Don't expect a Barry's-style bootcamp where you get to have a break every few minutes and the instructor doesn't give you much individual attention. This is a solid hour of work - running (around a track, outside, up and down stairs), jumping jacks, burpees, jumping lunges, sit-ups, free weights, planks, pull ups, etc etc etc. All muscle groups; strength, cardio, and endurance. No two workouts are the same (although you start to get used to the rhythm of them). There is a lot of partner work, and it can be a little bit competitive but also hugely supportive. As mentioned, there's an obstacle course you do at least once a class. Oh, and the instructors don't miss a thing so it's impossible to slack off. You will sweat, you will absolutely count out loud in synchronization with everyone else, you might feel like you want to throw up. However, when you're done you'll feel like you can basically do anything. Anything. If you come regularly you'll notice real changes in your body pretty quickly. I have to psych myself up a little bit before I go but it's been worth it - when I started this stuff crushed me but I'm *noticeably* stronger and fitter than I was even a couple months ago. Also don't be self conscious about your fitness level, every class has both beginners and experts. Go once and then try it again, you'll see that you've already made progress.

I've been coming here since I moved into the city in July. Love the facility and the people…read more Community is great- they host regular events, members on Saturdays will get brunch and drinks afterwards at times which speaks to the genuine camaraderie we have. It's not just a few classes I come to a week to improve my fitness and strength, but I've made some friends here which I'm excited to keep in touch with. Coming back from an injury where I tore my hip labrum from powerlifting, I've been able to see the results of my recovery and improving strength. We use MINDBODY and SugarWOD to log our workouts and check the schedule each day. The coaches are all great, are very knowledgeable, and have the perfect balance of motivating you, but not so much so that you're going to hurt yourself (Ex: Steph telling me to increase my weights after seeing my breeze through the workout). They watch your form and tell you to scale down if the form needs work. Ryan also runs a lifting program which is extremely legit complete with an excel spreadsheet where he planned out each workout to optimize your strength improvement for CrossFit in addition to adding isolation exercises that can target muscle groups that might not be as commonly used during CrossFit workout. Definitely a great addition for people who love to lift. The manager, Colin and all the front desk staff, they're very responsive on the phone and will answer all your questions for memberships. If you're going on vacation, they'll pause your membership without the hassle that comes with being a part of larger gyms (like when you thought you paused your membership but ended up getting charged several months over the summer). Customer service couldn't be better, no complaints. If you're thinking of joining up, be sure to ask about a hospital Mount Sinai discount or a student discount if you're a broke graduate student or resident. Definitely worth the investment to my health and well-being!

Saw a free class on Instagram and was curious about CrossFit. Great introductory class, amazing…read morespace and community, and shout out to Alex Miller making the class so enjoyable! The intro class was very informative but also a lot of fun. Crossfit has always been intimidating to me because of all the heavy-weight lifting. Alex was able to not only explain through his own journey with CrossFit but kept it easy to understand. I learned that CrossFit is actually an individual challenge for yourself to not only perfect your techniques but push limits you didn't know you could. That is what captivated me. The class begins with a series of warm-ups and stretches. Alex stresses the importance of form to avoid injury. He gradually transitions into your every-day exercises such as squats and then introduces a PVC stick to mimic the barbells. We did use a barbell with weights for the last set. I finally learned how to do a proper deadlift with a barbell. Alex offered plenty of direction and adjustments, which is great for someone who is starting to get into weight training. For the last 15 minutes of class, he set circuit challenges that incorporate the moves we learned. EVF shares the space with RowHouse. Rowhouse is located on the first floor and EVF gym is located on the basement level. The basement level was big enough for two classes to be happening at the same time. My only complaint would be that there are only two bathrooms for both studios (both gender neutral and have showers in them). I believe they strategically schedule the classes in order to avoid both studios end class at the same time and create chaos. All in all, I would love to come back to attend an EVF 360 class and maybe another CrossFit class with Alex!

