"Give me some more" The first time I went to Five Guys, I was actually on a lifestyle change (ie a diet), and so I could only eat a 1/2 a burger and about 7 fries:) 2 weeks later, I damned that diet and got my grub on at Five Guys. I didnt realize this place was a regional/national chain, the quality, taste and service screams local hamburger spot... Five guys is simply amazing. They do hand cut friench fries that are cooked in sometype of "healthy" oil. Everything is cooked to order, so you arent eating a hamburger thats been sitting under a cooling lamp. The best thing about Five Guys, clearly the burgers. Made to order, fresh right off the grill (my mouth is literally watering right now). The place still maintains its local flavor with newspaper clippings about the rise/start of the Five Guys franchise. For some reason, I really like when restaurants do this..I think in middle school terms they'd call that a "dork"...whatever. Are these the best hamburgers that I have ever had? Five Guys Famous Burgers and Fries has won many awards, year after year, naming them as having the best burger in whatever town that award covers. They proudly plaster their walls with newspaper clippings and magazine articles stating how great the food is at Five Guys. I went through a range of emotions during my experience at Five Guys. First I was confused when I saw their menu, but then I realize that it's just much more simple than a McDonald's menu. Select from one of four types of burgers, select size, and then select toppings. Any of the toppings are free, so no charging and extra $0.50 for freakin fried onions or anything else. This is great. Make your burger however you want at the same price. Ah let's get right to it. The burger... is good. Not quite as great as I had hoped, and definitely not quite as great as many other people say. The best description of a burger from Five Guys is that it is hands down, the absolute best homemade hamburger. Think back to the best hamburger you've ever had at family barbecue and go up a few notches, that's what a Five Guys burger is like. They use never frozen all natural beef, but it's a rough grind so the patty is actually a bit more lumpy or, chunky than you're used to getting. Very much like buying ground beef from the grocery store and making your own patties at home. They don't seem to add much if any seasoning to the patty and what you end up with is probably one of the most pure examples of a beef flavor from a hamburger you can get from anywhere else. It's actually surprising and refreshing to get that pure beef taste from a burger since most places add their own special seasoning to affect the taste of the meat. (With Mcdonald's being one of the most extreme examples of tampering with meat flavors and adding so many things to the patty that it could be sawdust and it'd still taste like... a McDonald's burger. But that's how they like it there.) Burger size? It's huge. Don't worry, you'll be full. The fries? I just had the regular fries and while they have a great texture, weight and consistency... the taste is a bit lacking. However, they do give you TONS of fries. First you get a cup full of fries, they place that in your bag, then your burger, then they pour another cupfull of fries over everything. It's awesome. Your paper bag is greasy from the moment they give it to you. Another surpise? The customer service is awesome. Amazingly awesome. So much that I was struck frozen and I think I literally stared at the guy taking my order because he was so polite and professional. I know, from a burger joint? Amazing. As someone who usually tries to keep to a semi-healthy diet AND tries to eat locally, I'm embarrassed the number of times I've been here. It's all about proximity, no lie. When you're hungover or cranky or unshowered or PMSy and there's the guarantee of a big cheap juicy burger just a quarter mile away, you're going to partake. More often than you'd like. This location is A-OK. They get... ehh .. 