We arrived on a busy Friday night. Parking was a bit tricky as we'd never been here. Parking lot is in the back. Be mindful a lot of streets are one way off the main. We were seated immediately and a few mins later ordered. It arrived shockingly fast. I had the pulled pork which had a bbq made with their root beer. It was so different than anything I've had before. But excellent. My husband had the cheeseburger with egg which was gone in like 6 bites. Fries were average I thought. My son thought the chicken fingers were good. The upstairs where we were sat was pretty loud. It was hard to have a conversation with our table. Also a server was next to us rolling silverware talking about her tables which I thought unprofessional but whatever. I'd return to this location. read more

*Pre-COVID review This review is just for the food (I forgot to get the root beer). I came with a friend on a Friday night and was surprised that it wasn't super crowded. 1. Spinach Artichoke Dip - For almost $10, you get 4 pieces of pita and a small bowl of mediocre spinach artichoke dip. I liked the cheesy aspect of it but the star of the dish was definitely the fresh chopped tomatoes. 2. Bourbon + Fries - The fries were pretty good, soft centers with crispy edges. The hamburger itself was a bit too greasy for me and it kind of fell a part while I was eating it. 3. Smoked Turkey Reuben + Onion Rings. - There was just way too much meat on there (never knew this could be a problem). The fresh chopped pickles helped cut through all the oil and fat. The breading to onion ratio on the onion rings were a bit disproportionate. Overall, an okay experience. We actually kind of had a funny waiter who when we asked for recommendations, she thought none of the food was particularly good. In addition, we asked to separate the two burgers and they gave us so much fries and onion rings it felt like there was 2 separate dishes instead of just one. I was in town from Arizona and seriously craving some gumbo that we don't have down there. I saw it on their menu & HAD to go for it. It was PHENOMENAL. Just the right amount of heat and very flavorful. We also got some spinach & artichoke dip. It was the BEST & creamiest I've ever had. I was so impressed with both of those! Fitz's is a St Louis classic. I used to love coming here as a kid because they bottle the soda in the building throughout the day and you can watch the machines as you are eating! Don't go here expecting a super fancy mean. They have a large selection of unhealthy, but yummy food. They are reasonably priced for the portions and what you get. Another fun thing about Fitz's is the rotating soda. They have fun flavors like a coffee-flavored soda! What I got: I ordered the bottomless soda mug ($4 for unlimited soda. It's only 5 flavors tho. I understand why they do this, but I wish there were more.) Foodwise, I got the Shanghai salad. It had mandarin oranges, cashews, and little crunchy Asian chips with a peanut based sauce. It was good and the portion was good! I had leftovers. I wish I had room leftover for a float bc they look delicious but I was too full! I give them extra points for their perfectly battered fries. One thing I thought was unique was the bbq sauce here is made with rootbeer! I wouldn't want this to be my everyday bbq sauce, but it was interesting! Fitz's gets 4 stars for the atmosphere and soda. I ordered the Cardinals cream soda and it was so good. The regular cream soda was fantastic as well. The pull pork nachos were okay. The pork was on the dry side though. Stopped in here over the weekend to grab some of their famous root beer! We ordered 3 root beers and 1 root beer float to go, and the kind waitress informed us we should just order 4 bottles of root beer and they'd make one a float since it would be cheaper. Such a nice thing to do and it didn't go unnoticed. The root beers and root beer float hit the spot! Their Rootbeer is AWESOME! Quite a variety of options and all the ones we tasted were great! Cool environment...bigger than it appears. If you are near by it is well worth the visit. This was our second time at Fitz's and the kids were just as amazed. We arrived at 5:05 on a Sunday afternoon and were told it would be a 30-45 min wait, which I expected so no big deal. But 20 min later we were being seated. Our waiter was Zach and he was awesome! His timing was perfect, and everything came out pretty fast! For as busy as it was I fully expected to wait much longer. Drinks: My kids ordered floats: Rootbeer, Peanut Butter Cup and Purple Cub. They all loved them and luckily we were able to get to go cups to bring the rest home since these are huge and easily enough for 2 kids to share. I ordered the Purple Rain drink and while it was tasty, it was far too sweet for me and I'm generally someone who likes drinks a bit sweet. Food: My youngest ordered Mac and cheese with smiley fries, can't go wrong there for a 5 year old. The rest of us had the B.L.A.S.T. Wrap (big enough for the 11 year old to eat 3 meals from), the Bourbon burger (again, huge but she loved it.), and the Porgy & Beef, which was pretty good. The sauce was very flavorful but beware it's quite messy so ask for extra napkins! Overall, this is a great place to bring the family. Upstairs they even have arcade games and pool tables. Not really a place I would go often as it's a bit out of the way and pricey but for a special night out, it's a total win for everyone. read more

After hearing all the buzz about Fitz's, we were finally excited to try it! We were seated promptly on the second floor, where you not only have a pretty view outside but a good view of the soda making process. The burgers were tasty- I had gotten the king Louis which had beef, pieces of steak, and several different types of veggies. Service was wonderful, and our drinks were never empty! Everything I could ever want in a root beer float! The gigantic size with a total of 4 scoops of ice cream!! It was my first time there so I just played it safe with a regular root beer, but you can choose any of the flavors on the menu for the float. The picture shows only HALF of the root beer float because the waitress split it for our group of 3. The free root beer bottle to go was also a nice touch. Another bonus, because it was our first time there, the waitress even gave us samples of the different root beer flavors to try! Fitz's is a classic St. Louis restaurant that's in need of an overhaul. Our service was good, but a bit uneven. We started with the toasted raviolis and they were an exceptional example of the St Louis classic. Our entrees came out quickly after t-ravs but were all lukewarm. The consensus at the table was that all entrees were acceptable, but rather bland. After a long pause, we had root beer floats, as they are the star attraction. They are beautiful in presentation, but I prefer root beer with a little more fizz and ice cream that's a little more frozen. Still, I think younger families would really enjoy the experience when their kids see the root beer floats. The not so good part. Fitz's interior hasn't been updated in 20 years and it shows. Went here for dinner one night with our 1.5yr and 4yr old for dinner while we were on vacation in St.Louis. Service was great, I wanna say our servers name was Andrea or Amanda (it started with an A) ‍ anyways she was fantastic so friendly and kind! The food was delicious, our kids shared the Mac n cheese and LOVED the fresh pineapples on the side. My husband and I shared the chili and OH MY it's our new favorite chili we have ever had. It was a HUGE serving so perfect to share and went oh soooooo good with their crispy fries I got the bottomless mug and tried their cream soda and cardinal cream and both were FANTASTIC!
