It truly lives up to the hype. It's a massive flea market with everything from vintage treasures to totally random finds if you're looking for something unique, you'll probably find it here. We arrived around 11am (they open at 8 I believe). Parking was organized with staff directing traffic, and it cost $10 cash. There were tons of unique vendors, and we ended up buying tea-infused whiskey, moonshine cider, seasonings, and plenty of treats. Many vendors offer samples, which makes it fun (and hard not to buy everything). There's no shortage of food options. We spent about 5 hours there and walked around 15,000 steps. You can rent scooters, wagons, or shopping carts, which is helpful. Restrooms were clean with attendants and changing tables. There are covered areas and lots of shade trees, so even at 80° it felt comfortable. Pet friendly too we brought our fur baby. We'll definitely be back. read more

I recently passed through Canton Texas for the first time in what has to be 30+ years. Back in the 60s,they formalized what they called first Monday Trade days. Basically a swap meet where people came from far and wide to buy sell and trade mostly useful stuff. Antiques,tools,etc. Over the years it grew bigger and bigger gradually loosing its focus and selling more and more junk. I haven't been in decades but could see how spread out all the sales sites have become. It's interesting one time I'm told but nothing like it used to be. read more

First Monday Trade Days has been kind of a tradition in Texas for a LONG time, in fact most of my life in Texas. I come here occasionally so that I remember why it's been so long since the last time I came here. It seems like you used to be able to find some bargains here. But that was really not the case for me on my visit. In fact, it was quite the office it I found a bunch of over priced items that I can buy much cheaper at stores right in the Dallas area without having to travel to Canton. It's also very hot and I'm not sure who thought having outside vendors in the Texas summer heat is a good idea. It was straight up miserable this past weekend when I was there. We came to browse on a Sunday and parked in the first lot for just $5.00 - super easy. I was pleasantly surprised by how much of the market was under cover or even indoors (which is a huge plus in July in Texas!). There's so much to see. We walked around for about 3 hours, taking a nice break inside the convention building where there's a restaurant, tables, and air conditioning - perfect for cooling off. Even though we didn't come looking for anything specific, we still ended up leaving with a few great finds. There's truly something for everyone here. There's also a large outdoor section, but the heat was a bit much this time - we'll definitely check that part out next time when it's cooler. I appreciated the number of food and drink vendors, plus plenty of bathrooms along the way. Overall, a fun and worthwhile visit! 2 days to see it all. This has to be the biggest open air market in Texas! Anything and everything. Lots of food, high prices, but lots of fun. Make sure you get a burger at noon. We waited till the end around 330 and they were out at some places and cash only at others. End of day no cash left. It was packed and Internet service slow to non existent. There were thousands of people and everyone trying to use Internet at once. It was difficult to purchase some things. Sunday was way more enjoyable than Saturday. Way less people Sunday. Parking $5 daily. I suggest you pay otherwise you are walking a long way for free parking. At the end of a day you put in 17,000 steps you do not want to walk a quarter mile to the car carrying stuff. If you get there early, strong 830-900 you get a shaded spot up front at the center lot. read more

