Another discount store has landed in Downey! I would say this store is a mash up of Big Lots and the 99 cents only store and the dollar spot at Target. The title speaks for itself , Five Below. Everything is $5 or less. This store is fairly new to Downey and is nicely organized and well kept. The white and bright aesthetic is super pleasing to the eyes and makes shopping fun. On a personal note, my teenage son loves coming here to shop. He's found several amiibos (???) that he didn't have for $5. I've brought my nephews here on a mini shopping spree and they loved it too. There are a lot of cute items, seasonal items, and even a few name brand items . Their candy section is really cool, super organized. The back section has tons of t shirts that are really contemporary. I can't wait to see what they stock for Halloween and other holidays!

Not bad for a $10- light up keyboard and their selling same brand same light up keyboard for 40$ on Amazon. Super clean store lots of help. Lots of parking. Always packed. Super cheap place- but let me reassure you, you'll end up sending $$$ on this place fasting than you realize.

It's a nice, big store. A bit messy. I got my white elephant gift here (an aromatic lamp) which ended up not working and I leave too far from any 5 below to return it. If you purchase any electronics beware, try it ASAP. My friend had no issues with her purchases and of course she leaves like walking distance from there lol

Adult coloring books I can use for my coping skills group!

One of my client's told me about this discount store and so I had to check it out for myself. It's cool that they have all sorts of things from$1-$5 like clothes, candies, household items, etc. I saw some great deals on jumbo bags of Trolli Sour candy for $5. But I had my eye out for some things I could use for the groups I facilitate like colored pencils or markers. Those items were overpriced and I could find them cheaper at Target or Walmart. I did find some adult coloring books and grabbed me one that had some positive affirmations. I think this store is hit or miss and will have to keep an eye out for bargains.

This location is great! They have a good selection here & it's in an excellent shopping plaza. It's quite big as well and next to tjmaxx. The service is good. Of course, you'll be overwhelmed on what to buy in the best way.

$1.00 movie candy at Five Below.
Amalia M.

I love Five Below because you can find lots of cute and affordable items. Everything in the store is below $5.00 dollars. The items you can buy are from beauty, home décor, fitness, toys, candy, books, office supplies, and decorations. My favorite thing to check out at the store is the t-shirts. All the t-shirts are $5.00 and sometimes you find good t-shirts with pop culture characters like Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars. The t-shirts are made of good quality and should last for a while. They are a little tight, so I always suggest getting a size bigger. You can find cute gift ideas to give to family and friends. The gifts can be home décor items, beauty products, and toys. This store is in the Downey Promenade and it has plenty of parking. The store was very clean, and the items were stocked well organized. I didn't interact much with staff because everything is easy to find. This store is very convenient because it carries movie theater candy for $1.00. This is a good place to find the Cookie Dough Bites boxes which are sold very expensive at the movie theater. The movie theater charges $3-4.00 for each box but here you can stock up.

Just waiting for one of this lady to correct how she gave me the wrong change.
Daisy H.

Just waiting for one of this lady to correct how she gave me my change, I gave her 2 $50 bills and when I told her my change was wrong she told me I was wrong that I didn't give her 2 $50 bills, mind you this was before she even checked her drawer. Well I made her check because I am sure of what I gave her... turns out I was right...but I have to give Michelle credit she apologized for her error and I appreciate the fact that she realized what happened and fixed the situation and I ended up leaving satisfied and happy with the outcome. Definitely coming back

