My wife recently visited this salon with a very specific hairstyle in mind and showed the stylist exactly what she wanted. She also had her hair coloured, and the total cost was around $400. Unfortunately, the haircut/style she received was not what she had asked for at all. What was particularly frustrating was being told during the appointment that the stylist was not going to do the requested style because my wife could not replicate it herself at home. If a stylist is unable or unwilling to provide the requested style, that should be communicated before cutting the hair, not after the service is already underway. My wife is normally extremely respectful and rarely complains in the moment, but she is genuinely devastated by the result. I have never seen her this upset about her hair. She is now considering going to another salon and paying additional money to have it corrected before we travel. She has been a loyal customer of salons in general and is normally a very generous tipper, so the fact that she left without tipping reflects just how disappointed she was with the service. Unfortunately, she will not be returning to this salon and would not recommend it to others. When someone spends approximately $400 and clearly communicates the style they want, they should be able to expect the stylist to either deliver that service or be upfront beforehand if they cannot. read more

I'm located in Ontario and had been struggling to find particular Oribe products locally. I placed an order with Thumpers and was so impressed. The package arrived within just a couple of business days and everything was beautifully packed with care. Excellent service and a great experience overall. Thank you, Thumpers! read more

Buyer Beware...as always... but in this particular instance customers should know that Thumpers does not stand behind the products they sell at the front end.The section where the real money is...the retail section. After purchasing a high end mousse and using it only once with unsatisfactory results(Balmain)...did nothing but make my fine hair limp...was told there was nothing they could do...they have a no return policy. When it was pointed out that I was not told of their non return policy nor was their any signage indicating their practice...the reply was that "going forward they would rectify this however there was nothing they could do for me to make this right as they were a "local, small business". Yes that's why I try and support these types of businesses but that needs to work both ways. Customers need to get/expect a certain level of service from local businesses...otherwise why not buy on line?? I know I will going forward as on line shopping provides the same level of service Thumpers provides...where's Malcolm when you need some customer training? Yes I was dealing with the manager. read more

I would give 0/5 but that's not an option. I went in to schedule an appointment for a colour and cut and was appalled when one of the hair dressers informed me I can't afford their services. Never will I step foot in this shop again. read more

They gave me these nice yellow roots for 225$ and then asked me to never return in exchange for their refund. I was a returning client for the fourth session. That's all I have to say. read more

I'm a new client to Thumpers and was recommended by my daughter to see Nathan to advise me how to transition to my natural hair colour, pure white. Nathan took the time to tell me exactly how he was going to proceed - with 30+ years experience I knew I would be in good hands. I was not disappointed. Nathan is a Master Stylist, trained in London, England and knows exactly what would best suit your features. If you're looking for a precision haircut and perfect colour, I highly recommend Nathan. I've never experienced anything like it - watching him cut hair is seeing a true master at work. Thank you Nathan! read more

Nathan is a very talented hairdresser! He understands hair, he very patient and you don't leave the chair until your are satisfied. I definitely recommend him. read more

High end chic results, highly recommend Alanna.talent, intuition, personable.it is a joy to sit in her chair.

I love love love love Thumpers. This is where I go to get my hair done, I am always 100% confident in the ability of the hair stylists here, although it is a bit expensive. I started my Thumpers experience on a bad foot actually, I got an ombre done with red in it and it faded so quickly, that after a week it was completely unnoticable. I'm glad I gave it a second chance as I've had nothing but great experiences from Thumpers! Rob did my hair last New Year's Eve and it was amazing. I asked for an updo that was a bit old fashioned since I was wearing a vintage dress, and he somehow gave my thin ass hair a beehive with curls at the back. I got so many compliments and felt amazing all night. i got hair extensions done here back in April and absolutely loved them. They use babe extensions and Vanessa, the lady who does them, knows her stuff. If you have thin hair like myself and want a confidence boost I can't speak enough for these extensions. When I had them I felt like a new person. I'm giving my hair a 4 month break at my stylist (Vanessa's) advice and can't wait to get them again. My extensions matched my hair perfectly and it was completely impossible to tell that I had them. Vanessa has since dyed my hair dark brown and gave me a nice cut. I have been dyeing my hair dark brown since I was a teenager, and it has always faded to some degree, but this stuff remarkably, has not faded a bit. I asked for a streak of lavender in the back, which didn't turn lavender, so Vanessa fixed it for free. They also sell the best hair products you can get. Oribe is an amazing brand that smells absolutely phenomenal, and is the only place in Halifax to sell R&Co products. They also carry Bumble and Bumble. Thumpers has a decent selection of nail polish and lip gloss from Smith and Co, which I've never heard of, but will forever be hooked on their lipgloss. My lips look amazing. Not to mention the front staff are great. They somehow always know my name when I come in and i always feel welcomed. Only thing is the high price point, I couldn't afford to get my roots touched up this month and am kicking myself for going elsewhere... You really see a difference here, so I consider it well worth the extra $. read more

