Jana is the most amazing woman I have ever met. Her classes are so informative and amazing. She knows her information and she teaches her classes with such passion and love. I would like to address the review that said Jana used a false testimonial. She is the most trustworthy, open, honest, person I know and under no circumstances would she ever do or make anyone feel or write a false testimonial. She has educated and loved hundreds of woman and I have never heard not one complain about her. She has one of the most kind hearts you can imagine. Just trust in your heart and take her class and you will see how kind she is. You will not be disappointed. I have taken her classes. I have done the birthing class and doula training. Taking Jana's childbirth preparation class was one of the best decisions I made during my pregnancy. From the very first session, she created an environment that felt warm, safe and supportive. Her calm, reassuring presence and deep knowledge helped ease so many of my fears around birth. Jana brought a wealth of experience into the class, which made me feel informed, empowered, and much more confident about giving birth (I'm 39 weeks pregnant now and I'm confident I want to give birth with no epidural). Jana's class was amazing! My husband (a physician) was recommended the class by a colleague, and we are so happy to have had this preparation for the birth of our first biological child. Their class was well-organized with a wealth of information along with videos and guided practices presented each week. Pregnancy, birth, and parenthood are huge topics loaded with opinions, and Jana did her best to present all of the information objectively while also being forthcoming about areas where she is more passionate/opinionated (which I appreciated). When I finally went into labor, my husband and I were grateful to be knowledgable about the signposts of the different stages of labor, which permitted me to labor at home for quite some time before we headed into the hospital. One feature of the class I loved was being in a cohort of families in our same stage of life. We slowly got to know one another over the course of the 6 weeks, and now we have "dad" and "mom" group texts to keep each other updated on our birth journeys and parenting milestones. Very sweet and needed in a time where it's easy to become isolated in the newborn trenches! Took the class with my wife in May 2025 - My wife wanted an unmedicated birth, so we wanted to find someone that could help us understand the whole process and build confidence about birth in general. Success! We found what we wanted and had the birth my wife dreamed of (unmedicated in a hospital). Jana was very hospitable and super knowledgeable - We enjoyed going to her place for the weekend classes - We were in a small group with 3 other couples that we got close to, had laughs and personal conversations with. She's got two small dogs which were sometimes there and sometimes not. All of the material, including some endearingly "vintage" videos were very accurate, informative and relatable - especially knowing what we know now after we've come out on the other end of the birth. She also was quite knowledgeable about the different hospitals and their procedures. read more

It's sad that I have to share this, but I've been informed that Jana MADE UP A FALSE TESTIMONIAL and put MY NAME on it. I would never had known my friend took the class except that she told me about this, "glowing review you wrote about Jana's class." SERIOUSLY?! She likes to show her groups these books with pages of people's reviews about her class and I DID NOT WRITE a testimonial for her class! I was not happy with the class, ( yet I remained cordial) and I was simply trying to get the classes over with since I had paid for it. Yikes. And this review on yelp is my actual thoughts, written by me. I do not understand the reviews on here, maybe she is offering an incentive for a 5 star review because that's the only way you'd get so many 5 stars across the board (this is a dead give away of false accuracy!) People don't give 5 stars in mass, without incentives. Also I'll say that I'm disappointed to see a response that shows first comments were not taken seriously by Jana. Yes, I do know that a negative review is hard to hear, but a true professional would look at the comments and wonder how they could improve and grow from the review. There is literally nothing in it for me to put up inaccuracies. I wholeheartedly feel that couples are looking at these reviews to get an accurate sense of the class offered. However, she tried to discount me immediately (you will see I have a wide range of reviews, many 5 stars and everything in between) and that's because I have committed myself to ONLY leave honest reviews, and never so that I can have a discount on a class or on a birthing book, etc. For first time parents, please know that there are better options out there, in much cleaner environments and with more modern education practices to be taught. While I did learn a couple things in the class, I learned much more online and in the books I read. Yet those 1980s video clips that Jana showed through the classes..they were unforgettable in a whole different way! read more

We took Jana's 6 week birth class and it was terrific. A good size with only 5 couples, we could all talk and share as we learned. Jana was a wealth of information and covered a lot in each class. The pain management exercises were also very useful. She was such a helpful resource and followed up with us even after that class. Also her adorable puppies were a highlight! read more

