Food is good, sitting outside is great. Waiting in line for close to 2 hours just to place an order is unacceptable. Two, sometimes only one, person takes orders and also gets the drinks for the person ordering their food. That considerably slows down the whole process. While riding from San Francisco International Airport to Sonoma County, my friends and I were looking for a place to stop and eat lunch. I searched Yelp for restaurants in Sausalito because Sausalito is a great city with ample views of the Bay. Fish Restaurant was one of the top results. I did a quick look at the pictures and was sold. This place ended up being perfect for us. Not only was the food delicious, but the weather was great - sunny and clear - so we sat next to the water and enjoyed the beautiful natural scenery too. The restaurant wasn't crowded either, so we had a quiet, comfortable, and relaxed meal. I don't think we could've asked for much better, given the situation. Fish Restaurant opened in 2004 and, according to a well-written 2015 article by Lisa Landers at KQED (https://bit.ly/3F91MKp), "was one of only a few restaurants meeting a rising demand for honesty and sustainability in seafood sourcing." Fish Restaurant serves fresh, high-quality, sustainable seafood. The restaurant's founders care about seafood sustainability so much that they founded their own seafood distribution company and have used stricter guidelines than the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program: https://bit.ly/3VPGO9v. These guys are serious about sustainability. During our visit, the names of the fishing vessels ("F/V") the seafood came from were written on the menu blackboards behind the counter. I've eaten at a lot of seafood restaurants and I don't think I've ever noticed or seen that detail before. Locations, yes, but not specific boat names. The fish, shrimp, and squid of the day ranged in price from $21 to $39 each. There were also three kinds of daily oysters ($4 each or 13 for $48, minimum of 3). The regular paper menu had a variety of seafood like Fish and Chips ($24) made with Alaskan "true cod," a Tuna Melt Sandwich ($21) prepared with local albacore tuna, a Fish Reuben ($25) made with sustainable McFarland Springs trout, and a Steamer Bowl ($29) filled with one pound of Hog Island manila clams. Here's what we got: * All three types of Raw Oysters on the half shell (26 oysters for $96): - Pickering Passage (Washington) - Hammersley, South Puget Sound (Washington) - Beausoleil (New Brunswick, Canada) * White Clam Chowder (cup, $8) - Boston white with bacon * Poke ($22) - local albacore tuna loin in a shoyu poke sauce with shaved onion, furikake, and avocado with housemade tortilla chips * Linguine with Clams ($27) - clams served over housemade organic egg pasta with garlic, olive oil, and red chili flakes * Dungeness Crab Roll ($49) - West Coast Dungeness crab tossed with butter and chives, served on an Acme torpedo roll * Old Bay Chip Bowl ($6) - housemade chips seasoned with Old Bay I tried everything listed above except for the Dungeness Crab Roll (because I'm allergic to crab). Everything tasted great and hit the spot. This was casual seafood, but elevated in all aspects, especially in quality and freshness. It was a difference I could taste. I actually didn't know about this restaurant's sustainability efforts until after we dined here. We just wanted good food and this place 100% delivered on that. The Raw Oysters were terrific. Between the three types, I didn't have a favorite. They were equally succulent and satisfying. The oysters were served on a bed of crushed ice with lemon wedges and a mignonette sauce. There was also a condiment tray at our table filled with a squeeze bottle of I think cocktail sauce, a glass bottle of vinegar, and Cholula and Tabasco hot sauces. If you're a fan of oysters like us, the oysters here do not disappoint. The Poke was very good. What I liked about it was it was "authentic" Hawaiian-style poke, made in true Hawaiian fashion with soy sauce, packed with umami. I thought the furikake seasoning was a nice touch. There was also a lime wedge in the bowl. The tortilla chips were the relatively thick, hard kind. The texture was suitable for the chunky, meatiness of the tuna. When I saw pictures of the Linguine with Clams on Yelp, I knew I had to order it. This was a flavorful, gratifying, and filling dish filled with delectable clams, tender noodles, and a buttery, rich, flavorful broth that I just couldn't get enough of. This dish came with a slice of bread which, of course, was great for sopping up the broth. The Old Bay Chips were big, crispy, and very tasty. Service was good. The open-air, dog-friendly, bayside, picnic-table patio was awesome. Restrooms are located around the corner in the adjacent building next to the parking lot. Parking is free. We didn't have a problem finding a spot on a Thursday around 1:45pm. The name of this restaurant is technically "Fish." with a period at the end. When we texted our other buddies who landed after us that we were having lunch at "Fish Restaurant," they didn't realize the name of the restaurant was actually "Fish Restaurant" on Yelp and other places, like Instagram (@fishrestaurantsausalito). The last time I visited was over a decade ago - I came back again this past weekend, and have to say I'm thoroughly impressed! I don't have photos from my first visit, but the interior and exterior both look beautifully renovated. There was plenty of seating outside, and the weather was perfect - cool but not too cold, and seeing all the boats out on the water was absolutely beautiful. There was quite a long line to get to the counter, but staff were working very efficiently, and after we ordered, our food came out pretty quickly. The service was excellent - very friendly, and they offered me a glass of water in a mason jar while I waited for our food. I absolutely loved their delicious bowl of Boston white clam chowder. The fish and chips were amazing as well - there was way more fish than breading on each piece, and they had delicious seasoned potato wedges (instead of just regular fries, though those are great as well). I'm excited to explore the rest of their menu next time I'm in Sausalito! read more

