Last January, I signed up for a package of 6 lessons with Elaine as a licensed adult driver who felt anxious about city driving, highway driving, parallel parking -- you name it. I am so grateful I did that because Elaine helped me feel more confident on the road. We covered a lot of ground (figuratively and literally) in those 6 lessons together, which spanned from January to April of 2022. Between those lessons and an additional 2-hour highway lesson with her in May, I now feel much more comfortable behind the wheel. If you're in need of some driving practice after living in the city for so long, I would highly recommend her! The only negative is that Elaine is popular and books up fast. If you're thinking about signing up, you may want to consider booking your lessons far in advance so you have your choice of days and times. read more

DO NOT WASTE MONEY HERE I had 10 hours driving lessons with another school. I booked an appointment road test with this company today. I failed the test. It's nothing to say if I am really bad at driving. The examiner was late for 30mins. My appointment was 1pm and he came 1:28pm. He is an old man and kind of rude. He talked on his phone all the time. We started the test and he failed me after 2 mins of driving test. Stoped on crosswalk but I don't think I did. He made a drama as it's a big fault. He didn't want to complete my test. He failed me immediately. Probably he has another appointment and he was late from the first appointment that's why. He didn't tell me that 1 fault can caused my failure. He asked me for another appointment next week which is I have to pay $80 again. I paid $80 for a late examiner and rude. Really disappointed with this company. read more

Excellent experience getting a drivers road test yesterday. Representative closely followed COVID a protocols and the process went smoothly.

My experience with CAS Driving School was absolutely excellent. Their team was very helpful and informative at every step of the way from booking to the road test. I booked two services - 1 hour of driving instruction and car usage w/o pickup for my DMV road test. The only thing I would change is to opt for car usage w/ pickup for the added convenience of getting to and from the appointment. I worked with Mr. Smith and Mr. Cheeks, respectively. They were both knowledgeable and friendly, providing real examples to prepare for the road test. I felt confident after their instruction (prior to the road test you get some additional time to practice in the car you will use!). For both appointments I received an email 24 hours prior and a call/text the day of the appointment about 1 hour prior. I would also like to add that I spoke with another member of their team to adjust my appointments early on in my booking process, and they were very friendly and courteous about making the corrections I needed. I went to CAS to get my third party driving test. I passed. The sweet old guy who took the test was very nice. (I forgot his name). He came right on time. Checked my car and then we went on a drive. First I thought that he was very serious. He could understand that I was very nervous. So he eased me into it. I was first tested for parallel parking. It was not perfect but he guided me to correct it. Then we went around the area. I was given clear instructions. It was a great exp. Highly recommended. read more

I finally got around to getting my drivers license off my bucket list after putting it off for a decade. I took a refresher course with Charles Smith and then we rescheduled a pre road test and then onto the road test itself. I had Charles for the refresher and pre road test and he was very nice and we had a good chat as we drove around the city for my refresher course. The pre road test made me comfortable for the actual test. I had the test w/ a different gentleman and he was very quiet which made me nervous, but I passed all the same. Andre Cheeks, driving instructor, is the man. He recently taught my little sister to drive, and i was very impressed in many ways. First, my sister is kind of a nervous wreck when it comes to things like being responsible for a hunk of metal that ways thousands of pounds careening through populated areas. It's just the sort of pressure she normally can't handle very well. Within a day or two of her starting lessons with Andre, there was a VERY clear difference in her confidence behind the wheel. Within a day or two more, there was a marked increase in her competence as well. Objectively, it was easy to see that he made her a better driver in a very short amount of time. What impresses me even more, though, was how friendly and personable he was. It got to a point where after a week or two, my sister wanted me to bring my dog outside so Andre could meet her (because they've spoken so much about her, it seems!). They spent hours talking about tv and movies and music, and I think they even made each other mixtapes by the time they were done. Heck, my sister even liked him so much that she cross-stitched him a pillow with our local NFL team's logo on it. Being good at your job is one thing - and Andre is clearly great teaching people how to drive. But being an awesome person while doing it and making sure everyone involved is having a great time? That's in a whole 'nother league. Andre is the man. I would recommend him to anyone. read more

