Monster new beer bar in midtown that provides a variety of activities to keep you occupied while you're here. Great for groups to congregate at or colleagues to come after work. The vibe is fun, festive, and loud. The entire bar is three floors and fits 600 people, three times the amount at Reichenbach Hall a few blocks away (same owners). But if you want to forgo the Oktoberfest theme, this is where you come - I mean, they have a cocktail named Caramel Apple Pie; they're really trying to drive home the American thing! I came for an alumni reunion that took place up by the door. When you keep walking, you enter the spacious main area that has both tables and long high-top tables to stand at. The food is typical bar food - Americana menu, small portions, very greasy! I had a chicken quesadilla, some of the queso dip, spinach and cheese dip, a tiny slider, fried cauliflower, and wings (smallest wings I've ever seen). The service was attentive to our group, even with a full house. Overall, good place for groups. Nothing really stood out in terms of the food menu. Others noted that drinks were on the pricey side, but I wouldn't know. Glad I went; it's worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for a comforting place to hang. read more

What a joke! This place, until very recently, was called Habanero Blues and while far from perfect, had some decent food and really decent margaritas. The large space is great for groups and coworkers who need some space to spread out. This marks the end of the positive description about American Hall. I don't know if the ownership changed, or what, but now this place is what you'd expect an American themed bar in Japan to look/feel/act like. It misses the mark so hilariously that you have to wonder how it all even came to exist. They painted over the Mexican tiles with a bad paint job to make the entire back of the bar a giant, sloppy looking American flag and kept half the menu while "Americanizing" the names (Queso? Nope, try our Texas Queso!). Why are there KISS lyrics on a chalkboard over the door? I half expected to see a knock-off Hard Rock Cafe-style gift store in one of the dark, empty corners of the restaurant area. The "Americana" kitsch drilled into the walls all around the bar don't do the atmosphere any favors, either. I've seen enough faux-rusted Route 66 signs for a lifetime, theme restaurants can give it a rest now. Service was worse (how hard is it to get my friend a drink when there are 4 people in the entire place?) than ever and even the staff seemed to be whitewashed (literally). The posters in the bathroom felt more like satirical propaganda than anything reminiscent of reality, and the longer I stayed I began to wonder if I was on some hidden camera show - because each detail you observe becomes more absurd than the last. As I sat there, too afraid to leave because it was raining horribly out and I hadn't brought an umbrella with me that day, I became more and more offended as I remembered how I was told by a poster that less beer choices are better. Did they hire Sarah Sanders as their interior designer? What madness! Frankly, I am sketched out by all the glowing reviews around here so far and think they smell like a lot of friends and family propping up their average. Had a small Halloween birthday party in the arcade level. We brought in about 50 people at various times and it was clear there weren't staffed enough to accommodate this many people. Cocktail drinks were slow to come. We ordered a lot of appetizers to share. The pork and cracklings was a little disappointing compared to the photos. The wings (mango haberno, lemon pepper, house dry rub) were alright. We also ordered nachos, artichoke dip, fries. A little pricey for what it is but still a good variety. The arcade games were kind of a rip off. Half the machines didn't work and when I told the worker, they kinda brushed it off. I'm not sure if yelp's description of "Hot and New" is accurate cause a lot of their machines and especially the pool tables were pretty worn out. Pool cost $10 per hour (for two people) or $20 per hour (for four people). All bad things aside, it's a good place to host a big group. The music got better through the night. People can play games if they want, watch movies on the big screen, or just drink and talk. It wasn't packed on a Saturday night. read more

It's a great place. There were a few hiccups (bartender didn't know the Happy Hour special, bartender didn't know how to make a certain drink, etc.), but the place is fairly new so it's understandable. The entire place is big and spacious so it can accommodate larger crowds. The basement has an arcade area with pool tables, arcade games and foosball. The food was really good as well. I tried the Peanut Butter and Jelly wings and I was pleasantly surprised on how good they were. The workers there are also very nice. I highly recommend this place. My boyfriend and I were spending the weekend in NYC and staying across the street. We saw American Hall on 'Hot and New' and decided to check it out! I think a lot of peoples' complaints are the result of new restaurant growing pains that will hopefully work themselves out. I know that this used to be Habanero Blues, and I think it's the same owner who decided to completely redo the restaurant. Also, a lot of people were calling this a dive bar? I'm a little confused by that because this certainly isn't a dive bar by any standards that I know. When I think of a dive bar, I think of a place that serves pretty much only Bulleit, cheap vodka, and free popcorn if you promise not to break any freakin' windows. This is a far cry from that. There's a solid cocktail menu, a decent (and bizarre, to be honest) food menu complete with appetizers and entrees. Speaking of that, I thought the menu was quirky to the max. They have peanut butter and jelly wings, which sounds awful but actually, it was fantastic (don't worry, I tasted them before the cocktails!). But if you've ever had chicken satay, it's like that but in wing form, served with a slightly spicy jelly that's not at all like the sweet goop that you'd put on a sandwich. It was a surprisingly light and delicious appetizer. The rest of their menu is similarly weird and I highly recommend checking it out if you're a strange (or gluttonous?) eater. I tried the whole cocktail menu and there wasn't a single drink I didn't like! It was very appropriate for fall. My favorite was probably the caramel apple pie. Look, I hate fake apple, but this wasn't that at all. It was odd that there was tequila in the drink, but it turned out great because it kept the rest of the drink from being overly sweet from the cider and butterscotch schnapps. A close second for me was an odd combination that I never thought I'd try (or like): the Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ. Yup, that's right. It is literally a serving of Maker's Mark with a beer and actual barbecue sauce. However, it was light and refreshing and certainly a tasty break from all the sugared up cocktails that can be really punishing on the stomach. There's an arcade downstairs, which is a pretty cool addition. We didn't really get to it, but I'd love to come back here and hang out in the arcade with a few drinks. I really adored this offbeat little bar/arcade (barcade?) and hopefully you'll give it a chance. I'd love to see it stay. read more

