I've been to a 5 Guys before in Virginia so I was pleasantly surprised to hear that they were opening one in the Arboretum. In comparison with other burger joints up north, I consider 5 Guys superior to Mighty Fine but not quite as good as Mooyahs. Burger: Good. Not great, but good. The patties are overcooked and they need some seasoning. They offer a good number of toppings to choose from and the veggies were fresh. Just a warning that the "regular" burger is two patties and the "junior" is one. I hate when they do this. Two patties is a double! 'Hamburger/Cheeseburger' implies ONE patty, not two. Don't mess with established semantics, people!! Fries: Fresh, tasty and they give you a lot of them! Ask for the Cajun fries if you like some extra flavor. I don't see how some reviewers dislike these fries. They're fresh and thick cut which, if you've ever made fries for yourself (from fresh potatoes, not frozen from a bag), you'll know that they're not supposed to be super crispy! Price: A little much for lunch. My opinion is that fast food lunch should be under $10 and I routinely pay a little over that. Their drinks are seriously overpriced compared to other places. I actually don't buy drinks if I'm ordering to-go. Other points: The service isn't exactly fast because they make your burger and fries when you order it so don't expect instantaneous delivery of your meal after ordering. It's going to be hard for me to write a whole lot about this place. This is one of those places that wasn't *great* but it wasn't *horrible* either. The burgers had excellent flavor, but the texture was something that left me wanting. I like myself a firm, solid, well-done patty...and frankly this burger felt mushy in my mouth...like the patties weren't really compacted together. The cheese wasn't fully melted either - which is a point against it, as my cheese can't be cold. The fries weren't bad, but they weren't anything special. If anything they were a bit under-cooked as far as texture went. That and they were flavorless unless you drenched them in ketchup. For the price, too...I mean, it was $20+ for a regular cheeseburger and fries with a drink. Seriously? I think I'll be sticking with Mighty Fine burgers. read more

In the ongoing burger wars Five Guys stands slightly above average in the fast burger category. One thing I've come to prefer from all the burger joints is that when ordering the 'bigger' burger choice is that it is one patty instead of two. To me, the single bigger patty is juicier with more flavor than a two patty burger. Somehow, Five Guys manages to get two patties that are quite juicy and flavorful. I also prefer the buns here to those at most of the places and their selection of condiments/toppings is above average for a standard burger. Yeah yeah, I know that Hopdoddy and other more upscale places have more choices. Their fresh cut cajun fries are also one of my preferred fries in town. read more

This place wasn't bad! Went here with a few friends and was pleasantly surprised. I noticed a lot of people say that mighty fine is much better, but personally, I found them fairly similar. I ordered a regular burger, at $4-5 it seems a bit pricey, but it's a nice size. I saw that the order of fries was huge, but they didn't look all that great so I didn't get them. The burger was more than enough for me and a few of my friends. The patties aren't as thick as Mighty Fine, but a regular burger has two patties. And since they're thinner, they're a bit more braised, so they have that charred flavor. I thought they tasted great, not as good as mighty fine, but a great alternative. I'll probably got back here again, if you're into burgers, I'd recommend checking it out! read more

Two stars because the fries were good, but everything else was less. Payed a visit to Five Guys today for the first time. My boyfriend had a lot of good things to say about it, and it's close to our house so I figured it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot. He ordered and double patty burger with the works (their toppings are free), and I had just a regular burger with no cheese and some mushrooms. We decided to share a drink and had our own orders of fries. Price was $27.00 which I thought was an OK amount. While we were waiting we noticed that some of the people had been going to the counter to complain about their orders being wrong. We were getting a little worried and our food was taking a while to come out. When our food finally came out we unwrapped our burgers and it was almost as if they jumbled up our orders. My burger had toppings that my boyfriend burger should've had and vice versa. My boyfriends burger didn't have any bacon or a1 sauce that he asked for. I don't know if I'll visit another Five Guys, but if I do it won't be this location. Next time I'm craving a burger I'll make the drive and take my $27 to Dan's or Whataburger. read more