This is a great shopping spot. Some trade items brought memories of our younger life back to us. We saw things Mickey Mouse telephones, tea set, Barbies, books etc. Vendors were so kind. I was impressed to see most food vendors sold bottles of water for $1. Other events often sell water for $2-$5. We got corn dogs and cheese corn dogs, the fried corn dog was so tasteful and crispy. Be prepared to walk! We arrived early Sunday morning about 9 am and found a great parking spot without having to pay. There is $5 parking and up to $20. They have So much to see and eat and we did not see everything. They also had live music!!! They sale Fiesta brand plates here at a great price. Food vendors take cash, not many offer card options! It could be way better than what I saw, I was expecting something bigger and better than Traders Village but sadly they don't really have a ton of vendors. There was a lot of store type items and patio furniture, iron works. I mainly search for collectibles out in the wild and it was so disappointing to see that this was more mom & pop store type stuff. If it's not too hot, it is a fine way to while a way a day. If you get there later in the day rather than the morning as we did, I'm certain it is less crowded and parking is only $5, rather than $10. There is so much stuff - you are NOT going to miss out on anything. WOW, loads and loads of people rent the scooters to get around, we walked and walked to get our 10,000 steps and didn't repeat a thing. Tip: Bring $10 cash for parking and ignore the outskirts of the market. Head straight to the middle and work your way out. This place is so awesome. It was my first time visiting and I only got to hit up about 1/5 of the place. Bring cash since most vendors here are a cash only. The food here is akin to the Texas State Fair and a fraction of the price. There's so many cool things here. Gorgeous flowers, garden decor, guns, antiques, coins, furniture, clothing; you name it, they have it. You can bring your dogs if you want, but I don't recommend it. It gets so hot for the poor things and because it get so crowded, I've seen dogs get stepped on. Also, get the fried pies here. This was my second time visiting the trade days... and it was just as enjoyable as the first time except with much better weather. We spent the whole day walking around, and I still don't think we got thru all the different vendors. My favorite part was seeing all the cute pups walking around. The flea market offers so much... really anything you are looking for it is there. You can find plants, furniture of all kinds, antiques, shoes and clothes, pet accessories, and more. There is also plenty of food and dessert stands. Kettle corn is a must try! I definitely recommend bringing a wagon or rolling cart if you plan to buy items. Oh yes, I have very fond memories of running down to Canton on a mini road trip with my mama when I was little. It's the ultimate flea market experience!! Over the long weekend, I had a hankering to leave town and then realized it was first Monday/trade days weekend!! If this is something you've never done, I recommend starting by going online to make sure you know the ins and outs of this glorious event! HYDRATE and make sure you are able to spend time exploring if you go this time of year. There are a crazy number of booths and vendors to cover so if you are not into walking 10k + miles to see it all get you a scooter or buggy. You may rent them up in the main entry. Also, arrive early and grab a parking spot downtown. It's a small walk over to the event but worth it to save $10-20 bucks for crowded/closer parking. No one wants to get stuck in that mix! I was glad I arrived before lunch time on Saturday to park downtown. Super cute retail spots downtown as well. I was on my way to the trails in east Texas so this is a wonderful pit stop. Bring cash, however a lot of vendors have the card machines. You can shop for new items, clothes/jewelry/home goods galore, or if you are into upcycling there's knick knacks for that. I ate light in their downtown square but they have all the funnel cakes, kettle corn etc. There's shade in spots and they sell bottled water. I stopped by Sunday as well on my way home and they had live music and cute little brewery areas to chill and enjoy. Best of all it is a free entry so even if you just want to walk around for the fun of it there's that option as well. But, arrive OPEN MINDED and allow time to walk around, people watch, shop til you drop, and have fun. read more

This is our first time here and we ended up parking in the blue lot which is off of flea market drive. Parking is $10 dollars. However, there is another lot on the other side which parking is $5 dollars. The parking lot is mainly full of sand and rock and can be very bumpy. This place can get busy especially around the 11am, I guess because that is when people get out of church so make sure you show up early in the morning for parking like at 8:30am. The other thing is to bring lots of water, rolling metal cart and cash as most places that is all they take or some take Venmo or Cashapp. It is a lot of walking as well. They do have ATM's, but I am sure they charge a $4 dollar fee per transaction. The metal buildings do not have air conditioning and only a couple of buildings that do have it. I am sure during the summer it can get really hot as in March it was getting up there. You can get lost there as there are many vendors and it is all over the place, wish they had signs to direct us on locations as it begins to look the same afterwards. I do not think we saw everything but I believe we covered everything is 5 hours as we arrived at 8:30am and stayed till around 2pm. Bathrooms were not too bad as there are many located in other areas. I was expecting it we nasty, but they were decent. The food prices are not too bad as we thought they would charge state fair prices, but they did not. We ended up eating a variety of meals there like lemonade, steak sandwiches, tacos, corn dogs, corn in a cup, fried pie and ice cream. As for stuff they saw, they sell mostly anything you can think of. But I saw many lawn and garden items, tools, candy, salsa and sauces, signs, antiques, furniture, antiques, Trump memorabilia and many more to list out. It did get really crowded around 1pm as there were wall to wall people. Overall, you can get lost here as I probably would, but I believe we covered around 80 percent of the place, there might be more. read more

