This place is enraging and depressing. There are "designer" puppies for sale living in glass cages. Two puppies came up to me clearly starved for enrichment and attention. This is not a healthy environment for dogs to be in and it's inhumane. Dogs need constant socialization, enrichment, regular walks, and attention, and they can't get those things when they live in a cage. Places like this often get their dogs from puppy mills so please don't support them. I originally came to look at fish and noticed some of the fish were dead and some were eating the dead ones. read more

I'm honestly not sure why I keep giving this place another chance. There must be at least 150 dead fish (some clearly there for a long time) amongst all the tanks. This most recent horrible experience there ended with 3 fish dying within 24 (I've probably lost at least half of the fish I've gotten from here total). I don't have this problem with fish from anywhere else! Upon closer inspection I was horrified by what I saw. These fish had nasty orange-ish parasites under their mouths that were squirming around. Luckily I only added them to a quarantine tank and was able to remove parasites from the fish that did survive. Anyways, that's another $15 flushed down the toilet. Well over $100 total tossed away. I'd rather support a small business but I'll just have to go to the big pet stores for my fish. read more

If I could give a zero it would be even lower for a rating!! We purchased a puppy from the Fishbowl which ended up with a severe genetic disease that had to be put down! Mind you was a little over two years old. Just like all the other comments here they all seem to be true. The owner stopped replying to my emails at the end. All the other comments on this place seem consistent with what we went through. Also, come to find out my dog wasn't a pure breed dog after paying for an expensive DNA tests to be done! USDA puppies doesn't mean these are pure breed dogs and don't have to be even though they selling them for pure breed prices! Even doing homework on our dogs breeder it was flagged as a puppy mill. These puppies that are strictly for profit in mind, buyer beware!! read more

I go to the fishbowl when I'm in a pinch for time for my aquatic needs since it is very close to my house. The most stocked section is the aquatic section, they have various fresh and salt water fish and I always make time to peek in the aquariums before I leave. I highly recommend stopping my the porcupine puffers because they are friendly and energetic and love to play with passerbys. The service is quick and fairly friendly, though I wouldn't say the staff is warm and inviting. They do have small animals, reptiles, and dogs for sale but the selection is very limited and there are less choices for supplies there opposed to petco and PetSmart and the prices are pretty much the same as the large companies. read more

This place has a huge selection of both fresh and salt water fish, supplies, corals and .... The staff was very helpful and the prices, depending on what you were looking at ran from very reasonable to just a touch on the high side. Their salt water selection is really amazing. They even had a blue jelly fish. They have a lot of exotics as well as a great selection of corals. If you are a person that takes their 'fish' seriously, this is the place to go. We bought a gecko from the guys upstairs. Fishbowl had all the supplies we needed. We accidentally got a heat mat that was too big, and they let us come back and exchange it for a smaller one with no problem. Fish wise they seem to have a good variety and I personally didn't see any dead fish in the tanks. By far, better than a large chain. read more

YIKES. Sick puppies, DEAD fish just floating around, the cashier straight up ignored me... this is where warm feelings go to die

I'm kind of torn on this place to be honest. My first visit there, the employee working was on the phone (sounded like some aggressive customer service inquiry) and said he'd be right over to help us out. Nearly half hour later he came by to see what we needed. I was a little annoyed, but dismissed it because I understand that sometimes those types of calls are tedious and frustrating. We decided to pick up 4 serpae tetras, 3 Gouramis, and a synodontis catfish. When we told the guy what we wanted, he hastily grabbed a net, dipped it in the tank, and tossed the first fish he caught into the container. He did it first with the tetras, which I wrote off because they pretty much all look the same anyways. When I pointed out the opaline gouramis, he ran off so quick I didn't noticed he grabbed a giant fish with barely any pattern, whole they had some stunning opalines in there with lots of deep blue spots that were smaller that I definitely would have preferred. Also, when picking the catfish, which are known for their black and white spotted pattern, I specified I wanted a spotted one (some were solid colored). His response, naturally, was to scoop up an all brown one and toss it in the container and begin to walk away. That time I called him out immediately and chose a different one. Another thing that happened when picking fish; all of the gouramis were labeled 3 for $10. Me and my boyfriend openly discussed the price in front of the employee and made it really clear that we wanted to partake in that deal, and he showed us toward the fish that applied. I didn't notice until after we left that I was charged separately for all of the fish. When I called back to ask why, he told me it was because apparently only two of them were regular gouramis and one was a dwarf. If I had known, I would have chosen another one instead of the dwarf. No biggie!! Instead of telling us though, the employee decided to be greedy and keep his mouth shut so he could take advantage of charging us more. Lastly, the synodontis catfish I bought was belly up within 24 hours, when all of my parameters were perfect and all my other fish were thriving. When I found the dead synodontis the next morning, I immediately called the store. I told them about my negative experience (I spoke with a different employee) and about how I believe I deserve a replacement fish despite the strict no return policy. The gentleman on the phone told us to come to the store so we could work something out. When we got there, he informed us that the man we dealt with the day before was actually the OWNER, which was baffling. However, this employee (I regretfully can't remember his name) went above and beyond to make sure we left happy. He allowed us to exchange the synodontis for a new one that seemed a bit bigger and healthier than the first. I was very happy after that, but he went out of his way to fix our other issue, and offered us to pick any gourami to take home free to make up for us previously being taken advantage of. This gentleman is the only reason why I'll be returning to this shop. I'm glad at least this man employs honest people that care about customer satisfaction. read more