I ordered a little cheeseburger but ended up with a regular hamburger. Maybe they ran out of cheese and substituted a patty instead. I don't really like my patties well done either: this one also seemed very bland. The bun that fell apart while I was trying to consume the burger made the overall experience quite awkward, especially in the company of co-workers. The regular portion of fries is anything but: you could probably share it amongst four people, but for two people, it's much too much. And several hours later, I still had an unquenchable thirst from how salty the cajun fries were. It's nice that they offer all the fixin's at no extra charge, but I'd rather go with a minimalist burger that treats me right. I had a burger & fries on New Years Eve. I went back in to use the restroom after eating outside and the women's toilet was FULLY caked in dried diarrhea up and down the walls. This was not a recent incident. I went to wash my hands & leave and there were no paper towels. If the staff is using that bathroom and preparing food I am actually scared to get sick. I finally made it to Five guys. I have been told by so many it was a must visit, must eat, and enjoy an amazing burger joint. Call me crazy -*whispers* "ok Susan you are Crazy" - but I didn't leave the place dying to go back nor did it leave me so much in wonder that I had to run out of the place telling every stranger I met that they would be crazy not to indulge themselves in a burger. The burgers are good. The selection of what you can have put on it without being nickled and dimed is definitely a HUGE plus (onions, mushrooms, jalapenos), and all the other standard staples & condiments. I believe those mighty guys not to far down the road make a better basic tasting burger but again - I like having so many options and being able to choose between 1 or 2 patties. 3 burgers (1 regular and two little), 2 large drinks, and a large fry for $27 seemed a little much for what we had and/or what I felt we didn't experience. read more

Glad to see that we finally got a Five Guys in my area. When I lived in Orlando, we'd drop by there at least once a week for lunch. The burger is really greasy and fatty, but so damn good. One of their 'things' is to give you too many fries, so check the bottom of your bag after you order and you'll notice that there's another serving soaking into the paper bag. One observation...when I went there for lunch today, I didn't see one person in the entire restaurant that could be considered 'in-shape'. That's not a good sign. I had thought about giving these guys a lower review; but, after my burger experience at Billy's and the Frisco shop, I figured they deserved a higher rating. This place is the old Sharper Image location. The fries are cooked in Peanut oil, which is not bad. I was not sure if they take their oil and make it into bio diesel. The fries were good. They came in a styrofoam cup. They take potatoes and send them through a cutter. The skin they do leave on some of the fries is bitter. They were hot and crispy. The burger was a double decker with bacon. It was hot and juicy, cooked to order. They told me 7 minutes. I got my order faster than that. My only big complaint about the place is, I do not care that they were voted best burger in South Carolina. If it is not from Texas, I do not want to hear about it. In Texas, we do things differently. The burger was good. It is really hard to screw up a burger, unless the patty is thin and over cooked. I would definitely go back. This was one of those places like Mighty Fine. Very expensive and tried to be different in their own way. this place seems to think toppings is the big sell. And for stand-out's sake, they have peanuts you can nosh on while waiting for your grease-filled entree'. I got the regular bacon cheeseburger and shared a order of fries with my wife. Good thing we did that because they give you a ton of fries. the burger was ok but the bun was soggy, so was my wife's. The fries were some of the worst I've tried, limp and greasy. The bag was a testament to that, it was soaked with grease in and out when we picked up our order. I ended up getting sick when we got home. This is just one of those "try it once" places. They are way over priced. They should thank Amy's Ice Cream next door, if not for them they would get no business. Save money and go to McD's. read more

I had been craving a good ole hot dog for a few weeks now. In my hometown Chicago, a hot dog is considered a healthy meal and you eat it at least twice a week so I've been going through some pretty heavy withdrawal here in Texas. I asked what brand of hot dogs they used. Hebrew National. I know that girl taking my order saw the upset in my eyes. I decided to keep on with my mission. The whole place smelled like fries and it rendered me helpless. Upon first bite I was amazed. I attribute this to my NEED of a dog. As I munched on I realized it wasn't that great. The meat itself was sub par and EXTREMELY greasy (normally I'm into grease, but not on a hot dog.), the relish was not fresh at all and was a little offputting taste wise and the cheese was a slice of American that cost me an extra 30 cents. ( I know another company that charges 30 cents for slice of cheese - It starts with a Mc and ends with a Donald's) I think if these guys were to spring a little more for some Vienna beef, make their own relish and invest in some cheese sauce they would be doing themselves (and me) a favor. Austin is full of Chicago transplants clamoring for a good dog. Don't get skimpy on your other menu options (I mean, you only have about 5 of 'em) just because you're known for burgers and fries. read more

