Continuing my explore through Friendswood and Pearland, I come across a coffee shop called First Cup. It was very much off my radar because my default was another well established coffee roaster in Pearland. But these guys are roasters too. And the coffee is good. A lot of times I have joked in the past that the better the graphics of the coffee bags and the T-shirts , more "iffy" the coffee may be. But in this case, I'm pleased to advise that their merchandise and their coffee get a thumbs up from me. Recommended. I tried a pour over, and also an Americano. And enjoyed both very much. It is a large venue and very popular. And they have a private room or two for business work, if you need to do something with your laptop. and another private room with toys for kids to play. All in all a very impressive operation and I shall be back. Though I may stick with just an Americano, as, pour over options carry a heavier price tag. Stopped in for a latte on my girl's day self-care day. Loved the ambiance, lots of space, tables, couches etc. It was about 12:30, and good amount of people set up doing their thing. The only negative thing I can say about the ambiance on this day, was that there seemed do be a pretty decent Mom and kid group going on at the same time...and please I get it I have a kid and understand they can be rambunctious, however, I could see people were attempting to enjoy a nice quiet rainy day atmosphere so not sure I'd take my kid tbh for the peace of others...just my opinion. First Cup is a huge place with a large homey anterior. Though cozy, the place was very crowded when I came on a weekday night. It was an even more crowded on weekends but I like that they are open until 11pm on days I need to study later than usual, though it my be difficult to find an open outlet if its as busy as it was when I visited. Their matcha latte is decent;I believe it comes sweetened with vanilla regularly according to the barista. For me however, the matcha was too grainy and not as earthy as I would like. The aftertaste wasn't that pleasant and for what I paid I was pretty disappointed. The barista was kind enough to add more vanilla syrup when I asked for it at no extra charge but unfortunately that didn't change how much I enjoyed my drink and I ended up pretty disappointed. Their caramel vanilla latte was sweet and their blue butterfly shaken espresso was interesting but I don't really think they were drinks tasty enough for me to want to order again. This is a very long overdue review. I love First Cup Coffee. I have been here several times. I love the ambiance of First Cup. It is a bit American rustic, but modern. I love the flag they have in the shop. They also have little meeting rooms you can reserve and rent out for a fee per hour. The staff is great. The coffee is good. I do wish there were some more protein rich options, but maybe that is just me. I go there because I love the atmosphere, comfy couches, and other unique things about this place. It is clean and very comfortable. They stay open to a decent hour as well. There are several bible study groups and college students that meet here. I did use one of the meeting rooms for an hour, it was nice quiet and clean space. The cool thing was finding encouraging notes in the desk. When First Cup Coffee opened last year, I had mixed feelings. I was intrigued, but with the intrigue came some concern because they are located across the street from my favorite local coffee spot (which I viewed as a threat). I have visited First Cup a few times now and I have to admit, the coffee is really good AND my favorite coffee spot is still in business so it's a win win. I've gone through the drive thru and I've gone inside to order a coffee to go. On my first visit I had a 16 oz. iced White Mocha with oat milk. It was really good and the sweetness of the drink was perfect. On my next two visits, I ordered a 12 oz. Blue Butterfly Shaken Espresso with oat milk. The 12 oz. cup is pretty small, but it's a great size for a quick afternoon pick me up. The Blue Butterfly is really good once it's stirred. It's a very pretty drink, but if you drink it as it's presented, the top layer is very bitter. The drink gets sweeter with each layer. The staff have been friendly and helpful each visit. I've never had to wait longer than 5 minutes for my drink. This place has tons of seating (according to a Community Impact article, they can seat 130-150 people indoors and 30-35 people on the patio). The space feels very homey though when I visited, it seemed like a lot of people were working or studying. It was pretty quiet considering how many people were there. You can reserve office space or a conference room online or in person. They roast their own coffee which you can purchase (whole beans, grounds, or k-cups). Each coffee flavor is named after "firsts" like The Washington and the Tontine (1st coffeehouse in America). Great coffee and great service! This review will be short and sweet, go here if