I did not have the pleasure of attending the Yelp event that was here a few months ago, however, I did check it out for someone's birthday and had a pretty awesome time. Hidden in the basement of a hotel, but not quite so hidden, the street sign says "$5 Beers and Free Games - Thursdays & Fridays starting at 5pm and Saturdays at 8pm". Awesome deal for the area. Inside it's pretty spectacular. A huge circular fish tank, fun colorful lights and decor. Of course, the games. They have what I think was pac man or some arcade games on the tables. Ski ball in one corner and mini bowling in the other corner. The bowling system sometimes had issues and would shut down but workers fixed that stuff up fast in between rounds. Drinks were pretty tasty. You can be wild and crazy and order a gigantic fishbowl. They're a bit exorbitantly priced. Or just go with a traditional cocktail or their $5 beer specials. My favorite drink I tried was the Marble Queen: Milagro Silver, Coconut, Lime, and a chili salt rim. It tasted like a tequila pina colada. The Stout Old Fashioned was another great choice being both smoky and sweet. Food options. . . . nothing really totally stood out to me. A few appetizers were set up for a large group of us. The cheese with the pretzel nuggets was kind of good. The raw tuna poke in a jar was cute but also. . . . its just poke. I can eat poke not in a jar for way cheaper at so many places nearby. But I really liked some of the accompanying sauces that had like spicy mayo and a cilantro mayo kind of cream sauce. Sliders and nachos were just a-okay. Spinach artichoke cheese dip was a really small portion for a huge group to share. I think I ate like one spoonful but it tasted good. This spot is good for drinks and games more than food. Took the team here on Friday in midtown, we were about 30. I had a blast, playing old school arcade games, bowling and ski ball, I was in my glory. Drinks were inventive, music was nice, servers were great and host Adam was on point. Food was very finger food snack-ish. Oh, one more benefit, cell phone reception is nil in the basement. This bar has got it all!!! I went here for a SuperBowl party and is easy to find because it is in the dream hotel. When getting through the doors to this club you walk down a spiral staircase which has wallpapered walls that look like swirling water. As you walk down this spiral there is a coat check and then you walk through the main doors. Once you enter you see a large bar in front a floor to ceiling fish tank on your right and a double skee ball machine on your left. It's themed like a high end old school bar when you walk further into the bar the have a 2 lane bowling alley and a stage!!! Been here a few times and have always enjoyed myself. Free photo booth, skee ball, mini bowling definitely add to the fun. The DJ is always good and gets everyone on the dance floor. The bar area doesn't get as crowded, if you prefer to have a seat and more of a relaxed night. They close for private events pretty often so you may want to check on that when you plan on visiting. From the times I've been here there has never been a cover charge which is great. I've had the giant Moscow mule, great deal and I'd say enough for 3 people to share. So fishbowl is located on 55th and Broadway in the Dream Midtown Hotel. My experience with it started on a random night where a friend of mine invited me to the LGBT night which occurs typically on Saturday night. My friend is white and I am not(this detail will be important)I walked up and I am greeted by a heavy set white man named Michael who wears glasses. It was around 3 am and many folks were leaving the establishment. I came up to the rope and was promptly told that it was a private event. I was puzzled because my friend who is white never made mention of this detail, but I took Michael for his word that it was in fact a private event. As I began to walk away I began to see as a few other patrons who were white entered the establishment. When Michael let them in there was barely any clearance. I expected him to at least check a list and he failed to even do that. On the contrary, a couple black patrons attempted to enter the establishment as were turned away. I texted my friend and informed him that I was told it was a private event and he said there was nothing of the sort. Long story short, it is quite apparent that this establishment has a strict code that dictates that black folks are not welcome. If Michael wants this to be a standard policy he should make that known more explicitly and stop wasting all our time. Unfortunate that men like him are allowed to continue operating in this diverse city. read more

