) and brats for sale too. My dad had a brat, I'm pretty sure my mom had a chili dog, and my husband and I both got your standard ("Arsenal") dog with our choice of toppings. My parents also shared a pretzel, which I probably would've gone for too had they had a dipping sauce other than nacho cheese, as that's not my favorite. That being said, I stole a hunk of my parents' pretzel and found it agreeably soft and pleasingly salty, exactly as one would expect! Service was just one fellow manning the cart and they were pretty busy, so the line was a little slow, but he was super pleasant and working hard! Prices are also maybe a touch high ($5 for a standard dog, $6-8 for anything more involved), but what else is new in the current economy? It's nice to support local and it's certainly convenient! Hubs and I enjoyed our dogs -- very nice pleasantly beefy taste and cooked to perfection, with artfully applied condiments that covered every inch! Buns were soft and not at all stale. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for this cart in the future! Hoping to grab a shirt at some upcoming event. :)
