Aimee is the name of my hairstylist, and I've got to tell you, she's one of the best that I've ever had. She's young and energetic and has been cutting hair for several years. She even did my hair for my own wedding. She's so good that my entire family goes to see her. So, if you're in the Dartmouth area, be sure to check out Aimee and the salon. There's also a men's barber shop attached "Cole Harbour Barber" - for the guys who prefer the more old-fashioned shops.

You feel like…read moreit's the first day of school in a brand new place...who do you trust? who do you sit with at lunch? who won't steal your lunch money? Ok, ok...maybe a bit of an exaggeration but for me, I was clueless as to where to go! Luckily, someone I know just recommended One Block and I called on a Tuesday, got in on a Thursday. Quick, easy and no hassle. Robyn was my stylist and I was slightly skeptical, as I am not what you might call "cool" or "hip" and from all the word of mouth reviews, this was the newest and hippest place to go! I explained to Robyn some of my ideas of what I wanted and she took that and ran (not with her scissors, don't worry!) She explained what she thinks would work best while incorporating my own request! That along with the amazing Aveda products and scalp massage created an amazing and relaxing time. I didn't think it was unreasonably priced, as you are there more for the EXPERIENCE than just a cut or colour. I have always gone to salons, so I expect to spend a certain amount, and not always is it worth it. This was most definitely worth it! The only thing that may be hard for some to swallow is the slightly "hipster" feel. They may be the coolest shop in town, but they still welcome you and make sure you enjoy yourself as well as having a great deal of pride in their work. As a walking billboard of their talents, they want everyone to be happy and look great! (they also are amazing at unique haircuts which include shaving and straight sharp lines...if you can pull it off!) Now that I know how great they are, I will for sure be back. And if you just recently had your stylist move or are looking for a new place, that is as cool and they are talented, then look no further!!

I love love love love Thumpers…read more This is where I go to get my hair done, I am always 100% confident in the ability of the hair stylists here, although it is a bit expensive. I started my Thumpers experience on a bad foot actually, I got an ombre done with red in it and it faded so quickly, that after a week it was completely unnoticable. I'm glad I gave it a second chance as I've had nothing but great experiences from Thumpers! Rob did my hair last New Year's Eve and it was amazing. I asked for an updo that was a bit old fashioned since I was wearing a vintage dress, and he somehow gave my thin ass hair a beehive with curls at the back. I got so many compliments and felt amazing all night. i got hair extensions done here back in April and absolutely loved them. They use babe extensions and Vanessa, the lady who does them, knows her stuff. If you have thin hair like myself and want a confidence boost I can't speak enough for these extensions. When I had them I felt like a new person. I'm giving my hair a 4 month break at my stylist (Vanessa's) advice and can't wait to get them again. My extensions matched my hair perfectly and it was completely impossible to tell that I had them. Vanessa has since dyed my hair dark brown and gave me a nice cut. I have been dyeing my hair dark brown since I was a teenager, and it has always faded to some degree, but this stuff remarkably, has not faded a bit. I asked for a streak of lavender in the back, which didn't turn lavender, so Vanessa fixed it for free. They also sell the best hair products you can get. Oribe is an amazing brand that smells absolutely phenomenal, and is the only place in Halifax to sell R&Co products. They also carry Bumble and Bumble. Thumpers has a decent selection of nail polish and lip gloss from Smith and Co, which I've never heard of, but will forever be hooked on their lipgloss. My lips look amazing. Not to mention the front staff are great. They somehow always know my name when I come in and i always feel welcomed. Only thing is the high price point, I couldn't afford to get my roots touched up this month and am kicking myself for going elsewhere... You really see a difference here, so I consider it well worth the extra $.

My wife recently visited this salon with a very specific hairstyle in mind and showed the stylist…read moreexactly what she wanted. She also had her hair coloured, and the total cost was around $400. Unfortunately, the haircut/style she received was not what she had asked for at all. What was particularly frustrating was being told during the appointment that the stylist was not going to do the requested style because my wife could not replicate it herself at home. If a stylist is unable or unwilling to provide the requested style, that should be communicated before cutting the hair, not after the service is already underway. My wife is normally extremely respectful and rarely complains in the moment, but she is genuinely devastated by the result. I have never seen her this upset about her hair. She is now considering going to another salon and paying additional money to have it corrected before we travel. She has been a loyal customer of salons in general and is normally a very generous tipper, so the fact that she left without tipping reflects just how disappointed she was with the service. Unfortunately, she will not be returning to this salon and would not recommend it to others. When someone spends approximately $400 and clearly communicates the style they want, they should be able to expect the stylist to either deliver that service or be upfront beforehand if they cannot.

Not only is Michael an incredible stylist, he is friendly and fun to spend a few hours with (without being intrusive). His attention to detail and keen eye make it really easy to trust him with your hair, he knows what will look good on people and what won't, and he isn't scared to disagree or tell the truth. Every time I go to see Michael I walk out feeling like a million bucks, and they are really reasonably priced which is a bonus. Highly recommend both the salon, and Mike himself!

Hoping I'd have a similar experience here I booked an appointment. It seems difficult to get an appointment here on the weekends, so I was super excited when she told me there were spots open. I came in at 7 on a Saturday and gave the girl doing my hair a very simple instruction: I want curls but curls tend to fall out really easily with my hair. This is what I tell most of the stylists who do my hair and it seems to work well. She decided to do round brush curls initially. Which didn't work very well and was kind of painful as she had to de-tangle my hair multiple times, and there wasn't much curl in the end. She then asked if I wanted more curls in it. I said yes and she put some curling wand curls in it. It looked ok. It was $50 with a tip. Ouch... My hair fell out 10 minutes later and I ended up curling it myself and doing a much better job.
