    Balsamic Steak Salad
    Caryn K.

I came here and ordered to go on a Thursday and I was very pleased with my experience. I opted for a balsamic steak salad. FYI: The picture does not do this salad justice! It was loaded with blue cheese crumbles, walnuts and sun dried tomatoes. The service was quick and the inside was clean. I appreciated the wide variety of options available to customize/build your own salad. This was pricier than your average salad, but well worth it.

Ate here for the first time. I was at Camp Bullis and felt like something semi healthy so went on Yelp and found this place. I'd never heard of it as I don't come to the North West side of town very much (almost never). It was good, I wasn't mad at it. It didn't change my life, but I'd eat there again and am glad I found it. The restaurant itself was very clean and modern. I got the Asian Chicken Salad. You can build your own, but I don't like too many choices, too much pressure. I'd recommend.

    Bacon and egg salad wrap

Went today for the first time at lunch time. The guy told me they were behind when I made my order on the phone and it would be 20 minutes. No problem, my fault for not ordering online earlier. I drive over and walk in and I can tell they are all working so hard and in addition to what I'm sure were many online orders, there were walk-ins coming like crazy too. Still, all of the guys behind the counter were so nice and trying to get to everyone and they apologized for the wait. Let me tell you. This bacon & egg salad wrap might not sound like much... But it was GOOD. If you love boiled eggs like I do, this was like the best, grown-up version of a bacon and egg taco/burrito ever! The peppers on the side were roasted and salted to perfection. I will definitely be going back to try more things and to get this bacon and egg wrap until I get sick of it.

Plenty of seating, good location, great food, and friendly staff - what else could you want? It's walk up counter style ordering. They have a dozen or so salads or wraps you can choose from, or you can elect to "build your own." If you build your own, the protein options are steak, grilled salmon (each $5), chicken, and tofu ($3 each). The small salad is $8 and is quite bountiful and filling. Large salad is $10, or you can go with a wrap for $9. I had the small build your own salad (again, it's a decent size although it's a small) with the pine nut vinaigrette. The salad was good, but for some strange reason, they start making the salad by putting the dressing in the bottom of the bowl and then adding all of the fixin's before finally mixing it all up. This is ok for most dressings, but the pine nut vinaigrette dressing is pretty thick (almost like pesto consistency) and it didn't mix in very well like the typical ranch, vinaigrette, etc. dressings do. On the plus side, quinoa is not an extra charge or counted as a protein as I have seen at similar places.

    Chicken Caesar salad.

Good Caesar salad but not worth $21. No grilled salmon available until after the holidays???? Seems like one of the 7 people working could have ordered some salmon. Probably need to work on that as well as the whole pricing thing. Again, it was a good salad but not worth $21. It's not enough to just offer your customers "an alternative"; it must be " a better alternative" or they're going to stay with what they know. Sálata has a little better price point for their salads if you want to compare.

First time: service was cool-shoulderish but the food was fantastic. We were all BLOWN AWAY. I thought the price a little high for what you get. I swear, there was an issue with my order. I'm telling you now...I didn't order the tofu, so when they delivered it to my table I asked....but they showed me my receipt, which said I did. I was skeptical, but whatever. I think the touchscreen ordering screwed me... Y'all, I wouldn't order tofu in a million years, I don't like it...but ended up eating the entire dish. It was fantastic! Talk about being surprised. Today, was extremely careful on the touchscreen when ordering, and went with the beef curry and chicken. My thoughts when it came out: is there even any beef in this? This is soup, not curry. Oh, and it's not even hot. It's barely even warm. Then, a co-worker was legit served the wrong dish. So, she goes to bring it to their attention, and the server borderline argues with her ...basically telling her "yes, that is what you ordered" - even though she had a receipt showing otherwise. Service is not friendly. Food costs too much. Ambiance is a mix of hole-in-the-wall, eclectic, retro...walls covered in weird posters. I like the vibe, seriously, I just wish the food was worth it and the people were nicer.

Try, in this given year to frequent a place maybe minutes from you. I am surrounded by spots I have never tried before. I am guilty of passing up a business based on its facade. Soups & Rolls definitely fits in this category. As I stated in my last review some of the best flavors in the city reside in the most precarious places. This place, which provides flavorful Vietnamese and Chinese fare is no different. It is another place in the Westside that quietly makes fantastic food. It used to be a Central American restaurant but in this area nothing is permanent. When I went the mistake was parking in the back. Not a problem, as I went to the proper entrance. In my opinion the age of Instagram and Tik Tok has aided bias on the part of the patron. Customers are seeking places that have an ambience to document their experiences. Via photoworthy posts on social media or selfies. So much so the meal becomes secondary or an afterthought. If you are expecting a giant dragon with waterfalls or a modern lighting that highlights the room you will not find it. Its table and seating is very humble, as the owners. We sat down and one of the friendly servers took our orders. Their menu is extensive with pho, lemongrass chicken, spring rolls etc. In addition they do carry some Chinese dishes in case you aren't into Vietnamese fare. But what cruel human being wouldn't be? I have always wanted to try a bahn mi for the longest time.. The thing is I'm not into pork. The owner suggested a beef one. I ordered that and a mango boba tea. My partner ordered spring rolls and a bowl of vermicelli. No sooner was I looking at the tiger painting on their wall did all food items arrive. Everything was hot and fresh. The bahn mi was gigantic. It was a huge french hoagie roll stuffed with beef, carrots and cilantro. I must confess I'm not a fan of cilantro but it fit here perfectly. The meat was tender and flavorful. It came with accompanying fries. I tried my partner's spring rolls and they were some of the best I have ever had. The rolls were fried with an equally flavorful filling. In addition the mango boba was really good. I like the consistency of mine to be thick. If I stick my straw into the boba and it stands straight up I know it is good. The chef came from the kitchen to check on us. He tried to explain that the bahn mi and the torta are very similar. But then again most cuisines share a commonality. I understand people's hesitancy to try a place in precarious neighborhoods. I implore you to try a place in your locale. If not, and you are up for an adventure please check out "Soups & Rolls" in the Westside. The service and food are both excellent. Next time I'm getting that big bowl of Pho with extra Sriracha sauce. First, I have to learn how to properly pronounce it.

I cannot recommend this Vietnamese restaurant enough. The pho was delicious!! Excellent service…read more Lots of places to sit.

Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks. (See update above to this review for when we returned the next night for after dinner drinks.)

Pros: - Attractive space - Waiter was fine, he was friendly enough. - They had a few gluten free items, which was a main reason we went, but they do NOT have a dedicated menu, you have to ask. - The burrata cheese and veggie board was great. Definitely the best part of the meal, although the gluten free toast was extra brown and crispy. The veggies had great flavor, though. Cons: - Ridiculously overpriced for the quality of the food. - Gluten free pasta was quite overcooked. It was mostly mush by the time I got it. I love that they HAVE gluten free options, but come on, it would help if you cooked them properly. It was barely edible. - Sauce was bland and too sweet. - There was no attempt or offering to make the experience more accessible for my disabled son. No plastic cups, etc. Would be nice if they had more inclusivity. All in all, almost $200 for lunch for a family of four. Definitely not worth the money.