4.5 stars for their customer service. Very friendly, they smiled and were upbeat. They held the door for me and other customers. However, they kinda got my order wrong. I asked for a small cheeseburger with sauteed onions, ketchup, mustard and mayo. Don't judge. They gave me a small cheeseburger with raw onions, mustard and mayo. The condiments were on opposite sides of the patty, which was weird.. maybe that's just me. It wasn't a great burger, and the fries were mediocre; not hot, not particularly tasty. It was lunch time, loud, getting busy and there was a cop in line after me, so who knows, maybe they were just working too fast. Grease...I love it. About once every two months or so I have enormous cravings for a big, greasy, 5,000 calorie-a-bite, beef hamburger with every-stinkin'-thing on it. It want it big, cheap and not far. This possibly has it roots in my upbringing around Chicago's Perros Brother's franchise. Anytime I get that need - my go-to spot is Five Guys. Seriously, the double patties, the bacon, the fried onions and the freakin' huge dixie cup of salty fries should be against the law...a blatant violation of FDA standards. I am in love with burgers. I eat them all the time, from all places, and make a pretty kick ass one at home. (I even read a blog about them...)I like to think I have knowledge of what makes a good burger (fresh ingredients being the most important thing, followed by type of cheese, type of bread, how juicy it is, etc.) Five Guys makes a good burger. It isn't the best burger I have ever had, but it is very good. They are very juicy, and ordering A-1 on it gives it some kick. I like that I can mix it up and try different toppings when I go, and appreciate that they don't consider mashed potatoes a burger topping. (Damn you Burger King and your twisted marketing ploys!) The bread gets a little too saturated with burger juice, which I am not a fan of...maybe if they would toast it a little? I am disappointed by their fries. They tend to be soggy, and if they aren't the cajun spiced, then they are bland, too. One problem for me is the price. Last time I was there, two burgers, two sodas, and an order of fries was over seventeen dollars. I know that isn't that expensive, but they are burgers. This particular Five Guys is VERY CLEAN and the service is consistently friendly and not in a plastic way. The owner (small framed guy who's often behind the counter or in the office....don't believe him, he's NOT the manager....he's the owner :-)) makes a special effort to hire kids from the neighborhood and ACTUALLY TRAINS THEM on customer service....go figure. I live right around the corner from this location, so I visit fairly often and the service is always fun and friendly. Unlike other Five Guys, this location is ALWAYS clean and I never have a problem with finding up-front street parking. So why not 5 stars? I don't get the hype. AT ALL! We're a nation of fat asses though, and Five Guys caters to them like a champ. Everything on their menu is drenched in grease, tastes like grease, and feels like grease. I feel dirty, and a little sick, every time I leave there. All the people that say it's the best hamburger in the city obviously haven't eaten at enough places. If you're in the mood to clog your arties with burgers that are tastier (and less budget friendly than McDonalds), then this is the place for you. I was in the area with some friends, and I wanted a burger, so this place seemed as apt as any. There are two different sizes, one called Little, and one that I suppose is their Regular. Their "Little" burger is any other fast food chain's regular sized burger, and their regular sized burger is a monster. I got the Little Cheeseburger for under $5 and a side of fries which were about $3, so a meal for under $10. Dear bejeesus, the fries were good! As if McDonalds fries (not sure if these are the same string bean size, it's been a couple years since I've eaten here) and Wendy's fries had a baby. They had all the grease that make McDonalds fries good, and the slightly larger lightly salted aspect of the Wendy's fries that make them better for you than McDonalds. And there were... So many. Dear lord, were there. They give you a paper cup, but that was amply overflowing to the point that the wrapped hamburger was covered with fries on all sides. I really like that they have free toppings. I got some sautéed mushrooms, lettuce, pickles, and ketchup on the side. They went a little lettuce happy, but that was easily remedied. A little expensive I think. I could have spent $8 at Farm Burger and gotten a marginally tastier burger, but it hit that greasy craving. The burger itself was what you'd expect, and exactly what I was craving: large and in charge, and greasy greasy greasy. Some days that sort of food just hits the spot. The service and food is very consistant at each location that I have visited. It was my boyfirend's first visit and he is now hooked on Five Guy's! Vegetarians staring at the very short menu at Five Guys may be dismayed to see only a "grilled cheese". Remember, though, at Five Guys, any sandwich includes tons of free toppings. I enjoy a "cheese veggie" with grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, jalapeno peppers, lettuce, and tomato. You won't lack for tasty eats here! Better yet, the free handfuls of roasted peanuts provide extra vegetarian protein. When