This morning I had to pleasure of having breakfast at First Watch in Hoover. It has been years since I had breakfast here but I remember how delicious it was. I ordered the Raspberry Ricotta French Toast and it did not disappoint. It came with thick French roast, topped with raspberry syrup, raspberries, and whipped cream. It was very sweet, savory, and it melted in my mouth. And although it might be considered as an unhealthy breakfast, they do offer foods on the menu that are on the healthier side. They're menu is very diverse including options such as eggs, bacon, fruit bowls, and more. The service was excellent and the inside of the restaurant was clean and visually appealing. I highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a great breakfast. read more

First Watch takes kind of a upscale casual approach to breakfast. Where once upon a time when you thought of breakfast at a restaurant, thoughts of greasy spoons for diners would be the first thing that came to mind. First Watch and several other restaurants are offering a slightly different model Emma terms of the food and the ambiance. Not that this place is going to wow you with the audience. You won't see chandeliers hanging off of the ceiling and you won't be served on crystal and fine china, but they do making an airy, bright and pleasant environments to eat your food. The food itself is a bit beyond the usual offerings. Not that those items are obliterated from the menu, but rather they add on to the menu. You can get healthier options, as well as the bacon and eggs breakfast. You can't go wrong with any of their omelettes and their eggs benedict are pretty stellar, as well. I would definitely recommend a visit here for breakfast. read more

Went to First Watch this morning to enjoy some pancakes and coffee. We walked in and were immediately seated. Our waitress was very pleasant and offered to get us coffee or whatever else we wanted to drink. The food: I have had the pumpkin pancake breakfast multiple times and it is fantastic, but today I felt like getting two of there ginormous pancakes...and yes they were the size of a large plate each. I decided on the carrot cake pecan pancakes and they blew my mind. They came with cinnamon butter and were full of shredded carrot, pecans, and raisins. Highly recommend these pancakes. We also got the triathlete which is our healthy go-to. Its an egg white omelet with several items in it, fruit, and thick toast. Overall, First Watch is the reliable breakfast spot in town for us. I got the basic breakfast to see if it could be done well. First of all, fresh food should be hot. Nothing was hot at all. Scrambled eggs were dry, like an over done omelet with no filling. The great bread did not even melt the butter. Potatoes could have been great, they were cool and bland. I asked for very crispy bacon and it was limp. The sausage seemed like it might have been recently on a griddle. The preserves were good. My daughter got the breakfast tacos. She said they were very flavorful, had a little spicy heat which was good, snd they were freshly hot. Could have used some acid on the tacos, like a like to squeeze, or some crema. Also, they fell apart after about two bites. Using double tortillas for each one would be a great idea. Having said all of that, they were swamped. Which is what you want as a restaurant and I did not take the chance to voice my concerns. I would go back, they did have some other great items on the menu. Service was very good. read more

We use to love this place but the quality of food and services has gone down in the last year. We ordered food online to go and it didn't come out until 15 minutes after the estimated time. It appears the food just sat in the back until someone could find the time to bring them up front. As I'm walking out I realized the bag seemed light so I checked it and an entire meal was missing. The main hostess seemed and annoyed and unhelpful when I mentioned it to her and said she would check but then just stood there. I found someone else who was upfront that was actually helping and interacting with customers. This person brought the extra missing meal out immediately and was very kind and helpful. With all of this to say, they were very busy but the managers need to re-evaluate some of their systems and processes with getting meals out more quickly for to go orders. I also recommend they re-evaluate some of their staff up front and promote some of the ones who were going above and beyond while the others just stand around. read more

My only complaint is I wish there was more room up front in the area where you pay. There was a wait and it was hard to get to the register to pay because the line of people waiting to get on the list was crowding the whole front area. It would be nice for there to be more room there, designated separate lines, or to be able to pay the server. The atmosphere is modern and cool. The ingredients are great quality. Now that is unbeatable. The closet to me is located in Hoover (Riverchase). I always order the morning meditation with my meal its a super healthy drink loaded with orange, lemon, turmeric, organic ginger, agave nectar and beet. Its kinda like my morning coffee minus the caffeine overload. So if you are thinking healthy for breakfast, check this place out for sure. read more