Taking Jana's birth class was such a grounding and empowering part of this pregnancy. Before starting, I felt much more anxiety around the unknowns, but Jana has a way of breaking everything down in a clear, approachable, and fun way. The class covered not just the practical steps of labor and delivery, but also how to navigate the emotional and physical experience of giving birth with confidence. What I also really appreciated was how Jana fostered a genuine sense of community. From the mothers of Jana's Winter 2023 class: This review serves as both a thank you to Jana for her amazing class, as well as a recommendation to any expecting parents! Even if you already have children, I'd still recommend taking this class as the information and knowledge that Jana passes on to her students is invaluable! She works very hard to accommodate the schedules of all of the parents in each class, and the cozy and inviting atmosphere she creates really puts nervous expecting parents at ease. The class size is intentionally small to create an intimate environment, and really helps to form a bond between all of the expecting parents. By the end of the classes, we are happy to know we received all the information Jana had to offer, but were sad that we would no longer be hanging out with our new expecting friends once a week lol Jana is also very responsive via email and responded to any number of questions we had, day or night, regarding our birth plans. Regardless of the type of labor and delivery you plan to have, this class is incredibly beneficial. And though it is perhaps a little more geared towards those who would prefer a natural birth, at no time during the classes did Jana give the impression that she was judging any parents' birth plan. It's very clear that her goal is to ensure we had all the information we needed to make educated decisions and be able to advocate for ourselves in our labor and delivery environments. My husband and I had a great experience with Jana's class. We liked that the class was in person and the material was split up into 7 different sessions covering not only labor and delivery but also topics in Postpartum care, breastfeeding, changes in relationship after birth etc. Each week different topics were presented with videos, breathing exercises and interactive discussions. Jana provided us with a detailed understanding of different scenarios that could arise during labor, making us feel prepared and less anxious. Jana teaches a very comprehensive class about everything you want to know as an expecting parent, regardless of the type of delivery that you choose. The wealth of information she conveys is objective & evidence based, and covers the whole process of birth with all its intricacies, what to expect at the beginning of parenthood, potential postpartum issues, mental exercises and meditations to support labor, and much more. My husband and I absolutely loved the class and the way she teaches it - she has all kinds of videos, cards, presentations, and just a plethora of materials that make this class very informative and fun at the same time. I don't think there's anything related to birth that Jana doesn't already know everything about! Her vast and impressive book collection sure hints to that. We were referred by a close friend who also took Jana's course and spoke highly of what was learned. Coming into the class, my husband and I felt like we already knew it all because we come from big families and have raised a lot of our nieces and nephews. My husband and I loved Jana's class. She was really informative about everything- birth, OB/midwife, hospitals, stats, calming methods, mental clarity/calmness and more. She kept classes interesting using different teaching methods- white board/visuals, video, questions, physical demos, etc. She was very supportive of an in hospital birth, and had referrals to everybody! The take home materials and videos were very informative and a helpful resource. I didn't realize how much a birth class like this would connect me closer to my partner and put us in a really great place to be parents and handle the newborn age. I would not recommend a traditional hospital birth class or zoom format after taking this class. I learned so much more, and definitely worth the cost and time investment, and doing in person was so much more beneficial. We also got to meet another fun couple and her very sweet dogs. My husband and I just welcomed our second baby to the family a few weeks ago (41+3) and we found your Supported Birth manual so helpful in refreshing/preparation! This time our doula was able to be there (May 2020 hospitals in LA weren't allowing doulas, UGH!), I labored at home for 30 hours, and arrived at the hospital at 6cm dilated and 100% effaced. From the time I arrived to the time he was born was just about 6 hours. Used the comb in hand technique, asked to use a labor tub, etc --broke out all the tricks and refreshed ourselves with labor positions from the handbooks! Had my dream unmedicated hospital birth -- no epidural but utilized nitrous oxide for the last portion when things got REAL. Turns out it's because our son was a cool 10 lbs 14 oz! The nurses and midwife and doula were blown away by how big he was and everyone said how happy they were to have witnessed an unmedicated big baby birth, with no induction or c-section! Thank you for the course that helped us feel prepared, even 2 years later! read more

My spouse and I are still so grateful for Jana and all that we learned in her class. One of greatest lessons I learned, and that contributed to a great birth experience, was trust in my body, my baby and the process . The confidence I gained from the empowering knowledge she emparted helped me to face the vulnerability of labor with strength and, also the ability to surrender. This class is very different from the typical hospital class. You will get all of the important physiological information, but also practice using different tools and techniques for labor in a private intimate setting. Additionally, you run through and discuss various scenarios/cases and have a space to express fears and feelings about birth and parenting. The course content also includes information on transitioning to parenthood and newborn care. That means it is also a bigger commitment in terms of time (~7 sessions of ~2.5-3 hours) I was committed to doing everything I could to have an unmediated hospital birth despite having a few issues that deemed me "high risk." Jana helped me to prepare for the birth I hoped for, and also for many of the other ways that things can go in such an unpredictable process. She is not attached to anyone having any particular type of birth - only that you can have the best birth experience for you. I really appreciated this. We highly recommend her class. read more