you order the smaller size of fries, you're still going to get a metric butt-ton of potatoes. Every bag containing fries is topped off with a large scoop of extra fries. Don't ask me why -- just don't ask me to eat all of them, either! On a diet? Think carefully, and don't order fries. This particular Five Guys (can't vouch for others) offers plain soda water at their tap, which is tasty with lots of lemon juice. I'm from CA and this is the closest thing to In-N-Out burgers as I can get. They opened one in San Diego, but I never dared trying it. I did it once in VA and it wasn't right. But now, I live in ATL and this place for some reason, changed my mind about it. I go here atleast 2x a month with my kid before or after the movies. Tonight, my bf and I did take out and OMGGGGG!!! I've been eating at Five Guys since the original location in Northern Virginia! I remember the first time I went there. I was scared because it truly was a hole in the wall. I was also confused on why they handed my just a greasy brown bag. Boy, did everything change once I opened up that bag and had one of the most delicious burger and fries I have ever had! When I heard they were going to expand and open up a couple in Atlanta, I was sooo excited! I stopped by today after painting up a couple of rooms and working from home. I was starving since it was 3:30PM and I was so busy painting while I was on conference calls that I haven't eaten a thing! I usually get cranky when I don't eat, but I am impressed that I painted the entire 2nd level of our loft all by myself! Anyways, I ordered the cheeseburger and of course had to add green peppers! Love the additional crunchiness, especially since I don't eat onions anymore due to David's allergies. The Cajun fries are the best! SOO good. Not good as Eclipse di Sol's Andy's Burger but it's up there. The Five Guys' is in my top three burger places in Atlanta. You don't go there for the ambience, it's all business. Eat it quickly or get it to go. I wouldn't take a date here, peanut shells on the floor do not denote romance, unless you're circus folk. I always get their mushroom burger and have them put the ketchup on it for me. If I add the ketchup later it's not as good or sweet. Something about the immediancy of adding ketchup to a hot burger that makes it slightly sweet which is balanced by the fresh meat and the mushrooms. I can't say I'm a frequent patron or fan of fast food, but Five Guys is certainly ahead of the rest of the pack when it comes to this dining category. Food: Five Guys specializes in hamburgers, but I personally find their hot dogs to be among the best in Atlanta. They don't have the strong beef flavor that is so characteristic of the hot dogs from Yeah Burger or Grindhouse; it probably means that there is a fair share of questionable ingredient(s), but it just wouldn't be a hot dog without some enigmatic allure surrounding its ingredients, right? The other memorable aspect about this place is the variety of toppings that are included in the price of your meal. The only downside to the menu is that the selection of sides is limited; you have your choice of regular or cajun fries, both of which are flavorful and served in generous portions that are more than enough to share between two, perhaps even three, reasonably sized individuals. Service: Service was friendly and quick. The only issue I have with the ordering process is that you pay at the counter and then pick-up your order once it's called. This originally didn't seem problematic to me, until I realized that the calling process was achieved through a microphone that was utilized several times per minute. Needless to say, don't expect to have any in-depth conversations while dining here. Atmosphere: With respect to atmosphere, Five Guys is a typical fast food chain. The dining area is very institutional and you can guarantee that your seat will be within an arms throw (or smell) of a garbage can. Although I'm sure many will disagree, the one thing I do appreciate about Five Guys is that the kitchen area is completely visible from the dining area; when eating fast food, I'm a huge fan of being able to see both the equipment and individuals preparing anything that's about to enter my mouth. Cost: Inexpensive. A hamburger or hot dog with unlimited toppings, regular fries, and a drink will cost approximately $10. Other: I was later told that this is a trademark of Five Guys, but they dump an extra handful of fries into your bag after putting the hot dog/hamburger and cup of fries inside. Some may see this as an added plus, but it takes practice to remove the items from the bag without either burning your fingers or dumping grease/salt filled fries on yourself. read more

