This family owned gem is such an awesome addition to Rathdrum. The owner is always welcoming and his staff is equally as good. Hidden gem! Everything I've had so far has been outstanding. All their house made sauces and marinades and vinaigrettes and seasonings are top-notch. They definitely use higher quality ingredients than most places and it absolutely shows. We ordered fish tacos , sichuan fishbowl, sea of cheese and artichoke hearts. Total came out to $59 after tax which is kind of pricy not but not too bad. However the food lacked luster. The fish in the tacos was very bland and lacked flavor. All I could taste was the cabbage and other toppings. My wife said the same about the sichuan fish bowl. Very bland and lacking flavor. The sea of cheese would be great if it weren't for the Smokey taste to it. And the fried artichoke hearts were actually very good and I would buy those again! I hate leaving a 2 star review but the taste was just not there imo for how expensive the food was. For my birthday my wife set the agenda for dinner. However she was not able to get reservations at her choice and asked if I had anywhere in mind. And yes I did. I generally like to try places that I have never been before. And if they impress, they are added to my "I'll be back!" list. It has such an interesting menu, and for a special meal I want to take the opportunity to over order a bit and try several items. When we arrived we were asked if we wanted to join in trivia as that would make just enough teams. Certainly yes, more birthday fun! Our waitress was very helpful explaining any dish that we asked about, and also made some recommendations. Pickled Egg - classic beet style, a bit too spicy for my sweetie but just right for me. Gorgonzola Beignets (fresh sheet) - generous serving, however some of them a bit over done. Monkfish Bucatini (fresh sheet) - excellently prepared, I love bucatini and there was enough to end up taking about half home. Shrimp Po Boy - the reason that I had been wanting to try Fish On! and our waitresses personal recommendation. Terrific sandwich prepared with larger fried shrimp. My favorite of the evening. Well prepared fries on the side. Trivia was engaging and fun. We did not win, edged out by one point. But had a blast playing along. No. Either the oil is old or it's twice fried fish, meaning it looks to me like they fried it in advance and then re-fried it upon order. Fish was burnt and rubbery. It looked burnt, smelled burnt, and was just limp and rubbery. Went on a Wednesday night 5:15pm. The coleslaw had a funny smell to it. The pickle eggs weren't anything special. Fries were good. If you're going to charge $17 for fish and chips in Rathdrum... you have to do way better than Re-fried fish. Service was promptly and friendly. The other review sounds like our experience. Maybe it's the same cook. We live 2.7 miles away and was hoping it would be good but won't bother to try it again. read more

My wife, son and I decided to try a new spot. Unfortunately, we were not pleased. Let's start with the positive. The place has a cool vibe. The service was good. The fries are great. Ok, the bad, the hush puppies came out almost black, like the fryer oil hasn't been filtered in days. My wife ordered the catfish po boy, when the sandwich arrived the bread was all mushy from the watered down mayonnaise, and the fried catfish was black as well, fish tasted like mud, very musky. I had shrimp tacos, while they looked like they were going to be good, they were very bland and all you really tasted was the cabbage. The price was very high for the quality of food. We really wanted to like this place, considering it's in our hometown and close. Unfortunately, I don't think we will be back. Trying to help with some constructive criticism. I must have stopped for lunch at Fish On on the wrong day. After seeing the good reviews it has on Yelp, I decided to give it a try. I arrived right before the lunch hour on a weekday and ordered the ahi poke bowl to go. What they got right: the service was fast and friendly. The atmosphere is a cross between restaurant and bar. and it's clean. As I waited for my order, I hoped the ahi poke bowl would be great, so I could make Fish On a regular lunch place when I'm in Rathdrum. Unfortunately, that won't happen. What didn't work: The ahi was not very fresh (on the verge of being slimy), and the chopped avocados were brown and mushy. The cucumbers were limp. Since I was there before the lunch rush, I can only guess that they used the ahi poke bowl fixings from the day before. That's what it tasted like. Sadly, I won't be back. read more

The Poke Bowl, which I order with all veggies, no rice, is my go-to favorite while my husband is hooked on the Sichuan Fishbowl, and we both go for the salmon club and fish and chips -- but we haven't had anything here that we didn't like! They serve a nice selction of craft beers as well as standards and even pour a nice pinot grigo to complement the food. We've never had dessert as the portions are robust. My husband and I ate at Fish On today. We wanted so badly to love it, in as much as it's local, and we want to see small restaurants survive. However, we won't be going back. Though the restaurant itself is cute inside, there was loud music playing and people banging on a pinball machine. So it was not conducive to a peaceful meal. As for the food, I had fish and chips. The fish tasted fresh, but the batter was extremely salty. The coleslaw was tasty, though was plopped right on top of the french fries. So it was impossible to just enjoy the coleslaw without having to eat coleslaw and french fries in the same bite. It was served in a basket on top of paper, which made sense for fish and chips. Neither lemon nor malt vinegar were served or offered to go with the fish. My husband had jambalaya. It was incredibly disappointing. It was outrageously expensive at $15 for what turned out to be about a cup of jambalaya in a Chinese to-go paper rice container. It was difficult to eat and totally unappetizing. We walked out after eating about half the quantity. For the prices they are charging one would think they would serve a bowl of jambalaya in a bowl, not a paper to-go rice container. You would also think it would be an amount that would be reasonable for the price. I think this place has delusions of grandeur. My husband had water I had iced tea which tasted like water. There was absolutely no tea taste to the iced tea at all and they charged $3 for something that should have been half that. I realize expenses are high for businesses, restaurant businesses especially. However, many patrons are also struggling to be able to go to these restaurants to keep them in business. Restaurants must strike a compromise between gouging customers and charging what's reasonable so that they can stay in business. Bottom Line: We felt that this place was way over priced and had terrible, terrible presentation. read more

Incredible new restaurant in Rathdrum. The chef really knew what he was doing when designing the menu here and the owners are some of the greatest people in town.