I love Five Guys. They are so consistent, if you've been to one, you've pretty much been to them all. As someone who lost 60lbs on Weight Watchers last year, their burgers are definitely something I have to avoid most of the time. When I get a burger craving though, Five Guys definitely fits the bill. Since I don't eat as much as I used to, I'm fully satisfied by their Little Hamburger. Fries are also fantastic, and I love anyplace that lets you eat whole peanuts and throw the shells on the floor. Only thing that keeps them from getting 5 stars for 5 Guys is the fact they don't have onion rings or shakes. I know that focusing on burgers and fries only is the main reason quality and service remain fantastic, but I still want me some onion rings and a shake! I arrived on a Monday afternoon at about 1:30pm. The parking lot to the shopping mall was extremely crowded since Christmas was only 4 days away. Nonetheless, I trudged on and eventually found a parking spot. The interior was nice, and there was a display of potatoes and free peanuts in front of the counter. There were also many articles on the walls of awards Five Guys had won in different states all around the US. There was no one in the line at the time. I examined the menu and discovered that the menu wasn't too big, but there were free toppings. Free toppings? You can't beat that. Most burger places charge extra for free toppings. I ordered a bacon burger and added regular fries and a drink. The toppings I selected were mushrooms, grilled onions, and cheese. I like the swiss style burgers with bacon. Came out to about $15 something. My burger was ready as soon as I finished pouring my fountain drink. It was really fast. My order came in a bag. The ketchup containers were really large so 2 was enough. The fries arrived in a cup, but it overflowed because I was given more than that. Big portions are always a plus. The fries were good and solid. I ate all of them before getting to my burger. The burger had two beef patties and flimsy bread, but amazingly it held up. It was freshly cooked with no preservatives so it was a plus. Pure unadulterated beef. The other ingredients came together perfectly to make it taste real good. I'm not a burger connoisseur, but Five Guys has some really good burgers. I also noticed that you can take peanuts for free at the display. I don't think Mighty Fine has anything to worry about from Five Guys. Eating dinner there after dark, the restaurant dining room just feels cold. The staff working there is quite friendly, though, and I appreciate the fact that they have a diet, caffeine-free soda option. I don't think the burger is quite as tasty as Mighty Fine, but I like the fries (a small fries easily serves two people) a little better. Overall, for a gourmet burger and fries, it was OK. The thing that will keep me from returning, though, is the 360 degree panorama of self-promotion. You literally cannot escape from signs informing you that someone in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, or Florida thinks that Five Guys is the best restaurant on the planet. Maybe the restaurant attracts insecure people who need to have their restaurant choice validated. In my experience, if someone goes out of their way to tell you they're great - they're not really that great. And being bombarded with the hard sales pitch (even in the restrooms!) is obnoxious. read more

Worst service ever. I got french fries to go. When I opened the bag they were all overcooked and had a burn taste, and I could not eat them. Thinking that could have been a one time occurrence, I returned a few months later. This time I checked my bag before I left and they were very overlooked just like the first time. I politely asked them if they could replace my fries with a batch that wasn't cooked as long. I was told that there was nothing they could do, no refund, no replacement fries. He said that if they replaced my fries that they would be exactly the same. He said "come back next week when we change the grease". I don't want to rate them even with one star. I'm placed an order today, it was deliver by Uber eats but my order was incomplete it was missing my milkshake, I was not even mad about it, I also work with food I understand I also deal with drivers all day and I understand drivers don't care most of the times but restaurants do, I call the restaurant just to make sure it was not there mistake that way I can complain to the right place without affecting the wrong side but I end of getting upset not for the mistake but by actitud of the manger on duty not enough not listen what the issue was by the hanging up the phone before time, the first guy (Chris)was good and did the right thing by call in the manager (David) this guy just did not care interrupting and justify by just ask for refund to the delivery company, I'm not even someone how likes reviews is the first time I do one, Maybe I over reacting with one star but I'm beyond upset by this it could be solved just by listen. My first and last trip to Five Guys. The experience was so bad that I am getting on Yelp for the first time in months. The service was good. Friendly staff. If someone gave me one of these burgers for free, I'd throw it away. It was beyond bland. The meat had zero flavor, it was dry. The buns were a combo of soggy and almost grainy in a weird way, also zero flavor. The fries were almost edible. Some were decent some were soaked in oil. There's way better burgers in town for less than half of what you spend at Five Guys. Looks like I'm not alone on the Five Guy's experience. read more

