    Island Princess Fishing Boat

My family and I took the 4th of July Fireworks Captree Cruise to Jones Beach Fireworks Show ($65)…read moreon The Island Princess (IP). We purchased our tickets through the website: https://www.islandprincesscaptree.com. The IP is located inside New York's Captree State Park. We put "Island Princess Captree" into Google Maps and it led us straight there. Parking was $8.00 and the parking lot is a good size. The tickets indicated to please arrive at the dock by 6:00pm the latest for check-in and boarding. It was easy to locate the IP and we checked in with a staff member at the bottom of the stairs. The boat left the dock exactly at 6:30pm. About 8:00pm, we anchored and watched the sunset. Till the Grucci Fireworks Show started about 9:30pm, we were able to see fireworks in the distance in all the different towns. The boat tuned into WALK 97.5 FM which simulcasted music during the fireworks presentation. There were music by BTS, Rosé, Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA," and Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA." The Grucci Fireworks Show lasted till about 10:00pm and then the boat headed back to Captree State Park. So many people fell asleep on the way back. Free coffee and other snacks were available for purchase on the boat. My family and I enjoyed the 4th of July Fireworks Captree Cruise to Jones Beach Fireworks Show on the IP. We felt that the other fireworks shows went longer than the Grucci Fireworks Show, but it was still magnificent. It was an event that I've never participated in for the 4th of July, so it was definitely very nice and weather couldn't have been even more perfect. I had a light sweater on when it got a little chilly.

I see people bringing alcohol too. Recommend to arrive 30 min ahead. Pro: - located in captree state park. All boats are located right at entrance where the restaurant is. Easy to find. Big parking lot. - we were greeted by the mates right away. Friendly. - all fishing equipment provided. Fake bait used. - Three mates noted. Kevin and Andrew helped us the most. Very attentive. They made rounds often to see anyone need help. They show our inexperienced family how to cast/ reel. They were right there with a net when someone reel in a fish. - I didn't get Seasick during this 4 hours trip despite it was windy - left exactly at 5 pm and arrived back a little after 9 pm. - the ship moved around at least 5 times to attempt to catch fish. - ship sells $2 candy, $1 chips etc. reasonable price. - I called the website number to confirm the day before. A man answered with good attitude. Con: - there were about 15-20 customers. Despite spreading out, fishing lines were frequently tangled up. - as far as I know, only 4 fishes were caught and only one keeper ( small bluefish) during the whole trip among everyone. Not their fault though. - after I paid online, I only got email from PayPal for payment confirmation. I never got email or text confirmation from the Fishfinder itself. - it can be costly. We paid $200 for a family of 4. I can't comment the bathroom since I didn't use. Other reviews stated there were no running water. And I'm not sure if live bait will make any difference. Will return for special occasions. Overall it's a fun trip. Kids had fun Tip: state park fishing pier is next to the dock. Stay after boat trip to fish some more or go crabbing ( especially low or high tide). .

My friend and I boarded the Northstar III, while we booked for the Northstar II. The staff said they were installing new engines in the II. Although I didn't catch anything during my trip except a crab,, they did make multiple stops and when the waves got a little rocky, they went to another spot. 90% of the spots we went to felt very calm. The first time I was on a fishing charter boat was in South Brooklyn and that experience was horrible. But with North Star, I didn't get seasick at all during my 4 hour boat ride. Boy, I was nervous!! My friend and I were lucky enough to be situated next to a lovely couple. Chatting with them and hearing their fishing adventures definitely made the time fly by. The staff were very helpful in refilling the bait and untangling the fishing lines. I would have liked if they provided different baits besides spearing. We went during 8am to 12pm and were trying to catch fluke, there were many searobins caught, few fluke and I don't think any of them were keeper size (19 inches for 2017). I didn't like that there were people close to me smoking, and throughout the trip I just smelled cigarette smoke. There should either be a rule of not smoking or segregating smokers and non-smokers. My overall experience was possitve, and I would definitely be using North Star again.

Being one of the smaller state parks in New York what it lacks in size it certainly makes up for in recreation. Known for its charter fishing fleet stationed on the North side of the park which embarks daily on fishing adventures (equipment provided) on the great South Bay or North Atlantic. There are two major fishing peers in the park one on the north and my favorite that over looks the Robert Moses causeway on the south, unlike the charter boats you are on you own with equipment for fishing off the peers but the good news is that there is a bait and tackle shop located near the North peer should you need some hooks or bait. Captree offers a bar and restaurant of sorts and concession stand if you're hungry after a long day of charter boat fishing or just stop in for the occasional live music. Don't forget to take a walk or bike ride on the ocean parkway green way, the trail head begins here and ends 13.7 miles away on jones beach. Come to captree to get out in the ocean air and maybe even have a picnic if you desire, the views from the south end on the overlook beach are fantastic.