The diviest of dive bars, but with a tourist twist. We came here because we needed a place to grab a beer and chill before a show. It was a very large space for not a lot happening. There were screens/TVs projecting games, but the place didn't have a very good atmosphere. We also saw children inside (???) and people who were clearly not from NY. Amazing place with great vibes and good old American comfort food! I went with a couple of friends for a Weekday lunch. We ordered some beer to go with our artichoke dip, meatballs and shishito peppers. Followed by shrimp and grits and the special salmon burger. Brig, the general manager gave us the utmost attention and made sure we didn't leave without some delicious peach blueberry cobbler, cheesecake and peanut butter cake. This is by far my favorite spot in Midtown-Manhattan to go with my friends and coworkers to have a nice cold beer. I was looking to book a place for a birthday celebration and this place was exactly what we were looking for. The manager was very nice and gave me his event manager's information. Ana was very professional and helped me reserve out the basement where they have 2 pool tables, a foosball table and a bunch of arcade games (no fee to reserve the space and no minimum spend - foosball and pool tables were free to use and arcade games were 50cents per play). It was a great time and really laid back. Everyone left happy. We had about 60 people stop by throughout the night and the staff was really great. Only downside is that there's no reception down there, but they provide WiFi so you can stay connected. I recommend this place for a laid back, fun time out! read more

Loved this place! I was there with a small group of friends. We had dinner upstairs and then played in the arcade room in the cellar. The arcade is spacious and not loud so it had a great vibe. We just had beers and played foosball and pac man :) As far as the food, I really enjoyed the meatballs. For dessert we had brownies: they were delicious and looked super cute, as they are served in a stand with a candle, kind of like a fondue setup. I will def. be coming back! read more

Came in on a Wednesday after 5, place is slow, head down to the arcade bar, only patron. Whiskey drink special for $10 equates to a half rocks glass Manhattan. Bar burger is average though they acknowledged my request for blue cheese (dressing) and buffalo wing sauce on the side. 6 beers on tap...standard InBev bottles. Extremely Large multi level bar, essentially like the name says, the American version on Reichenbach Hall on the next block north by the same team. This spot has a subterranean Game level of Arcade games etc, the tables are more high top picnic tables, opposite of the low tables at Reichenbach. On my 1st visit it was pretty close to their opening date, so we were able to take over the space, their were a few TV glitches for the baseball playoffs, but nothing that won't get worked out. Went here recently for a birthday party in the cellar. Linda behind the bar was great. She was very attentive and kept the drinks flowing. She recommend the $1 wings special, something they only offer on Wednesday nights. I ordered 20 and wish I ordered more. They were finger licking good. I can't remember the name but do yourself a favor and order the burger with barbecue sauce (cowboy burger if I'm not mistaken) it's really good. This is definitely a place to throw a huge party or just to hang out with friends/family. There is no shortage of entertainment with many tv screens, foosball table, arcade games, board games, corn hole, etc. Went with a couple of friends and was greeted by Willy (one of the owners) who chatted with us for bit at our table. The waitstaff was extremely attentive and friendly. Our waiter Brig made some really great suggestions. We ordered shishito peppers, homemade butcher balls and artichoke spinach dip for apps. Followed by salmon burger (which was so moist), shrimp n grits (just melts in your mouth) and a cauliflower salad. We didn't stop at that. Dessert was amazing. We used American Hall for a corporate holiday party and I had the most amazing time. Everyone loved the food, the staff, the venue and the games! I felt like we were their priority and that they were ready and understood the needs of the guests to have food flowing. I was even happier that there were leftovers at the end of the party, to me that is the best sign of a successful party as it means that everyone ate their fill. Although as the organizer, my favorite part was being one of the first stops for the pork belly as I made it very well known that trying that was my priority and it did not disappoint. The troughs were ATTACKED and I loved that as well. Another item the guests loved was the set up, they were grateful to be able to walk through the room to chat with others and to have elbow room to eat and drink. We hosted a baby shower at American Hall on a Saturday afternoon. We chose this venue because of the amount of space they had, board games available, and no minimum to reserve tables for our group of 15. The events coordinator was very responsive to any questions we had leading up to the event, and we were able to preorder food for our guests. On the day of, the manager and hostesses were very helpful and accommodating when we wanted to move to tables closer to the corner. We were checked up on often for drinks, and was able to specify when we wanted the food to come out. The food came out quickly and guests loved the guacamole and spinach artichoke dip. While drink prices were a bit high, we would recommend this venue for future group events due to the large space, helpful staff and fun, low key environment. read more