If you've had five guys in the last 24 hours, then you are a very promiscuous person, and might want to think about a change of career and to become a lady or gent of the night. You could probably make a lot of money and you'd clearly be doing something you love. Wait, I sound like a bad influence. So let's focus on the food. You may as well go to McDonalds - really. These burgers aren't bad. They're not bad but neither are they great - and they're a chain, so everything is pre-designed, pre-destined, pre-portioned, pre-frozen, and yet everyone is head over heels in love with this place. I came to this location in Atlanta because friends in the area insisted, and guess what! It's just like every other Five Guys! No better, no worse! It's not awful, it's not great. Why not go and support a local family owned burger chain instead? That's the ticket! Would you rather support the local family, or the multi national corporations and the rich men on yachts in the Carribbean? Why are the parking lots of the awesome local places usually half empty (or completely empty)? Why are the fast food chains always so busy? Why can they afford to open so late and get all the TV advertising and all the prime intersection locations? Why are they taking over all the airports, stations, and rest stops? Why go and support McDonalds, Taco Bell, Burger King, KFC, Wendys, Cold Stone, Subway, and so on? These places have systematically and coldly taken over the national food scene by using the cheapest ingredients, pre-packaged frozen systematic meals that are identical across the nation, ridiculously cheap prices for the polystyrene food on dollar menus, overpricing for everything else, rude underpaid servers on way less than minimum wage, and a ridiculously expensive mass brand advertising campaign that gets inside the heads of all the kids and the 20somethings and keeps them under the illusion that if it's not a brand name, it's not worth visiting. They spend all the money they should be investing in food and service, in advertising and cornering the market - the local places can't compete - and someday all we will be left with is the same chains serving the same food all over the world. That is our future. It's the way we're heading and you know it. Every time you eat at a bland national chain, you buy into that, you support that. Boycott chains. Support your local eateries. It's an embarrassment that generic brand national chains are even listed on a proper foodie website like Yelp, let alone getting 4 and 5 stars from so called foodies. As a Washington DC area native, Five Guys is pretty much the Holy Grail when it comes to Burgers and Fries on this side of the US. I've been going to Five Guys for 12 years (since 1996!) when my family used to go to one of the original locations in Springfield, VA. Aside from In-N-Out Burger out West (and only because there is currently 1 Five Guys location in all of California) this is by far the best burger and fries you will find, hands down. All of the burgers come from 99% lean, fresh, never-frozen beef, and the fries are cooked in 100% peanut oil for zero cholesterol. I will agree with Ryan F. - these are also some of the best hot dogs you will find anywhere, but with how delicious the burgers are I find it difficult for me to forego eating a burger on a day just for a hot dog! I guess on a day when I'm really hungry I can have both, but you'll be hard-pressed to finish a burger (2 patties) and fries (usually an enitre bag) by yourself. The fries are best shared between at least two people to make sure you get the best bang for your buck. Also, if you're a vegetarian, I find it confusing that you would go to "Five Guys Famous BURGERS & Fries" looking for a vegetarian meal...? You can order a bun with the all the fixings minus the meat (again 100% fresh fixings) but then what's the point! Definitely try it out. You won't be disappointed, unless of course you're expecting a typical Fast Food experience like some of the reviewers here. Five Guys is NOT a fast food restaurant - do not make that mistake. You can literally watch all of your food be cooked fresh before your eyes. Oh and did I mention the fries are made from fresh cut potatoes from Idaho, and aren't processed like fast food joints? I am a devoted fan of Five Guys. This Edgewood location is no exception, and gets reviewed simply because it is the one closest to my house in Kirkwood. As a previous reviewer said, it is my firm belief that Five Guys is the closest thing to In-N-Out Burger on the East Coast. No higher praise could I give. For those of you who are used to typical fast food burgers, Five Guys is not a