Bad service and poor communication…read more I've been trying to catalogue my MTG collection lately. I drove 40 min to get to this shop because they have a machine that scans your cards. I paid the shop to rent the machine and waited for 2 hours. Then the staff told me "We made a mistake setting this up. We can't give you the scanned info, but leave your cards behind and your email address, and we can send them over. You'll just need to scan this thing we send you." I was uncomfortable leaving my cards behind because they're important to me. But I didn't want to walk away empty-handed. So I decided to trust them and I left my cards behind. I didn't hear anything for 4 days. I had to call them and they said "Oh the employee you were talking to got sick. If you want to pick up your cards you can do that though." I asked "How about scanning my cards?" and they said "We'll message the sick employee and call you back to let you know what he says". I waited 3 more days and they didn't contact me at all. I realized they weren't going to reach out to me to resolve the issue, so I had to drive down to the store to demand my cards back. I don't know who the person running the back of the shop is. Maybe the manager. Maybe the owner. All I knew is that they had context on the whole situation and knew that I had returned to get my cards. They didn't bother to come over to talk to me. They didn't even give me eye contact. They didn't make even a single attempt at improving the situation. Not even an offer for store credit. Not even a sorry. They just shrugged and yelled across the room "machine's broken". Then they went back to puttering around and left another employee to deal with me. This other employee had no context on the situation. All she could do was hand me a cash refund and give me a confused "Sorry...?" I was treated like I was an annoyance. Someone who'd go away eventually if you ignored them. Not a respected customer who just wanted to do business. I'm not mad that the machine was allegedly broken. I'm only slightly mad that the employees aren't trained on how to use the machine. I'm frustrated that I paid for a service and they didn't bother seeing the job through to the end. They didn't communicate when they decided to give up. I trusted them with my personal card collection and they betrayed that trust. I don't even know if I have all my cards back, but I'll never know. Save yourself the stress.

If you spend 50$ or over on one item then expect there to be something wrong with the item... I bought a small jumphouse for a good chunk of money and it ended up having a hole in it. I couldn't return it because they only have a week to go return. On top of that I bought a soda stream machine for 60$ which had a different C02 bottle in the box. So I couldn't even use it. Both of these items should not have even been on the fucking floor. Why are they selling defective items and only allowing a week to return. People have stuff to do and can't check the items then and there. This was ridiculous don't buy anything that is over 50$ unless you know it's worth it or working. Make sure you're able to return.

It kind of gives you thrift store vibes when you walk in, but I like thrifting so that doesn't bother me at all. They had a lot of different bins with a good percentage off and some good deals. They did have some good luggage and baby items and if I was in that phase of my life, I probably would've purchased something in that area. One of the luggage sets I looked up at Target and they still sell it for regular price and it was about 70% off in this store. I did find a couple of clothing items. If I lived closer to the area, I probably would stop through more often, but it's not a store I would go out of my way to drive to. If I'm in the area again, I definitely wouldn't mind dropping in.

I enjoy finding random things at places like this, and being able to fill a cart for $20 is an excellent deal. When I got there, however, the deal had changed to filling a bag for $20, which is still a very good deal. Upon entry of the building I noticed that the staff was already argueing with other customers. When I asked for a bag, the owner (Rosie) told me, "No, no deal." She pretended not to speak English, even though I've spoken to her in perfect English numerous times. She even told me twice on previous occasions that she is learning Arabic, which I speak a little of. The nephew was apologetic and didn't know what to do. I had only asked about the bags once, and a few other people were asking as well. Minutes later, the owner's husband came charging out of the back office and had a complete meltdown for some unknown reason. He stormed out yelling and swearing that there was no deal today and told his nephew, "I'm the boss here--no one tells me what to do." I then asked him, "If that's not the deal for today, what is?" He wouldn't look at me and just kept yelling that there was no deal today and that the store should be shut down at 10 a.m. He even tried to close the rolling yard gate on us and our cars in the parking lot, but after fumbling with it for a few minutes, he gave up and went back to yelling at random people. I have no idea what his meltdown was about, but the man was unhinged. Oh, and did I mention he was carrying on his hip as well? So I wasn't about to argue with him. I put my cart back and drove away. I will never return, and I warn others to be cautious of this place.

All of it is listed on-line on biglots.com, though part of the fun is finding the deals while physically browsing. It's not a grocery store, but they surprisingly have a lot of non-perishable food items. The problem is that the prices are just as high as what a drug store would charge for the convenience...$5.99 for a 10 pack of soda...not good. THe good deal is when they bought a lot of something that normally would not be in a drug store, and would only be in small quantities at a grocery store. An example were all different types of Bear Creek Dry soup mix....have had this many times (Costco sells it), and it's really good. They had boxes of this stuff sitting out, and the price was $3.99 (which is a lot less than normal ($6.49) price...though Vons is selling on sale right now for $3.99...it has to be related somehow. Of course, this will disappear once they run out. The rule might be...anything they will carry indefinitely (soda, cleaner, snacks) will be at full price. They use a queuing system like Marshalls, one long queue winding through shelves stocked with impulse-buy items, with a few manned registers at the end...so you don't have to worry about picking the wrong line.