What a fun time! Disneyland for power shoppers! An amazing array of everything you can think you might need, or realize you do! Plenty of food options (think county fair), and the opportunity to up your step count! I recommend renting a cart to cover the grounds if you have any kind of mobility issues or want to save your feet. The best way is to reserve ahead, because they go fast! Free admission, $5 parking, all very reasonable. I went on Thursday, and it was way less crowded than the weekend. Definitely the time to go! read more

We couldn't believe they actually charged for handicapped parking -- and $10, too -- while having that parking lot further away than many $5 lots. That is just wrong on so many levels. We also couldn't believe they lack rest areas for people to just have a place to sit down somewhere with a little shade. The only places we saw that offered that were attached to food vendors, requiring you to spend money for food or drinks. Even on "cooler" days, rest areas are needed! It was too hot to walk the outside areas, and it was even worse in some of the buildings, due to a lack of ventilation. Doubt if we will ever go back -- no bargain is worth the third-world country conditions this town offers those who come to spend so much money. Such a cool experience! First time here and really enjoyed it! Theres so many entrances and areas in this big flea market and will probably take a couple days to really get through the entire thing! Only bad thing is that you cant walk around the entire thing and must move your car and Park at different entrances for different things. Parking is 5 dollars a car. I reccomend going to the entrance where theres animals and dogs! So much fun and you can find a good deal! I came with my family to help my aunt get a new puppy and found a beautiful aussie for 600! Definitely reccomend wearing sunblock there is a lot of sun and not too much shade. Also wear some sunglasses cause the path is dirt and when its windy the specs on tje ground fly around and can get in your eyes! It's all outdoors and if you do go to the dog ally, bring some wet wipes to wash your hands! There is germ x all around but it would be nice to carry your own. Theres food there but it's mainly like bbq, tacos, hamburger, corn dogs, funnel cakes stuff like that. Also make sure you bring cash because most vendors only accept cash! I have heard about this place from coworkers and finally had a chance to go for June 2021. I made the2.5 hr drive from Fort Worth to Canton Texas to see what the fuzz was about. As a heads up, download directions because I had trouble getting signal out there. There are some signs promoting the trade days but they can easily be missed. After you exit the highway there are smaller yard signs pointing you toward the trade days. Parking was $5 so bring cash beforehand for sure. There are ATM on site but a lot of vendors do accept both cash and card. The grounds are huge so make sure you pay attention where you parked, they do have a trolley pulled by a tractor to shuttle people from the parking grounds to the main area. There are no paved parking so its all grass, heads up is hot and dusty so wear comfy shoes/clothes. I suggest bring water or even a small cooler to save you some money because it can get expensive buy food/drinks here. There are plenty of food options (state fair food) and have plenty of bathrooms. The bathroom I went to had AC (yay) they did have public water fountains but I would not be wanting to drink from those. There are several building where vendors set up to sell things but the majority of them are set up outside. There are rows upon rows, tents past tents of old and new thing. Handmade items and many DIY/one of a kind jewelry, furniture and clothes can be found here. Many of these items are overprice and some are a really good bargain you just have to go with an open mind and an idea of what your looking for. I know there are hotels in town that visitors stay in for the whole weekend to see everything and there are even RV sites for those traveling from out of state. I think is pretty cool how much work they put into keeping people coming back. I went on a Sunday and got there around 3pm and spend almost 3 hours walking and did not get a chance to see everything. When i got there i saw a lot of the merchants were taking down their set up so I was kinda sad i didnt get to see it in full swing. I ended up leaving after 5 or 6pm to make my 2,5hr drive back to fort worth. Really good place for people watch but there were a couple of people I wish i did not see. Even tho Mr Trump lost the election there were many MANY sellers here with MAGA flags, Trump 2020 and confederate flags for sale... eww. I saw them and just kept walking because I dont like how that specific crow of people treat others. Every merchant I did encounter was nice and when i got lost and asked for directions it was always with a friendly hello and ended with a friendly 'come back again soon, drive home safely'. Even if i was just walking past a merchant that was putting up their stuff they see me passing by and say 'have a safe trip back home, thanks for coming yall'. So that was really nice to hear. Overall i would recommend coming out here here at least once but definitely not in the middle of summer, bring a hat, wear sunblock, bring water/cooler with snacks and food to save money, a wagon to roll your new treasures in and cash on hand. read more

