If I could give Teddy more than 5 stars I would. Wow! Just wow! Here's my story: I am not from the U.S. and up until I met Teddy and got behind the wheel, I was not familiar with U.S. roads and traffic rules. I have NEVER had to drive in my life. The 2-3 times I came close to driving was mostly stick-shift and the steering wheel was always on the right hand side of the vehicle. I have been in the U.S. for almost 5 years and only recently got my lazy self to apply for a learner's permit (which I then kept in my wallet and forgot about). A week before my learner's permit was about to expire, I freaked out as I did not want to take the stupid knowledge test again or go through DMV harassment. In a state of panic, I Yelped, Googled, talked to friends - "What should I do???" - There was just no way that I could get lessons or even a road skills test scheduled before August/Sept. I was about to give up when I came across Teddy. I called him and he picked up the phone immediately (other driving schools do NOT pick up or IF they pick up, there's an automated message or some rude, condescending operator acting like it is the worst thing in the world that you do not know how to drive). Teddy was so responsive, courteous, and assuring that I knew I would be in good hands with him and the other instructor Mr. Hassan. Teddy kept true to all his promises and delivered against all odds! He arranged my lessons on very short notice. I told him I need more hours and instead of not caring and making me pay for more hours, he assessed me and honestly said that I do not need more hours. He then worked around my crazy schedule, he somehow squeezed in a road skills test for me (miracle!!!), and dealt with all minor hiccups so amazingly, that I never felt like I was an idiot behind the wheel (even though I might have been at times haha). He treated me more like a friend than a customer, which is just the best thing ever. And guess what! I passed my test and got my license - exactly on the day my learner's permit was set to expire. I selected this school because of all the positive reviews I've read online. However, to fully understand how great DC Driving School is, I'll suggest that you sign up yourself. I expected DC Driving School to be great. But, the school was well beyond that; I signed up for a total of four hours of behind the wheel training. During those hours Mr. Ish was my instructor. I wasn't very confident. However, Mr. Ish - with all his positive reinforcement quickly canceled any negative emotion that I was having. He was very knowledgeable and he's very passionate about teaching and informing me on the skills I needed to make my test day a success. He quickly made note of my learning style and as a result he was able to explain things in a way that I could not only understand, but remember. I also purchased the car for my test date along with one hour of driving instruction prior to the test. For that, my instructor was Mr. Teddy. Mr. Teddy was great at informing me on what to expect during the test. He not only informed me on what I was doing correctly but we quickly went over those things that I needed to improve. We have never met prior to the test. But, that had no restriction on him wanting me to pass my driving exam. He cared just as much as I did; and I thought that was very important. He noticed by observation that I was nervous. He then explained the importance of me remaining calm during the exam. As a result of Mr. Ish and Mr. Teddys' passion and instruction. Let me just start by saying that Mr. Ish and Mr. Teddy and the best to instructors. I have first found the DC Start Diving School on line through yelp. They had very great reviews and all the comments praised them for being Very patient with new drivers and adult drivers just starting off. I felt very at ease with Mr. Ish and he have me great directions during our lesson. I learned the importance of being a safe driver and what common mistakes that are made. I felt good even when I made slight mistakes while driving and Mr. Ish took his time explaining to me what the mistakes were and why it was important when driving not to make them. Mr. Ish took me on practice runs on the skills and area that I would have to take the road test on. Let's just say when I ended my lesions I was a more confident and stronger driver. I signed up for the 10 hours lesion that is spread out two hours per day. You might not need the full 10 hours of your just taking a refresher lesion but I would recommend if you starting out book the 10 hour option it's well worth it. I pass the road test on my first try. I also book them to use there vehicle to take my road test Mr. Teddy meet me at the drive and was very informative also on the things that the instructor would be looking for and had me go over them on last time while I waited on the instructor. 