I feel comfortable writing this review since I have passed my driving test with a different driving school here in Austin after leaving DC. My experience with Mr. Charles as my driving instructor was extremely negative. Throughout my six hours of lessons driving with him he would tell me I was spoiled, arrogant, and childish. At the time, I thought he was just being playful but now knowing what a good driving instructor is (at a school here in Austin) I can look back and honestly say his commentary was hurtful, unprofessional and in some instances, quite rude. One instance that really stands out to me was my last lesson with Charles. I was on Rhode Island ave and changing lanes and he immediately grabbed my wheel and jerked the car back into my original lane. A driver in a minivan then rolled down his window and yelled "you're going to fail your test." It was very jarring. Charles just laughed. I was in tears as this was the night before my test and my nerves were really getting to me. I did not pass the next day. Mr. Charles was supposed to meet me at the testing center and said that we could do a couple loops (I hadn't paid for this so I wasn't expecting it; but he said he would meet me numerous times the night before) and when he didn't show up it made me even more nervous. The lessons were expensive and judging from the reviews it seems like their other instructors are good teachers. I recall the online appointment system to be very easy to use; so that's a plus. I am proud to write the first review. My very first time driving was with Mr. Smith. When I came up to the car he was already in the passenger seat. Scared the mess out of me. I thought we was going to do some parking lot driving since it was my first time. Not So!. I got behind the wheel and my lesson begin. They pick you up and drop you off. Mr. Smith is more generous with the drop offs. Just let him know where you want to end up when you get in the car. I took about 10 hours of lessons, over about two months because it takes so long to get an appointment with the DC DMV. I took lessons with both Mr. Smith and Ms. Elaine. They have different styles but they will recognize and correct your errors. I got the same instructions from them both, but its seems more natural coming from Ms. Elaine (idk why). If you're just beginning Mr. Smith is the way to go. He tends to be more detailed. If you're a little comfortable behind the wheel Ms. Elaine may be the person for you. She's more relaxed and casual. Or it could be that the first couple times I went out was with Mr. Smith and I needed the extra guidance (idk lol). Anyway they know everyone at the DMV. They make sure you're extremely comfortable with the DMV parking lot and the possible routes for the road test (Mr. Smith used to give the test for 20 years). Although I was extremely nervous (just my personally when I have to perform) taking the test, I PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS! I recommend having them pick you up and drive around before your test. It helps! When I first started the driving lessons they was a little late to a few appointments. But that improved over time. It really doesn't matter which person you take the lessons from (Mr. Smith or Ms. Elaine) you will get quality instruction. (SN: Mr Smith tends to give extra time, especially if you're the last appointment of the day). Sorry for the long winded-ness :) I'm just still excited I passed! Whoo-Hoo! read more

I didn't have much experience and knowledge behind the wheel before working with C.A.S Driving School. I've met Ms Butler and worked with her for two months ( once a week lessons) to grasp all I needed to learn. She was professional, kind, and gave vivid details as you are driving. When it comes to errors she'll correct you rapidly and she is open to acknowledge your progression as the weeks go on. Scheduling an appointment online was simple as pie and the cost was reasonable for me. I highly recommend C.A.S. You'll get superior training that shows. Just got my license today through CAS and couldn't be happier! My instructor (an older man with glasses; I'm sorry I don't remember his name) was prompt in arriving. He helped me check in at the DMV office and then we went out to my car. He asked me to get in and turn on my left and then right turn signal. He then got in the car and filled out some paperwork. We went out of the parking lot and made a right, went through the traffic circle and made a left (remember that the left lane on Brentwood after the traffic circle is a turn lane! He might not specifically tell you to turn). We then took a ride through the neighborhood (I'm sorry that I don't remember the specific route). We ended up back on Brentwood (never went on Rhode Island ave). Note: he might not tell you if you pass. If you go in and he gives you a form to fill out, you're golden. He also might give you a ton of constructive criticism. Don't worry; he did that with me and I only got 5 points off. Good luck!! PM me if you have any questions!! read more

