I am, however, able to discuss her nature, her knowledge, and her dedication. I suffer from a rare condition called hyperemesis gravidarum. It's a condition that had me hospitalized on three occasions, and on bed rest for six months. I lost my job, I was unable to connect with friends and family, I was too sick to speak, and I was on anti-nausea meds that kept me asleep or too groggy to think most of the day. To compound matters, I'm fairly new to LA and didn't have the social resources to help me through that incredibly difficult time. When I finally emerged from the fog, a friend recommended I research doulas for additional support, which is how I found Kate. When reaching out and explaining my situation, other doulas were "all business." Most let me know they were already booked, and explained that I should have researched doulas earlier (thank you for your wisdom). Kate was the exception that took note of my difficult situation and all but rushed to my rescue. While she was already booked for my due date, she reached out to her vast doula community to help me find someone who was a good fit. Because of my condition and the after-effects of being in solitary confinement for six months, my needs are high--and specific. So, helping me find another doula was no small feat. Kate also set me up with a slew of other resources to help me manage the mental and physical stress I had been going through. She also welcomed me into her new mom community, which seems to be exclusively made up of kind, cool, welcoming women. Kate has been nothing short of a Godsend to me. It's hard to express in a Yelp review just how desperate I was to feel supported. Somehow, in my six sentence inquiry email that was overlooked by a handful of other doulas, Kate saw through the fog and saw a woman in need. I am eternally grateful to her and anyone would be lucky to have her on their side.

I wasn't sure I was going to have a Doula the second time around. I felt that my husband and I already had a pretty solid birth partnership and because it was going to be a home birth we'd have lots of constant support from our midwife and her assistant. When we decided we wanted the extra love/care, we knew Kate should be that person. Perhaps what stands out most in my memory of Kate on that day is how she seemed to know exactly what was needed in each given moment. As a Doula myself, I'm aware that each birth is unique as is every couple and family. Sometimes a Doula needs to be very hands on, and sometimes not as much - more as a supportive presence in the room from a distance. Kate just totally took our cues and because of my husband and my relationship, because we'd done this before and because it was a shorter and easier labor...we did a lot of it on our own. But in the moments I needed Kate and didn't even know it, I'd look over and there she was - whispering the most perfect motivating and inspirational words in my ear, or massaging my neck and shoulders with lavender oil. I feel honored to have Kate in my life. It is clear that supporting new families is her true calling, and I can say from experience that any couple considering using her services will most definitely have a more peaceful and positive prenatal, birth and/or postpartum experience with Kate by their side.

We talked to Mallory's doctor about our plan for an unmedicated birth and she was highly supportive, but suggested we would have the greatest likelihood of success if we worked with a birth doula. With this advice in mind, we reached out to our community for birth doula recommendations and miraculously found our way to Stephanie. We couldn't have known it then, but choosing to work with Stephanie was the best decision we ever could have made as we embarked on our journey to bring Milo into the world. From our initial consultation with Stephanie over FaceTime, we could tell just how experienced, knowledgeable, and resourceful she is, and we felt we would be in great hands if we partnered with her. Our instincts proved correct - following the initial consultation, Stephanie came over to our home 5 times before our due date to help us prepare for the big day. With each visit, she imparted invaluable knowledge that helped us better understand what to expect throughout the birthing process and how to get ready for it. She taught Mallory skills she could lean on to help manage her pain during labor, and she taught me skills I could lean on to help support Mallory through the experience. But perhaps the most important outcome of Stephanie's home visits was the profound bond we formed with her. Because we were able to spend so much time getting to know each other before the big day, we went into labor feeling like a team, and we knew that we could fully rely on Stephanie to help us navigate the intense experience of labor for the first time. When Mallory finally went into labor, we nested at home for hours until her contractions became too frequent and intense to ignore, and then we called Stephanie to help us determine when we should head to the hospital. Stephanie waited patiently on the phone as Mallory's breath was taken away by one contraction after another, offering soothing words when they were most needed to help Mallory get through the pain. Together as a team, we made the decision to meet at the hospital around 9PM, and from the minute the hospital staff let Stephanie into our labor & delivery room until Milo was born at 4:26AM the following morning, she never left our side. At every juncture, Stephanie knew exactly what to do, whether it was moving Mallory into a different position to help Milo navigate the birth canal, applying compression to Mallory's legs and hips to help relieve the pain, or calling on the hospital staff to assess Mallory's progress. With Stephanie's help, Mallory was successful in having a fully unmedicated birth, and we can safely say that wouldn't have been possible without her. Having now gone through that experience with Stephanie and welcoming our son into the world with her by our side, we feel more connected to her than we ever could have imagined, and we know that our little family of three will share a special connection with her for the rest of our lives. We are forever grateful to Stephanie for everything she did for us, and we can't recommend her highly enough. If you choose to work with her, trust that you will be cared for beyond measure and supported in bringing your birth vision to fruition.

