I have always loved this place. The staff is always friendly and the orders come out quick! The prices are reasonable for the times. There is a parking lot outside. I will start this by saying I'm overweight. Me and my friend went to get him food Everything was fine, my friend ordered a pound of fish, two fries, and a half pound scallops for himself and of course to share with the animals . ( I don't eat seafood) Then came the issue. The man behind the counter looked at me and then went to the cooler grabbed the filet of fish and showed my friend that it was just one piece of fish. He proceeded to ask my friend if he was sure that was enough. I didn't think anything of it at first I even said hey that's a big piece of fish. Then my friend decided a few minutes later he did want an extra piece and another fry. So I let the man know so he could cook it Then it was finally ready and to cash out when I started to hear the man and another customer talking and I could tell it was based on the fact of how much food and fish we got. The customer proceeds to tell the man behind the counter that he thinks one piece of fish is good for 2 people it's a pretty big piece of fish. Then the man behind the counter proceeded to check us out but responds with yeah usually it is but when your... And he looks at me and then the guy he was talking too. ( He was signaling my weight, b/c I am a bigger girl) then laughs a little. Me and my friend walk away he looks at me again and then says something in another language I'm guessing the word for fat because they look at me one last time and laugh. Yeah that was an experience. And not a good one. You are a worker at a food establishment I'm sure I'm not the only overweight person who visits it. So if you are talking about me like that then I'm sure others are talked about as well and that's disgusting and disrespectful. Especially when we are paying customers. Not to mention it's not cheap. I went to the car and cried because I wasn't expecting that to happen, my friend didn't realize it happened but when I told him he was very upset. I'm not even eating the food but even if I was why does it matter how much we get. We went there to get some food and have a good night. Not be judged and feel like total crap after leaving out the door. So please be aware if you do go to that fish cove because they are judgemental and will talk about you in front of everyone and to other customers. They are not a nice group of people. This is the OG of the fish coves! I've been coming here for years even though it's not close to my house. Whenever I'm craving fish this is where I come. On a recent Friday at lunch time my husband & I visited. Despite it being super busy the line moved along. I love their big scallops so I got 1/2 pound of those and my husband got the haddock with a side of potato salad. They have a few seats available to eat in so we were lucky to snag those. Moving back to the area I couldn't be more grateful to be just up the block from Fish Cove. The new layout and design of the space is very functional, the staff is always incredible double checking you've gotten what you need before heading to check out. I'd note it is Cash only. We always get 2 fish sandwiches and 2 fries. Sometimes we'll shake it up and get an order of calamari, or shrimp, but their fried mushroom, zucchini, and onion rings are excellent sides. I really liked the mushrooms a lot, very juicy and flavorful! Thank you Fish Cove for always being kind and giving solid portions. Don't change a thing! read more

I have always known Joe as a little girl, our family always went there every Friday for haddock back when it was in the shop city mall. Now owns I believe that beautiful place next to that mall When I go to that area I always order their haddock, fried clams, and scallops fries n more...soooo delicious and always feel like family when I walk in. They are wonderful when it comes to service and the breading is the bomb that they apply to their seafood is yummy too! read more

I stopped in mainly out of nostalgia: I used to go to Fish Cove a lot when I worked at Shop City, 40 years ago. It was nice to see that they are still the non-nonsense place where you can get really fresh and tasty seafood. I had fried shrimp and fries, and they were amazing, right out of the fryer. The shrimp were large and a bit sweet, and the breading was golden brown with just the right crunch. I'm definitely adding this to my short list of places to get a special treat. read more

We came in a little bit ago on a Friday and definitely enjoyed our fish. It seems to me that every time we come here their fried fish has always been on point. It's also really nice that their staff is friendly. Almost every time you go into a fried fish place, its always push push push push rush rush. Here, they are much more chill which is definitely appreciated. The pricing is pretty standard with all of the fried fish places here in Syracuse. I saw a couple of people mention cold fish, but that has never happened when I came. I really always get fish or fish and fries, so I can't really comment on anything else that they serve. They have a really tasty and fresh tasting tartar sauce though. I recommend coming here or Bayberry for your fried fish. read more