Awesome event space in the heart of midtown. Fishbowl is perfect for corporate outings and happy hours. The space has games, a DJ booth, bowling, photo booth and great atmosphere. The space is also completely private and away from the rest of the hotel so you will not have to worry about guests or other interferences during your party. And privacy is not an issue. The space has a giant fishtank upon entry - hence the name that makes the atmosphere fun and playful. I would highly suggest fishbowl for your next team outing or party experience. We went for a Yelp Elite Event and it was such a unique and fun event!! The space is such a hidden gem. I loved the feel; it was classy and trendy yet whimsical and retro! There were a few old-school arcade games, two bowling lanes, Sketchball and a photo booth. All the games were free (unlike barcades). The staff was all really friendly. The waitress was on top of her game with the drinks but the food came out really slow. They did have another event going on so it's understandable. I tried all three drinks because why not and they were all delicious and strong. My favorite drink was the Thai Tea. It was a mix of thai iced tea, Belvedere, and ginger syrup. so yum! I was surprisingly impressed with how good the poke and crudite platters were. The poke was delicious and served with shrimp crackers. They played with presentation and served one on top of the shrimp crackers on one plate in jars where you can fill your own. All the poke plates would clear out the moment the waiter left. The crudite platters are posh veggies platters (but in a good way). It was filled with unique veggies, like purple carrots. The bison chili nachos were good. We were really excited to check out Fishbowl after hearing about it a couple months back. So when a friend was visiting from out of town, we decided to make Fishbowl our first stop of the night. We went around 8:30 pm on a Saturday and unfortunately they were closed for a private event until 10:00 pm but the cool part about this area is there's a good amount of places you cab hop around, so decided to check on Tanner Smiths next door and came back to Fishbowl later at night. - Atmosphere: The best part about Fishbowl is probably the novelty of the bar. They have two Skee Ball Machines, two lanes of mini-bowling and a neat "Fish Bowl"/ aquarium in the middle of the bar. They also have retro-style menus and theme. Unfortunately I don't these novel items really die much to add to our experience in a practical way aside from the idea/ decor of it. Skee Ball was pretty accessible and barely a wait to play. Bowling was a larger line and wait. The bar itself played pretty cool music, including 90s jams like Justin Timberlake, Spice Girls, etc. which was cool and brought us back to our childhood. Give a high score for the music selection, only thing is that the music is pretty loud and overbearing, where you can barely hear the person next to you without speaking really loudly. If music was a bit lower, would give this an "A"! Generally, Fishbowl has a younger crowd of young professionals, mostly in the mid-twenties and early thirties. - Drinks: The drinks were fairly reasonably priced for New York. Cocktails were about $13 and a beer was around $8. Wanted to try the Mighty Mule ($60) for a huge Mowcow Mule, but didn't get a chance. Overall, was cool to check it out, but generally I wouldn't recommend it. If you're looking for a fun time with good drinks and food, I would recommend Lucky Strike not too far from Fishbowl, which has real bowling, ping pong tables, pool, etc. If you're looking for good drinks, you have Tanner Smiths next door. Probably won't be checking out Fishbowl again -- cool idea, underwhelming experience. read more

It's just okay. It's a good place for crappy-to-ok drinks for a large group casual get together. There are games available, but it's not the focus and it's too crowded to enjoy on a busy night, so if that's what you're going for, I would go elsewhere (like Barcade). I didn't mind this because it wasn't really a priority for me. It was good for a birthday where people would be coming and going all evening, so it served its purpose. The only thing is that my friend had a reserved seating area where we left our coats, and they were taken elsewhere without our consent. Almost lost my coat on a freezing night, but after tons of searching and talking to various people, it was found. You may not be so lucky. Not my favorite place, but I wouldn't be against going back. Just be sure not to trust your reservation, because they may just give your area to someone else just because you choose to get up to play games or greet your friends. read more

Fishbowl is this great combination of bar, arcade, underground speak easy. It's in the basement of a hotel, has an upscale decor, bar snacks, drinks, and bowling. How could it get any better!? The food is delicious and the cocktails are actually picturesque . I had the chicken sliders and I really enjoyed them- flavorful and filling. Think their were Mexican inspired because of the flavors. I also was entranced by the fishbowl. I spent several minutes entranced by the colorful fish. And the games were a lot of fun. Bowling and skeeball are great for competing against friends. But the games were not working well. One of the bowling lanes was out of service and the one that was, was returning the bowling balls like it should. The skee ball machines were also having issues. I went to an after work event here & had such a great time! We had open bar, ordered some food to share, and had a section roped off for our party. It is a fun space with some interactive games to play. They have mini bowling lanes, skee ball, a photo booth, and table games - all free! They have a fun menu too! I tried the Star Burst shooter (ketel orange, Red Bull). Some of my friends got the Mighty Mule, which is a huge Moscow mule that can be split by 6 people. For food we tried the loaded nachos, chicken pibil sliders, tuna poke, kale artichoke dip, wagyu patty melt, and shrimp cocktail. All decent appetizers to share. My coworker's booked the event, so I'm unsure about pricing for some blocked off space, open bar, and food (if reasonable or not). Definitely had a great time! read more

