Vinyassa with Tessa was slow paced enough so that even a beginner could follow along yet I left knowing I had a great workout/stretch. The studio is clean and spacious and all the props you may need are readily available. Signing up online for a drop in class was very easy and reasonably priced.

The energy in the studio was fantastic. It's one large room with lovely wood floors that they've separated into a front desk and lounge area and the practice space in the back. Personal belongings can be stored up front in a cubby sort of setup while class is in progress. I assume they lock the door during class, and like that the area where our things are kept are in view from the space we flow in. The practice space was kept at a low level of light, which I enjoy. It was not a hot yoga class, I don't believe those are offered at this studio. Another yogi asked for the AC to be turned up before practice started which the studio obliged; they seem very accommodating. There's a big shelf full of blocks, bolsters, and whatever other sort of props you could hope to have available. The practice area is spacious and folks are respectful and give each other plenty of space even in a busy class like the one I joined. The class was taught by a yogi named Julia, it was a vinyasa practice which I quite enjoyed. She was kind enough to ask before practice began if anyone had any special requests. There weren't any, so she lead us through a well-balanced practice (I would've loved more back bending/heart openers, but I know that's not everyone's thing). I'm more advanced in my practice and she offered loads of modifications that suited my preferences. Her voice was soothing and I liked the, "I am present. I am complete," affirmation that she paired along with the in breaths and out breaths. A cute, chill little studio in a nice spot. It seems like they have a nice variety of class offerings based on their online schedule. I'll definitely be going back!

I really wanted to follow the Tao, but the book was maddeningly silent on how, practically, you do that. So over the years I would vacillate between thinking the Tao was self-evident and thinking the Tao must be for someone else's planet. But at Toward Harmony, they (my teacher is Dan Winter) teach you how to begin to practice the Tao, directly and smartly. There is no cultural dross you have to sort through, no ceremonial surplusage to endure and no reverence for or attachment to any particular concepts. I study qigong with Dan, which is a physical exercise that doubles as a meditation; so it is a perfect antidote to my stressful, sedentary career. It is more mindful than Hatha yoga and more physical than Buddhist meditation (as I've experienced them taught in New England). Just right.

I have been studying Tai-Chi-Chuan here for approximately 4 years and started here on the…read morerecommendation of my doctor. My teacher, Bob Klein, is incredibly knowledgeable, but humble, patient and kind. He doesn't just teach what the movements of the form look like, he teaches all the inner mechanics which are what make it so beneficial to one's health and the way one feels. It also is what makes it so much fun and interesting. I always say I don't know which it helps more, my body or my brain! He teaches Qigong along with the Tai Chi, in preparation for the movements. He not only teaches you the health benefits of Tai Chi but the martial art aspects of it as well. There are classes for self defence and push hands as well. I noticed after studying with Bob for a while that I was able to apply the movements that I learned in class to the ways I moved in daily life (which has put a lot less strain on my joints) and the philosophies we learned in class that are part of Tai Chi Chuan have helped to reduce stress and to put things in better perspective. When I leave class, my mind is cleared, breathing is slower and if I came in stressed, I leave calm. I feel gratitude for each class. What is so nice about these classes is that one is never made to feel silly or embarrassed no matter how uncoordinated you feel (and believe me, I was very uncoordinated when I first started). He just wants you to learn it so you can get the same benefits and joy that he does from it and he will work with you in whatever way you need to achieve that. Bob encourages questions and never treats any question as silly. He is always happy to patiently go over whatever you need him to. I always come out of class learning something new. If I were to say I really loved going to class or that it has helped me enormously, it would be an understatement. It has literally changed my life. I had a serious accident approximately 3 1/2 years ago seriously injuring my back, ribs and elbow which required surgery. I felt like I could never be the same active person that I had always been. This was just a few months after I had started studying with Bob. I was not able to return to class for 6 months, but fortunately I had his DVD's to work with. As soon as I got out of the hospital I practiced my qigong and form using his DVD's . I was told I would need back surgery (but didn't have it) and that I could never open my arm fully again. I returned to class as soon as I was able to and could drive. I take several classes a week with Bob and practice at home. With class and practice, I cannot believe how good my back feels and I shocked my surgeon by being able to fully open my arm. I can be myself again. In the process I have also come a long way in my understanding of Tai chi. I think this school is unique in the amount of attention each person receives in class, the depth of Bob's knowledge, and the amount of attention to details he provides. It makes all the difference in the way one does the form. Most importantly, Bob and his wife, Jean, who is also certified to teach, and quite often gives us the benefit of her presence in the class as well, create a wonderful environment to learn in, one in which no one ever feels judged. Thank you Bob!
