I'm disappointed to say that I had one of the worst experiences here that I've ever had at a hair salon. It was an uncomfortable and painful experience. I got a full head of foils and none of them go to the root which I think is entirely unacceptable for the price you pay. The foils were yanked out of my head at the sink and I was left there without asking if I was comfortable, my neck was in a ton of pain the whole time. When I had my hair dried it was pulled so hard with the brush that I legitimately left in pain. I'm very upset by this experience because I had very high hopes. I felt rushed and the job looks that way as well. I've never lost so much hair in my entire life. I gave private feedback via the website but never got a response. Update* There manager got ahold of me and was very helpful and understanding, I was offered a solution to the problem and am satisfied with the customer service on his end :) read more

ABSOLUTELY THE WORST hairstylist and Salon ever!!! hair looked nothing like the picture i showed, then when I went to ask the manager to get it fixed, she yelled at me for not asking sooner. Manager was so rude and kept yelling at me to "not speak to her this way" when I was simply trying to show her the picture of what I wanted my hair to look AWFUL not to mention overly priced. i will never give this place business EVER AGAIN and neither should you. I will include two photos; the clearer one is the hair I was given, and the more pixelated picture is what I asked for and was agreed upon with the stylist FIVE DAYS IN ADVANCE. Very professional people and loved their decor - standard salon decor, but the red made everything pop! :) My best friend got her hair colored and Nicole did a good job. She was very nice and easy going, making small talk, asking funny questions, giving good hair advice and just having fun with us in general.. My bestie LOVES her color! :) I came back the next day to get my hair colored (my best friend convinced me it would look awesome - I have some aversion to hair color by myself) - missed my appointment with Nicole by 15 minutes and she made a fuss about it (!) Anyways - I am almost happy I did.. cuz I got to go to Sebastian and he did an amazing job! Super friendly and very easy going - he is adorably cute! :) He made small talk all the while, made sure I liked the color I was picking and that it would go with my hair. He was very gentle with my hair and made sure I was happy with the color. He was also awesome enough to cover up a few white hair I had (yes people - White hair.. I totally blame my demanding job) with color that matched my original hair color.. super nice! All in all, both of us had a fun experience and I am sure she will go back there! Although they are located in the Halifax Shopping Centre Annex (stand-alone location in the parking lot by Tim Horton's), once you're inside you'd think you were on Spring Garden Road, judging by the atmosphere and buzz going on. HS Studio Salon Spa offers a menu of options: everything from hair care to massage therapy, facials to manicures, and waxing to make-up application. (Massage therapy is provided by Registered Massage Therapists and the salon will issue receipts for insurance purposes.) I've used HS Studio Salon Spa for a number of services and have always been delighted with the results. The stylists are savvy and practical; when my (blonde) daughter wanted to dye her hair green and purple, the stylist gave us honest advice on the permanency and the feasibility. Props to the salon staff for speaking their mind, even if it's not necessarily what you want to hear. The esthetics and massage side of the house is professional and efficient. Personal matters (such as bikini waxes and full body massages) are handled with discretion and an understanding of your personal space. The mani/pedi area is outfitted with massaging chairs and provides a very comfortable place to hang out while your nails dry. I recommend HS Studio Salon Spa unhesitatingly. I don't even know where to start with this place I went to a girl name ChelseaShe seemed wonderful going over what I would need to begin my journey with great Lengths extensions ' so she quoted me 635$ in the beginning when I went to pay for the hair there was a mix up with the price by a few hundred dollars' not a problem I ordered 4 packs of GL hair and was on my way !! It took a week to come in and I have to admit I was alittle worried because I have not stepped away from my wonderful stylist that has been doing my hair for years. But I wanted GL extensions and they didn't have it at that salon. So Chelsea assured me up and down things would be fine. I mean how bad could it end Well extremely bad she put my extensions in (she quoted install to be 150$ ended of being 200$ ) She then took 2 hours to put my fusions hair extensions in I asked her in the beginning if she was sure I didn't have to do my roots ( she informed me NO ) wrong answer. Anyways she proceeded to put them in and they were extremely close to my head like I mean really close to my hair to the point it was hurting and pulling but she assured me that this was Normal ) I wouldn't have known the difference because I never got FUSION extensions in before only I tip. She finished up my hair but it didn't feel right it felt thin and not at all full like they feel when I have babe hair extensions. She curled it and still really sucked and had no body. I examined my hair at home and decided to sleep on it and see how I felt when I washed it well my head ached all night because I couldn't lay down on them because they were pulling at my hair so much ' which has never ever happened before with babe extensions. I decided to make a complaint to Great lengths Because even the cut was horrible and