I don't ever write reviews. However, my (most likely futile) hope is this will draw attention that will then lead to a change in the way this business is being run. I would VERY strongly advise against using CAS. Especially if you are a careful and cautious driver. My girlfriend took her road test today with Mr. Smith. She has been driving for several years. She is a Brazilian citizen who had a Brazilian license, and she had to take a road test in the US to obtain her license here. My point is, she is an experienced, careful driver, who had quite an unfortunate encounter with Mr. Smith this morning. He was short, unprofessional, intimidating, and not welcoming or comforting in the slightest bit. My girlfriend was nervous as many people can be taking the test, especially in the ever-hectic DC driving environment. Throughout the test Mr. Smith rushed her SEVERAL times, made her feel completely incompetent, had earphones in his ears that were plugged into his phone (listening to music??), reached over her while she was driving and HONKED at cars in front of her, and wrongly failed her after claiming she ran a red light, when HE was the one RUSHING her to beat the light before it turned red in the first place (specifics of the red light explained in detail after review for those who are interested). I once again stress: she is a careful driver, who makes sure she is aware of her surroundings and doesn't proceed unless she knows she is safe. I know this first hand, as she has driven me countless times, on some of the busiest areas in the country here in DC. I have driven for over a decade, and I drive school buses in Fairfax County. I am comfortable in saying I have the credentials to claim she is completely competent on the road, unlike Mr. Smith, who, when he made my girlfriend get out of the car mid-test so he could drive the rest of the way home, kept the earphones in, and didn't put his seatbelt on. hmm. I don't know if he benefits by her rescheduling another appointment (another $80 to steal?), but it seemed the entire time that he was absolutely in a rush to not only get to the next appointment, but fail my girlfriend on the way. If I had known the extent of the pure lack of patience and professionalism Mr. Smith had, I would have easily picked another establishment. I hope this can be avoided for others in the future. ~~~~~~~ To those who may question if her failing the test was legitimate here is the specifics of the alleged running of the red light. She was traveling in the left hand turn lane, turn signal on, approaching the intersection. The light was green to turn left, which was where Mr. Smith told her to go. However, there was a car in front of her in the same lane, waiting to go through the intersection and turn left. My girlfriend, being the safe and cautious defensive driver that she is, stopped BEFORE entering the intersection to wait until the car in the middle of the intersection gave her enough space to travel through the intersection safely. Mr. Smith began to exclaim things in a temper such as "what are you doing! the light is green, go!". So my girlfriend, wanting to pass the test, FOLLOWED HIS INSTRUCTIONS and began to travel into the intersection. Right as she began letting off the brake, with the car in front of her still in the intersection, the light then turned red. Mr. Smith then grabbed and applied the handbrake, which was redundant as my girlfriend was already braking and the car had already come to a full stop by that point. Because again, careful and cautious drivers don't run red lights, and she had no intention of ever even coming close. He then asked her "Don't you know how many seconds the signal takes to turn red?" as if she was supposed to be counting in her head to know how much time the light had to turn red ahead of time...I'm sorry what? STEER CLEAR of this guy. Literally. read more

He's super chill and funny, but helps you to really grasp the core techniques of driving as well as the road test strategy. I called yesterday to schedule my appointment for today at 3pm. The owner took my information down and said I was scheduled. I get here today at 3pm and no one was here. I called and got the worse customer service ever. Was informed that I was NOT on the schedule for today. Not sure who the little girl is who answers the phone but she needs to be fired. She was no help, rude and disrespectful. I asked to speak to the owner or someone above her and she said she will have someone call me back. I then asked her for her name and she refused to give it to me and said she was hanging up on me. I asked for a refund and not sure if has even happened bc I have not received the confirmation email. This place probably is good but could be GREAT if they removed the the girl who answers the phone! read more

