Utterly disgusting experience to summarise what I have been through this past 16 months. After my experience at FitSpace I feel compelled to write this review and make sure that you don't make the same mistake I did in falling for the illusion of a cheap gym with unlimited benefits. If your short for time and cant read this whole review do not join FitSpace especially the one in Mitcham. The price tag is not worth 18 months of torture, and the extra pounds you'd spend at FitnessFirst or VirginActive are better spent. Though I wasn't expecting much for £12 and its my fault for walking into this trap, I did at least expect cleanliness and hygiene to be placed a thorough emphasis on considering the frequency at which members use the gym. However this unwritten expectation was thrown out the window within my first few visits as I go deeper into explaining the inconveniences I had to endure at this gym.
The equipment and overall facilities in the gym are poor, outdated and have sweat build up, not only this but also the lack of space obligates you to check whether anything around you could cause you harm. I'm not even sure that there is a proper air conditioning system. A large proportion of the machinery is either broken or placed within a dangerously close proximity to other equipment such as the rowing machines and at least 20% of the treadmills are broken and don't have an incline function. Just to add as well, the pulse detection function doesnt work because of the sweat build up. The weights room is also heavily concentrated and often all the machinery is in use at all hours of the day including early morning, there is no ventilation and again a lot of the equipment look faulty or dangerous. As for the changing rooms, one visit and the disregard of hygiene and cleanliness is evident. There is heavy dust build up in the lockers and around the benches (most probably dead skin), 35% of the lockers are either broken or flimsy, and most importantly the showers are utterly revolting. As for the staff, they are neither helpful or approachable as I saw when I asked for details of opening times during the Easter Holidays.
Put simply, do yourself a favour and open a tab for a more established fitness centre. The price tag for FitSpace is too good to be true and having a trial day will be invaluable in proving this point. Memberships are subject to an 18 month contract and early termination is not possible, think about this before you sign up to this place. I myself have 2 months left and will without hesitation take myself to VirginActive which despite the premium price is worth a million times what FitSpace is. read more
