Last month we went on a mini vacation and stayed in Montrose to go rockhounding for geodes in keokuk. We came across about the only place open on a Monday in Keokuk. It was strange to experience a bunch of spots closed until Wednesday or even just open much later. Probably just slow since it's a small town. First wok definitely didn't disappoint. The food was delicious and everything was generously portioned. We had meals for two days from here. Service was excellent and the food was ready when we went to pick up. The food was good, the portions large, and the girl behind the counter friendly and easy to understand. You have to order at the counter, they do not come to your table. 3 of us ate lunch here and the service was fast! It is CASH only so be prepared for that. I've had better crab rangoon but it was still good. I ordered veggie lo mein with no onions, steamed dumplings, and crab rangoon. I tried an egg roll too. Everything was freshly made and good! We have been ordering takeout here for years and it's always hot, tasty, reasonably priced and generously portioned. Some of our favorites are the Jalapeño Chicken, Vegatable Chow Mai Fun, Orange Chicken, House Special Fried Rice and Pork Pad Thai. The wonton soup is especially comforting on a cold day. The food here is absolutely delicious and the staff is super friendly. It may look like a hole in the wall but it's clean and has plenty of seating. They only take cash so be prepared. When ordering the Crab Rangoon I suggest trying it with applesauce instead of the sweet and sour ( amazeballs ). read more

Food was amazing! Exactly what we hoped for. We had meal plates, that were priced good and had a ton of food. We added on some sides, everything was correct for pick up. The do NOT take cards, so just make sure you have cash. We are from out of town and didn't have any, so it sucked to have to go over to Casey's. But, the food was amazing, so it's all good. I have always liked First Wok but on two separate occasions recently, I have been very disappointed. On each one, there was no rice included as there usually is. And today there was no sauce with the dumplings as well as no rice and the breading on the sweet and sour chicken was doughy and underdone. On both occasions my order was taken and filled by a young man. I don t usually have these problems and we order several times a month. Will stop if this continues. read more

The staff are very welcoming and they always put passion into what their cooking. Best Chinese place in town, in my opinion. Can't recommend them enough. Hard pass. You can tell a lot about a place by the way the food looks. They DO NOT clean and devein their shrimp. That's shrimp POOP under the fried shrimp batter. Disgusting. I've also never had yellow fried rice before. Usually soy sauce makes it brown. It was dry and flavorless. No thank you $10 to throw it away. The Diet Coke was cold though. The decor hasn't been updated since the 80s. read more

The food is almost always really good. I've only ever had one bad experience and we've been eating here for years. We've dined in and picked up, and have always enjoyed their selections. The cost is also amazing for so much food! They're service is awesome, even if the customer isn't right (we watched them publicly handle a particularly nasty and wrong customer on my birthday and they handled it so well). We were staying the night in Keokuk with family. We were craving some good Chinese food and we found it! This place is not large, it is not fancy, but they put out some very tasty Chinese food! The food was very good and the menu is extensive. We ordered crab Rangoon which was very very good. We also ordered their egg drop soup which also is good. We had a couple of different kinds of fried rice both were good. We also had sweet-and-sour chicken, lemon chicken and one of their specialties which is called dragon and phoenix. After reading Ed A's review I thought I would give the egg roll a try to see if his feedback was accurate. After my egg roll was delivered, I placed it on a napkin to see how much grease came off of it. Even after cutting it open on the napkin - no grease. Still the best in Keokuk. Not the best anywhere, but for Keokuk it can't be beat. read more

Great local place for inexpensive Chinese food. I've been getting the orange chicken and fried rice here for the past 15 years, and it's some of the best around. They also have a lot of other good options that aren't as sweet / breaded... Often get Chicken and Chinese veggies, Beef Broccoli, and most of their shrimp dishes are also pretty good. For noodles, I like the Chicken Chow Mei Fun, which has a very light sauce, or Chicken Lo Mien which is a little richer. Nothing fancy, but great food. Also, don't forget it's cash only. read more

This place sucks! We tried them a few weeks ago, they messed up our take out order. When we called they said we weren't charged for an item we know we ordered. No apologies , just too bad for us. Crab rangoons were cold and double cooked pork was 95 percent cabbage, where's the pork? Gave them a 2nd chance and this time they forgot an entree, once again they said we weren't charged for it and no apologies nothing. We're done! When I lived in Iowa, my partner and I used to come here a lot. In my opinion, they had the best Chinese food in town. We would dine at others to mix it up, but this was always the best choice. If this is the best in town, I would hate to know what the rest of the Chinese restaurants are like. First, I was given the wrong order (takeout). Then, the food I received was bland and disappointing. The eggrolls were so greasy that the oil poured out of them when you picked them up. Good food and the lunch specials are a fantastic value. If you like the spicy food, ask them to make it extra spicy. I have been a customer for years and have never had them mess up an order. I think their business is mostly carry out but they do have booths and a couple tables where you can eat in though the atmosphere is just basic seating. No delivery.
