The sweetest little family owned spot. Food was tasty and the vibes were amazing. Highly recommend!

Service was top notch, food was 5 stars, ambiance was perfect, it's a nice little cozy hole in the wall. Highly recommended! Trust me you won't regret it. Prices are almost unheard of for this area too! Can't wait to come back again!

My ABSOLUTE favorite NO FRILLS Sushi restaurant. Tom and Wendy are WONDERFUL, and their service and attentiveness to their customers outstanding. The fish is always fresh, ample cuts. Being a "Bento" I don't typically eat Bento so I can't say much about their bento boxes; but my Mom loves em. Of course she does, she was married to one. haa ha haah All kidding aside, Fish-n-Gari is a solid traditional Sushi restaurant, prices are reasonble, service is great, and fish is DELICIOUS. My fave is the Sukura roll, Nigiri Sake, and Butterfish. I'm pretty picky, so I stick with what I know and what I know is, when I'm looking for some great reasonbly priced FRESH Sushi - Fish-n-Gari is my go to place and it should be yours too. :^)

Super cute spot, they opened up early for me. A little hole in the wall. The hot tea is amazing!

A great local sushi spot! Food: we ordered two dinner combinations. highlights were the spicy tuna roll, hamachi maki, chicken katsu, and chicken teriyaki. fish was fresh, portions were generous, and everything was delicious! Service: fantastic! we ordered take out online, but when we arrived our order wasn't ready yet. the kind folks there offered us hot tea while we waited Ambiance: such a cute spot! we'll be back to dine in soon

This is my go-to sushi spot! It may be basic, but I love their golden california roll and unagi maki. Each maki roll ranges from $5-$7 which is an absolute steal, and they are so delicious! Their signature rolls are also very filling at a great price. The owner is a very sweet and friendly man, and the restaurant is cozy and clean. I highly recommend dropping by if you're in the area!

Great Neighborhood Sushi Spot! Over a year ago (pre pandemic), towards the tail end of a long walk, I found myself starving and right in front of Fish N Gari on Polk. I walked in and had me a quick lunch which I enjoyed, but then I forgot all about the place because it is not near where I live. Then months later, during the pandemic, I was walking by again and I remembered about the good experience I had, and decided to get a to-go meal. I love Nigiri sushi and theirs I enjoyed very much, but Fish N Gari also offers a great selection of rolls. My favorit so far is the Red Dragon Roll, but if you are a daring eater, I suggest you try a few of their less "traditional" rolls; you will be pleasantly surprised. A few of my favorits are Snow Beauty Roll, Lazy Summer Roll and Romeo and Juliet Roll.

I live really close to this restaurant so I would definitely come back because of the convenience. I loved the rolls and I think they're reasonably priced but I did notice that they're typically smaller than rolls you see at other restaurants. I wouldn't mind paying a little bit more to get the larger sized rolls. The only reason why I knocked off a star was because of how small the rolls are. I don't think the rolls are that filling and I just want more!

Since moving back to SF last month I've been making my way through the neighborhood to find the spots I want to frequent. This is a spot worth frequenting. The gist: amazingly reasonable prices, quality service (my service here exceeded many other restaurants; tea refill without request, attentiveness to every detail); the food is carefully prepared and still comes out speedily; complimentary hot tea is set out immediately upon seating; unobtrusive but also immersive (there was a basketball game on the flatscreen above the sushi bar and other patrons with more athletic spirit than I have were engaging in hearty conversation about the coaches). The spicy tuna hand roll came out super fast and was plump with fresh and delicious spicy tuna; the humble avocado and cucumber roll was expertly presented. The maguro nigiri was buttery and fresh, and the green salad (for the sake of feeling culinarily virtuous), is dressed in a soy-based dressing and is the size of a huge bowl with avocado and nice cuts of cucumber. I really think in this neighborhood there are a lot of overrated restaurants with hype and this one is not that. They are a traditional and honest business model serving a customer's needs at a wonderful return. I'll be back here soon!