It does remind me of In n' Out (man do I miss that place-I used to go to the original one all the time as a kid in southern CA). Let's see, after studying my butt off all day long.. WOAH ITS 9PM! With that said, a friend and I were starving for something more than your regular, old burger and fries. The cashier was really nice and patient! It basically took the two of us to stand off to the side for 3 minutes to decide what to get. I got the Bacon Burger (I would have cheese if I weren't lactose intolerant) and my friend had the Little Bacon Burger. Both of us had an order of Cajun fries which are the BEST fries you will ever try! Its like a salty Cajun explosion in your mouth! Thicker cut fries are always better than the usual thin, rock-hardened toothpick fries fast food places usually throw at you. The burgers are really consistent at this Five Guys and across all their locations; made the way you want it. A minute after ordering, my friend was worried about how little the Little bacon burger was and asked for a change in her order. My fellow Yelpers, this is where a 4-star establishment becomes a 5-star establishment, chain or non-chain restaurants. The cashier took the request with a smile, sent the change in order down to the other guys and BAM! Amazing food. Without unnecessary fuss or hassle. The cashier was cleaning up the dinning area as we were leaving. He actually -genuinely- said goodbye to us and wished us a good night! I am giving them two stars because I like that the burger comes plain (how I like it) and you can add whatever you want and because everyone was friendly. Other that that....ehh. The bun isn't anything wonderful, tastes like a grocery store bun. My cheese wasn't melted all the way and felt kind of cool. The fries were not good. We originally ordered cajun and thought they were nasty (too much seasoning dumped all over them) so we got regular ones instead. Plain, but not much better. The life of a shopping center is always interesting to watch. Most start out relatively upscale, then slowly decline. First it's subtle, like a Saks Fifth Avenue moving out and being replaced by a JCPenney. Things accelerate from there, and before you know it the place is nothing but dollar stores and check cashing places and no one wants to go there after dark. I'm not saying the Arboretum is definitely doomed to that sort of path, but when a monument to pointless consumerism like Sharper Image moves out and a third-rate burger joint moves in, that has to be taken as a bad sign. Being a former loyal Mooyah-phile before the unfortunate Geaux Burger incident and later closing down, I was on the lookout for another good burger joint. We noticed Five Guys on one of our many trips to Barnes and Noble, otherwise known as the only place in the Arboretum we can afford to shop. The inside of the store is clean but sparsely decorated. The whole atmosphere of the place screams "sterile efficiency", which would be fine if the idea was for customers to get their food quickly and escape before they started having flashbacks to their middle school cafeteria that would eventually drive them to madness. However, the fact that these guys cook every burger fresh and provide free peanuts while you wait suggests that they are inviting you to hang around for a while, which seems at odds with the decor. The aforementioned peanuts are provided in large cardboard boxes perched atop the kind of industrial brown garbage cans that probably look filthy straight out of the factory and just decline from there. On the bright side, once you get past the notion of eating peanuts that spent a not inconsiderable amount of time perched over a smelly garbage can, they are quite tasty. The burgers here are heavily reminiscent of the late great Mooyah, although Mooyah's bun was far superior. The bun at Five Guys is inadequate for the toppings, especially if you order it "all the way". Halfway through the burger, the sopping remains of the bun will be sliding helplessly away, leaving you with meat patties and various condiments sliding inexorably into your shirt. Wear short sleeves. Other than the unfortunate bun, the burgers taste very very similar to Mooyah, which is not a bad thing at all. The fries here are underwhelming at best. The quantity is more than adequate, with a single large fries being easily enough for a family of four, provided none of those four are growing teenagers. The taste, though, leaves much to be desired. They seem to be chronically undercooked and undersalted. Maybe the poor quality of the fries is just a cynical ploy to get people to upgrade to the cajun spiced variety in hopes that an excessive amount of seasoning can save them, sort of like how Red Robin's seasoning saves their horrible fries. We can only hope. Overall, the place is good but not great. It remains our preferred destination when we get hungry during one of our Barnes & Noble trips but can't be bothered to take out the second mortgage necessary to eat at the Cheesecake Factory and we're too famished to survive the long trip to the Elevation Burger down the street. read more

3.5/5 Stars. Basically there is not much to say. There are five guys back there making burgers. The menu is limited to just burgers that are well seasoned but somewhat greasy. There are more options for your burgers than at a place like Mighty Fine and less meat (even though the regular burger is double patty,the jr is a single patty). The burgers are well seasoned and are good but not out of this world. I also tried the chili cheese dog and it was good because I was able to add burger toppings to it. The hot dog is basically a long dog but cut in half and laid in between the bun. That allows for more toppings. The fries come in to go cups instead of the usual rhombus type concoctions you can find anywhere else. I don't mean to be mean in this interview but its not very inspiring. There is not much to say about a run of the mill burger place. For me basically one regular cheeseburger is not enough and its priced around 6 bucks. Other burger prices have their own flare and better flavor such as Hopdoddy, Top Notch, Huts, and the now infamous Stack Burger Bar. I haven't been to this place in more than a year since the last time I checked in. Overall I choose to eat at better burger joints that are closer especially Top Notch and soon to be on West Anderson Lane then 2nd Hopdoddy location. read more