I recommend calling and asking for Ms. Butler. I chose her because I thought I'd be more comfortable with driving with another woman. When we first started everything was a mess on my part because of my fear of driving period. But she made me soooo comfortable and made the process of learning to drive on the street alot bareable. I was so nervous when I went for my road I chewed on the gum she gave to calm down to the end of the test lol. My road test examiner was like "Where is Ms.Butler at? We had an outstanding experience with the CAS team and the price was a very fair value. My son had a lot of driving experience during his Learners Permit and was well prepared for the test. The CAS staff arranged for us to meet 1-hour prior to the test time and allowed my son to take the car out on the test route with an instructor to get familiar with the car operation. read more

just passed my 3rd party road test with mr smith today! there were some glitches on the side of DMV (horrible admin) but CAS got it sorted out before my scheduled test so kudos to them. mr smith patiently walked me through the paperwork and made me feel comfortable during the test by giving clear instructions. all in all, a good experience and i'm happy to get my license! p.s: just something to take note, if you are using your own car, do check whether it meets DMV's requirements as mine didn't (because of the hand brakes being too far from the tester) so i ended up borrowing CAS's car for the test. read more

After only one week of driving I was able to pass my road test! I took 9 hours of classes over the course of a week, and used one of their cars for my test as well. I had all three instructors over the course of my time. Mr. Cheeks was my first instructor and he's got a very calm presence, who didn't necessarily get into the details of road rules but definitely got me into a driver mindset and getting a feel of how cars move at the turn of the wheel. Ms. Butler was also very calm and clear, with good instructions and tips. She took me all over DC to try out different kinds of roads, including a particularly scenic patch near Jefferson memorial. She was probably my favorite instructor just because of how easy to follow her directions were. Mr. Smith (owner of CAS) is an older fellow. He can be a bit more gruff and some of his directions were a little unclear or dicey but he's diligent about teaching you tricks on how to pass the road test specifically, as well as making sure you're checking your blind spots, mirrors etc. Be aware: if you use one of their cars for DMV testing, book an appointment one hour before your test (I don't think they mention this on their website). They give you another ~45 minutes of road test prep and it definitely helps you get comfortable in the car before the exam. I recommend CAS Driving School for beginners. Andre especially was very kind and helpful for becoming much better at making turns--previously I had frequently turned too fast and didn't aim well, but by the time I took my test I felt a lot more comfortable. I would recommend booking him for anyone who has literally never driven before and is anxious. Elaine was very nice and friendly as well. Charles is less big on the chit chat and a little tougher but certainly teaches you to be alert to everything happening around you. They pick you up and drop you off right at your house unlike other schools I booked lessons with. I was very nervous to start but I got my license and feel prepared to drive thanks to them. read more

Nobody will expect such a rude tester in America, This old enough man should be made to retire by the concerned bodies. He is not professional and skilled tester. He didn't told me properly what I did while he was testing me.He didn't follow me throughout the whole test time sometimes he tried to couch me improperly like simply shouting with out telling you what to do. I never drove before and I took around 12 classes with Ms.Butler this summer. She is absolutely the best! No doubt! She was cool, very friendly,encouraging and most importnatly she taught well! Ms. Butler told me all I needed to learn and to watch on the roads, It was when I knew that I could not just practice with friends. Ms.Butler knew what to practice and she knew how to prepare for road test and we drove on a lot of different roads in D.C.. Also Ms. Butler truly cared about how I progressed and kept encouraging me! I've been putting off getting my license for literally 5 years. Part of it has been procrastination..part of it fear. Well I finally bit the bullet and just passed my road test, and its definitely because of the instructors at CAS! Mr. Cheeks and Ms.Butler in particular are the best!! Horribly disorganized. The appointment times online are incorrect-- you can book on the half hour but they call you at the last minute to tell you this is incorrect Ames then push you up or back to the nearest hour. Telephone calls are answered by rude staff who have no clue. They were late for our appointment (no apology there, either) and tremendously unprofessional. We paid $140 for a 3rd party road test in order to avoid a DMV hassle yet this was a HUGE time waster and hassle. Total pain. Wish we had just done DMV tour with no third party. Did I mention that they tried to tell-schedule us once we were there because they screwed up booking?? Yep. Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. Poor communication. After them being late, trying to reschedule for to their error and a huge wait to get them to resolve their mistake, I was almost too frazzled to do the road test. Do not send your kids to CAS, adults, take heed that they are not the convenience they claim to be. Lots of $$$ and time wasted. read more