Clearly the word about this studio hasn't gotten out yet, since there were only 6 people in my class (which is awesome because usually Zumba classes are so packed you can't dance without bumping into someone). Our instructor Natalia was super enthusiastic and energized, beaming the whole time and dancing expertly while I struggled to catch my breath and follow along. She was very fun and lively, and I highly recommend!! The only downside to this studio is the awkward columns in the middle of the dance floor. The whole time I was dancing, I felt like I was gonna crash into the column behind me. But just make sure you don't choose a spot next to a column!

My favorite so far has been with KGBody cardio dance class with Katherine Greiner. While I'm not the most well coordinated person when it comes to dancing, the class was really fun and it was a good sweat! I also took a body toning class with Sultan and that was really intense for me. I don't know if it was because it was a small class (literally 4 of us in the class) but it almost felt like I had a private trainer where I really had to keep on top of my toes. I was super sore the next day, The only setback is the schedule. I wish the KGBody classes were held more frequently. But if you're looking for a diverse series of workouts, check out YG Studios!

The instructors are world-class, fully committed to the method, and lead by example. They don't just coach; they train alongside you, pushing everyone to be their strongest selves. The passion here is evident in every detail--from how classes are structured to the energy in the room. Akin's influence is undeniable. I started taking his SoulCycle classes ~10 years ago and was immediately drawn to his intensity, music, high standards, and focus on fundamentals. I've been to over 200 of his classes, mostly cycling, and his philosophy is evident: strong foundations prevent injury and lead to real progress. AARMY has evolved far beyond just him, though--every coach is exceptional, and the team is the real deal. The cycling and bootcamp classes are designed by athletes, for athletes. Bootcamp blends weight training (like Barry's) with calisthenics and yoga for flexibility, creating a well-rounded approach. The workouts are intense, and the community is dedicated--some might find it intimidating at first, but don't be afraid. Everyone is focused on their own progress, and the atmosphere is competitive in the best way. Beyond the workouts, the studio is top-notch--cutting-edge spin bikes, a sleek but functional space, and high-end amenities in the changing rooms and bathrooms. I also love that they have foam rollers available. The multi-gear bikes were the first I'd seen, and the attention to detail here is next level. The music is world-class and always evolving. AARMY's swag is everywhere, and you'll quickly notice the loyalty--people live in their AARMY gear. The clientele mixes downtown creatives and serious athletes, creating a uniquely cosmopolitan but authentically athletic vibe. AARMY is a microcosm of what appeals to me about NYC: open-minded, hard-charging people who love the cutting edge and give 150% to everything they do. The passion here is evident; this place is a beacon of the champion's mindset. AARMY isn't just another fitness studio--it's a family business built on love, talent, and loyalty. It can be tough to get into classes, but if you're serious about training and in NYC, this is as good as it gets. Will remain a loyal client forever. Keep innovating and leading by example!

I decided to try EVF for the first time with their EVF class, which was open to everyone. The class was disorganized and overcrowded. The instructor speed-talked when showing us how to do an exercise with good form, and in a room of 30+ people, not everyone could even hear her because the music was too loud. And as people were working out, there were way too many people for her to actually monitor to make sure they are doing everything safely. The complete lack of focus on injury prevention and safety is a deal breaker for me. Instead, their focus is on making you sweat hard with weights to make you think you had a good workout - when in reality, you may not be activating the right muscles and are on your way to worsening your muscle imbalances and injuring yourself. Oh, and here are some extra fun details: -No one is EVER at the front desk. I had to pass by this gym 3 times on 3 different days because I wanted to talk to a human being to ask some questions before I signed up for my first class. They just have a desk there and equipment but no signs of life. Ever. -No one is doing audio checks before a class, so good luck hearing what your instructor is saying -The back office is the only area that seems to be staffed. Their focus is just sales, not about anything else. -The instructors are not knowledgeable in muscle anatomy and will have you doing reps based on time rather than on evenly working both sides of your body - another recipe for injury! This entire gym screams of red flags. Stay away.