10 stars for this school! Like most people in my high school class, I got my learner's permit at 16, but one thing after another kept me from learning to drive and taking the road test (I can make a lot of excuses). Anyways, now as an adult, I get super anxious about driving and never thought I'd actually be ready for the road test. I took a class with Mr. Hassan after taking a couple classes with another school in DC; he was really great and so much more useful in two hours than the other classes combined. He gave me really direct feedback and was overall, a great person to learn from. It was super useful to drive through the actual exam route. Especially with varying levels of opposing traffic that I really really needed practice with. I went for my road test yesterday with Teddy after an hour of practice. I was so incredibly nervous but he was really friendly and good at keeping me calm/giving me confidence. The practice right before the test through the exam routes was great. He gave me a lot of really important reminders and tips. I googled "good driving schools around the DC area" and a few driving schools came up. Out of those I found only a couple of driving schools that have 5 star reviews. One of them was Ethio Star Driving School. I called the number and someone actually picked up their phone. They have a great customer service. Since I am a DC resident the guy gave me the DC Star Driving School instructor number and we set up a date to start my lesson. I was a first time driver so I was not sure what kind of experience was waiting for me and I was a bit anxious and hesitant about the whole thing. I am the kind of person who learns best when they teach me very calmly and in detail. To my great delight I found Tadiwos, my newfound driving instructor to be a very patient, and professional guy. He was the picture of cool, calm and collected and I was very encouraged by that. He puts you in your comfort zone immediately. He gives excellent and clear instructions that are detailed and has a way of explaining things in a way you can get them easily. He sensed what I needed to work on and impressed those things on me patiently while encouraging me the whole time. I am very grateful for his instructions and his personality. He is an excellent instructor. I had a great driving experience. They booked my Road Test for me and I passed my Road Test on the first try in a very short time. Honestly, I am impressed by the patience and teaching method I received. Let me first start off by saying Mr.Teddy was impeccable and that itself is an understatement. This is my second time taking the road test and of course I passed! The first time I took the road test, the DMV didn't have parallel parking on the test but regardless of that I did perform good. The examiner the first go round was rude and honestly failed me as soon as he laid eyes on me. He lied to the driving instructor and indicated that I hit a curb, which I did not but a fail is a fail and that was that. The first driving instructor I had from another driving school was HORRIBLE!! (I won't name the school due to keeping negativity out of my review but if you would like to know, you can message me). That instructor yelled, was sarcastic, and overall careless. Mr.Teddy on the other hand had a strategy, key points, and a lesson acronym to remember which had me parallel perfectly on the first try! I also really appreciated that he treated me more so like a friend than just some student. That put me at ease and calmed any getters. I could not have made a better choice in a driving school. I'd put off getting a driver's license for some time, and had gotten to a point where I was anxious, unsure and pretty fearful of anything to do with getting on the road. After just one session being instructed by Teddy (who is endlessly patient and calm), I felt far more prepared to be on the road. Both he and Mr. Ish were fantastic - they walked me through my weak spots step by step, explained best practices and rules, and helped me rehearse time and time again until I got it right. Teddy was always very responsive to e-mails and requests, and sent a reminder every evening before a driving lesson. Mr. Ish put me at ease, was incredibly thorough in his explanations, and got me feeling confident behind the wheel. I also booked car usage and practice before the road test obscenely early on a Saturday morning, and Teddy gamely got up to meet me and do one last practice run - I ended up passing on my first try! The rates are among the most reasonable in D.C., the teachers are calm, patient and informative, and I can't think of a single problem with the service. I'm a 30 year old woman who put off getting my license for years and years because of anxiety from my teenage years related to learning to drive and being in an accident. I finally decided to take the plunge and chose Star Driving School due to its great ratings and many reviews from people like me who struggled in the past. After practicing on my own a little with my brother, I booked one two hour session of practice and an hour before the road skills test plus use of their car for the test. I was a little nervous for my first class, but the instructor (Mr. Ish) was calm and