Not a very good Gym the staff and management are generally quite rude and patronizing to customers. Plenty of better places to use.

Your comfort goes down exponentially when it's too crowded. And for a workout environment, which is generally uncomfortable and can make people self conscious, it gets awkward! (And I am a frequent gymmer, 5-7x per week at my home gym or other hotel gyms)

Wow... This is easily one of the worst gyms, if not the…read moreworst, I have ever been to. In no particular order... There's almost no pressure in the showers, so good luck having a shower after your workout. Although the water isn't hot anyway, so you might not want to. The entire gym is cool, so as soon as you build up a sweat, you're going to get clammy and cold, great when you're trying to work-out. They do have plenty of cardio equipment, just a shame it isn't particularly good. For example, the cross trainers have such a small stride, that you might as well be using the stepping machines. It's also packed in so tightly, that it can be difficult to use equipment next to someone else as your arms are likely to bump into each other. The weight machines are in poor condition, and aren't necessarily even on both sides. Really great stuff. For me personally, the free weights area is the biggest let down, as it is kinda big, but really lacking in equipment. You can tell that free weights are an afterthought here, and not something they care about. Despite having plenty of space, they only have one flat bench, despite it being, for better or worse, probably the number one piece of equipment in use. Between this, and what I take to be either steroid users or just a-holes, this has led to almost-fights and threats of violence. Really great atmosphere... Oh, and no one bothers putting their weights back, so you'll be spending half your work-out trying to find what you are going to use. Which brings me to the staff, who didn't seem to care about their 'roid raging customers threatening other customers. Really well done. So definitely only 1 star, and to be honest, they don't even deserve that much.

Initially I was less committed, but as I began to understand my own potential and got better at not comparing myself to others in class (mainly worrying I would never be as flexible or as strong as my fellow classmates!) I started to attend more regularly. Yoga with Hana and Aya is dynamic, challenging and fun. I go along to 2-3 classes a week now and love everything about them; the friendly and welcoming attitude, the wonderful opportunity to practice outside in beautiful Finsbury Park and the excellent teaching. The indoor class at the Redmond Centre on a Monday night is close to home making it brilliantly convenient as an after work exercise option with not far to go after the class has finished! With its clean, large, spacious studio overlooking the West Reservoir at Woodberry Grove, the centre offers a great, enlightening space for practice. Hana clearly and intelligently provides superb direction ensuring you can appreciate the true purpose of each asana. Using the full time of the class (an hour in the park, an hour & 30mins in the centre), she encourages us to be curious and explore postures, not to adopt a one size fits all approach, making for a safer practice and teaching for all attending. The classes are intense, the work goes deep and the benefits stay with you throughout the week. I've met many new friends through Hana's classes, workshops and retreats and regularly recommend her to friends, neighbours and colleagues.

I love the Vinyasa Flow style classes that keep me really fit as they are really challenging, building on my core muscles and strength. I am a keen runner and rock climber and I find that Mindful Movements Vinyasa Flow keeps me in tiptop condition. The classes outdoors are an ideal way to get some fresh air and nature into my weekends and I also love the ambience of the candle evening classes at Islington Arts Factory and the Redmond Community Centre. Definitely the best Yoga you can find local to N4 for really reasonable prices!

If they bother to get back to you about any concern you might have about the facilities they will be completely inflexible and unhelpful. They know if you leave they have plenty of other users with little to no other choices. The recent refurbishment has been badly managed with a much smaller choice of equipment spread over 4 floors in 6 different spaces! Even at off-peak times there are queues for equipment because much of it does not even work. Complaints fall on deaf ears and management will not even entertain reducing fees due to the reduction in services. Their only suggestion they can offer is to cancel! They really do not care about the community or their members despite the headlines on their website.

You don't worry about verrucas and kids weeing in the pool here, unlike at North London's other, older and therefore grimier public pools. I like to come early on a Saturday morning (provided I haven't been out too heavily the night before) as it's usually pretty quiet and you can get a good pace in the fast lane without hitting too many people's heels. The changing rooms are also big and clean although my favourite thing about the pool is that it's near enough to my house that I can stroll home for a post-swim shower.

*Ouch Ouch Ouch* My muscles are really not happy that I…read morefound and signed up for this new gym...and I have a feeling they will be protesting again in the near future. I wasn't sure about this place, it is half the price of my previous gym (just £19.99 a month), so I assumed it would be old and a little skanky. Therefore I was surprised to find a bright, sparkly, non-smelly, new gym with three floors full of machines, studios, stretching rooms etc. It is much nicer than the underground, over-priced gyms that I have seen in central London. They do not have many members of staff (to keep the price down) BUT if you're happy coming to classes/ using the machines by yourself, then this is a good option. How it works: - You sign up on a touch screen, and have to give up your bank details to set up a direct debit - The machine then gives you a pin number - To get in (or out) of the gym, you type in your pin, which opens the doors of weird capsule things. There didn't seem to be anyone guarding the door, so the capsule doors stop non-members from wandering inside. - They have changing rooms and showers but you need to bring a padlock if you want to use a locker (they sell them too) - If you want to sign up to a class, you can do so on the screens at reception, or online at home (you use your pin number and e-mail addy to sign in) I think I looked at little confused when I was trying to sign up, so one of the personal trainers kindly showed me around and gave me a free one hour personal training session. Now, I have never had a personal training session before, so it was a really good (if knackering) experience. If I get a pay rise, I would be really tempted to try this...although my poor muscles would hate me!! If you're richer than me, and want a personal trainer, ask for Dastan; he is a complete sweetie.

I am just a few weeks into my membership and I am super thrilled with my experience so far…read more As a student, I was looking for a cheap gym, and for £23 a month (and no need for a contract - you can drop out of the membership anytime), I found more value than I have ever hoped here. The gym is lovely and clean and spans across two floors full of equipment, and a third floor reserved for classes. Your membership entitles you to attending an unlimited amount of classes (bookable online up to 8 days in advance), and so far I am finding the choice plentiful (if you are looking for an early morning or right after work class, you might have to book a couple of days in advance, but otherwise I never had a problem getting in). I especially love the pump and free weights classes - a great way for a lady to be introduced into the world of free weights and proper form even if one can't afford a personal trainer. If you need some extra care, as a new member you can also book one complimentary training session. I think you really get a bang for your buck here. As for the equipment in the gym, it's quite standard: there are a decent sized machines room and cardio equipment room on the first floor, a big free weights area (and a smaller one with lighter weights where one can work out calmly even as a beginner without getting intimidated by the very experienced heavy lifters, if that's what you need). The ground floor has further cardio machines such as steppers, treatmills etc, and a separate room with top of the range bikes and video equipment for interactive spinning classes. The showers have so far always been nice and clean. And although there are not many members of staff present, the fact that you can get in here only with a personal code makes this gym feel very safe even later at night. There are not always many members of staff available, but all equipment has a QR code which you can scan for instructions, and there are booklets with suggested workouts and reps depending on your goals. If you are new, you also have a complimentary induction session where you can ask all the questions you need. So if you are a beginner, like me, I promise that you won't feel lost. There is no pool or sauna, but I find that for the price that I am paying, the gym offers great value without any additional fuss. I encourage you to give this place a go (you can either buy a day pass, or just ask for a free tour).
