Plush velvet curtains and banquettes, wood paneling and sofas set in front of a warm contemporary fireplace, smashing colored artwork and framed prints covering the walls, dim lights and votive candles. From the ceiling dangles a sparkling disco ball, thick drapes hang ballooned above, like the inside of a caravan. The description of Gatsby meets Studio 54 suitably describes this spot.
Service is stellar, the drinks are top notch. Flip thru the menu and each specialty cocktail is given it's own dedicated page with artwork and adjectives highlighting the specialities of each one. We got a Bloomsbury Cup No. 1 (£14) and their famous Vesca Negroni (£14), a twist on the classic that evolves in the glass, made with Ford's Gin, Luxardo Bitter Bianco and Dolin Blanc, served over an ice cube made of woodland strawberry juice, aloe vera, coconut essence and Sacred English Dry Vermouth that releases flavour as it melts.
Our waiter was lovely and very accommodating, the Twiglets (basically pretzel-like snacks flavored with Marmite) were strangely addicting--I think we polished off 3 bowls of these, and did I already mention the drinks were delicious?
So good that I was tempted to try the Spy Princess and Golden Echo, but alas the midnight was nigh and a long day awaited next morning, so it's "so long" until we meet again! read more