Our family and friends have purchased multiple pets (approx 10) through the years from the Fish Bowl. We have never had any issues with our pets that were purchased. I also have a close friend who works for Animal Control in the city of West Warwick, and he has been in the store multiple times due to allegations, people have made. He states if there was any signs of neglect or animal cruelty the store would be investigated and possibly shut down. Obviously they are still open. I feel bad so many people have had problems with their pups. I am sure like everything else that is being sold, your bound to have a certain percent that will have issues. The Fish Bowl sells quite a few puppies. I am sure they have done the right thing to resolve any issues with the consumer. If they never have, it would have been shut down years ago! read more

Puppies were getting sick everywhere, while stuffed in small crates with nothing but a bowl and water. They look absolutely miserable. All the fish tanks were filthy. These animals are living in a bad environment. Absolutely awful. Not to mention the animals were eating their own feces and vomit. Terrible place for animals. read more

SCAM the fish bowl return policy is horrible and we warn anybody reading this to not buy any fish from this store. We bought 3 fishes from this location a stingway and two angel fishes and all died with in 24 hrs when we returned to exchange them they refused by telling us is our problem and blaming us for the fishes death we explained that all our other fishes are alive and healthy and only the fishes from this store died and they refused to return our money or even give us a store credit. It hurts my heart to learn that my $900 dog from the Fish Bowl in West Warwick is inbred. I thought it was me as an owner not doing something right but it's not me, it's the wiring in his brain because his parents were probably brother and sister or mother and son. It fucking kills me that he is the way he is. Always on edge, always anxious. When I went to work on the day that I bought him, he was basically fucking dead. I spent my four hour shift making sure he ate and drank. I gave him medicine and supplements to ensure he would live! And he did!! But is he living his best life always nervous that I'm not going to come home? Afraid that he is going to be left alone to die?! Who knows, but everyday I try my fucking hardest to make sure he is happy! I love my Whiskey Richard so much but he sure does give us a run for our money. I tried to warn people on the page but I was blocked and now I cannot make a difference. I'm writing this in hopes that word will get around and people will stop buying puppies from this place. If we all stop supporting their puppy sales they will have to stop selling them! Come on guys, lets spread the word. read more

I've bought a couple fish and other items here and have been overall impressed. They could do more variety on the freshwater options, but they're a lot better than the chain pet stores. The one real downside is that it's hard to be helped sometimes but that's not the worst thing. A lot of times I need the wait time to help talk me out of an impulsive purchase. Prices on small supplies are fair. Lots of stone options, limited wood options. Larger tank purchases seem very pricy. read more

Awful. They had a bassett hound cooped up in a tiny cage. Their bearded dragon was kept on sand, which is horrible for them, and looked emaciated. They had large rabbits in small enclosures, along with guinea pigs in a dirty, small tank. There were tons of dead goldfish at the bottom of their tank, every tank was cloudy. I would never give this place my money, and I would not recommend anyone give them any of theirs if they continue to mistreat animals like this. read more

You can tell they have a true passion for the hobby and their customers. They also have an interesting reptile department. I first went in to buy some fish and live plants for my aquarium. The girl working there must've been on drugs because she couldn't understand what I was asking her. I told her I wanted to buy a fish and she said it would outgrow my tank, so I said I would just buy a bigger tank. She said "huh?" And that she couldn't sell me the fish because it would outgrow the tank. I said I would buy a bigger tank and she still didn't understand that I was there to spend money. I then went back to the register to pay for the live plants since that's all she would let me buy and she didn't have them. She said "can I help you?" I said you've been working with me the last 5 minutes. I wanted to buy the live plants. And she forgot them. She was clearly stoned and on drugs. So I'm going to spend my money elsewhere. The owner should know he's got an employee problem there. 5:30 pm on Friday 10/9/2020. Check the cameras, you'll see I walked out empty handed. Very dirty and smelly. Animals are kept in small tanks. Guinea pigs had overgrown nails and seemed lethargic. They were both kept in one small tank with no toys or room to run around. I left feeling sad for the animals so needless to say I am not impressed at all. Place needs to be shut down. read more

