Craving Mexican food after the Great West Gym Fest and decided to just drive around this cute neighborhood to see what we find. Right when we were about to give up and settle for American, we bumped into this spot that was empty on a Sunday night. We walked in on the bar side but went through a small walkway that took us to the restaurant side. The young, bus boy sat us and poured drinks. If I could give this place no stars I would. Such a horrible experience. We waited a few to be seated. Well its during the Covid so I thought be patient . Well after 30 min of waiting for a menu. We watched a 4 top table walk out and 4- 2 top tables around us get served. It took us 40 min to just get drinks. We had 6 in our party.We waited and waited to have our order taken. Well needless to say I had it and asked for our check for the drinks we ordered. That took forever. I walked up and asked for the Manager. Well I got a big attitude from a gal that was working the bar. She used foul language and told me she was short handed and that they are working well bad words and I should be lucky that I could even come in to be seated. Took the family out for taco Tuesday. Had a great time the staff was super friendly and great with the kids. The service was very prompt and courteous. I had one of the carne Asada burritos and it was very good. The ratio of steak and rice to beans was good and the vegetables were cooked nicely with still a little bit of bite to them. The plate was hot so my food stayed warm until I finished and the cheese and toppings were flavorful. The kids all had tacos and finished them up pretty quick. I had a Modelo on tap and it was warm, maybe that's how they drink it in Mexico lol. I really enjoyed the place and would eat there again. read more

Underrated. That's the word that should describe Toro Viejo. My wife, our two friends, and I tried out Toro Viejo on a weeknight this week, and the reviews don't do it justice. Our server Castor had great suggestions for us that we wouldn't have otherwise tried--and even handcrafted a custom drink for our pregnant friend that matched our boozy sangria! I had a hunger for Mexican food while here in Idaho yes Idaho. I have passed by this restaurant many times while here and decided to go in today. I ordered the chicken mole with black beans and Mexican rice with a side of guacamole. I just wanted some water and they brought me some complimentary chips and salsa. well the chips weren't warm the salsa was okay and I went through about half the bowl and I drank a full glass of water... unfortunately that is all that I had. I was there for almost a half an hour and still had not received my food. As I walked out I let the waitress know to cancel my order... the waitress responded that she was sorry but they are very busy. Contrary to other reviews that gave this restaurant one star, our experience of wait staff was very friendly and attentive. However, there were only a couple patrons eating at the restaurant on a Friday night and now I know why. The ambiance is tired, and the restaurant is old, outdated, and the overhead music is too loud. I could overlook those things had it not been for the extremely lackluster food. I ordered the 3 item combination with cheese enchilada, chicken taco and shredded beef tostada. All were some of, if not the worst, I've ever had. The enchilada hardly had any cheese, I've had better tacos at Taco Bell, and the tostada was the "taco" except laid flat on the plate with a weird tomato wedge in it. I like supporting local businesses, but I will not be going back and worst of all, I will be telling others not to go there as well. This is to date the worst meal I've had in Idaho. read more

Okay geez wow! Have you tried the new Kylie Sweet Pork Burrito??? I was in a few weeks ago and asked Junior if he had a sweet pork burrito?? My son Kylie loves sweet pork burritos!... He admitted he did not... Apparently I motivated him because the next time I saw him, he said hey! I was thinking about it and I invented a very special sweet pork burrito for your son! Well, of course I felt obligated to try one. So I immediately ordered one of his special sweet pork burritos. I took it home to my son, Kylie, and he said "it was absolutely the worst Burrito I ever ate." (please see the picture!!) Was able to grab a couple of bites before my son Kylie devoured it... it's so sweet! But then it kicks you a little bit! I really can't describe it! It is definitely one of the best sweet pork burritos I've ever had! And I think Junior for his creativity! And I think my son Kylie for his inspiration! Next time you're at Toro Viejo, do yourself a favor and order the Kylie Sweet Pork Burrito! (Okayyyyy they probably won't name it after my boy)... You won't regret it! We ate at Toro Visio last night and the experience was unforgettable. Our waiter, Castor was very friendly and helpful. He suggested the appetizer platter to share as well as fajitas and Chile Colorado. The food came quickly and did not disappoint. We even noted that the chips and salsa were particularly tasty! Even though Castor was busy with other tables, he often came to check on us and see how we were enjoying our vacation in CDA. Lastly, the drinks... we tried a custom tropical tequila drink, sangria, and tequila shots. Let's just say we left relaxed and satisfied! read more

This is one of my family's favorites, we have eaten here too many time to count. Fast friendly services, relaxed atmosphere, and good food to boot. I get the steak or chicken burrito de fajita usually or the burro del campo (a chile relleno wrapped in burrito fixens) yummy. EVERYTHING ELSE I have eaten has been good as well. homemade chips and salsa are almost always good, been off a time or two; but who knows oil wasn't hot enough or something (only 1 or 2 times out of 100ish) Good value for the money Give the place a facelift and clean some stuff up I'd give you a 5-star. read more

Decided a repeat visit was in order and this time we got their during the lunch hour, regular menu and lunch menu available. I had 2 chicken enchiladas with xtra sauce and my boyfriend enjoyed the carnitas. I like my food to be 'burn your tongue' hot so I sent it back and it was returned exactly as I liked. The chips were warm and crispy and the beers were ice cold. There was a different server yesterday and at first appearance he seems a bit rough around the edges as he is a bigger man with tattoos on the neck... Another example as to why we should not judge a book by it's cover, he was AWESOME, polite and genuine. Pass on this one. I came here on a recommendation from a local and now my faith in his restaurant choices is seriously wavering. I should have known, it was 6:00 on a Friday night (aka prime time for dinner) everywhere else was busy with a wait list and Toro Viejo had open seating... They are clearly understaffed, a couple of the employees were working super hard to keep up with the (albeit small) workload they had, while others were pretty impartial to their coworkers' struggles. There was a large group sitting next to us whose kids were literally running circles around our table. And I get it, family restaurant, don't want to upset your biggest check of the night... But come on. The food took about 30 minutes to come out and wasn't anything to write home (or on the internet) about. I'll leave it at "rather average". I commend you if you actually read this long of a review after seeing two stars. You must really be trying to justify going to this place ;) Honestly, move on. We ate at the 2nd street location on August 5, 2021 and everything was terrible from the service, to the food, to the ambiance in the restaurant. My chicken taco salad was made of bagged iceberg lettuce, very little flavorless chicken, pre-shredded cheese from a bag, and rotten slices of avocado on top. The burrito my husband ordered and the kids meal our son had weren't good either. First time dining out and not leaving one cent for a tip, it was that bad. Have been going here for a very long time and was always great food. "WAS" is the past. Last Friday my friend and I stopped in. It took us a long time to be seated. Then it seemed like the waitress had an attitude. Was not really friendly, until the table of 8 showed up, about 15 minutes after us.Not only did they get friendly service, their food came before ours(we were a table of 2). The food quality has gone down. Where did the fresh tomatoes go?Portions were smaller, which most restaurants have gone to this. I'll be looking for a diffrent Mexican spot in the future. WORST SERVICE EVER! Amanda was a horrible waitress. She didn't bring anything we asked for in a timely manner including water. She barely said a word and I had to ask for my bill to pay then I had a $100 bill on the table for the bill and she never came back to pick it up then finally walks by and tosses my change in my hand without saying a word as she quickly walked past. Not a thank you or anything else. Pollo fundido was dry with processed cheese slices on top. Overly spicy and small portions. Hostess who finally brought water was more attentive than the waitress Amanda. Try hiring​ waitresses who actually seem to like their job and actually want to be there and do it.