Be prepared to wait especially if you hit this place at lunch time but well worth the wait. Lots of great seafood options, fish and chips, tacos, crab and lots more. Food was delicious and there is lots of outdoor tables that have a great view of the marina. Inside and outside was very clean. All the staff were very attentive and cleared and cleared tables so didn't have to deal with seagulls. Outdoor area was good for those with dogs and there is a short loop to walk them while the rest of your group queues . Parking was super easy once we found the parking lot close to the marina. got here around 2pm on a very sunny weekend. waited in line in the sun for almost an hour (it was very hot). i made the (uninformed) decision to come hungry but i really should have grabbed a bite along the way before committing to the wait so i was very hangry. ordered the fish & chips (cod) (4/5) - portion was very generous, fish was delicious and the batter was SO crispy and delicious and flavorful, but it did get a bit greasy and heavy in the end. the crisps were also seasoned well. and the grilled fish tacos (came with 3 tacos) (3.5) - really enjoyed all the toppings this came with, the fish was a bit fishy tasting but nothing too off-putting. unfortunately, the person that ate the majority of these tacos ended up with a stomach bug and toilet issues the next day. we aren't 100% sure if it was the tacos or something else, but it is of concern. the ketchup is communal and kept outside, in the sun, on the table. i personally think ketchup should be refrigerated once opened, but i'm not 100% sure on that so don't quote me. once you place your order and pay at the register, make sure you keep your receipt which has ur order number on it. you find a seat and the food runners will come out and call out your number, so make sure you're paying attention. i don't think that this was the most efficient way to run things, esp since it can be hard to miss. read more

Love the vibes of this place! It was a perfect day to have dinner by the water and some good food. We got one of their specials: the shrimp bibimbap and the baos as well. The baos were AMAZING. My boyfriend and I were starving and I came across this restaurant in a quick search. We came around 6:30pm on a weekday and it wasn't too crowded. There's indoor and outdoor seating but we opted for indoor seating. There's heat lamps for those to comfortably enjoy the outdoor seating on cold days or nights. When you walk in the restaurant you order and pay at the register and then the food is brought to your table. Everything we ordered exceeded our expectations and the portions were so big! Definitely worth the price for the amount of food they give you. The fish and chips (5/5) were some of the best I've ever had! The fish was super tender and the batter was perfectly crispy which was delicious with the tartar sauce. The wedges were crisp on the edge and soft in the center, super flavorful! I'm personally not a clam chowder (3.5/5) fan but my boyfriend said it was a solid bowl of clam chowder. It didn't wow him but also it was just what he wanted. Old bay chips (4/5) were a great pre dinner snack. The old bay seasoning isn't distributed very evenly so some chips had more flavor than others. The clam dip was creamy and delicious- it is cold just in case you expect a hot dip. The better option IMO was the octopus queso fundido - wow! Soooo cheesy with bites of octopus. This place is awesome! Go for the fish, stay for the views and the vibe. Fish is one of my favorite spots in Marin. Everything I've had here has been delicious, except for that bean side dish. The fish burger with trout is my favorite thing on the menu. It comes with a heap of fries. The fish is cooked super well. Plenty of pickles. Delish! There is also a great selection of wine and beer not to be missed, which makes this place even better for a group gathering. There are some large picnic tables indoors, and outside there is also some space for smaller groups. It's got that communal dining vibe, so don't be surprised if random people sit at your table. The staff is friendly and usually great with the recommendations. Everything is pretty self serve, so don't expect a "table service" kind of place. It's very west coast seafood and chill. Love it! Brought a friend who was in town to check out Fish Restaurant. Long line outside but was quick to get to the register where we placed our order. We got this fish & chips, monterey squid salad, clams spaghetti, and a bowl of white clam chowder. After seeing mixed reviews about the linguine and clams, I decided to just get it and try it myself. I really wanted to like it and the flavor was there but it just wasn't that great. The pasta is homemade, but was too dense (not in an al dente way) and not bouncy. The sauce was super watery, almost like soup, and did not stick to the pasta. The pasta was too dense to soak up the sauce (broth?). The flavor was all in the sauce/broth, which was spicy, buttery, and garlicky. They do give you A LOT of clams, I was actually pretty surprised by the amount. Their portion sizes here are quite large so I guess that justifies their prices. The pasta also came with a piece of plain bread. My friend got the poke bowl with trout and the trout was so fresh and flavorful with the sauce! I probably wouldn't come back but I think this is a decent place to stop by and try if you're with family and super hungry for some seafood. It's $49.00, but god damn is it delicious and worth it. Just a mound of buttered crab on a roll. So simple, sweet and tasty. My Mom loved it! The fish and chips were pretty solid (not the biggest fan of the wedge fries....the shoestring fries with the crab roll were better), too. Crispy, flaky, piping hot! The clam chowder is delicious and full of clams and their daily specials are always a treat. In any case, I didn't have an alternative in mind so I went with the fish sticks. The tuna melt was ok, but I'm sure they have better things on the menu. The fish sticks were absolutely vile. I got them for my kid and I noticed he was only eating the fries so I tried a bite. I didn't have high expectations seeing as they're just fish sticks, but they were oddly watery on the inside and mushy. The worst part of this experience, they weren't actually out of fish and chips because I saw several people who came in shortly after we did were able to order it with no problem. If you plan on ordering oysters, there's a minimum of three (which is great if your whole party doesn't want oysters!). which are priced at around $3-$5/per oyster. I highly recommend the green salad. I'm always a little hesitant about ordering a salad at a joint like this, but this salad caught me by surprise. There was a good variety of texture going on with the boiled potatoes and housemade croutons all accompanied with a light vinaigrette. The fish and chips are a great pick as well. The chips are crispy on the outside and nice and fluffy on the inside. The fish batter is nice and delicate, although there were some portions that had too much batter and no fish.