For lunch, a small fry and a fish sandwich are my pick! The fish is always flaky and tender and with so little grease you will wonder if it was really fried. Been here a couple of times: the food is pretty good, but it's ALWAYS cold. They make the fish sandwiches ahead of time, then set them out on the counter. That's not the way anybody wants a fish sandwich. To be fair, though, the fish is flaky, tender and tastes fresh; their french fries are just the way I like them, lightly crisp and browned. If only these sandwiches were hot, I could recommend this place to anyone. read more

Only shop here if you feel like supplying a racist's paycheck. I worked here briefly, and this has got to be the most unprofessional business I have ever seen. There are many problems to address, but I will start with the first and most unfortunate: the allowance of racial slurs, jokes, and comments about black customers entering the store. In the kitchen, I heard comments made up about strangers, carefully kept out of earshot from them as to not actually offend anyone, or lose business. I was probably the only non-italian person working here. Most of the customer base is old white italians that know the store owner. I noticed that the owner seemed to be friendly with these guys, yet hesitant to deal with non-italian customers. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if I was hired because my name is Vince, because the second anyone who worked there got a look at me, I got conceited looks and a cold shoulder from them. Speaking of which, I was not greeted with anyone's introduction, a description of how the shop worked, any rules or regulations, or practices. Instead I was given a few tasks to do, which as an obedient and swift person, I am typically able to handle. However, none of the people giving orders could actually agree upon what the correct method for any of these tasks was, nor could they agree upon what I should be doing. At few dozen times I was told: "Oh ignore X for now, just focus on this", "Hey, you're not paying enough attention to X" or "What do you mean nobody told you how to do X?", "Well don't listen to him, he's an idiot" and "Do X, Y, and Z for me", "You really need to get to Z now", "Well, I don't want you to do Y first, forget what I said" etc... "After you do this, ask me what to do next" *No response after many prompts* The fact of the matter is, there is no communication here. There is no courtesy here. I don't expect to be treated like royalty as an entry level employee, but typical human social practices would be nice. Such as, I expect someone to acknowledge my existence, or return a sentence when I speak to someone, and I expect that the exchanges be thoughtful or informative in nature and related to work, and not petty put-downs and slander. Now, say my expectations weren't appropriate, you'd still think that if I'm willing to learn more about my job, and I'm striving to do good work, then someone would address me properly and speak to me in a productive manner. But as I said, there is no communication here, and there are no rules. The one general consensus between all of my co-workers though, was that quality doesn't matter in the face of speed of service. That means if you're filling cups of condiments, and you've got X sauce all over the spoon you're about to use to fill y servings, that's fine, because we have enough old white guys coming back here to keep us rich for ages. I had a woman stand in front of me and order something I was about to fill, so I attempted to clean off a spoon or tartar sauce. The boss comes over to me, looks at both of us, and says "never mind cleaning that off, just hurry up and serve her." The womans eyes go wide. I ask her if she wants tartar sauce in her serving, and of course, she says "Hell no." I apologize for her and clean everything off despite the boss's orders. There were incidents like this all day: not having the correct utensils, not having ingredients to serve customers, essentially a lot of communication errors that led to customers waiting on us. Fish Cove is simply not run on the up n' up. It even took my boss 15 minutes to get around to explaining to me that I was getting paid under the table after telling me my paycheck was on the way. I don't know how much of this stuff becomes aware to the customers, but as a customer myself, I also wasn't impressed. The food. I guess it's okay as far as small dumpey specialty fry shops go, but overall is there much worth getting? As a kid I enjoyed the food a few times, but after one serving as an adult, I remembered why I quit eating here ages ago. First off, a lot of the buns we give the fish out on are still partially frozen. Needless to say, when you ask about it, you also don't get answers. Many people were shooed off about this and told their sandwich overall was still fine because the fish was good. Except your sandwich isn't fine if it's got frozen parts. Alright, lets say you skipped the fried fish sandwich and went baked. There still isn't much of a meal here to go for, because you can get... fried mushrooms, fried potatoes or more fried seafood to go with it. I'm no hippy, but this stuff was really hard to stomach. There is a threshold somewhere, after which passing, food goes from delicious, to too rich and oily, to disgusting. If you must have a fish sandwich and chowder, go to Varsity on Friday. You'll get a fat fillet, pickle, sauces, and a side to go with it. read more