I was really excited to do some antiquing here, but it was extremely disappointing. First of all, I thought that antiques were the primary focus of the market. Among the outside vendors, I would say antiques were about half of the merchandise (if that). But the biggest disappointment was the prices!! Every single antique dealer had antique store prices (and higher!) on their items. Even with the one thing I ended up purchasing, I had just purchased a comparable item slightly cheaper at an antique store in California. It's a cool place to come if you just want to come browse or if you're not looking for antiques on a budget. It's just not flea market pricing at all. read more

I have been going here over 30 years and it just keeps growing and growing. It's a short trip from North Dallas and traffic is not too bad. We make it out several times a year and try not to miss the November dates to see all the holiday items. Now there are other shopping areas as you enter town and it's worth stopping. Give them a try and be prepared to walk. Purchase a rolling cart for your future trips so you don't have to carry all your purchases. Trust me on that. I always regret when I don't bring ours. Return trip to Canton & have to say it has gotten much better. More frequent trash pick up & less Scott use by teens noted. The one area they still need to work on is to have more benches and seating areas, especially out in the individual sellers booths. Magnificent place, and very well organized, however, while our country has moved to a racial/immature phase, Canton First Monday trade days is not a family place anymore. While walking the grounds, I witnessed a Hispanic teenage girl address a White older man when he sneezed "Bless you", the man ignored the girl, then the girl's dad repeated, "Bless you", the man then looked at him and said, "yeah, thanks". The many "Trump supporters" selling propaganda is a bit overrated, while this is a free country, the way is carried out is beyond propaganda wearing individuals, it seems it empowers people to be racist and feel they have better rights and/or feel supremacist empowerment. While I stayed away from engaging with most of the individuals, we just walked and admired the very nice gathering of individuals just out for a walk. We walked out to our vehicle and left the premises. We will not be returning to First Monday trade days, ever, it is hard to understand how certain things just overtake individuals minds carrying a demeanor that takes us back to an era that most we all remember with sadness. Going out to First Monday has always been a fun experience. It's a good way to spend a day or two browsing thru the various shops to find something unique. You used to be able to wander around and feel completely at home. Unfortunately, the entire event has become a feeding frenzy for everything Trump / MAGA related. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how unpatriotic and uninformed it may be. But First Monday these days is littered with people who seem to be trying their best to deliberately be as rude and offensive as possible. Trump merchandise is everywhere and many vendors have entire sections devoted to it. Confederate flags and related merchandise has also proliferated since we visited last year. Many people walk around wearing their "Lets Go Brandon" shirts. Look hard enough and I'm sure you'll find a Russian flag or two somewhere. Don't expect to see too many peeps wearing masks. Maybe 1 person in 50 wears one; it that worries you than you might want to consider skipping First Monday. Rather than simply minding his own business, one vendor provocatively questioned a member of our group (an older man in his 70s) why he was wearing a mask. All in all, it is a different experience than in the past. It was still fun to wander thru the pavilions and check out the different merchandise. The vendors and merchandise are still the same, but a much uglier and less welcoming atmosphere lies just below the surface. read more