lacked definition and Body I talked to a lady called Sandy she told me she was going to check in with the salon and see what happened . I was informed Chelsea was not a great Lengths girl and couldn't preform putting extensions like mine in. I was down right shocked I had paid all this money to not even have my hair put in by someone who was trained by GReat Lengths company. sandy assured me there was no evidence . she had her certificate to preform the installation I then asked what the hell do I do next I had to go back to the salon and get the hair ripped out my head and I mean ripped out by the other 2 girls that are supposedly trained with great lengths it hurt like hell and took hours to remove. I then spoke to Dustin and he informed me that I would be taken care of because of all the issues I had getting them in my hair. Great Lengths also informed me that the girls at that salon would have to be retrained. Because of what went down. I asked them what there offer was they informed me they would do my colour for 25 percent off Hardy nothing for the pain and frustration I encountered at the salon. And they would put the hair in for free but couldn't give me a discount on the hair because There was no discount on the hair even for them. Which btw I think is BS. I left paid for my hair yet again and was on my way I heard from Sandy at great lengths again and she assured me things would taken care of at the salon and Chelsea would be talked to about her behaviour in all this and be reprehend The next day came and I didn't hear from the salon then another day came I called the salon to see wth was going on now with my hair and appointment. To my surprise they would not put my hair back in now I am not sure what happened from the time I left the salon to the time it came to going in and getting my hair done again. But Dustin told me they couldn't colour my hair or put the extensions back in For 2 months WTF is wrong with this salon 2 months for what reason ? I was told because I had such a hard time getting them out that the wonderful great lengths girls didn't want to risk putting them back in. Which again was BS at this point I don't think anyone at this salon could tell the truth even if they tried. I took my money back and left. I swear I have never met a more on organized and professional bunch of people. Then I was informed Chelsea did have certificate by one of her friends. Which makes no sense why would GL and the salon tell me she' didn't was it to protect the salon or GL and why would the 2 girls that were not even involved in all this have to be retrained. I think the owners of this salon truly better have a staff meeting cause there's truly something not right at this salon. 1000$ for this type of treatment sorry I'll still with my wonderful trained salon and babe hair. With the plush pickings of downtown salons, a bus ride out to the Halifax Mall for a hair-do isn't at the top of my list. But in a pinch for a solid colorist, I was encouraged by a coworker to check out HS. So I'm a dirty blonde. And when it comes to color, I know just what I like, and have had too many-a times where I've walked out with less than impressed results. No streaks, no skunk, no brassy backlash-- I enjoy interlaced sunkissed hues to lighten things up a lil. Testing out new salons and new hairdressers make me incredibly nervous when colour is involved... but Meaghan at HS came recommended by my pal-- who like me, enjoys the more subtle splashings. Since I was referred by an existing client, I received 25% from my services. Hot dang. Not only that, but my new do was fairly priced at $120 (Before the 25% discount, and included full foils, cut, style), and I have very long hair. (mid back) It was an easy, fuss-free process experience, and the atmosphere was grand. Hot cider and lush settings were all in the make-up. So I needed a change for the summer, and I decided to go blonde. I usually dye my own hair, but when it comes to blonde, I've always decided to leave it to the professionals. So, I was recommended to go to HS Studios by a work colleague. The place is nice. Bright, airy and very modern looking. Lots of coffee/tea for everyone and cookies. I also like that they have separated the purchasing area from the wait room and hair cutting place. Makes it feel less crowded, and you don't have a dozen people watching you get your hair done. My appointment was at 11:00, but did not start until 11:30. Around 11:25 I went back to the front desk and asked whether my hairstylist would have enough time for me, as I did not want her to rush and I end up with a shitty result. They ensured me that she would have enough time, and 5 minutes later she was there to meet me (she had been working on a client that was late for their appointment). I sat down with her, and told her I wanted to be a summer blonde and that I did not like a) yellow/orangey looking blonde, and b) I don't like chunky highlights. She asked if I wanted to look at swatches, but I told her that I trusted her judgement. 1.5 hours later, I am very happy that I did trust her. My blonde highlights look natural and wonderful. She even talked me into a two step deep-conditioning process that has left my hair deliciously soft. Ended up costing me 145.00$ for a full head of highlights, conditioning, taxes and tip. This was a wonderful surprise for me, as back in Vancouver a haircut alone was around 80$ or 160$ including 1/2 head of highlights. Here, the haircut was included. If you're looking for friendly staff, good service, and knowledgeable stylist I would recommend this place. Kristen Stewart (yup, same as the Twilight girl - took me awhile to realize why I recognized this name!) is an excellent colourist and I would definitely recommend her. read more