I've always had a great experience here. I've tried 3 stylists and none have disappointed! I highly HIGHLY recommend Severus. His blowouts last a week and he is very detail oriented when cutting. The products smell amazing. read more

I came in with a pretty good idea of what I wanted and was hoping my stylist would be able to execute that, especially considering their skill levels there! It was my first time at Thumpers so I didn't know who to book with, they chose someone for me based on what I wanted done. Four hours and $200 later, I had the complete opposite of what I wanted. And what's worse, he was rude and condescending to me the whole time. Immediately shutting down my idea and several others following, deciding he knew best and not taking into consideration what I wanted. My hair is well done of course but it's not at all what I wanted and to be honest I kind of hate it. I really like it when a hairdresser can work with you to reach your goals if something might not work out or look good on your skin tone but I did not receive that here. Will not be going back read more

I needed to make a quick appointment and they were able to get me in the same day. They serve tea while you wait which I love! I went in to get my hair colored. I had a very specific idea of what I wanted and I was nervous that the colorist wouldn't be able to do it. I went from a fading purple to a dark brown, with blonde foils at the front. She did a great job of matching what I wanted to the picture I showed her as best as she could. She was very accommodating and made sure to consult me a lot along the way. It turned out great. I am very happy with the results and I would definitely go back. read more

I've been a returning client of Thumper's for several years, and pleased until the last several cuts. Since then, stylists have ignored my hairstyle request (I always bring along a picture, always the same one) and do something extreme that is specifically NOT what I asked for. It's odd. Before then, they used to always cut the style as I requested it. I went to someone else at Thumper's, and got a very similar result. I wonder if there ia a "new style trend" that their stylists are ordered to follow in spite of what a customer asks for. I have talked with the stylists before and after, but they argue, saying it won't work, although they always used to do that cut as I requested in the past, to great result. read more

I thought that I was pretty clear with what I asked for a haircut, but I think that the stylist already had something in mind for me and decided on what to do without my input. I now have an impractical, high-maintenance bob. I can't have hair in my face for work but now I have these tiny bangs that can't be pinned back without looking ridiculous. It makes me look ten years older with a chipmunk face. On a completely different person, this cut would probably look fine. On me, it's a fail. Would not recommend. read more

I came from out of town and went to the first place that had time. Wow, did I luck out. Lovely place, great location, excellent customer service. Chantel was professional and I felt she really listened. She gave me a color and cut and I left very happy. Will plan to be back next time I come through Halifax. read more

Everyone was very nice, especially the girl working at the front desk, however I'm not happy with the haircut I got from Alanna. I went in just wanting my bangs trimmed and I was very clear that I did not want my bangs to go shorter than my eyebrows, but she didn't listen and cut way shorter than my eyebrows. Even if I had wanted my bangs to be this length, she didn't even do a nice job as they are very choppy and uneven. I'm just glad it will only take a few weeks to grow them out so I can go to another salon to get them fixed. read more

The ambience is lovely !! Music is relaxing However , this was my first experience at thumpers where I was not satisfied with my haircut as regards to the cost . Paid a bomb of 75 dollars and the haircut was not great. She just did a trimm and a blow dry . I would have accepted it had it been for a 30 dollars . Not acceptable for this bomb price . Better luck next time !! Make sure you know the right hairdresser before you get in read more

I had a terrible first time experience at Thumpers. The stylist did not do what I asked even having shown a picture and had a lengthy discussion. She cut it my hair way too short and there is not much I can do now but ride it out. It isn't like i can go back for a fix. In addition, my hair was completely texturized which it does not agree with at all. It is basically a disaster. I will not go back. I would have expected more considering the 10 year rave from The Coast and the level of knowledge they are meant to have. read more

I dye my hairs in Trumpers today. I want grey but now I got green hair. And the green is lighter at the middle of my hair and much darker on the root and tail. I don't know how to describe this shit which cost me 400$. I like the experience of my first two visit but this time it sucks. read more

I got an amazing elegant haircut by Nathan. I had long hair for a very long time, and had been thinking of getting a hair cut for a while. Today in Thumpers, I had my first experience of going to a hair salon in Canada, and I was very lucky to have Nathan as my stylist. He did a great job and I am absolutely happy with my haircut, it's very professional. The hair salon itself is very nice and cozy, and the people are friendly. read more

I waited 45 minutes in the salon to get an 85 dollar hair cut that I did not like. I'm 22 and the hair stylist had focused much more time and attention on the middle aged wealthier man who had gone before me. I did not feel appreciated at all. read more