I don't recommend going on Thursdays for sure. This was our first post-pandemic outing and it was disappointing. Lots of repetitive junk. Most vendors were selling the same overpriced white-washed stuff, lots of the same ruffled clothing for middle-aged moms and many, many closed shops/stalls. Also, where are the animals? Just went for my first, but not last, time. First I'll rave about the food...most of it better than many sit down restaurants. Not overly priced and your plate will be loaded. Share with a friend so you have room to try it all. Over 6,000 vendors is what I've heard; we didn't see 1/4 of it all and we went for two days. Weather you like crafts, clothes, holiday decor, or if you just like rummaging through junky flea market type stuff; there is something for everyone. If you have a pup who likes to wander with you, bring it...everyone else does weather they have one or six. But do watch out...weather handicapped or not, there are the motor cart people and they do think they have the right of way. Keep your little ones close. If you're able, I'd recommend Thursday and Friday...Saturday was a whole lot busier although the place is so huge, you're still able to get your shopping fix! While most of the indoor vendors took cards, the flea market area was cash only. You'll also want cash for parking. Comfy shoes, layered clothes, a wagon...you'll be good to go. read more

This was my destination for my road trip from FL to Texas. Why? #globaljunking This flea market started more than a century ago and has become home to some of the most exciting, cutting-edge home furnishings, antiques and collectibles that can be found anywhere. It's a bit tricky to figure out the lay of the land via the map from and the hotel and website but very easy once you get there. 1st off the market is not on Monday - it runs from Thursday to Sunday. Yet some vendors are there all week. So you can go at anytime it would seem. There were rows and rows of junk/antiques to be discovered. Prices ranged from the insanely over priced to darn right cheap. Spendyer items were inside the pavilions. On Saturday, there was lot of negotiations and bargains to be had. It's not all junk stuck -- lots of lawn art, New Tupperware, tube socks etc. Since I can not live on junk alone -- there was food options. Corn dogs the size of your forearm, tons of fried stuff - think Carnival food. I highly recommend Benito's for the catfish and tamales. There are restrooms not port-a-potties. The ones that I seems to have found have shower curtain instead of doors but I heard a rumor that there are bathrooms with doors on the grounds. Small price to pay for a day of junking. What a disappointment! There are miles of stuff that looks plain wore out, and needing burial at the landfill. There is tons of cheap Chinese goods. There are tons of overpriced antiques. Scooter rental is expensive! Carnival foods start at $7 for a drink. There are a few good deals to be found, you just have to look through all the trash. Was defrauded by a vendor selling fishing equipment, -$135. Got no response from management. Going to Round Top, where the quality and prices are much better. Would not go again. Found better stuff at the local yard sales, and cheaper, too. They DO have free parking, tho. read more

This place has so much stuff to go through. I was only able to come down for 1 day which is not enough time to go through everything. Before parking, I would recommend doing your research on which parking lot to park in for what you want to go through. Not knowing where we needed to park, we parked at the parking lot that leads to the civic center and the garage sell items. The Civic Center is an air conditioned building with mostly jewelry, ammo, and knives. They do have a small place to be able to sit to relax or eat food. I would recommend one of the vendors outside though. They seemed to have better choices and prices for what you get. They also let you bring your own food and drinks if you didnt want to buy what they have there. I would also recommend that you bring some type of wagon or something on wheels. With soo much stuff to walk through and possibly buy, you wouldn't want to have to carry that stuff around. I saw a couple.of people that were selling buggies but thought there would have been more people selling them. They also do provide scooters scooters that you can rent. Most people riding them seemed like they were having a lot of fun on them. So I would again, recommend finding what your shopping for and park according to that parking area.