kind and gave me some great tips for the test. We practiced the routes used for the test and pointed out areas where people often make mistakes. On the day of the test, I had another instructor who was also amazing (Teddy). He gave great feedback like, "good judgement," when I made a decision which really helped build my confidence. When we went into the DMV to register, everyone knew him by name and he had a great rapport with the staff. Passed the test on my first try and feel much more confident as a driver thanks to DC Star Driving School and their great instructors! I drove primarily with Mr. Ish and would highly recommend working him. His instruction, praise, and criticism are well-delivered and helped me to improve. He was also very patient and attentive to my questions and needs: we parallel parked until I was completely confident, and he helped me to practice highway driving even though it's not on the test. The school was also very communicative and professional throughout. DC Star Driving School offers a great set of services. Each session (I booked 5) is two hours of individual instruction on or near testing routes. I used their vehicle for the test and also booked an extra hour of instruction beforehand, which took me back over the test route and reminded me of key skills the examiner would look for. I had initially learned to drive in high school, but wasn't confident and didn't get my license at that time. Ten years later, I've had a 180! If I could give Mr. Teddy a 6/5 star rating I would. I decided to opt in for the 10 hours of instruction being that I had no behind the wheel experience (which proved to be more than enough time). I decided I wanted to learn how to drive and pass my driving test during my week-long spring break, which required me to have instructions close to everyday. Throughout the course of instruction, Mr. Teddy always made me feel comfortable, and gave me helpful tips and tricks which resulted in immediate improvement. Additionally, when I would make stupid mistakes, he would never fail to be encouraging and let me know where I had gone wrong. He also took me on the driving test routes numerous times in order to ensure my success for the road test. I took the test at the end of the week and PASSED!! I have always been nervous about driving, but decided to give the driving test a try this year. I've lived in big cities most of my life, so driving wasn't necessary, but it's a skill I always wanted to pick up, but was afraid to try. DC Star driving instructors (Mr. teddy and Mr. Ish) really helped me overcome the fear and be in control of the car. After just 2hrs, I felt much more comfortable and less nervous. Even though I have not driven before, after 10hrs of lessons, I felt ready for the road test. One of the best thing I did was to also get the 1hr pre-test + car package. I used DC Star driving school about 1 month ago. I used their discount for the 1 hour driving plus car usage for the road test and they booked a road test for me right after my driving lesson. They arranged all of this within a week of me calling them which was amazing! I had just failed a driving test (due to a silly mistake) and I really needed a license ASAP. The other driving school had told me I had to wait another 3 weeks as that was their next available road test spot so to hear that I could do my test again 6 days later was great! They were really nice and responsive on the phone when I explained my situation. I opted for the 1 hour driving lesson before the test just to make myself feel more comfortable. D.C. Star driving school is the best one ever. I knew my road test date at the last minute. They prepared for me everything within 24 hours. Mr. Ish is a very good instructor. He used to work as an examiner at Maryland. He knew every tricky for road test. I made practice with him for 2 hrs before my road test. Then Ted also helped me a lot. He arranged for me everything to rent a car for my road test. Because I let him knew that i had a road test one day ahead. They didn't have car to rent me. But he asked another school and everything was smooth. I've passed my road test because of them. Ted helped me willingly. Both instructors are very good and not like others. I had a great experience learning to drive with Teddy. He was calm, patient, and gave me the confidence I didn't have. I took a total of three lessons, drove through the exam routes, and practiced various road skills, until both Teddy and I felt comfortable with my performance. Teddy was with me the day of my test as I used his car and he was encouraging and assured me that I'll do well. Back in 2009 I was trained by 3 different people to drive and by the time I was done, I was barely comfortable to get around a parking lot. After my first 30 minute lesson with Mr. Ish, I was comfortable to drive on any street. I initially booked 10 hours of training and when it finally came to my exam day, I decided to borrow their car, had the 1 hour practice before with Teddy and I passed the exam on my first try.
