I always find those gym fanatic types quite a put-off when I'm working out! I don't want to be staring at the hardcore gym bods whilst I'm flabbing and wheezing on the machines, luckily there is hardly a pretentious gym goer in sight. I always see a host of regulars and friendly faces which I like. The gym gets quite busy it seems on a Monday evening (perhaps the post weekend guilt complex sets in?) but there always seems to be just enough room for you to get on a machine or do some weights. I love my local gym and would encourage anyone to join this one, especially as it's so affordable too!

They know if you leave they have plenty of other users with little to no other choices. The recent refurbishment has been badly managed with a much smaller choice of equipment spread over 4 floors in 6 different spaces! Even at off-peak times there are queues for equipment because much of it does not even work. Complaints fall on deaf ears and management will not even entertain reducing fees due to the reduction in services. Their only suggestion they can offer is to cancel! They really do not care about the community or their members despite the headlines on their website.

I like to come early on a Saturday morning (provided I haven't been out too heavily the night before) as it's usually pretty quiet and you can get a good pace in the fast lane without hitting too many people's heels. The changing rooms are also big and clean although my favourite thing about the pool is that it's near enough to my house that I can stroll home for a post-swim shower.

All available for a fraction of the price of one of the posh chains. Another cool thing is that they offer discounts to hospital staff. If all you need is a sports facility, the Rainbow Centre will meet your needs

It was packed (maybe it was us going at the wrong time!) but the staff we good pleasant and helpful when needed. One criticism i do have is the lockers dont have a locks on them so you have to bring your own lock or buy one. This is slightly annoying! The changing rooms are clean and the booths are perfect for changing / getting babies sorted out! The price was a not too bad, for all three of us (2 adults 1 infant) it came to around £12 which i shouldn't complain at all in all not too bad

I mostly used the swimming pool and hire the badminton courts a few times. To hire the courts, it's quite cheap, it might of changed now but it was around a tenner between two people for 2 hours. Not bad... It's usually quite quiet on a Sunday afternoon. The swimming pool is a really good size. However, the pool gets really busy with Mums and babies in the afternoon so I'd suggest going in the morning or the evening. I liked this place. It's got a nice family feel but isn't always hugely busy which is a nice change as most London gyms can be pretty heaving more of the time. A nice, cheap alternative to the bigger, corporate gyms...

Lockers are unlocked by a token you get from the front desk, and this frees a key-wristband that you can keep with you while you sweat off some of that Sunday roast. Clean locker room, massive facilities for football, gymnastics, badminton, etc, I'll definitely be back! Close to buses and the Tube as well.