member of this family. The burgers are made to order, the fries are made to order, the food is fresh. The menu is simple. So simple in fact, that many people are confused upon entering for the first time. The staff at this location are friendly, courteous, and efficient. I love Five Guys. The burgers are really good and taste very fresh. There are plenty of toppings to choose from as well. I usually get the "little" size hamburger, because the regular sized one is just too filling for me. The fries are delicious and the portions are very generous (usually way too much for me to finish!) Prices are good, not extremely cheap, but you get what you pay for! There are always parking spots available and you can also order online ahead of time, so you can skip the line and get your food at lot faster. Oh, and they play awesome Motown and Soul music inside. I'm going to come clean--I'm a burger snob. In fact, it was an overwhelming craving to eat a cheeseburger that broke my 8-year streak, changing my status from "pescatarian" to "omnivore" 5 years ago. I'd been resisting going to Five Guys because I'd heard way too many people raving. I mean, really...if they don't cook my burger until I order it, and I can't have it bloody as hell, what's the point? I finally gave in today, and the point is that this place is competing with McDonalds, not with the Vortex. Yes, it is better than Mickey D's, but not that much better. And, to be honest, I like McD's fries better. There were things about the Five Guy's fries that I liked -- that they were obviously made from real unpeeled potatoes, that the establishment offers malt vinegar (don't ask me where this Southern girl picked up a thing for malt vinegar). But they didn't have enough salt, for starters, and they weren't all that crispy. I think I ate about 10 and threw the rest out. And so, the illustrious burger. I got the small cheeseburger. It was juicy, especially for a well-done burger--I will give them that--and I liked the array of toppings offered, especially the grilled onions and mushrooms. But they got my order wrong. I waited for 10 minutes for this thing, and it had mayonnaise on it. The only thing I asked them NOT to put on it. I hate mayonnaise. I hate mayonnaise in a passionate way in which it is impossible for me to ignore the mayonnaise residue on my sandwich after I wipe it off. As infrequently as I order there, McDonald's always gets my no mayo order correct. My receipt clearly stated "NO mayo"--that was it. Everything BUT mayo. Gah. So whenever my girlfriend goes out of town, I console myself with getting a bad-for-me meal. It's an awesome plan and it generally means a food coma to keep me warm at night, a feeling of satiation and no disapproving looks. So I was buying random crap from the megaplex that is the Edgewood Shopping District. I recently bought a home near here and that means no matter how much you want to stick it to the man, you end up coming here for bathmats, mulch and cider. Every restaurant is a semi-local chain, many of which are the regional archetype for mediocre. Willy's, Shane's Rib Shack, Ru San's, Figo. You get the idea. And so it is with Five Guys. Now I'm not going to give it a bad review, because it hit the cues. The restaurant was designed to be more generic than Waffle House. It made me want to leave. The service was friendly, attentive and so on. The fries were quite good while warm, cajun seasoning being satisfyingly salty-generic. They had a nice array of toppings, all included in the price. I ordered a cheeseburger, lettuce, pickles, mustard, hot sauce, mushrooms. When I ate that cheeseburger, the experience was familiar: Wendy's. It was a slightly thicker Wendy's burger, down to the textures and flavors of the bun. I'll give here and say that Wendy's probably has the best fast food burger, and so this made for a good gut-bomb. The ability to add on whatever toppings you want is cool, too, since Wendy's doesn't serve hot sauce and grilled onions. But really, now - it was Wendy's, it cost me $9.00 and now I want a Frosty. Not so crazy about Five Guys. The burger was...good, but for the price I paid it should have been magnificent. Brilliant. Excellentay. It should have been the best burger I've ever had, if you believe all the hype about Five Guys. AND, for a pricey burger, I really want my onions SLICED, not diced up like I'm eating a hot dog. Yeah, I know that's being very particular, but still. I want my onions on my burger sliced thank you very much. OH! But the fries were really good! But then again, so are Wendy's fries... You know, now that I've gone to Five Guys, I think I'll just go to Wendy's next time I'm craving a good fast-food burger. read more