I can't recommend Supported Birth enough, especially if you are a first time parent! We considered several courses before settling on Jana's. It seemed like the most thorough, with seven in-person sessions, and it did not disappoint. Jana is extremely knowledgeable, kind and non-judgmental. She contextualizes the birth process as a natural human event that's been going on long before modern medicine took over. We got valuable insight into the importance of "setting the stage" for labor, keeping the body and mind relaxed (ideally staying home as long as possible!), methods of partner support, making good decisions at the hospital, and more. Jana also teaches about newborn care and breastfeeding, and provides a wealth of resources for putting together your care team and furthering your study on your own. I initially sought out classes to help my partner and I navigate our relationship through pregnancy and I came across Supported Birth. My partner and I are so happy we took the supported birth class. Jana's class was an amazing resource for my partner and I as first time parents. Jana maintained constant contact with me until there was a class available for my partner and I. Janas class consisted of seven weekly meetings at her home and included three other couples. Jana provided us with thorough information on the process of birth. The information we gained allowed us to dismiss any fears we had about labor and it allowed us to have insight on each other's experience and roles during the experience of child birth. The class also presented us with strategies to cope through a contraction. It allowed us to have a realistic perspective of labor. Jana was flexible when we couldn't attend one of the classes. She made sure we obtained the information we needed either through zoom or by lending us one of the short film disc. In addition, the birth class made our relationship stronger and it allowed my partner to become the support system I needed through labor. Personally for my partner and I Jana became one of our biggest support system. She truly made a difference in our experience. Her honesty, knowledge and accessibility allowed us to go to her with any questions or concerns we had through out our pregnancy. Unfortunately I did experience some stressors with my doctor and Jana provided my partner and I a space where we were able to vent and get any questions we had answered. We know Jana truly cares for her students as she demonstrated that to us throughout the course and even after giving birth to our baby. She was even available while she healed from a procedure. We are beyond grateful with Jana. The biggest take away from the class is that my body is made for child birth and that I have a choice in my child birth experience. We can't imagine a better teacher than Jana. When I found out I was pregnant I would ask people what was the best advice​ they could give me for when I went into labor. My best friend told me to to take a birth class. She said it helped her husband learn how he could best assist her during labor. Her husband made all the difference in keeping her calm, relaxed, and focused on giving birth. After knowing that I went ahead and enrolled in Jana's class. At first,​ I thought my husband would be bored learning about this topic, but to my surprise​​,​ he always looked forward to attending class. The group was made up of four couples, so it was all pretty intimate and Jana made the class really interactive and fun! She uses different methods of teaching-workbook/reading, youtube videos, dolls, visuals, games, and discussion. My husband and I were clueless about the labor process, but by the time we completed Jana's course, I felt comfortable that my husband was going to be a good coach. My husband and I participated in the birthing class and it was an amazing experience. We looked forward to it every week as it was a special time for us and it was a dedicated set time that we devoted to one another and to the group. I loved Jana & Supported Birth so much that I attended her doula training as well. I previously attended DONA training and loved it but found that the close-knit group that Jana's class provided was so important to my growth as a doula. In addition to being open and knowledgable, she challenged us to move outside of our comfort zone and really examine who we are as women so that we can better support our clients. Okay. My wife gave birth. In our tiny, one bedroom apartment. And it was amazing. I can't speak for my wife, who was doing all the pushing and sweating and birth giving, but for me, this birth experience was darn near ideal. We were in the comfort of our own home. My wife was free to move around, nothing hooked up to her, and able take her time delivering our baby boy. My wife wanted a natural birth, with no medical interventions, and honestly, that scared the crap out of me. But Jana's class took away all my concerns and helped me understand that birth is a very natural process. As she says "If you're alone in the forrest and go into labor, what are you going to do? Give birth." :) People have been doing it all over the world, without hospitals, for centuries. Because of her class, I wasn't worried about my wife or the health of our baby. I was able to be present, and be there to support my wife. After holding my new son and being in awe of the whole experience, I was even more grateful for Jana and her classes. You and your husband (birth partner/coach/friend/lover/etc) will come out of this class knowing more about childbirth than you probably want to! It is very informative in a supportive, comfortable environment. Our class had 4 other couples (from all around the world) and we had a great group dynamic. My husband and I took Jana's class in addition to the class at Cedars. Some of the info was repeated in both classes, but it was important and we will never forget it! Jana's class had a more comfortable setting to ask questions, get to know other expecting parents and come up with your own birth plan. The class at the hospital had 15 other couples and it moved at such a fast pace we hardly had time to ask any questions. I'm glad we took the Supported birth class, because, at the end of the day, I was comfortable knowing my husband was prepared, I had a fairly good grasp of what to expect and I wasn't afraid. Jana is a great teacher, she knows a ton about childbirth and is great for anyone who wants to be prepared going into labor. Price was about $325 for 8 classes. read more