Today my friends and I ordered breakfast and picked it up. They first forgot a drink we ordered that was $7 as well as utensils, and syrup when we requested extra syrup. We tried calling back to just get it refunded-no answer. We both open our sides and there is a hair in each one of them. We tried calling again and no answer. We have tried calling at least 5 times now and literally nobody is picking up. First watch is usually our go to brunch/breakfast place but we will definitely be rethinking that with the experience we've had today. Once again, shout out to my fellow Yelper (Quita) for suggesting this place to me. I made a comment on Facebook that I wanted an omelette and she recommended this place. Of course, I had to check them out on Yelp and they had good reviews so I told my Husbae I wanted to eat here for lunch today. I used the feature on Yelp that let me be added to the waitlist, which was really helpful because the estimated wait was like 20-30 minutes. Well, by the time we got there, we had a table. I like the inside of this restaurant. It's kind of like a farmhouse, country feel. Our waitress addressed us and asked if we wanted coffee. My husband got coffee. I settled on water. I like how they bring a little pitcher of water to the table so I was able to refill as I needed to myself. I got the Chorizo Chile omelette with the potatoes an it came with toast. My husband got The Works omelette with the potatoes and toast as well. The portion is really big. I'm still kind of full right now. The food was really great! My husband felt the same. On the check (which you pay upfront instead of paying with your waitress), we were charged for two coffees, but the waitress quickly corrected our check when we brought it to her attention. The private parking lot is small and congested, but there is additional parking behind the restaurant. For those familiar with Hoover, this land was formally Chase Lake Country Club, and the restaurant is approximately where the driving range was. I had a very hearty breakfast this morning. I ordered the Farmhouse Skillet Hash. This is a combination of bacon, avocado, onions, cheese, and potatoes. It is topped with two eggs cooked to order. I ordered my eggs over-medium, and they were cooked just right. The ingredients worked well, and I especially liked the flavorful bacon and fresh avocado. The dish is served with a piece of toast and a small cup of fresh fruit (the melon and pineapple were not quite ripe). This dish is a big meal, and I couldn't finish it. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the service was good. Overall a pretty solid choice for a big breakfast. read more

My daughter and I wanted breakfast/brunch today and decided on First Watch after my daughter said that she has a $2 off coupon courtesy of her school. It was my daughter's first time to eat at First Watch and my second time. We were seated right away at a small table, which had just enough space to accommodate the water carafe, water glasses, coffee server, coffee mugs, silverware, condiments, and big platters of food for two people. I had the Tri-Fecta: 2 eggs, a protein (I chose the chicken sausage patty), and a waffle or pancake (I chose the pancake). I ate up everything, it was so good. But it would have been nice to get a little bit of seasonal fruit too. My daughter had the Eggs Benedict Florentine, which she enjoyed the poached eggs, avocado slices, and ciabatta bread. I think she was supposed to have fruit as a side, but I don't think she got it, and I just now realized it when I thought of what else would have made the meals even better. Service was prompt and good. We didn't feel rushed but also not ignored. I wish that the menu had photos of the food, as I am a visual person. This place is clean, hearty and good. But it's not amazing. It gets the job done and you don't go home feeling like you wrecked your caloric intake for the week. No chicken and waffles and donut burgers here! I got the chicken sausage gravy biscuit which tasted kinda more like Thanksgiving turkey and gravy on a biscuit and less like southern white gravy with pepper. I don't eat pork sausage so I was hoping it would be more more traditional biscuits and gravy just with a non pork meat. It was good though, just not what I expected. My friends and mom enjoyed their meals. But they forgot my mom's sides and she didn't know she was supposed get potatoes and fruit with her Benedict. I wasn't paying attention to her plate either. So she got hungry again when we got home, made me sad. Pros: not a crazy long wait to get seated, cute seating, hip decor, great coffee, somewhat healthy, good quality ingredients, amazing seasoned potatoes, lots of non pork and avocado stuff to choose from. Cons: long wait after ordering it took 30-40 mins, room temp foods, mild service not bad/but not great, boring menu/no fun food, and kinda expensive for breakfast and brunch. I love First Watch SO MUCH! I live in alabaster, and I consider this the closest "decent" breakfast place to my house! I've been to first watch multiple times, and my visits have consistently been outstanding, no matter what I order, the food is hot and fresh, the drinks perfectly prepared, and the service excellent. One of my favorite starters is the million dollar bacon. This dish is amazing, with the perfect combination of sweet, salty, and heat. Probably my favorite entree ever here was the smoked salmon tzatziki toast. With poached eggs, dill, radishes, and red onions, this was an explosion of flavor! It's seasonal tho, so catch it when you can. I also enjoyed the shakshuka, Mediterranean eggs cooked in a rich tomato sauce. I've sampled lemon ricotta pancakes, eggs Benedict, and several omelets. Went to today bcus my partner was craving breakfast food. I was quite hesitant bcus of my last encounter here but after trying two other places this was the closest thing we could find before her flight out. Ms. April was our server and she was very attentive. I loved her energy. We had decaf coffee which was warm enough to just drink but it served it's purpose. We both had the Beef Short Rib Poutine Hash. Mine with over medium eggs and hers were scrambled no cheese. This is how it reads. "Red wine-braised beef short rib tossed with fresh seasoned potatoes, house-roasted Crimini mushrooms and shallots, Mozzarella cheese and all-natural Wisconsin white cheddar cheese curds. Topped with two cage-free eggs cooked any style, a creamy demi-glace sauce and fresh herbs." Just reading it made our mouth water so we both ordered the same thing and we NEVER do that so we can both try each other's dishes but today this won. Now as you can see they arrived beautiful and I'm not going to lie it was delicious. It needed nothing at all but I add black pepper to EVERYTHING so there's that. BUT there was hardly any meat in the dish at all which was disappointing because we didn't order any other protein thinking there was no need. So we took a good amount of potatoes home. It's definitely worth trying but you're going to need to add extra beef or order a side of something else to get your protein. We also had 1 Lemon Ricotta Pancake to share and it was everything I imagined it to be and more. She didn't care for the lemon curd as much but I loved it. I will say it's sooooo damn good as is neither of us added syrup. I had sugar free and she had regular and there was absolutely no need for it. TRY IT.
