Where to begin... FIT is far more than a gym: it's a community of friendly, smart, knowledgeable people who genuinely care about your personal health and physical fitness and are constantly working to make themselves better stewards thereof. I've been working out at FIT three times a week for the last eight years, and I still look forward to it every day. The workouts are challenging and diverse, and the coaching extends into nutrition, sleep patterns, and any other aspect of fitness. I work out with Rob (Tuesdays) and Scott (Mondays and Thursdays). Rob's expertise is olympic lifting, and Scott's is more nutrition and overall fitness. The complementarity between the two sets of expertise enriches the overall experience. With Rob, I know I'm always going to lift something heavy (squats, cleans, snatches, etc). With Scott, I know I'm always going to crush myself in a crossfit-style workout. Also, both of them are fantastic guys whose company I enjoy as much as the workouts. I've also worked out with Jimmy, Sean, Danielle, Rick, Matt, and many others over the years (Rob & Scott have always been there, but sometimes they're away, or I need to reschedule), and as far as I can tell there are no weak links. All of the coaches are awesome, and that extends to the clients too. I've never met an F.I.T. client who wasn't friendly and happy to be there. I think this is a tribute to Thom & Tracey and the culture they've established. Overall, can't say enough good things about F.I.T. read more

I'm at a point in my life (over 50) where I want to push myself and try approaches to challenges I haven't tried before, both mentally and physically. Well...surprise...it's all connected! I hadn't set foot in a gym for 30 years and I was terrified. I truly hadn't a clue of where and how to begin the process of getting to know my body again. Thank goodness for FiT! From the moment of my initial interview until last week's heart pounding, sweat-inducing, muscle-building, mood-elevating workout, I am being transformed and I am waking up to my life again. I know that sounds over-the-top, but it's true for me! I've been working with Laura for 5+ months and not only do I have more endurance and strength (and less body-fat), but my mood and vigor for the rest of my life has increased dramatically. Thom, Laura and the rest of the FiT staff are good souls. They are friendly, knowledgable, motivating and authentic people. They have guided my transformation with a patient and deft hand that pushes me - but doesn't break me and I mean this both physically and psychologically. In the spirit of the movie Dances with Wolves, I have given myself the name "He Who is Always Sore", but it's a feeling that reminds me, every single day, that I am alive and I am creating a better life for myself. Thanks FiT! You have truly set me on a new path. I am glad you are walking beside me. read more

My wife and I have been training at FIT for several years now and we both think the place is excellent. I've worked out with almost all the trainers at FIT at one time or another and all my experiences have been great. They are a very competent group. I train there several times a week - both personal training and CrossFit group class.... and I'm now the healthiest and strongest I've ever been. Cholesterol level is down (w/o meds). Blood pressure is down. Resting heart rate is down. I sleep better. I have more energy. I've lost weight and put on lean muscle. I'm hooked on the place and the people and their program. This is one of the few gyms in the area that I know of that has oly bars and bumper-plates, and can competently teach you how to use them to gain functional and core strength and conditioning. But it is not a body builder type gym. At FIT I've seen all types: grey hair ladies doing back squats, Internet CEO's doing box-jumps, firemen doing pull-ups, special needs kids working on skill and coordination, and elite high school and college athletes doing strength training. It's a great community with a diverse set of clients, with both long term clients and folks in doing short term rehab work. The receptionist just ran the SF Marathon, and the owner is training for a half Ironman. These folks are committed to fitness. read more

FIT has made a very big difference in my life, which is why I am writing my first review ever. My wife helped convince me to try a personal trainer after a decade of irregular workouts and recurring neck, shoulder, and back injuries that convinced me in my mid-40's that I had to put a limit on activities I used to enjoy doing. I walked into FIT thinking that I would go once or twice and then try something different. I met Thom Downing and explained to him that I used to be an athlete, but now I just hoped to be more physically fit and active with my kids without pain. I liked Thom's incremental approach (walk before we run, literally), respected his vast body of knowledge (mind, body and spirit), and enjoyed his Alaskan down-to-earth wysiwyg style and sense of humor. 2.5 years later, I feel great! I'm more active than I thought possible when I started, I have more energy on a day-to-day basis, and I enjoy going to each session. Though I am typically with Thom, I have also worked out with other trainers and have always been very pleased. From Serena at the front desk, to the trainers, to Tracey in the back office, you get a family run business vibe at FIT - one that cares deeply about its employees, customers, standards and community. FIT is a tremendous resource, and I feel lucky to have them in our area! read more