This is serious junk food. I just left 5 guys and I want to unbutton my pants, slump down in my chair and fall asleep as I wait for the pimples to erupt on my face. I had the little burger (just means 1 patty instead of two) with bacon and french fries. I have no complaints about this place. The fries were hand cut and were nice and hot. Both the patty and the fries were a little bland but a side of Cajun seasoning remedied that in no time. Whoever made my burger was super heavy on the mayo and I love mayo! so next time I would ask for light mayo or just get it on the side but there will be a next time. Next time I want to feel like a greasy gluttonous pig with a belly full of yummy junk food that is. P.S. the regular fries is HUGE... 1 is enough for 3 people to share. read more

I checked out Five Guys today for lunch. I have to admit I was taken back by the prices. $10 for a cheeseburger, fries, and a soda sounded like a lot but then I got my bag full of goodies. The burger is pretty good and very juicy. The regular size fries is huge and they tasted so fresh. Reminds me of my beloved In & Out!! Good thing this is a little bit of a drive from my house, cause I think I could become a regular, fast! :o) read more

In the growing trend of fast casual eatin' comes a far superior burger to the fast-food chains. I think the beef is actually fresh and the fries are made with 100% peanut oil, as the prominently displayed boxes of the product will attest. The decor is pedestrian--but clean. They take great pride in their press clippings and Zagat's ratings you'll see framed on the wall. One does get the sense that five real guys pooled their money and opened up the first one in the Washington, D.C. area. It is probably a much-ballyhooed local's favorite up there. What I really like is that the employees really seem to care, give great service, and are genuinely friendly. Damn, I'll pay $9 and change for a burger and fries and a side of courtesy! Is it the best burger I've ever had? Maybe not, but it is a contender. The "regular" sized burger is a double-patty sandwich and the regular fries is actually a big heap o' taters. Be careful ordering here...the portions are very generous. All the toppings you want (and it is a good selection) come with the base price of the sandwich. I'm pretty sure you can get heated seats and a moon roof for no extra charge. The bun is a white flour type that isn't toasted, but that's kind of good on a burger sometimes. All in all, a great place, a better alternative to fast food, and perfect amount of food--especially if you're planning on going home right afterwards to stare slack-jawed at a TBS movie marathon scratching your belly for a few hours. read more

It's really hard not to like Five Guys, this one is pretty standard, but I like the staff. They were all professional but friendly, and seem like they like their job, working with each other and getting it done. It's very clean, tidy and well-stocked. Plus, this location has the Freestyle machines. HELL YES. I am all about Peach Sprite. I spent the less than 5 minutes it took for my food to cook messing with the Freestyle machine. Overall, it was a pretty standard experience, but enjoyable. Five Guys always feels so classic American, but they do it without being cheesy, kitschy, or in your face. The atmosphere here is laid back and friendly. The food was what you would expect from one of the most renown burger joints. I wish the cheese on my cheeseburger was a little more melted, but besides that it was great. Delicious burger and fresh toppings. They give a lot of tomato- my favorite. I try not to eat food like this more than every few months, but if I can somehow justify the expense, I'll be back to satisfy that random burger craving. read more

I am starting to get the feeling that FIVE GUYS BURGERS has "jumped the shark". "Jumping the Shark" in TV Land is when a good show goes bad. Well FIVE GUYS is starting to go bad. My cousin was visiting from Houston and I bragged so much about these burgers that I had to take her there, and the burger was horrible. Now maybe some people like un-melted American cheese on their burger BUT I am not one of them -- it made the burger cold and nasty -- so I took it back up to the counter and asked for another, the second burger was the same as the first COLD and NASTY with un-melted cheese. I was so frustrated that I tossed the nasty burger in the trash and dropped a yelp card in the tip jar. Now if the new policy at FIVE GUYS is to slap a cold slice of cheese on a cold burger then its is official ... FIVE GUYS BURGERS has 'jumped the shark" --- which means it is only downhill from here. read more
