Needless to say, one can never pay enough for piece of mind. But when you have your mother in law with you that goes double. This was our first family plane trip with our two toddlers 3 & 2. We wanted to travel as lightly as possible for obvious reasons so no car seats in tow, but how were we going to get to our hotel? I thought about BART, taxi, and even rental. None of those offered the smooth transition I was looking for until I came across Five Emerald the night before our trip. I was able to request car seats for the kiddos and even meet and greet service upon our arrival. Of course the main selling point was that I could have the piece of mind of getting the kids to the hotel safely secured in car seats and that I wouldn't be worried about hearing anything from my mother in law. In hindsight it would have been easier to do the curbside pick up which entails calling them when ready vs the meet and greet but I thought that would have been a nice touch since we were celebrating my wife's birthday. With the meet and greet you have to walk to the car with the driver and all of your stuff. The communication between Five Emerald/ Ira and myself was excellent. I actually changed the regular pick up to meet and greet on our way to LAX and had confirmation of the change within a few minutes. I wouldn't hesitate to use Five Emerald again on a future visit to SF and would recommend this to any of our parent friends out there.

Easy to use service, reliable, on time, professional, etc. etc. I recommend and would use them again. They are not cheap though.

When we decided to visit San Francisco, I knew I wanted to do some kind of tour. I researched a…read morebunch of options and even considered one of the hop-on, hop-off buses, but then I came across the Painted Ladies Tour. I watched several videos, read reviews, and quickly realized this was a completely different kind of tour. The tour takes place in a vintage VW van that looks like something straight out of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine. Honestly, even the vehicle itself makes the experience fun! It's also a much more intimate experience than a large bus tour, which was exactly what I was looking for. It ended up being one of our absolute favorite things we did in San Francisco. Our guide, Clay, met us just a couple of blocks from our hotel, which was another huge bonus. We didn't have to take any additional public transportation to get to the tour. It was my daughter and me, another mother and daughter, and their aunt, so we had a really small group. Clay made sure we rotated seats throughout the tour so everyone got a different perspective and everyone had a chance to sit up front for the best views. One of the first things Clay did was explain what actually makes a "Painted Lady" a Painted Lady. We got to see so many examples throughout the city, and one of our favorites was the Four Seasons. It was really interesting learning the history behind the homes rather than just driving past them and taking pictures. We drove through the Haight-Ashbury area, where Clay explained how housing costs and the population have changed over the years. We even saw the iconic home with the legs sticking out of one of the windows, which is a pretty funny representation of just how packed some of the homes became. We also got to see the former homes of Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin, and Jimi Hendrix. Being able to see those places in person and hear the history behind them was really cool. Our first stop where we actually got out of the van was Alamo Square Park, where the iconic Full House opening scene was filmed. This was probably the number one thing my daughter wanted to see, so she was thrilled! We got out, took pictures, and Clay was kind enough to take pictures of both of us together so neither of us had to be the person left out of the photos. Next, we drove by the house from Mrs. Doubtfire. Clay actually happened to see them filming part of the movie when he was younger, which made the stop even more interesting. Then came another major highlight for my daughter--we got to see the school from The Princess Diaries! From there, we headed to the Palace of Fine Arts, where we learned about its connection to the World's Fair. We stopped to take pictures, and I have to mention one of my favorite random moments of the entire tour: seeing a Golden Retriever riding in a convertible, absolutely living his best life. It was one of those completely unexpected San Francisco moments that made the day even better. Since we were already in the area, we also stopped to take pictures with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. But the absolute highlight of the tour came next. Clay took us to Lombard Street, turned the music way up, blasted "Born to Be Wild," and let us cruise down the famous winding street with the windows down. We were all singing along, laughing, and taking in the experience. It was honestly one of the most iconic and memorable moments of our entire San Francisco trip. The tour was also perfectly timed. We spent the morning seeing so much of the city, but we were finished early enough to walk back to our hotel, have some downtime, and regroup before lunch. We never felt rushed, but we also didn't lose an entire day to the tour. I would absolutely recommend the Painted Ladies Tour to anyone visiting San Francisco. It's such a fun and personal way to see the city and learn about its history. Instead of sitting on a huge bus with dozens of other people, you're in a small group, getting to interact with your guide and really experience the city. And Clay was fantastic. He was knowledgeable, personable, and made the history fun for both the adults and the kids in our group. He took pictures for us, made sure everyone got a chance to experience the best seats, and really made the entire morning feel special. If you're looking for something more personal than a traditional sightseeing bus, I can't recommend this tour enough. Between the Mystery Machine-style van, the history, the movie locations, the Golden Gate Bridge, and singing "Born to Be Wild" down Lombard Street, this was easily one of our favorite memories from San Francisco.

