My daughter completed the lecture portion of her driver's education course on November 21, 2025. As of today, April 2, 2026, we have been unable to schedule the remaining driving lessons required to complete the program, despite payment being made in full and upfront. Students are required to log on every Friday after 6:00 PM to attempt to book a single lesson at a time. We have only been able to secure two lessons -- both of which required us to continuously refresh the company's webpage for up to an hour before a slot appeared. One of those lessons had to be canceled due to illness, leaving four lessons still outstanding. Since, we have been completely unable to secure any availability whatsoever. This scheduling system -- which restricts students to booking only one lesson per week and makes availability impossible to access -- is grossly inadequate and, at worst, deliberately deceptive. The chronic lack of availability is a strong indicator that this company is knowingly enrolling more students than it has the capacity to serve. This constitutes a failure to deliver contracted services. Compounding this issue, we have been entirely unable to reach anyone at the company by phone. Numerous voicemails have been left with no response. The complete lack of customer communication, combined with the inaccessible scheduling system, reflects a pattern of negligent and potentially fraudulent business practices. My daughter's learner's permit will expire before she is able to complete this course through Safe By Choice Driving, forcing us to enroll in another driving school at additional expense -- despite having already paid this company in full. The virtual instructor was attentive, and made learning the material easy. The driving instructor is one of the most insufferable people I have ever met, and I learned absolutely nothing while in the car with her. She refused to teach me to parallel park because it wasn't on the test, and did not actually teach me anything about highway driving. She ALMOST refused to teach me how to back in without a camera because "the driving test allows cameras." I took the test with a car without cameras, so that slight refusal ticked me off. Absolutely do not recommend, go to any other school ever. Side note: It's worse if you're not a Christian. She asked me all 3 lessons if I was. Not sure how that tied into my driving.

Before my lessons with Mr. Ish, the only driving experience I had as a 36 year old was some parking lot practice, and a one hour lesson with a different school (which I didn't think was very helpful so I didn't continue). I took 5 lessons of 2 hours each (10 hours total) with him and found him to be an incredibly patient and supportive instructor. I had a lot of anxiety going into the whole process, and his calm presence always put me at ease and made me more confident. When I would make a mistake like making too wide of a turn into a streeet, he would point it out but also ask me why I did it that way. It felt like he really wanted to get to the root of the issue to help fix it. In the case of turning too wide, we realized that I was misjudging the distance of my car from the parked cars on the street. This thoughtful approach really helped diagnose and correct issues as they came up and it was so satisfying to visibly see myself improve. His approach to teaching parallel parking was super clear, and I was able to confidently parallel park during the test, and have now also done it in relatively tight spots on DC streets! He also recommended doing a last lesson right before the test in the Deanwood neighborhood (where the DMV test takes place). This was great advice, and Mr. Teddy accommodated me for a pre-test lesson on short notice. I used the school's car for the test, which was helpful since I was familiar with it. The day of the test there was a really long wait at the DMV and Mr. Teddy waited with me patiently and was also really supportive. All the communication and reminders from the school about lesson times, locations were timely and clear, Mr. Ish was always on time for picking me up, and it was just a seamless experience end to end.

I left the car clean and thought everything was fine. The next day I was charged an $100 cleaning fee. I called because I thought it was a mistake, but I was told I dumped trash behind the business, and people had seen me and recorded me. That was impossible since I did not dump any trash. My U-Haul was to bring large furniture to my new apartment there were never even any trash bags in the truck. I asked to review the footage and was told it would be sent to me. It's been four days, and I have not received any footage, just photos of trash bags nowhere near where I left my truck. I asked the woman on the phone to review the footage, as I was certain I hadn't dumped any trash, but she refused. I had to go through UHaul to get my money back, and I never received any apology or acknowledgment that I was accused of something I did not do and then charged.

I went on Yelp and found Safe Driving School. The lady was pleasant, so I went ahead and signed her up. That same evening my daughter was driving. The driving instructor was beyond knowledgeable and kind. Unlike the other driving school instructor, he knew where he was going and wasn't constantly looking at his phone. He also spent the entire time with my daughter and gave her some tips that I am even going to use. If you end up enrolling in this school and later want to withdraw, don't even bother; they don't like giving you your own money back. Instead, they'll make the very simple process harder and more complicated than it needs to be. They try to scare you by saying they'll "report you to the MVA" and claim you won't be able to enroll in another school. I signed up in September 2025 and lasted only about an hour on the first day before leaving. The "class" was just orientation, with the instructor making rude comments, scaring people about cameras, and even yelling at students for briefly turning cameras off. When I decided to withdraw (which their policy says should mean a full refund if it's the first day), the nightmare really started. The owners and their family were beyond unprofessional, and don't get me started on the instructor (Mr. Ben). Every time I called or went to the office, they verbally harassed me, told me I was "costing them money," They kept dragging things out, making me come back and forth, and flat-out told me, "MVA won't help you" and "Not even your bank will give your money back." It took MVA and my bank getting involved for me to finally get my refund almost a month later. I've since heard from other students that the behind-the-wheel lessons are just as bad, with instructors running errands, blasting music, and yelling at students instead of actually teaching. These people are beyond shameful and disrespectful. They act like they're the only driving school in Maryland, but trust me, they are not. Save yourself the headache and choose another school that actually treats students with respect.