I'm a simple gal when it comes to hair. I don't colour, highlight or do much else besides a shampoo and a cut, so I appreciate finding a hairdresser that is reasonably priced and does a great job. So, when a friend recommended HS Studio and mentioned they had a referral program (she gets a discount on her next cut for being the referral and I get a discount on my first cut because I was referred), I was game to give them a go. I've been going here for more than a year now, and I love it here. I regularly see Melissa Hearn (tell her I sent ya!) and I'm never disappointed with the service I receive. The gals at the front desk are warm and inviting, I always get offered a tea or coffee, and the entire experience is designed to feel more like a downtown salon, without being fussy or pretentious. They have a range of products available, regular promotions and discounts and besides the referral incentive, there is also a rewards program through the HS Salon network in Atlantic Canada. HS Studio is a classy beautification basecamp just across the street from Halifax Shopping Centre. It's packed with talented, friendly stylists and thanks to their chain status (HS Studio is the elevated sister brand to the Head Shoppe) they've got their customer experience down to a well-practiced tee. I used to have my hair handled by Melissa who is just so damn cute that I would have just kept going to HS in order to hang out with her for half an hour. She was always always always in a great mood, happy to chat, and extremely consistent with her cuts from day one. Once she got a feel for my hair, she was also happy to offer up suggestions or different techniques to help me get more weeks in between cuts since every three weeks can get pretty pricy. The only reason I switched from HS Studio is simply because it's a bit of a pain in the ass for me to get to, especially back in the days when I could only visit after the workday. Fighting traffic out to the shopping centre for a thirty minute appointment? Not fun for me. But if you can get there, you won't be disappointed. read more

She always does a great job and is always so friendly and remembers everything thats going on in my life from visit to visit. Getting my hair cut/colored is more like visiting a friend. If this was a review of just Krista it would have been a 5 star 100% for sure, the only thing that would drop the salons review down to a 4 is the price... while I am sure it is not the most expensive salon in the city it is a little more on the pricey side. read more

The people there were friendly but I am very unsatisfied with my hair it is so uneven I could've did a better job cutting my hair one side of my hair is chopped so unprofessional and I have little hair tails sticking out in the back of my hair. First time getting a facial here. I went because they use Dermalogica products, and because the website advertised hand and foot massage with "every facial". I was booked with Jill who was friendly and fairly professional. However, I had the feeling that she was overworked or rushed, as service was minimal. She was over 15 minutes late coming to greet me and did not apologize for the delay. While I had a mask on for 10 minutes, she left to do paperwork. I would have preferred a hand massage during that time, as I got at my previous spa. Plus, no extractions were done. She said my face didn't need any, but I always need extractions. In short, I paid a lot of money for treatments I could have done myself at home. I go for facials precisely for extractions and hand massages, because I can't do these myself. read more

