I've had great experiences with Ethio Star. The scheduling process is super easy and convenient, I was able to schedule my lessons all at once which allowed me to plan better. The owner is very responsive and the instructors really know what they're doing. Boris was the best instructor I had. He was friendly and nice and noticed what areas I needed improvement in and we practiced more on those than the others. They know the road test route well and make sure you practice along the route. I'm sure the other instructors are good too but do yourself a favor and practice with Boris. His patience is great and he knows how to put things in terms you'd understand- he made a reference to shrek and I knew what he meant. read more

9/15/2021 I am always saddened to speak ill against any business; especially when it is one that is of my own ethnicity. On September 7, 2021 I took my road test, with Ethio Star Driving School(Ethio Star) conducting it. Ethio Star has mastered the art of robbery without a gun. I advise you-all not to take your road test with them. They are failing people intentionally just to make more money off of you. I parked a few inches away from what would be the curb, and was told that it wasn't good enough. Mr. Eyob would eventually tell me that the road test was over because my parking didn't meet his standards. I was puzzled because to my knowledge the only deduction that'll end the test is failing to stop at a Stop sign or bumping one of the cones while attempting to park. I would learn later that they aren't in compliance with the DMV score deduction. Ethio Star deducts 80% of your score for failing to park . Furthermore, he would tell me that I can take the test again for $120. Well, I took the test again yesterday, but with CAS Driving school and passed. They were cordial. I highly recommend this driving school. I did 7 or so hours of instruction and passed my test. The instructor provides step by step procedures for things like turning, parking, pulling out of parking, managing roundabouts, switching lanes, etc. I only have two complaints: my instructor was late to the first session which was annoying but the manager gave me an extra lesson to make up for the inconvenience. And my instructor occasionally got too comfortable with my driving and stopped paying attention which I really disliked. He would begin texting and not analyzing my driving. On one occasion he forgot to tell me we were going to turn so i kept driving straight. He was texting and when he realized i was driving past the intersection he wanted me to turn onto he took the wheel and made a turn over me. That was very unsafe and unprofessional. He definitely didnt do that throughout the entire session or at every session but it was still annoying. I rented their car for the exam. They didn't provide much guidance on what to expect that day which would have been helpful to ease the nerves. But the experience was fine regardless. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I can not state this firmly or emphatically enough. I regret I didn't read the reviews before booking this firm for my son's driving test. The driving instructor, Mr. Eyobe Tadesse, charged an extra $40 on top of the $100 spent when we reserved his services. He flunked my son in 7 minutes! That, after my son paralleled parked perfectly not once, but twice as you'll see in the attached video. His explanation was that my son didn't park close enough to the curb - both tires needed to "firmly touch the curb." The tires had half an inch of space between them and the curb! On the second try, Mr. Tadesse claimed he pulled too close to the curb and rubbed the tires. This is the biggest scam ever! Did he expect us to reschedule with him again? Please pay attention to the reviews and save your money. I went a step further and reported this company to the Better Busines Bureau, but I believe the District should remove them as a trusted 3rd party vendor. It appears they're more interested in getting paid through repeated tests, than actually passing people who are required to have driven a minimum of 40 hours of daylight driving. In my son's case, he had been driving for 6 months due to a recording error on his temporary license before being able to get tested! Just outrageous what's going on here! read more

I was referred to Ethio Star by my aunt who told me that this driving school has a great reputation. I am glad to report that, though there were some scheduling issues, I was able to pass my test this past week weekend. I am must say that the owner of Ethio Star, Mr. Tadesse is one of the most accommodating people I have ever met, who worked with my work schedule and actually winded up becoming my instructor. The best lesson I had with the company was actually the day of my test, which put me at ease and gave me confidence to ace the actual road test. I just to start by saying this is the most unprofessional experience I've had with a driving school. I took classes with Ethio Star in late November 2019. My instructor Stephan was late picking up and didn't give me my full driving time on my first lesson. I barely learned anything dealing with this driving school and I've had 10 hours of driving time. The only one time I had a good driving experience with this organization was with a different instructor named Koffee. I WILL NOT BE RECOMMENDING THIS SCHOOL TO ANYONE ELSE EVER!!!! read more

Great driving school! I passed my road test on my first try and it wouldn't have been possible without Elias, my driving instructor. He was patient and helped me overcome my fear of driving. It was very easy to schedule my lessons online and they always stayed in contact with me. They were also honest with me. All I needed was 8 hours of lessons and they never tried to get more lessons out of me. I highly recommend this driving school to anyone who is looking to learn to drive in DC. I got my driving license today and I owe it entirely to Ethios driving school. Mr. Eyoub, the owner, is a most nice and kind person to deal with, who is extremely responsive to requests. Every time I called him regarding a scheduling issue, he tried his very best to accommodate me. I mostly had Stefan as my instructor who is great. He is very patient and detailed. He gave me excellent tips to perfect my parking, reverse, turning, etc. I couldn't have hoped for a better school -- am so glad I took lessons from them. This school is amazing!! I had two instructors and I did 6 lessons with them (but I had a huge break after my third) as I had to leave out of town for a while and did 3 more classes just before the test. Also, I had to change my slots around a lot due to that unforeseen travel - they were so friendly and easy to work with. (I changed my classes and test dates THRICE) and they were so accommodating!!! I must say I had a HUGE phobia getting on the road but they really made me so confident and also helped me understand so well. Both my instructors were dedicated and great! I am glad I got the chance to work with these instructors. They really helped me understand the rules far better and also gave a lot of insightful tips and guidance. And oh, their patience is commendable! Extremely great people! I had no experience AT ALL before these 6 lessons. Boris taught me what to look out for,the common mistakes rookies do, what I should not be doing and made me familiar with the area around the DMV as well. I only had 2 classes with him but he definitely taught me a lot! and he was also very encouraging when I did something right which boosts your confidence, especially when you are learning. And I just did my first driving test today and passed it really well! I am really happy and yes, proud of myself too - but certainly, this would not have been possible without Eithos Star Driving School. Thank you for being the best school ever! I just warning you anybody that just want past the driving test with this school but you have not taking clases with this school you will not pass the test they just look the minimal error you do ..... For example if you touch the line you will not pass even if you know how you can drive this is ridiculous because you just pay the rent of the car they make you to pay more money in my experience I drive for 28 year's and try to have my license .... Anybody just be careful because they cannot even let you enter at their office they just do everything by phone or website ......guys look for a company that let you enter in their office at least ..... I passed my road test after driving with Ethio 20 hours and I never drove before. The instructors are definitely very experienced and patient, especially Eyob, Stephen and Franklin. We practiced a lot at the test area which is definitely very helpful. I'm glad I did my first time driving lesson with them, they make you so comfortable driving behind the wheel. I took one class with Ethio Star to practice around the testing area just before my road test, and I also used an Ethio Star car for my test. Mr. Tadesse is a very rigorous instructor, who regularly acts as an examiner for third-party road tests. He very precisely pointed out even my smallest mistakes, which my other instructor had never pointed out. Thanks to him, I passed with a nearly perfect score even though I had only been driving for a week. Mr. Tadesse is also an extremely pleasant person; I was happy to have him as a teacher. (Jan 2018) I scheduled a 2 hr behind the wheel session. The day of my session I drove with Mr Thomas...who was a great instructor. I subsequently chose another school because Ethio Star was booked up (I needed more hours; learners permit was expiring the following week). Overall, great communication with the school, and my instructor was wonderful. I was able to pass my road test, on the first try, with the help of Ethio Star driving school along with another school.
