Stopped in to Fish Cove at about 3:30 on Ash Wednesday. Surprisingly not as busy as I expected. This spot is a little bit confusing as to where to order what if it's your first time but the staff was super friendly and helpful. I had the fried haddock, fries, and macaroni salad. They fry the fish to order so you'll have to just hang around and wait a little bit-but it's worth it. The fish was huge and you could taste how fresh it was. Perhaps most surprising was the fact that it wasn't greasy AT ALL. Awesome stuff. The fries and Mac salad were fine but nothing to rave about. Total for this large dinner was 13 dollars. Very reasonable for what I consider an exceptional fish fry. Careful on Friday nights even out of the Lenten season. We knew from other reviews that the place could be bedlam, so got in before the Friday supper rush on July 25, 2025. It was our first visit, and we were greeted warmly and were given great service. I got the fish dinner for myself and it was on a par with the best I've had outside New England, and the most generous portion I've gotten anywhere in many years. My wife and a good friend got sea scallop dinners that were likewise superb, and the coleslaw and mac salad were delicious. Often times we associate fish and Fridays. This was one of those times. Stopped in on Friday to pick up a fish dinner at about 5 PM. I did not connect the fact that it was also the first Friday of Lent. Though the place was very crowded and the quarters were tight, the staff was very well coordinated in getting your order in and then you out the door. I thought I would be waiting quite a long time but in less than 10 minutes I was out the door with my fish dinner. A fish dinner for $12.99 might make one think you're getting cheated out somewhere. Not the case here. There was plenty of fish that was fried to perfection. I know, "fried" but it wasn't heavily fried and the batter wasn't over the top heavy. The fish dinner comes with 2 side options. I chose the coleslaw and macaroni salad. The coleslaw is finally minced with a strong pineapple flavor that I love. It's very sweet tasting. Not a lot to say about Fish Cove, other than it's the best fried haddock I've ever had. It's a pretty straightforward setup, I was actually surprised they took my debit card the first time I came in. It's a little disorienting, especially because it's always super crowded. There's usually one guy towards the middle of the line who takes food orders. Every time I'm here, I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't know all 10 middle aged fry cooks by name. We used to drive up from Pulaski just to come here, or the location in North Syracuse. The only difference we saw between our old visits and going back this month was that they don't seem to have Mac & Cheese, which I always called my favorite from anywhere. They also used to have some kind of baked fish casserole dishes ready to go. I don't remember specifically what it was, but I didn't see it in either location when coming back this month for the first time since 2019. Anyway, I'm out of the loop and I'm guessing they no longer serve those things. If I'm wrong and you do see either available, you have to try them. We usually get a fried haddock dinner or sandwich for each of us, then a pound of deep fried clams or any kind of scallops to share. The salads are average. I think the mac salad is too sweet, so if anything we'll go for the potato salad or coleslaw. We got the beans once, and they were the absolute worst baked beans we'd ever tried. I'm willing to write this off as personal preference, as my family does baked beans in a very particular way. They also sell uncooked fish by the pound. I've heard good things about the quality, but never bought from them myself. I knew they had haddock and shrimp, but was surprised to see things like salmon and red snapper in the cooler. Like I said though, there's not a lot of language you can pour into a good fried fish meal. Bought two fish dinners this afternoon with fries and cole slaw. Came too $32 and some cents. My favorite restaurant in Syracuse so I over tipped and just handed them three $20s and told them too keep it. He asked me if I was sure and told him yes I love this place and I'm happy too TIP that much! Unfortunately the fries were rock hard, the fish was overcooked. Two things that unfortunately happen from time to time in restaurants. The real problem is the cole slaw was rancid! Very very past! I called fish cove and spoke with a lady that told me she was the owner. She told me too bring it back and get a refund. So I did. Two things you should know are; I don't drive, I live three miles away. I was so disappointed and actually concerned that I walked back with what was left of my two meals. I didn't expect a full refund and didn't get it. She kindly refunded the money for one of the fish fry's ($15) so I took a $45 hit. Not too bad I over tipped not there problem. My big problem is she smells the cole slaw that was rancid, makes a face, throws them in the garbage and continues too tell me it was just made! Absolute lie! I've been in the restaurant business all my life and I've rarely seen such dishonesty! What a bunch of shit! Never going back! After some research I believe her name is Tracy. Fish sandwich was good and it was a decent portion for lunch. I decided to try the Fish Cove again after work one day. After driving around its easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. They have a small sign on the front road and