A few of my banks have been merged into others - thus my experience with Wells Fargo. But it was through my horrific experience with Wells Fargo that brought me to Westamerica Bank - and I have never looked back. I like the wonderful people and service of Westamerica - and I've worked with various branches in various locations as I have moved a lot in the past 20 years. I want to give a shout out to the branches in Sausalito and in Grass Valley. They have always treated me with respect and (in a word you don't often associate with banking) generosity. Westamerica hasn't been the quickest bank to get into digital. Yes, I was with them before they were fully online. And there are still some cumbersome aspects to their digital presence, but their high quality service out-weighs that aspect of their organization. If you wanted to be treated well, I'd recommend you look into them. They are West Coast centric, but I live part time abroad and I've not had to change banks. The only proviso in being an expat with them as your bank is that their rates aren't the cheapest and you'll be charged ATM fees from abroad. Still, I've kept them as my main bank and added applications that defray the costs of ATMS and transfer fees, because I know they have my back. Good work, Westamerica!

The employees there are grouchy and difficult with customers. We have moved our personal accounts to other local institutions whenever possible. But for some reason we can't change banks. Sometimes we drive down to the Auburn branch. But we can't always do that. So we have to deal with the unpleasant people in Colfax. They repeatedly "lose" emails, can't find record of conversations and most frustrating, ignore appointment times so when we show up at the branch to open a new account they say "no, we never set this time as an appointment..." I strongly recommend you avoid using this bank, or at least this branch if you can.

This year, as of March, however, has been a nightmare. My direct deposit didn't go through, and what followed was weeks of confusion and frustration. I initially thought the issue was with my tax filing service or even the IRS. After countless hours on the phone with the IRS and wading through additional paperwork, I finally uncovered the truth: the IRS informed me, "We didn't direct deposit your refund as you requested because the financial institution didn't honor the deposit request." That's right - Sierra Central (SSCU) rejected my tax refund direct deposit! This single decision by the bank has forced me to wait over 10 weeks for my refund to arrive by snail mail. This in addition to the time and effort it took to identify the issue. All because SSCU wouldn't accept my deposit. This is absolutely unbelievable. I am beyond speechless at their lack of service and the hassle they have caused. P.S. Yes, some representative (No, not Ron S.) contacted me about the previous posts and then forwarded the credit card reversal issue to their IT. My daughter has relayed to me that the tellers are not consistent, friendly enough, but different tellers ask for different verification information when she goes in to do her transactions in person. Now that she's an established customer, it's a bit off putting. There is only one ATM machine outside, no drive-thru, although I have never seen a line for the ATM, so it's whatever. Lines inside are managed efficiently. This place is a well-oiled machine.

I spent over 40 minutes on hold, listening to a repeated recording telling me how much Chase appreciates my business and values the opportunity to serve me and other insincere bullshit. So, after more that 40 minutes, I get a representative who is on a VOIP line that is breaking up so badly that I can barely understand him, which is not made better by the thick foreign accent. Then he put me back on hold, and now more "appreciate my business and value the opportunity. . ." What crap. Why has this deplorable level of service become acceptable? To me it is NOT acceptable. The officers of this corporation should be tarred and feathered.
