The work in question was mostly masonry repair for a pool crack, but it became clear very quickly that he was neither knowledgeable nor reliable. He constantly showed up late (when he showed up at all), invaded my privacy by looking up my personal profile on Facebook, and then lied about it by saying that I had looked him up. Completely unprofessional behavior. On top of that, he tried to charge $2,500 upfront before any work was completed, and then demanded another $2,500 after the supposed "completion"--even though he left the pool completely empty, which every real contractor knows can cause serious structural damage and new cracks. That alone could have cost me thousands. To be safe, I brought in a licensed masonry and construction contractor for a second opinion, and he confirmed what I already suspected: this guy didn't know what he was doing and was simply trying to take advantage of us. His exact words were that the original person I hired was "an idiot" just trying to take us for a ride. Save yourself the stress, money, and potential damage to your property--go with a licensed, experienced contractor who knows pools and masonry. This person is not trustworthy, not knowledgeable, and not worth your time.

Before moving forward, we met with 3 different contractors, and Mike was the only one who really understood our vision. We didn't want to tear out our existing concrete or patio cover, which made the project more complicated, but he was able to design around it and still deliver exactly what we were hoping for. That flexibility was a big reason we chose them. We broke ground on 9/15/25 and everything was complete by 11/10/25!!! It was crazy how fast everything went and he definitely did an amazing job coordinating all the teams to finish in a timely manner. We went with a custom setup that included a raised spa, Baja shelf, and two illuminated sheer descents, and everything came together really well. The spa might just be one of the biggest in town! The water features at night give the whole backyard a clean, finished look, with the lights. We also added the iAquaLink system, which has been super convenient for controlling everything from our phones. Like any build, there were a few minor things that came up along the way, but nothing major, and Mike has been responsive when we needed him. What stood out most is that he didn't disappear after the job was done-- Mike continues to be helpful when we've had questions or needed small adjustments. That kind of follow-through matters with a project like this, and it's a big reason we'd recommend CATAK. The level of professionalism and expertise was something we had never experienced before in any home project including building a custom spec home, let alone a swimming pool. Attention to detail and quality was built into the entire project and Mike was leading the entire way. All aspects of the project were handled with zero headaches on our end and there weren't any surprises or "gotcha" moments, Mike handled everything and always made us comfortable with the process, valued our input, and any offered changes from us without any fuss or hassle. We got quotes from several pool remodeling companies and Smart Swim came in right in the middle. We are strong believers on "you get what you pay for," and opted to go with them even though they were not the cheapest. From beginning to end, the guys at Smart Swim were easy to work with and truly wanted our project to come out great. After 30 years, it was time for our pool to have a remodel! Through the remodel, it was uncovered that we had many severe leaks, down to the rebar that needed to be fixed in some areas. Sam was great at making sure we understood the severity and that we were okay with any new costs that needed to be added. Not only did they do our pool, but also installed turf by the pool area and put pavers all around the pool and yard area. We also got the new gray gate installed from them as well, to replace the wooden fence in the yard (between the pool). **Noting that the perimeter wall/wooden top was painted black and sanded/stained by a different company. We truly appreciate their hard work and even when we had an immediate death in the family during their time working on our project, they were very respectful and gave us some space as needed.