you want a place to work or study with OK coffee, go to Pearland coffee roasters if you want much better coffee at the expense of a smaller place to drink it in. I have extremely high standards for coffee, and for a place that roasts their own beans, you think there'd be something like roast dates on their bags or at least higher quality beans with more light roast options to showcase them. These are moderate quality beans, which can only be medium or dark roasted, which hides a lot of the imperfections. The drinks are also inconsistently made with poor quality control while still charging as much as a much higher quality Cafe would. I came here on opening day and have come back again a handful of times really just to study or work on projects but it's sad that it could be so much more. I mainly brew at home so will continue to support Pearland coffee roasters by buying their beans exclusively and continue going there in person for drinks whereas 1st cup is more of a place I'll visit once in a blue moon. If I start to see better roasting with higher quality beans and more emphasis on single origins and at the very least roast dates with light roast, I'll do a secondary review but until then, this is a firm 2.5 stars rounded to three on yelp. read more

This is one of, if not the, biggest coffee shops i have seen on the southeast side of town. It is great for those with kids, want to study, need to get work done, hang out, and rent rooms for more private or group meetings. Lots of pastries to choose from and I have only gotten the empanadas, which are big but delicious. They are able to warm it up for you also. The coffee is okay to good but I am basing it off of just getting the latte and experimenting with adding different syrups. I just think I haven't found the best combinations. The kids club room is adorable and awesome! They have a kids table and a coffee/cash register station for pretend play, and a TV so they can sing along to Disney if their heart desires. Haha. Parking is along the front and side of the building as well as a parking lot for several businesses in the same center. Well let's start with the bad. Price for a large cold brew is 4.75. I was charged just under $6. I questioned the charge and they said prices weren't updated. I then clarified this is just a cold brew not nitro. I was told yes. Needless to say I received a nitro. So I assume I was incorrectly charged for a nitro cold brew because even those prices don't add up. Place is huge though. Lots of seating. Wow. Seriously the best coffee shop I've been to in a long time. It reminds me of 1 of my favorite coffee shops in Seattle. Homey, cozy, warm, inviting, and just overall great coffee shop vibes. Walking in, this place is spacious! With a variety of seating areas between tables, couches, bar seats, and everything in between. You order and pick up your order at the counter if you're hanging out inside, but they also have a drive thru if you're on the go. They also feature a kids area, 3 smaller office/study rooms to rent, a big conference room to rent, and an in-house roastery area to watch where the magic happens. This 1st visit we tried their seasonal egg nog latte with almond milk, and my sister got a sugar free vanilla almond milk latte. Both drinks were perfect. Not too sweet, strong freshly roasted espresso, and just the right amount of creaminess. I'd say my only complaint was why some drinks are served in a paper to go cup, and some are served in real ceramic coffee mugs. I was hoping for a mug to enjoy my coffee, but only got the to go cup when dining in. If you're looking to work from "home" or need to host a meeting, these conference rooms are definitely the spot to do it. They have QR codes to scan that bring you to their reservation calendar online. But even if you don't need a private room, there are plenty of tables to study or get work done at. Honestly a huge plus for the number of tables, chairs, and outlets they have. I'm going to be a regular here for sure. After this 1st visit, I knew this was going to be my "regular spot." This shop used to be a furniture/interior design space that has been transformed into one of the largest and nicest coffee shops that I have ever been to visit. I seriously should have taken more pictures but the place was full. There are lots of sitting areas as well as private rooms with seating. Such a beautiful coffee shop! It was my first time to visit today and I was blown away at how beautiful and spacious this shop was. I got a small sugar free vanilla latte with almond milk, and my brother got a medium egg nog latte with almond milk. I usually try a sugar free vanilla almond milk latte every time I visit a new coffee shop, and First Cup's did not disappoint. The egg nog latte was luscious even with the almond milk. There's 4 different study rooms available for rent that are fully equipped with outlets and dry erase boards. For food, they do offer pastries that we'd love to try on our next visit.