As a first time mom I can not express how much this class has prepared me and my partner for becoming parents. From the beginning of our search on birthing courses the choice was clear to us that Jana's class was the way to go. She offered exactly what we were looking for a natural childbirth course that encompassed everything there is to be prepared for in the birthing process when things do not go as planned. Including covering what to do in the case of not making it to the hospital in time, which in our case proved to be the most useful and important aspect of the class. On 9/22/2015 my boyfriend delivered (completely unplanned) our newborn baby at home without complications thanks to having taken Jana's class. If you're a type A, super driven, high performing, #boss like I am, then this is the class for you! I know what you're thinking: 7 weeks. 2-3 hours per class. This is too much of a commitment! We thought it, and our husbands were especially wary of it; we almost had to drag them to class. But after just 15 minutes in Jana's presence, you'll quickly realize how wrong you were and how glad you are that you actually pulled the trigger and signed up for this class. As first-time parents who were due in August 2020, we knew we needed to gain some knowledge on what to expect from the birthing process. Jana shares an incredible wealth of information in an objective, fact-based way, never judging how you feel or what you want to do with your birth. She simply presents the information, helps you think through the pros and cons, and then lets you make your own decision on how to proceed. What I found most impactful from Jana's teaching were her role-playing scenarios and various learning exercises, including understanding the pain we may experience and the different massage/laboring techniques we could utilize. It turns out, there really IS a lot to learn and process about this huge, life-changing event; and the class isn't just about coping with labor- it's about absorbing a new way of thinking, which is a skill needed after becoming a parent! We leveraged every single thing we learned in our own birth experience, and as new parents, and we've been texting with Jana every step of the way! During COVID times, finding that human connection became increasingly important to us, and Jana's home was warm and inviting. She has been doing virtual classes during the pandemic, but she made an exception to do in-person courses for us with another couple whom we have been quarantining with. Jana practiced all the COVID safety precautions to ensure we all felt comfortable. Learning with Jana in-person was a huge game changer for us that we felt we could not have achieved virtually. Both our husbands came out of the first class with eyes wide open and in awe of how much they had already learned and how excited they were to continue on. We are indebted to Jana for how she prepared us for labor/birth, and she has become family as a result. This review is long overdue! My husband and I took this class when I was pregnant with our first daughter and it was one of the best choices we every made. Jana is an expert in childbirth and her warm and caring presence really helped calm all my fears and apprehensions about the birthing process. Her class really brought me closer together with my husband and we have such wonderful memories because of the experience we had at Supported Birth. Lots of laughs and good times! Her class also helped me deal with the unexpected change in our birth plan, when I had to have a C-Section vs. a natural birth, which is what I really wanted. I cannot say enough about Jana and this class. We drove from the Valley each week to attend the class in West Los Angeles and it was totally worth it! read more

I found Jana's information on Yelp. I signed my husband and I up for the 8 week class. At first I wasn't sure if I was ready for such a long course, but I figured it would be helpful for my husband as well. We both found this class to be beneficial regarding birth, what to expect, what rights you have in the hospital, calming effects during birth, etc. I do have to say, my husband and I went into labor knowing a lot more than we would have if we had not joined Jana's class. we were educated on medication, the process and everything else that applies to birth. As I won't go into detail about our birth, it was a great experience, but getting back to the rating of Jana's courses, I would recommend her to any newly expecting parents. We did recommend her to one of our other friends who joined the 7 & 8 class. On a flip side, I do have to say some things seemed a bit repetitive with info. Also not too sure if 8 courses is necessarily needed but there's something in every class that's helpful for each individual. I could have also done without the relaxation after each class session but that can also be because there were 12 people in one living room trying to get comfortable and we also have a dog we needed to hurry home for in order to feed him on time. overall, it was very informative...be prepared for the multitude of birthing videos Jana shows you :) read more