its only a small spot in a strip mall. Tried the fish sandwich meal (with fries), a fish dinner, and a pound of fried shrimp. Based on prices I would have just purchased the fish sandwich meal. I didnt get the fish per pound but I suspect it would be the best value. The fish has a light batter and is not overcooked. Some reviews say its undercooked but I felt it was good. The shrimp still have tails so be careful and dont pop the hole thing in your mouth. Sides were nothing special. Fries are recommended as the beans, slaw, and potato salad were not very good. But I wasnt expecting any of that from a fish place. Will I go again? Of course I will stop by and get take out. I love seafood. There are a few seats but not a place to have a long sitdown meal. I enjoy eating at places that have weathered the battle of time. read more

Wow! What a disappointed after last time. I went for the most popular meal they do which is the Fried Fish Sandwich. All I can say is that it was like eating a fried cardboard sandwich. The flavour and the texture made it seem as though the fish was frozen. I'm not an expert but this would be my guess. Even the bread was tasteless. Used to eat here often but haven't been in about 4 months just because I've been busy. Went to their Facebook page today and oyster dinner said $10.49, what I've been paying for about 4 years here. I was charged $12.99 and I told them the price on the Facebook page says $10.49. I told the cashier not to worry about it but he told the owner. The manager or owner, not sure (a woman) came out right away with money and apologized so sincerely for an old picture of the menu on the website that she isn't sure how to delete. She gave me $2 which I tried to return because the food here is definitely worth the price. She wouldn't take the two dollars and even asked me how to delete the old menu pic on the website - what a sweetheart!! The food: as I said, I've been eating here for over 4 years as I live around the corner. It's fantastic! I've had the scallops, fish and oyster dinners. Not crazy about the fried chicken as I prefer KFC, but my daughter likes it. Once had burnt oyster dinner so they were like rocks, but all the other 20 or so times I've eaten here have been fantastic! Sweet macaroni salad and coleslaw salad with pineapples in it. Fish dinners were great, nice crispy breading and well prepared flakey white fish. I assume it's Haddock. The menu says "fish". I personally loved the fries. True thick they came from the freezer but are crispy fries. The cabbage salad was average, macaroni salad was not very good. The seafood is the main attraction. The hubs got the fried Shrimp and declares he will get fish or clams next time, he wasn't impressed with them. They looked like your standard size fried shrimp. If I wasn't already inhaling a giant bowl of clam chowder I would have tried one. The chowder is great, truly authentic and FULL of black pepper. It was fresh, hot and cleared my sinuses. Ordering is a little challenging, the line wraps around the long narrow store and people are shoulder to shoulder, but I think we will be back again. The fish fry was good and everyone was happy. Over 30 years ago I ate here every week during the weekly farmer's market they had in the parking lot (grew up on a local produce farm). I now live in Florida, and during a recent visit to see family I was happy to see they are still in business! The fish was just as tasty as I remembered. The fries were kinda soggy tasting though, and didn't appear to be fully cooked. And the potato salad- yuck! One small taste and it went in the garbage. Others in my party also had the cole slaw, and said it was equally as gross. The one guy working there seemed very disengaged. I tried talking to him about the place (bc again I was super excited to visit here and see it still open, bringing back childhood memories), but he didn't even acknowledge I was even speaking. Lol. Oh well. It was cute that the containers were hand written on w markers and smiley faces to try to give it that "personal touch". Great local spot for fish fry! This place is take-out only. I've had their fried haddock, fried shrimp and fries. All very delicious and fresh to order! I would of preferred the haddock to be skinless when fried but it was huge, bigger than my plate! The fried shrimp are large and meaty. The fries have a nice crispy beer-battered texture. They always have a line out the door and it moves pretty fast. On Fridays during Lent, they have a cop directing traffic in and out of their parking lot. Not pleased after today. I ordered the fish sandwich lunch special, but only got a fish sandwich (no fries). I had to get back to work and couldn't wait longer, so I just had to take the sandwich and go. I ended up paying more for less food. The worst part is that it was to-go, and the sandwich was just loosely wrapped in paper and thrown in a brown paper bag... no container. By the time I got to the office 5 minutes later, the brown bag was saturated through with grease (which got on and ruined my pants) and the sandwich was completely collapsed into an inedible pile of bread, fried fish, and lettuce. It is too bad, because the sandwich would have been good, but all I got to do was eat the fish with a fork. I wish I could post a picture.... it was ridiculous. Just a terrible way to serve a to -go lunch, esp after making the wrong order. Oh, and the tarter sauce they gave was just cheap packets that tasted like mayo, not their good homemade one in the tub.
