Golden Greek Restaurant & Pub - BBQ chicken potato skins

I wanted to like this restaurant more than I ended up doing so. I went for the prime rib and was…read morehappy to learn that the soup and salad bar came with it. I also got some BBQ chicken potato skins. The restaurant itself is very pleasant, a large interior that you wouldn't guess from the outside. It has a cozy ambiance, and it has a very local feel as a lot of the other customers and the staff seemed to know each other. The staff are also super friendly and there wasn't much time between any time I needed something and receiving it. The soup and salad bar is on the menu for $15 standalone and I'm not sure the limited variety warrants that, but as a part of the meal it was just enough. I really enjoyed the beef and bean soup, though the New England clam chowder was pretty bland. The salad bar was well kept and had enough to make a solid salad. The prime rib came out before the potato skins appetizer, so that was odd, but at least you know the kitchen isn't holding dishes up under a heat lamp. The potato skins were alright but the chicken was pretty dry and nothing I'd order again. The real disappointment was the prime rib. My knife wasn't sharp enough to get through the rubbery skin that surrounded it, rather than having a nice seasoned crust. The meat was firm and fairly flavorless, and the au jus that came with it didn't add anything either. The whole preparation needed more salt, pepper, herbs, and maybe a touch of aging to let it penetrate. The mashed potatoes and gravy, similarly, were bland and unenjoyable. I can say the menu is broad, so you may find something else on it, but I don't think this is your destination for delectable prime rib.

Overall, there's room for improvement, especially in consistency and seasoning. The staff and setting were fine, but the food felt like it was still in the "beginner chef" stage.

Sometimes you end up at the 99 Restaurant & that's okay. On this particular occasion, it was…read moreexactly what my friend & I needed. We were coming off a tough evening, so the friendliness we were greeted with from the door to the table was SO appreciated. Our server, Blake, was cheerful, funny, & attentive. He anticipated our needs before we even had to ask. He definitely has innate service-industry skills that not everyone is blessed with. Blake - You're the man. I ordered the bacon & cheese burger with a gluten-free bun. The menu clearly labeled which items could be altered to accommodate gluten sensitivities, which was very helpful. That being said, the options for sides were limited (either mashed potatoes or steamed broccoli). I went with the mashed potatoes & was glad I did. My meal wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was good enough & it was gluten-free, so it hit the spot. My friend ordered a fresh fruit sangria (I took a sip & it was tasty) & her absolute favorite - the crispy honey mustard chicken salad. She asked for extra dressing, & Blake did NOT disappoint her. She said it was great, per usual. When we received the bill there was a QR code on it, making it wicked easy to pay & get going. On our way out to our bikes, Blake chased us down because my friend had forgotten her phone at the table. So in conclusion: sometimes a reliable, chain restaurant meal is exactly what you need to turn your tough evening into a good evening, & that's what happened at the 99 Restaurant on Saturday. Did I mention that Blake was the bees' knees?