I set out to find the very best personal training facility in which to train and build my career as a personal trainer. I found FIT after researching the top gyms in Chicago, LA, Miami, and NY. I reached out to FIT and decided after speaking with Thom and Tracey Downing, I had to move from Ohio to the bay area and work at FIT. When I arrived I was welcomed by all the staff and my clientele was a great group. I learned so much as a trainer at FIT. It made a profound impact on my career and life. Prior to FIT I was incorporating a lot of bodybuilding principles into my training. FIT taught me about the benefits of Total Fitness and a rational, healthy way of eating to support health. Thom and Tracey provided more than just a place to work. They welcomed me into their family and have been supportive of my career aspirations. Hands down, I can say, FIT is a unique place. They teach the Truth! They will work you hard, but in a very scientific and calculated manner. FIT is an approachable, fun place to work and work out. Take a look for yourself. read more

I began at FIT in November 2013. I had met with Thom and had an extensive phone conversation with Tracey to determine what I was looking for in a Personal Trainer. I had never worked with weights nor at a gym with a Personal Trainer.Tracey listened carefully to what I wanted to gain from this experience. She matched me with Scott, my Personal Trainer, who worked extremely well with me. However, when he left for a different gym in Menlo Park, I transferred to another Personal Trainer. I have now had the experience of working with three other FIT Personal Trainers. All of them have been extremely competent. However, it is often a question of the personality of the Personal Trainer that makes the situation completely ideal. This is the case with my current Personal Trainer, who thoroughly comprehends what I want to achieve in my sessions with her. All in all, for someone who had never worked out before, with the exception of Pilates with an instructor, this has been a very wonderful and positive experience in an extremely friendly place. read more

Jeff Samson was my trainer and I would highly recommend working with him!!! I am as anti training as one can be and he managed to address all the issues I had about fitness with understanding and clarity. I have really enjoyed how he created each session according to what I wanted to accomplish and what I could do. He also has great expertise in finding the right balance between pushing me enough so I feel good and also being attentive to the sign of discouragement or fatigue. I experienced Jeff as being finely attuned to what I liked, wanted and could do. I very much appreciated the clarity of his explanation of exercises, which muscles to engage and how. I learned how to be in my own body. Besides strength, I also gained awareness of how I was moving and how I could move to build core muscles all day long whatever activity I am doing!! Very enjoyable mindfulness experience in the body!! I guess that is how Jeff practices his life and his job!!! If I was not leaving the area I would definitely continue training with Jeff!! Thank you!! read more

Great folks help you reach your own goals. Experts help in both exercise and nutrition whether your goal is high performance in a specific sport, weight loss, or just general toning. They also have massage and physical therapy facilities. I have had massage from each of the excellent (though different style) approaches. They also have an excellent kids program called Jump Camp. The host specific Olympic weight lifting training called Barbell Club. They host meets and have sent several high school age lifters to national and international competitions as well as several "adult" lifters to several national meets. I see athletes of all ages from golfers, to Volleyball, to Basketball, baseball and bicycling training for specific goals. There are also Moms and Dads just getting into shape. It is a great place to work out with great trainers who actually study the literature and know what to do to improve performance, separate real techniques from the fad techniques, and get real results read more

I've never done any review of anything or anyplace. In fact I avoid the internet, but I have to praise Thom Downing and FIT . Over the last three years I got overweight, lazy, depressed and stressed. Being sick of looking at the old man in the mirror. I asked the smartest fitness professional I know for help. Thom Downing designed a program that targeted more than my physical fitness. He also helped me change my diet. Eating smarter and eating at the proper times. He helped me lower my stress levels and increase my sleep. I never knew how important sleep was. Since May 1 thanks to Thom and FIT, I've lost 22.5lbs. Thom's comprehensive fitness program is challenging and fun. But what separates Thom from everybody else is he not only coaches you to physical health but also connects with emotional and mental health. Best Coach I've ever had. read more

I love going to bootcamp at CrossFIT Los Altos. I now have attended a dozen sessions by Jimmy Noriega. He is an excellent trainer. He has a calm demeanor, keeps the sessions focused and challenging for every one. I really feel that he continuously pushes the participants to go to their next level. The sessions are different everyday, so we get a chance to work out the various muscle groups. He keeps me informed about what muscle groups are being used and gives a heads up as to what muscles should feel sore the next day. Overall, I feel like my workout sessions are fun and intense and I feel great at the end of the training session. Additionally, folks in my bootcamp group are awesome and friendly. They motivate me to push myself. If you are looking for a bootcamp session or personal training, I highly recommend Jimmy Noriega. read more