I like many other women have had one heck of a time finding a hairdresser I can trust to consistantly do a good job on my hair let alone a great job. I've been to every kind of salon from discount shops to some of the most expensive ones in town but it wasn't until I went to see Natasha R that I finally have found someone I truly have confidence in. Every time I go see her I leave with the perfect cut keeping the length I want and the style and it's always perfect for my face shape. Most other salons get 2 of the three but I've never been able to go home and have my hair look just as good as when I left the salon after I wash and dry it. I have always found all of the staff here professional, and extremely friendly. They always offer me a beverage as soon as I check in, and I have never had to wait to check in. The whole environment is very reaxing yet hip and modern, and even when I have a different stylist (if I have to book last minute for some reason), I always leave satisfied. The prices are exactally the same as the regular Head Shoppe, but the experiance here leaps and bounds beyond what I have experianced at any other Head Shoppe. Okay! so they did call me to fix my feedback. I must say their marketing team does a remarkable job. They were really quick in reading my review and made a very good effort trying to fix it. This time I did opt for SPA mani-pedi. I am overall a huge fan of SPA treatments and this time a sweet girl "Christen" did it for me (sorry if her name is misspelled) Trust me lovelies she knows what she is doing. She did make sure I am happy and satisfied with the service. She wasn't rushing at all and even very good at interacting. I would definitely want to go back to her. One tip- All of their experienced staff are off over the weekend so if you want to fall into the right hands than please go somewhere on weekdays. SPA mani-pedi is little more expensive than the classic one but worth every penny. The CND and OPI mani-pedi skin care products she used were too good. I do recommend this salon. I have been quite a few times now and finally decided to write a review. Over the past 4 years since I've been coming here I don't have any complaints. The girls over there have also been good to me and as someone that has a schedule that is ridiculously inconsistent they have very flexible times for everything. Nicole had been my hairdresser for a long time and recently has been switched over to Ceci; both have been great with my unruly corkscrew naturally curly hair. I would like a few more suggestions from my haircare providers on more modern/adventurous cuts and styles but that's about it. I can see their hesitation: these curls are crazy. And Brittany had been doing a marvellous job of keeping my caterpillar brows under control! Over all I am highly satisfied with this business and will continue to go. read more

Wow!!! I have had the same stylist for 32!!!! years( best friend at this point but amazing!) Had to look for another but mine is still best friend but taking on new ventures and I moved As usual I digress ! I have travelled found some ok stylists but never compared to mine ( Even at Cesar's Palace ) They are ok but I realize talent is talent the only difference is geography !!! From our perspective, customer satisfaction is not their priority. We had a "misunderstanding" (read between the lines) and my daughter did not get the results we expected based on pictures we were shown. A huge disappointment and whole in the wallet. They would NOT compensate NOR try to fix. They would not take their share of the responsibility for the mistake even though we decided to agree with them that it was a "misunderstanding". Even though the stylist made my teen feel very comfortable with her, it was clear that she had very little experience. It took her 5 hours to lighten and foil my daughters' long hair. Industry standards is 3 hours. We will never go back and would not recommend to anyone. read more

I recently had my nails done by Kayla and she did an excellent job. I highly recommend her. While it's true that the pricing was higher than some other places I was lucky enough to get a promotional price. That being said, the space itself is quite nice. It's possible that the extra cost is worth it for some due to the ambient space. Nicer than an assembly line for nails and Kayla gave some good advice about nail care. The gel nails are a lot better than the old school acrylic ones as they won't damage your nails. You can get tips added if you need them and your real nail will grow underneath. Eventually they will grow to a point where you won't need the tips. I can't wait for this to happen. Kayla has an astonishing assortment of colours so you wouldn't have an trouble finding one you like. The price for gel nails was around 70.00 and the fills are about 35.00. Fills are typically every 3-4 weeks or so depending on how fast your nails grow. You will get a little goodie bag as a first time customer with some coupons and referral cards. If you refer a friend both of you get 25% off. Honestly, for things like hair I'm not convinced there's a difference between a cut here and a cut at one of the cheaper chain salons. This might be true for the nails too. But it's really a nicer place and the energy is a little more upbeat here. I think that's why people are willing to pay a little more. It's not just about the service, it's about the experience. It is a choice that works out for me because I can fit it in around my work schedule without having to take time off. I've only had my nails done here but I suspect other services are just as impressive. So, remember nails by Kayla are epic! read more

I really used to enjoy getting my hair styled at HS Studio; however, I have decided not to return as the stylists are so gossipy. I realize some my accept this behaviour as part of the culture and "experience" of going to the salon, but not me. I find it extremely unprofessional. I began to notice how the stylists were talking about each other.... and their clients! I realize that I am not safe, if my stylist is talking to me about her coworkers and other clients. The gossip is SOO bad there that on my last (because I will not be returning) visit another stylist who I do not know was telling me, at the direction of my stylist, extremely personal information about her client. I was so disgusted. I thought that I had a connection with my stylist and so I shared some really personal stories about my life lately. Well, I deeply regret my decision, as I have no doubt in the world that once I left the whole salon was happily told about my troubles. Disgusting!!! read more

