They do good things for the kids however some of the coaches there have no buisness being around kids as one beat up a teenager (real role model google his name) and another... well..... Made national headlines. And working there? Sucked!! The personal trainer left over from the old ownership used to have our Co-workers text her and call her everytime this certain guy came in with friends.. The kicker?? She's married! Was like working in a junior high and she always tagged the girls name in the screen as very rude names. Also made fun of a lot of the members which is not cool for a personal trainer. This is all my opinion based on what I experienced working there.

Since the recent equipment upgrade, there are only 2 basic upright bikes, and one has been out of service 2 times since installation. I am age 70, in recovery mode indefiniately, with nerve issues affecting my lower body (neuropothy), and hip trouble. Non-weight-bearing excercise is what I (and others) need. We simply want to remain mobile by hopping on the bike for 30 minutes or so and keep blood flowing to our lower extremities. Treadmill is not the answer and recumbent bikes are not comfortable for the hip. The Norwich location needs more upright bikes. Most staff that I have spoken to agree.

Whether you walk in on a Tuesday night after work or Sunday morning before your day starts you are at Inner Strength Gym because of what it does to you. MMA gyms all over have cool names but they are names that don't mean anything. They are names that are simply meant to pull you in the door and hopefully will look cool on a shirt. Inner strength is something everyone has and it is something people need help remembering they have sometimes. Inner Strength Gym does this, it makes you a stronger person. I'm sure any gym you go to and jump on the treadmill and pump some iron will give you some strength but it cannot give you what you get at a place like Inner Strength Gym. Those walls test you. The mats and bags test you. Your sparring partners tests you and you will have to test yourself. This is not for the weak of heart. What we do makes you push yourself harder and farther than people would do by themselves. You work to find your limits and then you work past them. Anyone who thinks they are too "fill in your story" I can tell you you're wrong. Inner Strength is home to middle school, high school and college students as wells as fighters and trainers from all over New England. There are 30, 40 and 50 year olds who walk through those doors every week and walk out happier people and better people than when they walked in. As a practitioner and trainer for MMA fighters and a teacher of different styles of martial arts, Greg Swanson runs on of the best gyms in New England and has one of the best groups who train at his gym. I've been a member of ImpaCT for a good 2 years now. It's been a life changer. I never worked out a day in my life before joining. I do live an active life, as my job is physically taxing, but I never had the interest in going to the gym. Then I decided I wanted to try something new and different in life, and by chance, found ImpaCT. Now I'm addicted, in so many ways, and I'm so grateful for everything I have gained & learned. Not only has it been highly beneficial for my overall wellbeing, but I've also learned so many things about myself. One of the most important things, for me, has been the fact that I've learned I can do a lot more than I ever though I was capable of in so many ways. Especially mentally and physically. And this is all thanks to the coaches AND other members! ImpaCT is such a welcoming, judgement free environment. Never, ever have I felt out of place. If you want a good workout, you're going to get it here. You will have all the support and education you could need to get things done safely, and also have a blast while doing so. The coaches are truly great, making sure everyone is able to do the workouts at their own level but also so motivational in that you want to push more and succeed in everything you do. The gym itself is amazing and offers so much, but it is the environment and the athletes at ImpaCT are what truly make the gym as amazing as it is. I really think this is a one-of-a-kind gym. I've been going here for over a year. I have never stuck with any sort of fitness regime for anywhere near that length of time. The coaches and fellow members are amazing. The workouts are intense, yet I love coming back for more. I come several days per week. No matter the size of the class, I always get personal coaching. They are amazing with their abilities to modify movements to accommodate individual abilities. The gym members are of all ages and all different athletic abilities. I'm family here. read more

Still glad to be attending this fitness/nutrition gym. The new location in Norwich offers more space and added gym family members. Great coaches to help guide you through classes to encourage and support each member. If you need to scale a movement, the coaches help do that to ensure you do not injure yourself. This is one of the best decisions I have ever made, just wish I had started about 15 years ago. But no matter the age, it is never too late to get started. read more

This is my happy place. I can't even describe the sense of community this gym gives, everyone is always encouraging motivating and helpful. I would never go to any other CrossFit gym around. You have a good-sized facility, trainers who know your name and want you to come in for training, and the workouts are challenging to your fitness level. They last 30 minutes. Quick does not equal easy. Au contraire, mon frere! You're moving the whole time, under the watchful eye of your trainer, and by the end, you will find yourself sweaty, tired, and thankful you survived. Think you can't "handle" boot camp classes? Neither did I until I went and saw that they customize your workout to your level and work around injuries. There are all ages, sizes and fitness levels that go. Feel self-conscious? Surprisingly, I've never felt any judgement. You're too busy trying to get through each station of the workout to notice anything other than what you're doing. I've been going to MELT for 4 months now. I go about 3-5x a week and I have not done the same exercise twice. They have three locations: Glastonbury, South Windsor, and Harwinton. And the other thing about MELT classes: they know you, and they know what you're capable of, and thus they know when you're slacking! The trainer will come over, give you a little smile, hand you a heavier weight, modify the form of an exercise, or make you drop deeper into a squat or lunge while asking you perkily: "Do you feel that now?" Oh, and if you're a woman thinking this isn't for you: think again. Just as many women attend then men. There are equal number of male and female trainers, too. This is not those boot camps where the trainers yell at you. They definitely push you. They motivate you. And they congratulate you. You will discover that your body, and you, are much stronger than you ever thought you could be. Your win is their win.

In my hunt for a new fitness class place, m.e.l.t. kept popping up- recommendations here on Yelp, Groupons, friends, etc. I decided to purchase the Groupon- $19 for 3 weeks unlimited. Purchasers of such Groupon must attend an orientation, which was a nice way to get everyone acclimated. I will admit, I was skeptical about the workouts only being 30-35 minutes. My skepticism has subsided, and I am a believer. I felt more accomplished in those 30 minutes than I have in any hour long class, let alone my individual workouts at the gym. The instructors are great, motivating, but not in your face. They give different levels of difficulty, and alternate options for exercises if you're not comfortable. Classes may be signed up for online, which is convenient. There are plenty of class time selections, and what's really great is that the classes are the same for the full day (ex: all Tuesday classes are meltabolic, Wednesday is melted upper body) so you don't have to pick and choose certain times on different days. I still have 2 1/2 weeks left of my Groupon, and then I will consider purchasing a membership (seems fairly pricy though!).

Members wipe down the apparatus after use which I appreciate. If you choose to workout in the mornings, Michelle will greet you with a cheerful hello as she keeps the areas clean. There's also a running track on the third floor. For some reason this gym is WAY emptier than the gym in Morton Hall. The machines are almost always open, and the ventilation is better in comparison. There's also a water bottle refill station in the left corner and a coat rack on the right corner. During my visits I've seen group classes such as spin, free weight drills, and Zumba.