Went in to Fish Bowl earlier to purchase a number of items to start up a salt-water aquarium. The girls who were working there today seemed like they didn't want to be bothered. They never greeted me when I was in the fish department, and I had to seek them out to get any attention. I asked them a few simple questions, and in the middle of answering them they stopped helping me to take a return. I cut them some slack, as it seemed like the customer doing the return was giving them a hard time. They then went on to help another customer (who absolutely wreaked of pot, and seemed completely blitz) looking to purchase a puppy. They didn't even acknowledge the fact they were previously helping me out. Completely ignored me, and I ended up walking out the door. I was going to drop a few hundred dollars there, but they lost my business. I probably would have continued to go back and spent more given they're right down the street from me. I guess I will just go elsewhere. This place deserves less than one star. read more

If it were possible not to give a star I would. Were do I begin? Lets start with the manager who has no interest in fish or customer service. He couldn t care less if you dropped dead in front of him. He has no desire to help you or answer any of your questions. That s actually a plus though, because he doesn t know the correct answers. Amazingly he seems to have no real knowledge of fish keeping. He DOES NOT WANT TO BE THERE and makes it very obvious. You will be treated like a bother. His staff knows as much as he does. Again, you are on your own. The fish he keeps are unhealthy and diseased. You buy them, they die, and he doesn t care or want to know about it. I wish I could rate this negative stars, this store is TERRIBLE. They have absolutely no regard for the customer whatsoever. I went in about a week ago and purchased one blue ram cichlid, two corydoras and a handful of live black worms as a treat for my fish. My fish have never had any live food before and I only feed them Hikari freeze dried and frozen foods (which guarantees the foods are free from parasites and bacteria). The worker at the store GUARANTEED me that the worms would nit harm my fish in any way, that they were 100% safe and came from a clean culture. About a day after feeding them the black worms the fish started acting out of the ordinary. It started with my bettas, they seemed bloated I thought maybe they had gorged themselves and didn't feed them for a couple days and the bloating went down. I read that bettas shouldn't eat black worms and stopped giving them to that tank and only gave them to the the tanks without bettas (I have three fish tanks: a 14 gallon, a 5 gallon, and a 29 gallon). Now a week later half my fish are dead, the surviving fish are all quarantined. Before dying they seemed to convulse and dart around the tank uncontrollably as if they were having a seizure. With googling it appears the fish all had/have some kind of parasitic infection. I called the store to inform them that they may have contaminated black worms so that they could pull the item and not sell them to prevent potentially harming other peoples fish. I was told I was lying and there was no possibility of this happening. He refused to do any sort of return on the fish that were bought at that store only a week ago, stated that he would not be pulling the item because there was no possibility that this was happening, told me no one else has EVER had this happen and proceeded to scream and hang up the phone. I tried calling back and the same thing happened. After I was told that they have never had a complaint about this, I started googling the business. I found that this in fact HAS happened before, customers HAVE complained, and they were treated in the exact same manner. I now have three tanks with dying fish. Half of the fish I've had forever with no problems are dead. There's nothing I can do about it. And I've had to try to explain to my three year old why the fish are sick (the convulsions scared him half to death), why all our fish are dying, and why the man on the phone kept screaming at me. Do not shop here. You have been warned. Doing so will only result in heartbreak and a traumatic experience. I am posting this on every site I can so that NO ONE has to go through what I did. read more

I may stray away in this review, I just have 1 main point to address. I've visited this store a few times in the past and I will say they have a large variety of fish to choose from. It seems as their accessory sections have expanded, which is great for anyone looking to start a setup. The store name is ... the FISH BOWL aquarium, I'm wondering why this store has ever/ is still selling puppies?!!! I thought this was something they may have done away with, but nope, there's still signs on the door saying "We have puppies!" And once you walk in, in the furthest corner - crates of puppies, or 1 lonely puppy, hungry and waiting for someone to give them attention. Anyone can pass by this store and never realize they sell puppies..because the entire demographic of the store seems to be fish/reptile oriented. And those dogs will sit and wait for someone to bring them home...and once they do get homes they are probably extremely sick. It is so sad to see puppies, cats, any animal still being sold in shops like this. Always rescue and adopt from local shelters. read more
