When you walk in, you're surrounded by fresh fish on ice and fresh swimming fish under your feet since there's a tank set into the floor. I had cod which was line-caught and the freshest I've tasted, but the menu also boasts prawn and chorizo kebabs and wild sea trout as well as spinach and ceasar salad alongside classics such as mushy peas. You can sit inside and you will get very efficient and friendly table service, and they have a license for beers and wine. I used to live locally to The Fish Club, which was dangerous for such a big seafood fan as myself. My boyfriend and I would often stop by either after work, before a night out or even in our PJs to grab a take away. We were The Fish Club's biggest fans! This place boasts the best fish and chips in London. Having the best fish and chips in London is some statement but, in this case, it's pretty much true! The beer battered coley fillet is light, crispy and succulent. The chips are chunky and moist. The best thing about getting fish and chips here is also the homemade mayonnaise and saffron aioli. If you want to stray for the norm and try something a little different, I highly recommend the yellow fin tuna stake. They always cook this to perfection. There are also an array of tasty seafood starters such as the oysters that taste fresh from the sea and the potted shrimp. The staff are really helpful. If you are a first timer, they'll happily take you through the menu and guide you to the right choice. If you are ever around St. John's Hill, The Fish Club is a must. I'm torn over Fish Club. On the one hand, I thoroughly enjoyed my grilled coley with sweet potato chips and salsa verde. On the other hand, this is NOT fish and chips, in my opinion. Do I rate it was a 'posh' chippie, or do I rate it as a damn good fish restaurant? If I'm rating it as a regular chippie, it would probably get three stars. Robert D got battered haddock, regular chips and mushy peas, and everything tasted pretty good, I'll admit. Just not good enough to warrant its high price tag. If I'm rating it as a gastro-chippie, it would probably get five stars. The fish was fresh and grilled deliciously. I saw someone at the raw counter shucking oysters. You could choose grilled vegetables if you wanted to forgo ordering a side item from the tuber family altogether. And it would seem Fish Club has taken yellowfin tuna off its menu (even though it is delicious) because of its commitment to serve sustainable fish. So I'm striking a middle ground and giving Fish Club four stars. The service was really friendly and affable. I ate a really good and filling fish dinner and washed it all down with an Asahi, Fish Club's 'run of the mill' beer on the menu. Let's get this straight: this is pricey. I love a bit of fish and potato but still... Club's not your traditional 'spit 'n' sawdust' British chippie, the price of food and location of the establishment make this all but impossible. This is what I'd call a nicerestaurant that happens to sell fish and chips, rather than a fish and chip shop. It's all fresh with affable, respectful service and a welcome leaning towards coley rather than cod. I always enjoy the grilled mackerel or sardines with chips. I have done takeaway numerous times and in the past it was all about sitting down to eat with my two scamps. Now, I just phone in from Waterloo on the way home via The Junction and pick up within five minutes of walking through their door. It's a cute arrangement. So why do I keep going if the price is so uncomfortable? Well, the food is hearty and succulent, the chips well cooked and the variation of dishes on the menu is inventive. This is an excellent fish and chip shop. The service is friendly and I like the fact they cook the take-away fish to order so it always tastes freshly done, literally straight out of the fryer, and I don't mind the short wait. Good fluffy chunky chips and tartar sauce with just the right consistency and kick of capers. Plenty of other options to try as well if you want to branch out from haddock or coley (I also like the fish cakes). If you can manage something sweet for afters, they do delicious ice-cream - I tried the salted caramel the other day. WAY more than a chippy... I took some girlfriends here for a nattery supper and we were all blown away by so much about this place. A fresh fish counter brims with gleaming fish ready for inspection before making the first of some difficult choices... classic haddock, cod, and plaice were joined by bream, red gurnard, skate, mackerel, and countless other fishies. Fish chosen, we must next decide on batter, grill, fry or roast... phew! Then to the sides... handcut fat chips, french fries or sweet potato chips (one of each) and finally some salads - the beetroot & caper was superb and I have already tried the idea at home. We could have necked an oyster while we waited, which I would have done if it wouldn't have sickened my two pregnant companions. You order standing before the counter, with staff patiently detailing everything for you (they are immensely knowledgable), so there's no waiting at the table to order. Once ordered, we were shown to a table right at the back, in a sort of tiny indoor courtyard sparkling with fairylights. We were impressed that they put us in this private little spot even though the front tables were empty - none of that 'put the customers where they can be seen' attitude of a chain pizzeria. Our food arrived swiftly (but not too fast - this was all super-fresh) with a charming waiter. Batter crackled, chips were dipped in a very good tartare and the fish just melted in our mouths. Except the roasted skin of the red gurnard, which had been crisped to perfection. The bill was £60 for 4 of us - 4 mains, 3 sets of chips, 3 salads, 1 bottle of alright wine. They had some great-looking lunch options too which made me wish I worked nearby. We will be back. And this time I'll neck an oyster. (The cons... The wine was nothing to write home about and the loo needed a refurb but it was at least clean. Really not things which will ruin the place based on the excellence of everything else.) read more

Fish Club isn't your ordinary fish and chip shop, not by any means. No, it is fancy. The fanciest I have ever been to in fact. It is another sit down, but they do takeaway as well. The decor is very nice, especially the little running stream thing in the floor, the open fish counter with the catches all displayed on ice is novel and the laid back staff members give it a nice vibe. They have a blackboard detailing the days menu, but it is not your ordinary menu. Coley in place of Cod, Cuttlefish available to order (probably best not to try if you think it is a fish) and fancy beers on ice. Well, Asahi, but I like Asahi. Thing is, it isn't that great. I mean, its good and the concept is interesting and should be more popular, but you pay for the concept and it probably isn't really worth it. Fish and chips is meant to be a cheap filling meal and this is a not so cheap not quite as filling meal. An enjoyable meal at the time and I have returned since, but each time I come away feeling less satisfied. fishclub is great bc they have grilled or battered fish (you have to get battered of course) and they even have sustainable fish on their menu. another bonus is you can get mixed fries (sorry "chips") where they mix in sweet potato and regular potato. OH and they have maldon salt! read more

since the sad demise of the Codfather it's quite difficult to know where to get your fish fingers nowadays (and not the infernos sort).. So The Fish Club is your best bet northside, it's certainly a change of tuna from your usual chippy and i trout you'll find anything else like it around there I'm more of a traditionalist in these matters but i decided to put my heart and sole into my visit and screamed what the hallibut, lets give it a go! To be honest I codn't be any happier with what I had to eat although I don't want to go overboard with my plaice One thing though, some of the other guests were quite shellfish and loud but I managed not to loose my tempura with them and remained as clam as you like, in the end by the time i finished eating I was kippered, it was shrimply the best. The fish is what I would describe as a posh chippy - essentially when it comes down to it you go there for your fish and chips to takeaway, but what the fish club has done is very clever. It has a very eye catching street presence with an open front and very smart and posh exterior. As you enter its no different with a feeling you are entering an underwater cavern with blue mosaic tiles covering the walls and streams of water all over the place and shiny metal everywhere. And then you are met with a superb array of fish and people who are more than happy to help you make your choice. Overall it is a very pleasant experience and if you want to sit and eat you can do. However, even though the food is good, and they offer unusual extras (healthier alternatives to the usual chippy fare), the price in my opinion is way too high. They charge proper restaurant prices (which quite frankly for fish and chips is a little OTT) makig it a too expensive for the whole family. I've been coming here off and on for years (ever since they were called Sea Cow). A bit pricey for a bit of fish & chips, but the fish looks fresh and you can select your piece before they cook it. I have to say the staff are amazing and very friendly. A Clapham favourite ! read more
