I was recommended by a friend to try out this school. They had two different prices, teens and…read moreadults. Teens is a set amount, $240 I think, and adults are paid based on the hours. I was charged as as teen even though I was an adult. Being in a state of urgent trying to get my license ASAP, I didn't argue. I signed up for behind the wheel and it is suppose to take whole week, but I was done in three days because the driving instructor took shortcut and made the records on the paper look like it was done in a week. Once again, being in a state of urgent, I didn't argue. During my time with the instructor, he first mentioned my license would get to me in about a month and a half. On my third day, he mentioned it would take three months. I thought he was mistaken with his words so I didn't say anything about it. He took my paper work and gave me a paper, which serve as a temporary license. A month passed, no news. I texted my instructor a few times wondering if I could check on the status of my license, never a straight answer, just kept on telling me to wait three months. After awhile, I got worried so I called DMV. As you would have it, DMV had no record of me finishing my behind the wheel. I confronted my instructor about it, he said he couldn't talk because his uncle died. I spoke with his boss, seemed like a nice guy at first, but turned sour after a day. See, the thing is I wasn't worry about waiting, I was worry about my paperwork. The reason they said it would take three months is because DMV takes a long time to process as it got to take care of all the people in the state. When I found out DMV doesn't have my paperwork, that means my instructor held onto my paperwork for one month for God knows why. Eventually I brought my "temporary license" to DMV and got my license in A WEEK!! Had I given a second chance, I'd totally go with some driving school that's less shady than this crap school.

The location was a little hard to find, but all of the local businesses were friendly and showed me the way. I was very happy to find them still working after having taken the proper precautions. Uma, the instructor had decided to give one-on-one classes for all who needed it. I was able to make an appointment right away. She was kind, knowledgeable and thorough. She took the time to explain everything to me in as much detail as I wanted. Allowing me to ask questions and providing useful information in a very personable and friendly manner. The time seemed to fly by in her class, which may be due to how funny the instructor was. Uma also gave me tips to navigate the DMV process and system. She told me I could contact her in the future if I had any need for advice. I cannot stress enough how highly I recommend the Defensive Driving Academy.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would…read more Just to be clear, I'm only reviewing my personal experience at the Fairfax location near George Mason University. My instructor was Jessica, so I can't speak for the other instructors or locations. I came here as a complete beginner expecting an MSF course to actually teach me how to ride. Instead, after struggling with one of the basic turning exercises, I was given basically two attempts before Jessica pulled out a paper and told me I was done and could come back another time - for an additional fee. Ironically, on my next attempt I actually did the exercise correctly. What bothered me most wasn't even being removed from the course. It was the way the instructor handled it. There was very little actual explanation of what I was doing wrong. Instead, she was constantly yelling things like "What are you doing?" That's not teaching, especially when you're dealing with someone who is sitting on a motorcycle for the first time. I spent around $350 on this course plus about five hours completing their online theory, and it was basically money and time thrown away. I refused to come back and pay them a second time out of principle. Instead, I practiced on my own and went through the Virginia DMV process, passing both the knowledge and riding tests. The DMV riding test is harder, but honestly, passing it gave me much more confidence in my ability to actually control a motorcycle. If you're a complete beginner, my advice would be to learn and practice somewhere else first and consider trying the DMV route before paying for this course. If you can't pass the DMV test, then sure, an MSF course may still make sense. But I definitely wouldn't recommend this particular course as the place to learn from scratch. A beginner motorcycle course should teach beginners, not expect them to already know how to ride.

I am originally from South Korea and exchanged my Korean driver's license to VA one. So I didn't have driving experience in the states at all and haven't driven for more than 5 years since I got my license in Korea. I wanted to start driving here but I was so nervous and scared. I finally decided to take some driving lessons and contacted almost every single driving schools in Alexandria where I live. None of them answered their phone and replied my email except this 1 Safe Driving School. I went with 10 hours behind wheels lessons and I met my Instructor 5 times on weekend for 2 hours each. They offer pick-up and drop-off service with their practice-car and you will drive that car. I practiced with him from driving around in neighborhood area to how to take a highway including parking lesson. After I finished all the lessons, now I feel more comfortable, confident, and safe while I am driving and I am not scared anymore. So these days, I can drive by my self and I earned a freedom to go wherever I want! Little bit about the instructor whom I practiced with, he was very nice and punctual with our schedule. As I remember, he has more than 8 years experience as a driving school instructor and he knows all most every single road in this area. He can control break while you are practicing even at the passenger sit. I still remember and recall all the advice and lesson he gave me and they are very helpful. (I am still mumbling "look around...look around" when I reverse my car in a parking lot lol) I would recommend this school to my close friends or family. My time and money were worth it. Much better than high chance of getting into an accident which would cost me a lot more. Thanks to Islam again and hope this review is helpful for those who are considering to take this class.