I have been coming to FIT for personal training (never done CrossFIT) for about 7 years. My trainer Greg has been amazing--he has kept me motivated and engaged through the years (and pregnancy recoveries), and I'm stronger and in better shape than I have been since my teens. I have worked out with a few of the other trainers when Greg has been away, and I have no complaints. The gym itself is clean (and I care about such things) and safe, and is genuinely a pleasant place to be--people are friendly, the space is bright, and people are focused on their workouts. I would recommend FIT, without hesitation, to people new to working out, as well as those more experienced weight lifters. There for sure will be a trainer who can accommodate your fitness level, your personal goals, and get you there injury-free. read more

After a lifetime of joining gyms and never going, I am at 9 years and counting. They've never given up on me and there is something that just keeps me coming back. The trainers are fantastic and have the flexibility to accommodate your latest uncooperative body part while still encouraging you to reach for the best you can do. If PE had been even close to this in school, I might have actually liked it. It is a very comfortable and supportive atmosphere and I always leave in a better place than I arrived. Depending on my time and goals, I've done 1:1 training, small group training and Boot Camp - they are all great. I'm currently wildly enthusiastic about the Boot Camp with Jimmy -- great variety and a wonderful atmosphere. I started out at only 1x/week and most weeks now make it 3x/wk. read more

My interaction with F.I.T was quite opposite. Since I had heard so many great things about it I walked in last Saturday to set up an appointment. The front desk took down my name, number and email. I got a call the following Monday and decided on the phone that we would set up a schedule over email. Having not heard from them till Friday, I sent them an email which is yet unanswered. Thankfully after this initial glitch things have moved smoothly. I got a call from FIT with profuse apologies and they promptly scheduled me. They offered to comp the first session too. Just back fromy my first session and definitely quite enjoyed it. read more

I've been going to this gym for about seven years now, and without it I wouldn't have gotten in the shape I am today. I've seen many trainers come and go and all of them were not only passionate, but had a deep understanding of physical fitness and health. Most recently I've been working with a fellow named Dion and his spirit, enthusiasm, and knowledge has been something I've come to expect from FIT. What really is so amazing about this place is that all of the trainers have their own specialties and mentality and the gym can morph to suit your needs, not just as a person, but to achieve life's ever changing goals. read more

FIT is an exceptional gym, staffed by dedicated, knowledgeable trainers. FIT offers a wholistic approach to fitness, addressing not only its member physical conditioning, but also providing guidance and support on other key components integral to their health. For example, this past year I received a one-year membership to a guided meditation program from FIT that is already paying considerable dividends not only in my physical fitness, but also in my professional and personal life. If you desire a thoughtful, caring and effective approach to physical fitness, I cannot recommend FIT highly enough. read more

No matter what your fitness goals or needs are, FIT has a trainer or a program for you. Whe you look around the gym, you see people of all ages, all sizes, and all skill levels. Whether you came to lose lots of weight (me!), get past an injury, train for a triathlon, pack on a ton of muscle, get better at your high school sport, or just work out with your friends, the whole FIT team rallies behind you to support your goal. I can't say enough good things about FIT and the people who work there...I guarntee every hot mom you see in the Los Altos area trains at FIT! :) read more

Having tried for 10 years on and off to workout at gyms and office gym (which was free), it speaks volumes to say that not only I and my spouse have been going here regularly for almost two years but think the expensive personal training was worth it. We are now motivated enough to wake up at 5:00am on a weekday morning to workout in the group class (which is significantly cheaper than personal training but with obviously much less personal focus). The staff are excellent and friendly and now even my little kid wants to do crossfit. read more

Excellent training and trainers. The facility is beautiful. Finally a place where you are excited to go to work out. My trainer Dion is really great. He is fun, motivating and very knowledgeable not only about working out and getting the best of it but how to get your past injuries fixed by building a strong base . He knows when to push you when you can and slow you down when you need it. I highly recommend Dion. I finally found a place and a trainer I'm looking forward to go to every time. Best personal training place! read more

FIT is the gym of my dreams: it has great energy, a tight-knit group of super-knowledgeable and motivating trainers, a community of friendly and engaged clientele, and everything you expect from a fitness facility: clean equipment, fresh towels, comfortable locker rooms. They offer amazing on-site sports massage and physical therapy too, which I can't recommend enough (and I do recommend often!) Seriously, go visit the place and just talk with the staff. If you're like me, you'll quickly know if it's a place for you :) read more