It was my first time here. The lady who is working there immediately brought hot tea but no pot to refill after that I ordered Chicken Teriyaki, the chicken was old made, served cold. I felt like it was frozen and they warmed it up but not thoroughly. She even brought the bill before I finish my food and ask for it. Very disappointed.

2 party platters, make sure to call a few hours ahead so they can prepare!
    Cindy X.

Ordered 2 party platters to go for a birthday and everyone loved it! The party platter came with various cuts of sashimi, nigiri, and rolls. The salmon sashimi my personal favorite, it was super fresh and reminded me my trip to Japan. The presentation was also really nice, I'll be ordering again for future gatherings!

The first time I came here, I got the strawberry matcha latte with my friends. We ordered it via delivery on DoorDash, and I'm not sure if it's just the whole delivery part, but I could not taste any part of the strawberry! It just tasted like regular cream on top. Typically I'm more of a coffee person than matcha, so I'm not a great judge in whether this was good matcha or not. But I guess it did taste ok in my opinion. The funny thing is, my coworker also said the same thing when she ordered the strawberry matcha latte a separate time! Disappointing. A separate time, we also ordered from them via delivery. This time I was eager to try their food items instead, since they have a pretty interesting selection, like those cake sandwiches and various Japanese items. I got the spam masubi, which I thought would be a solid choice. It did arrive warm, but the slice of spam that was in the masubi was so thin! It was the thinnest piece of spam I had ever gotten, and I've gotten spam masubis at a variety of places including ABC stores and other places in Hawaii, and even various stores in the States. The rice was okay, some brown rice thing with seasoning, that was decent but not my preferred white rice. Overall my two times here have been disappointing. I will really never line up for this place in person, nor will I understand why people do.

The restaurant has tables in both the front dining area and a quieter back section that feels more private. You order through a tablet attached to the table, which also tracks your remaining AYCE time. Service was extremely efficient and dishes came out surprisingly fast. Some items stood out more than others, but overall we definitely got our money's worth. For around $50 including tax and tip, it's a pretty reasonable AYCE sushi option in SF.

What we ordered: + San Ten Mori (assorted sashimi) [4/5]: The highlight of our meal was the yuzu wasabi that came with the salmon + amberjack in this set. It was sooo delicious and spicy. The fish were plated beautifully, and the quality was pretty good. + Shungiku Kama Sarada (chrysanthemum greens & duck breast) [6/5 - would recommend]: WOW. I was so pleasantly surprised by how fresh, crunchy, and acidic this salad was. The greens are amazing. On top of that, the duck breast was so tender and delicious-- I just wish the dish came with a few more slices. + Chicken Oyster [4/5]: I really loved how juicy this was. I normally don't like chicken because of how dry it is, but this was a great skewer. I wish the skin was a little less burnt. The chicken was also so thick that while the outside was juicy, the inside was a little drier. + King Trumpet [4/5]: Wow! These looked amazing when they arrived. I thought the flavor was great but the texture was a bit rubbery. + Kama Tama Udon (carbonara) [4.5/5]: Delicious! I couldn't stop eating this udon slathered in amazing thick sauce. + Chiizu Tori Katsu [4/5]: This was sooo good. I wish the cheese ratio was 3x as much, but the flavor and tenderness of the katsu is delicious. Huge props to Rintaro; my Resy reservation was initially cancelled due to an accident in booking, but the staff was so friendly and went above & beyond to help me get my reservation reinstated at a similar time.

We shared the yaki onigiri, chicken karaage, original mushroom potstickers, katsu curry rice, and the mentaiko spaghetti. The chicken karaage was also pretty good and came with a delicious spicy mayo, though the chicken wasn't as warm as I'd hoped. Yaki onigiri was good as well, the soy sauce flavored rice had good flavor but I personally would've preferred a filling inside. Original mushroom potstickers and katsu curry rice were both skips from me. The potstickers didn't have that much flavor to me, and they were really flimsy and fell apart upon picking up. I had higher expectations for the katsu curry rice as well but maybe it was an off day, as the chicken was dry and stringy and the curry didn't have the classic rich/deep flavor I was expecting. Overall glad I got to try Bon, Nene once! Definitely worth trying the mentaiko spaghetti here.