The van was clean and comfortable, and the entire day was incredibly well organized. Our guide, Anthony, was amazing! He really made the experience special with his fun stories, interesting facts, and knowledge of the area. We visited three wineries, all with great wines and completely different personalities, and had plenty of time to enjoy each stop without feeling rushed. The day also included a stop at the Golden Gate Bridge for pictures, lunch in Sonoma, and a stop in Sausalito. We actually decided to stay in Sausalito for dinner and took the ferry back to San Francisco, which ended up being the perfect way to finish the day. We met some really fun people along the way, tasted some great wine, and got to see so much of the area without having to worry about driving. We visited 3 winery's, 2 that we wanted to go to, the other she recommended. I would recommend going with her recommendations since it was my favorite winery's of the day. She picked us up on time (8am, she was there early) from our hotel and we headed out the the Muir Woods. The woods are so magical with the amazing redwood trees that were HUGE. After the woods we headed to our first winery. Stagsly vineyards is a bigger winery with some great Cabernets. Their tasting room was beautiful and overlooked the massive vineyards. Next we went for lunch at Gotts. This place had some seriously delicious burgers and tacos. Everyone in my family got burgers and I got shrimp tacos that were very fresh and tasty. Their special Mexican street corn was also one of our favorites. After we went to Ambers winery recommendation that was soldero. This was a smaller boutique type vineyard. We started our tasting with a tour of the property and their new rose that will be launching in July. The rose was our favorite. We were also able to go down on the vineyard and see the plants which I thought was very cool. The staff was friendly and sat chatting with us down in their tasting room. Finally we stopped by Cuvason which had such a classy atmosphere. Beautiful indoor and outdoor tasting. They started us off with a complimentary rose champagne. After we tasted a savigon Blanc, another rose, and 2 Cabernets. Again would recommend the rose, however I still think the new one from our second stop was best. A few of us went on a weekday evening after a gym class, and fortunately the atmosphere was casual enough that we didn't feel underdressed. It was pretty quiet, and there were still plenty of high-top tables and lounge areas available when we arrived. The staff were friendly and explained how everything worked - they link your credit card to an Embarc card (with a QR code), which you then scan to select and pour your wines. I appreciated that there wasn't really a pricing incentive for larger servings - so, in a way, that made it easier to try smaller 1 oz tastings of multiple wines without feeling pressured to commit to half or full glasses, which is ideal if you enjoy exploring different options like I do. We were a bit pressed for time since they closed at 8pm that day, so I'm def looking forward to coming back to try more drinks (they rotate their offerings) and spend some more time enjoying the ambiance.

When you walk in, there are loungey sofas and high top tables with wine dispensers on both sides of the room and a bar in the back. You can grab a seat anywhere you want and then approach the bar for a tap card and run down of the wines they have. The tap card can be used to dispense any of the wines on the walls. I loved being able to try a bunch. I will say it got a little tedious to get up and down after every taste and disrupted good conversation, but you can just grab another glass and get two at a time! The wines were basically sorted old world and new on the two walls. There was also one case (so four wines) of non alcoholic wine! I have been super interested to try more non alcoholic wine so would love to see this featured or switched up every once in a while! The person working the night we went was very nice and helped me when a spout didn't seem to dispense right. That said, the recommendations felt a little off? I said I like white, crisp, and on the drier side like a chenin Blanc. They recommended a Chardonnay and a Moscato? I did try the Chardonnay, but it wasn't to my taste buds. Just felt like they gave me the most popular recommendations. I also somewhat miss the explanation that comes with tasting from a traditional server but I'm sure I remember none of that info so it doesn't seem as important to add back into this experience. They had a couple premade food items in a fridge (cheese and meta plates). After my three tastes I would have loved something salty and light to snack on like popcorn, so hopefully the snack selection expands just a bit. Overall cool experience, you get exactly the wine you pay for, and I love being able to try so many! I do plan to bring a few other friends here to experience embarc wines!