If you're trying to decide if a doula is worth it... YES, it is!…read more I worked with Catherine for my second pregnancy. Although I had been through birth once before, I felt strongly that I wanted someone in the room that would be my voice and would advocate for me when I was exhausted and focused on other things. My first birth went less than ideal and although my baby and I are alive and well, I did feel like I had been pressured into making several decisions that I didn't even know that I had a choice in. I deviated pretty far from my reasonable birth plan, essentially because my preferences INCONVENIENCED the nurses. For example, wanting to be mobile instead of on my back in bed, preferring a saline lock instead of a fixed IV line, not wanting optical antibiotics for about an hour after birth (to support breastfeeding), etc. The second time around, I knew that I wanted an expert on my side to have the emotional strength to help me see my plan through! Having already done it once before, I also knew that (while I love him dearly!) my husband is not the best birth coach. I really needed a patient third party to help me through the pain and tell me what to do! Working with Catherine was really great. What I loved most was that she provided so much scientific based information to help me make my choices. She also had zero judgment about the choices I made. She offered her personal input when asked and supported my decisions throughout. I had been induced the first time around so I was a little anxious about what to expect actually going into labor. Catherine was available 24/7 to answer my questions and help me understand what might be happening when I felt weird things! When my water broke, she labored with me at home and did a great job keeping myself and my husband calm and relaxed! She followed us to the hospital when it was time and was everything I hoped she'd be in the room! I ended up being able to follow my birth plan pretty closely (of course there are always deviations depending on the circumstances and for sake of mom and baby's wellbeing). I had a very easy, med-free and complication-free birth thanks to Catherine! I cannot say enough about how great she is!

As most women experience with multiple kids, my pregnancy and birth for each kid were very different from each other. For each I had specific concerns and issues arise, and Catherine was beyond equipped to help me with all of them. I even delivered at different hospitals, and she was well versed in the nuances of each ward, which was a major plus that I didn't anticipate. I am so happy that Catherine was a part of the beginning of our children's lives, and were we to have another baby, I would want her there as well.

Prior to our birth we spent several sessions with Ofelia where she taught us about labor and the birth process, exercises and ways to prepare for the birth we were hoping for, and what items we needed to purchase for our baby and how to best prepare the house for his arrival. She is so knowledgeable, especially as there is so much information out there about what you should be buying - she was helpful in figuring out what was necessary and what wasn't. We were very grateful for her guidance. I was hoping to have a birth with no medications and no interventions, and with Ofelia's help I was able to achieve that. She was there to help support us both physically and emotionally. She supported with things like massage, aroma therapy, hip squeezes, letting me know when to change positions, and reminding me of my goals when things got hard. She printed out photos of me and my husband and put then up around the hospital room and also dimmed the lights and brought candles to create a calming environment. I had exactly the birth that I was hoping for and am so grateful to Ofelia for that. She also took amazing photos during and after the birth that I will cherish forever. One week after the birth she came to visit us and our son to see how we were doing. She helped us with some challenges that we were having with breastfeeding and answered other questions we had. She also continues to text us and check-in to see how we are doing. She is truly a beautiful person that we are so grateful to have in our lives. Our son arrived earlier than expected and was on the smaller side, so our primary concern was setting him up for success in gaining weight and robust health. The day after our discharge from the hospital, Mrs. Ofelia helped my wife navigate breastfeeding strategies and techniques. Mrs. Ofelia also helped us set up a schedule for his eating and sleeping, suggested ideas to make our space more baby friendly and taught us methods for burping, soothing and bathing. Even though she has been working with babies for decades, Mrs. Ofelia underscored that we were the ones who would know our son's needs best. Her consistent advice was for my wife to use her intuition to understand what to do. Because of the foundation of information she provided and her constant encouragement, we were able to feel sure about our choices and more assured that we'd make good decisions after she left. Mrs. Ofelia's emphasis on us taking the time to learn our baby extended to her assistance with household tasks that didn't go away just because we had a newborn. She never stopped working. Her efforts let us focus on taking care of our baby and resting and recovering. We could give our son the energy and attention he needed and that we wanted to provide. We almost began our sessions with Mrs. Ofelia a week after our son's birth. We were so thankful that we decided to start early. My wife and I joked that if we hadn't, we would have spent our initial days with Mrs. Ofelia unlearning our errors made before she'd arrived. Instead, with Mrs. Ofelia by our side, we know we provided the strongest start we could give our newborn. Our pediatrician was impressed by his growth and we are more confident parents. Last, we have to mention that Mrs. Ofelia simply loves babies. She filled every interaction with our baby with tenderness and care. This work is Mrs. Ofelia's vocation. We cannot think of anyone who could better have supported us and our son in the first few weeks of his life. We give her our highest recommendation.