My first time at HS spa was great, I showed Kaitlyn a picture of what I wanted (long and short layers throughout) and she exceeded my expectations. This is why I took my little sister back so she could have the same haircut as mine. Kaitlyn was not available that day so I asked for someone with experience and they gave us Jesse, who had been there for a couple of years. I showed him my hair telling him this is exactly what my sister wanted and he examined it throughly. At the end when I came to look at my sister's hair I saw that he done barely done a few long layers towards the end and there were no short layers at all. Jesse explained that my sister said she styles her hair by doing braids and did not want hair coming out with shorter layers. Upon asking my sister, she said her layers were fine. I want to mention at this point that she is quite shy and can become confused when it comes to confrontations, this is why I accompanied her. But I still said "your layers aren't like mine though" at which point Jesse said "try this first, we could do it next time". Lol yeah, so we can pay again?? Anyway, I did not want to pressure my sister anymore in front of him and Jesse's attitude was not encouraging at all, he was hesitant to do his job well it seemed. As I predicted, once we went home, my sister was quite upset that she did not get what she wanted. We ended up paying 40 ish dollars for a cut that was more like a trim with maybe one long layer at the end. This is ridiculous. I do not recommend people to go here if an "experienced" hair stylist cannot follow simple directions after seeing a real life example and then charges a fortune for a trim basically. I walked in to this salon a week prior to my appointment time and spoke with the receptionist about what I wanted done/got an estimate. All went well so I scheduled an appt for color and foils. The day of my appointment I showed up to find out from the stylist that the appointment was not scheduled properly (their mistake) and there wouldn't be enough time to do what I had initially requested.. she then went on to say that the estimate I was given was nowhere near what it should've been. I was a bit annoyed at this point because I had cancelled with my usual stylist at another location in hopes to save a little at this time financially. The stylist was very rude and had a lot of attitude, when I politely asked to speak with the manager about the mistake she gave a lot of attitude but went off to get the manager for me to speak with. The manager did not even come to speak with me, but did offer 25% off. The stylist then tells me (after already starting the procedures) that she won't have time to do what I wanted. So disappointed and very surprised at this horrible service. So I left the salon with a color not even close to what I was originally wanting, a stylist who claimed she didn't have time (yet still took her nearly 4 hours to complete!)- not to mention the most awkward/uncomfortable session I have ever experienced since the stylist barely said one word. I am visiting Halifax & called this morning and was able to get an appointment early afternoon with a wonderful stylist - Natasha. Reception was friendly & helpful. I wish I lived in town just to keep Natasha as my stylist. She was bang-on with my foil colour and even reshaped my cut (I just got it cut in my hometown before I left a week ago & wasn't happy with it). I left in under two hours and paid way less than I normally pay in BC. Can't say enough about the friendly, professional, skilled staff. I hope everyone has as great an experience as I did. my stylist seemed very amateur and not know what he was doing. i have had my hair done by professionals before and mark my words, THIS is not professional. he was maybe a student who hasn't finished his course yet and was working on my hair for credit. what he did was pure experimental and obviously it did not turn out well. i walked out of the salon exactly with the same look that i walked in with. i have no idea what was cut for 40mins in there but there was literally no difference. i went straight to another salon from here. nope. never going back inspire of this being the nearest salon to my place. Everyone i have had at the salon has been wonderful, minus Jesse. He needs to learn to listen to customer requests. I went in for a shampoo, blow dry and flat iron. He has no pressure for his shampoo, blow dry what so ever. I always look forward to this part as i have thick curly hair, but he is not good with that at all. When it comes to the flat iron and blow dry, i advise him i do not want any volume as when my hair is natural, it has enough of that. I ask him to get into my roots of my hair when using the croc flat iron, and he doesn't. He takes sections which vary between an inch and up, which makes me have to re straighten my hair when i go home. I have asked him to take smaller sections which he doesn't do, he makes me feel as if my voice is not heard. After i leave the salon from having Jesse do my hair, doesn't feel the same as if it were dariann or cece, which is nice and soft.I recommend if you go to the salon to have anyone but Jesse as he ignores his customers voice. read more