they have a tubular/cylindrical aquarium for fish in the lobby. I watched the fish swimming round and round their narrow enclosure, sadly, and thought this does not look humane for these fish. They just go round and round, over and over, continually. The enclosure apparently goes down into the floor and up to the ceiling - but the fish don't swim up and down . They go horizontal. It's in midtown, Fishbowl at Dream Hotel, 210 W. 55th St.. I just read that there is another aquarium in the basement game room, and it is very loud there, with bowling and music and drinking. Not fair to the fish who come from a quiet ocean. they clearly are not considering the habitat or best interest of these animals, just exploiting saltwater fish . Came here for Super Bowl event. $15 to get in and that didn't include anything, but no big deal. It's fine. Drinks were expensive; $14 for crap wine, $16 for mixed drinks with bottom-shelf crap vodka. Bartenders were terrible. Unpleasant. Never cracked a smile. And there should have been more of them. Couldn't get my order right, which is funny since the menu choices included wings or wings... (and they took a half hour to arrive!). Really? Super bowl and you have no other food options other than wings??? (EDIT: I forgot. There was also avocado toast or something on the menu. Yes. 2 choices. Guest list policies are strict to maintain the whitest standards: 1. Know the chubby guy or know someone who knows the chubby guy (read: white and aspiring to be an Instagram influencer): line bypass 2. Just white: get in line 3. Not white: get in line and pay some arbitrary amount (usually $500) Okay, so some minorities might get in, but hey, they paid a lot to get in so they are probably rich. Oh and also, they're all gay, but most will be white, so shouldn't be a problem. Actually one last thing: the bouncer is a black guy, but he's cool - he's on your side. ;) P.S. Management of the place has continued this guest list-only event despite complaints, so Alt Right swags are likely okay. But maybe not on other nights because they welcome diversity. read more

We had the same experience as Jack M. below this past Saturday Night 8/26. We were looking forward to a great night out to celebrate a few birthdays at this highly recommended spot in NYC. I initially called the week before to get information about the place. I had specifically asked if there was a cover, and was advised that there was no cover, and customers were served on a first come, first serve basis. Upon arrival (9:30pm) to Fishbowl we were greeted by two young ladies at the door, we inquired about the cover, they advised at that time it was a $50 minimum spend per person or $1,000 for table service. We had 9 people in our party. We waited on the line. While waiting, we were asked several times by 3 different people with clipboards if we purchased tickets in advance and were reminded that it was a $50 minimum spend per person or we had the option of bottle service for $1,000, which guaranteed us seating. I am not sure where we had the opportunity to purchase tickets in advance. That was not mentioned when I call and when you visit the website and click on the "Book Now" link (https://dream.tripleseat.com/party_request/3318), you get a "Page Not Found" error. That link is still inactive and message still appears. However, we did see people with digital tickets on their phone, so I'm sure we didn't notice something somewhere. About 10:15pm we get to the front of the line and a gentleman asked how many people were in our party, I reminded them that we were a party of 9 and he then said, "ok we can get you in for $800." I politely responded and explained that when we arrived and during our 45 minute wait we were told that there was a $50 minimum spend per person, which we were prepared for. He then denied that he or anyone else told me that, when I asked the young lady who I spoke with at the door initially, she also denied that she ever told us that, "I never told you that", after looking at the gentleman, who might have been the manager. They then proceeded to tell me that the $50 minimum spend was a "special" available until 9:00pm. Well, we arrived after 9:00pm and we waited for 45 minutes, you think someone would have mentioned that to us and the others on line? I think not. I'm really not get the type of person to get excited, but this threw me over the edge. After watching the finger pointing of each other and blatant lying, I expressed my disappointment and we simply decided to walk away and enjoy our time at another bar nearby. Such a shame. A really cool place where the inmates are running the asylum. After such experience, I doubt I will return or recommend this "hotspot." read more

