Came here for a car inspection on a Tuesday morning and lemme tell ya - these folks are fast and…read moreefficient. It's a small place but seems quite equipped to manage a lot of car issues, and the gentleman who did my inspection that day (Charlie) was the sole person doing them, so he was cranking through a list of folks. They put your name on the clipboard when you arrive and just go straight down that list. I'd called beforehand to confirm their hours and theyd advised to come early so I came around 9a or so. I think the wait was about 15-20 mins? Really wasn't bad, I just fiddled with my phone and sat in my car. The actual inspection was also pretty fast, like 10 mins or maybe even a bit less. I appreciated the efficiency. Of note they do charge a 3% credit card fee. A lot of places do that nowadays, but that was really the only "surprise." They also offer a basic inspection ($12, basics to renew car reg) or a more thorough one for $18 where they check your wipers and lights etc.

Every once in a while, Austin reminds you why you fell in love with it in the first place--and…read moresurprisingly, this time it happened during an oil change. Let's be real: getting your oil changed usually ranks somewhere between "waiting at the DMV" and "realizing you forgot your charger at home." But Lube Pit Stop on South Lamar managed to turn it into the best oil change experience I've ever had in this city. And I don't say that lightly. From the moment I pulled in, the vibe was pure old-school Austin--friendly, unpretentious, and refreshingly human. No corporate script. No forced smiles. Just genuinely kind, courteous folks who seem to actually care about the people driving through their bays. Here's what really stood out: No upselling. None. Zero. Zilch. No "while we're at it..." scare tactics. No mystery fluids that suddenly must be replaced. Just honest work, clearly explained. Quick and efficient. I barely had time to scroll Yelp before they were done. In and out without feeling rushed or overlooked--an impressive balance. Kindness across the board. The entire team was polite, professional, and approachable in a way that feels increasingly rare. It wasn't flashy--it was sincere. And here's the kicker: when I drove away, I felt good. No second-guessing. No lingering "did I just get taken?" anxiety. Just the calm confidence that comes from dealing with people who do their job well and don't try to squeeze every extra dollar out of you. They also do state inspections, which is officially the cherry on top. One stop, no nonsense, handled by people you trust? That's a win in Austin traffic math. This is the kind of local business you root for. The kind you tell your friends about. The kind that quietly becomes your place without you even realizing it. Lube Pit Stop is officially who I'll be using from now on--and honestly, I hope they never change a thing. Highly recommend. Old Austin energy. Solid service. Zero BS.

LADIES, AVOID AT ALL COSTS! PREDATORY PRACTICES!! I REGRET COMING HERE SO MUCH!…read more I brought my car into Mario's Inspection Station last summer because my AC was only working on the highest setting, was making a loud noise, and was leaking. I stopped at Mario's because I pass by it every day on my way home. I had already been dealing with this issue for some time and had previously taken my car to another mechanic up north. Since that shop was out of the way and Mario's had great reviews, I decided to give them a chance. I pulled in, and the owner came out, told me where to park, took my keys, and said one of his mechanics would take a look at it. I went inside and waited while they inspected the car. A little later, the owner came back into the lobby and told me they had added Freon and that there might be an issue with the control switch and condenser. He said they would need to order parts and continue looking into the problem. Then he handed me a bill for $360. I was completely shocked. Mind you, I had already had another mechanic add Freon to the system just a few months earlier. I was not expecting a bill anywhere near that amount. What upset me the most was that nobody consulted me before performing the work. I never gave consent for them to add Freon. Had they asked, I would have told them that Freon had already been added recently and that I wanted to understand the issue before spending hundreds of dollars. The owner told me the Freon charge was fixed and that the remaining $160 was for diagnosing the problem. He could tell I was visibly upset. He walked me out to my car and tried to reassure me that they were going to fix the issue and that the $160 diagnostic fee would go toward the repair. He told me he would order the parts and call me the very next day. Well, guess what? He never called. Not the next day. Not later that week. Not ever. I never reached back out because the entire experience made me feel so icky. I felt uncomfortable, frustrated, and honestly taken advantage of. So I drove around for the next year with my AC STILL broken. Fast forward to now. I finally decided to do my own research and figure the problem out myself. After watching a few videos and reading up on the issue, I discovered that the likely culprit was the blower motor and blower motor resistor. I ordered the parts on Amazon, spent less than $50, and fixed it myself in about 15 minutes. So after charging me $160 for a diagnosis (a wrong one at that), never following up, pumping freon that was unnecessary, and leaving me with the exact same problem I came in with, I ended up solving it myself for a fraction of the cost. Ladies, please do your research before handing over your keys and your wallet. My experience here was incredibly disappointing, and I would never return.

After their inspection, I approved additional repairs and paid $2,006.64, picking up the car on Nov. 17. Within days, the leak was worse. Instead of one leak, I now had two, along with a strong burning-oil smell while driving. I returned on Nov. 21 and was told it was just leftover oil and that everything had been cleaned. That same evening, I discovered the car was leaking from three different places. I brought the car back again on Dec. 2. After no communication all day, I called and was told they found another leaking gasket and wanted an additional $400. I was also told that "oil leaks are tricky on Volkswagens," but a properly diagnosed repair should not turn one leak into multiple new leaks in a matter of days. At this point, I declined further work. I paid over $2,000 and ended up with a car in worse condition than when I brought it in. I requested a refund in writing and never received a response. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this shop.

This is a very well organized business so if you're looking to trusting someone with your vehicle, this is the place to be. Sometimes they give you the same day appointments and sometimes they don't, kind of depends on how busy they are. But other than that they treat you with respect and honesty, when they tell you something wrong with your car they really mean it! Even if you research it like I did in the very beginning not knowing these guys but now that I've been with him for a few years I can truly tell you that I trust them one 100 percent. Highly knowledgable I highly recommend Lakeway business with the Austin automotive specialist! Give them a try....happy yelping!
