Went to First Watch around 8:30 on Saturday morning for breakfast. The parking lot looked super full so I was worried we weren't going to get in right away. Solid 4 1/2 stars but I rounded up to five! I don't believe this FT has been open for long. It sits on the east edge of a strip mall conveniently located just in front of Costco. I stopped for a late breakfast on a weekday and it was quite busy! I elected to be seated at the small outdoor bar area, which has two open windows into the main dining area. There is another bar top seating area inside, as well. My first impression was that this FT was very nicely designed with a farmhouse theme that seemed appropriate. Although the outdoor patio is small, I appreciated that it is shaded and actually seems quite quaint despite facing the parking lot and Hwy 36. The only drawback to sitting at this outdoor bar area is that it is somewhat breezy. The waitress told me it's designed this way to prevent flies and other insects from entering the building. No real problem for me as it was a warm day, and I appreciated the air movement...however, it's worth mentioning. I ordered coffee and the frittata rustica. The waitress was kind enough to bring me my own insulated carafe to refill my own. My order arrived timely just as the restaurant crowd was beginning to pick up. My server was busy but attentive and friendly. The frittata was light and flavorful, the salad crisp and fresh. I'm not a fast eater, and due to the breeze my food and coffee didn't stay warm for long. Again, very minor inconvenience though and overall I was very pleased with my meal at this location. We've been to a lot of different First Watch locations and we were excited to find they were opening one close by. They have a really nice outdoor seating area and the food is excellent as we expected it to be. A new summer shareable is on the menu - a blueberry lemon cornbread and it is worth every bite. It is to die for! I also tried the breakfast tacos and I was not disappointed. Could easily have shared with someone and the spice was perfect for brunch. The only reason I didn't give a 5 is because inside could've been more picked up and cleaned. Whenever you can see into a kitchen, my expectations are high and the kitchen floor was a mess. Ahhh, First watch, one of the most popular breakfast joints in the area. They are always packed and for good reason. I walked in and hoped they had counter service, they did! I had the "breakfast bar" all to myself but otherwise the place was packed. A server immediately made contact doing double duty in a section and the bar. She was also double sat as the outdoor part of the breakfast bar had a walk up at the same time I sat down...she didn't blink an eye and had everyone taken care of quickly. I ordered the tri-fecta with 2 eggs over medium, bacon, and a Belgian waffle without the powdered sugar (seriously restaurants, stop the PS). I sipped coffee and water for about 25 minutes until the food came. It was nice to slow down and enjoy my coffee. My only complaint (and trying not to add a mark against FW for other restaurants doing the EXACT same thing) is that the waffle showed up with powdered sugar...so I won't touch it and now I'm out of time as I have to walk back down the road to get my car from being detailed. First world problems, right? Grumpy late 40s guy, right? So busy in the kitchen that they can't read the ticket, right? Autopilot cooks right? Expeditor, not reading the ticket, right? I had them as a 3-star but that's not fair so as I type this sentence I added the 4th star. The server asked if I wanted to take the waffle with me, but again, I was walking and then I told her, "No, that they had put the powdered sugar on it." She realized and wasn't happy with her kitchen...she wadded up the ticket and said, "You're good to go." I thanked her and tipped her an Alexander Hamilton... happy that she didn't throw away her shot at great service recovery. Can somebody PLEASE get this man a pancake or waffle without powdered sugar. (intentional movie reference). The search for no powdered sugar continues. Perhaps the 4th breakfast place I try will succeed. Met a friend for lunch who I'd not seen in awhile. Ordered a cobb salad and asked the server if I could substitute the avocado for an egg--she said 'sure'. Noticed after I left that I was charged for the egg! While it's not a lot of money, it's annoying. Sure, I should have caught it but I was busy trying to catch up with my friend. AHHHMAYZING! I started with fresh squeezed OJ and fresh piping hot black coffee. Both on point! I typically would never order bacon in a restaurant because I have to have it cooked very particular. I am so glad that my friend ordered it because sweet, savory and spicy all in one perfect bite of bacon is all I can say! I followed that up with a Omelette with ham, sausage, bacon, onions, and mushrooms with a side of cheesy grits that were made absolutely perfectly! My friend had the French toast and loved it! This restaurant recently opened in my area, so today several of us in the office tried it out for lunch. We had a group of 6 and were worried we could get in at 1145, but they were able to seat us right away. The menu was good and the service was as good as you can during a lunch-rush. I ordered the soup-of-the-day and a salad. After several minutes, our server came back and informed us they were already out of the soup-of-the-day. Honestly, I was ok with just getting tomato soup, but it seemed weird they ran out of their "special" at the start of lunch. Oh well, my meal came out and the soup was hot and the salad was cold. (Good job). Only issue with the meal was the avocados were not at all ripe and borderline crunchy. Someone should have noticed that while preparing it. Had brunch here a few days ago with friends. There were four and tho it was busy we were seated on the patio quickly on a late weekday morning. Our water stopped by pretty quickly and we ordered drinks. I had a cucumber beverage - different but tasty. My order was a pretty standard eggs bacon and toast with hash browns. Liked their bread, scrambled eggs average but I was not a fan of the bacon - thick and chewy. Not my style. Potatoes were hot and the best part of the meal. Place was busy but not loud outdoors. Premium ingredients are used and proper techniques are followed.