This place turned out to be great. First attended this spot for St. Patrick's Day on this year and the drinks were flowing. The crowd seems juiced up and everyone seem to be having a good time. Beers turned out to be about $8 each (Coney Island mermaid pilsner). The crowd at an event when I was here was more young professionals and corporate and crowd still seemed to purchase alot of drinks that night of all variables. The fish tank is cool, such a big size and cool to see. Atmosphere seemed nice, but this is not a bar I would come to like every week, pricey cocktails to me. Excellent drink i did have Stout Old Fashioned featuring Rittenhouse Rye Whiskey ($16 or $17). Also Rum Cannonball was a great drink features rum, pineapple juice and fresh lime. Would recommend this place to check out at least once in your lifetime. Skeeball and mini bowling along with pinball style themes will keep you entertained. This is an awesome bar in Midtown West filled with arcade games, delicious drinks and pretty delicious food! The bar is called Fishbowl after the gigantic fish tank that goes from the bar up to the hotel lobby. While the front of the bar hosts skee-ball, the back a the bar features tables, all with different arcade games. I played Pac-Man for over an hour and was a pretty smitten. The cocktail menu features cleverly concocted cocktails, my favorite was the Marble Queen, a cup of coconut margarita goodness. To eat, I sampled the nachos, tuna poke, chicken pibil sliders and the crudite spread. I salute you on this delicious bar food, Dream Midtown Hotel. I don't know what this place thinks it is, or trying to be. I went in on a Friday around midnight. Security guy gets the approval from the hostess to let me in...oh, I'm so special, I passed. I go down the stairs with anticipation, get wanded by security to walk in to like...20 people. All I saw on tap was Heineken. I might have ordered a beer, but neither bartender turned around for several minutes. Management at this property discriminates entry based on color. I was looking to attend an evening there for my birthday and was the only person of my party denied entry. I wasn't denied so much as I was asked to wait as other individuals from the line behind me were let in. When I inquired as to if I was in the wrong line, the club promoter (Michael Cohen) harassed me: asking me to yell profanities at him so he could ask me to leave. I was so shocked. I asked to speak to management of the Dream Hotel to relay that I just wanted to join my party. They informed me that they can deny entry to anyone that didn't fit their vibe. The music was loud, yes but still able to hear your friends. There is a great area to really get down and dance and the area near the bar was a little more chill. I enjoyed a Marble Queen and man was it good! If you like a pina colada and a margarita, imagine the two being perfectly blended together! I enjoyed the Skee Ball games, PAC Man, and the photo booth. Even the giant fish tank in the middle of the room is gorgeous. My friends bought a huge fishbowl drink that was about $100 but could definitely do 4 people dirty. I went to Fishbowl Saturday for the first time recently and I'll definitely be back. The music was great and there was plenty of space to dance. Got to know some of the PR staff and they were super friendly. I wouldn't say dress formal, but definitely look your best because the staff at the door is discerning. So, this review is less about PHD Terrace and Fishbowl and more about the extraordinary employee they have, Robert Corroza. Although PHD is gorgeous, and Fishbowl has all of the makings of a crazy fun night we were having a less than stellar experience and were about to head out to see what else NYC had to offer when Robbie happened to hear that we were disappointed in the evening. He responded with such sincere concern and immediately demonstrated the kind of urgency and effectiveness that not only keeps people from leaving but makes them want to come back EVERY SINGLE CHANCE THEY GET. The staff there clearly respects and responds to him and once he addressed the issues we were having with them (which btw he did discreetly and respectfully which as a former manager myself I very much appreciated), each one fell in line and took outstanding care of us. We stayed for every last minute on Friday night enjoying both PHD and Fishbowl and came right back to both on Saturday for an equally awesome time, adding the Rickey into the mix too! I hope that the folks at PHD Terrace, Fishbowl, the Rickey and the Tao Group understand what an asset he is and how truly lucky they are to have someone who not only truly listens to complaints but understands what it takes to resolve them and turn a customer 100% around into a lifer. We will continue to trust this place as long as he's around and if he ever leaves, I'm going to follow to whatever place he goes as I know the service will be there. Went here on a Friday night with some friends and it was very trendy. We went downstairs first and the Ambiance was great. Music could have been better though. We then decided to take the elevator upstairs and it was just insane, jam-packed, great view, overall good spot. Be ready to spend money though. It cost about 150 just to go upstairs. read more

Came here the night they opened. It's a cool environment - they have skee ball and mini-bowling alleys in the back. The music was mediocre and the bar closed early (2AM) which we weren't expecting. Came here over weekend since a friend we knew was DJ'ing. It's right by PhD Midtown, so I'd say a pretty similar crowd. Bartender was super nice! :) And they have the cutest large aquarium of super cool fish (which I guess is why the place is called Fishbowl :)). This is one of the most fun bars I've ever attended. There are so many activities and yet the bar was surprisingly uncrowded on a Friday night. They have miniature bowling, a photo booth, skee ball, Pac-Man and a few other electronic games. They were also playing some solid dance songs. This place is perfect for a large group. I recommend the Mexican Mighty Mule fishbowl, which was surprising strong and serves 4-6 for $60. read more
