Last month I realized I needed a haircut more then I have ever needed a haircut in my entire life. My hair had not been trimmed in several months, I had 6-month old half-grown out colour that had faded to the max, and I was *thisclose* to taking the razor to the whole thing ala. Britney. I am particular about my hair and about it looking good so I don't like to trust it to just anyone. Seeing as my hairstylist I have had since BIRTH is in Cole Harbour, I now live in the North end of Halifax with no car, and she is extremely hard to get an appointment with anyway, I decided it was high time to find a place in my own hood. I had noticed Flaunt salon open up a few months before (it opened mid-October 2010) because I walk by the old house it's located in every day after work (you can't miss that big, round window in the front!). It looked like a nice, fun place, plus, you can't beat a 5 minute walk from my apartment. So, I thought I would give it a try. Well, seriously I think I had the best haircut of my LIFE that day. Now, I really really needed a haircut so to be honest, ANY change to my style would probably have made me completely over-the-moon, but it was more than that. I was randomly paired up with Laurel and she was lovely - very friendly with a sunny personality - so I felt in good hands right from the beginning. I brought a picture to give her an idea of the kind of look I wanted and she made it look exactly like that! She gave me a great asymmetrical bob style with tons of layers, but kept it long enough that I could still pull at least the front back - you know, she actually LISTENED to me (which doesn't always happen at salons, am I right, other high-maintainence hair people?). The salon itself is small (I think only 5 chairs) and so it's quiet but also encourages conversation amongst patrons. There is an air of exclusivity to it - like you are at a place that requires you to make an appointment 6 months in advance and where you could easily shell out $200 for a cut. Now, don't get me wrong, this place is a tad pricey - I was actually surprised when she told me the total at the end of my appointment and it came to $57 before tip (so almost $70 total - eeps). However, to me it was worth it because she did a great job with my cut. Also, I don't necessarily mind paying a bit more money for the convenience and experienced stylists. Unfortunately I can't speak for how much a colour or other treatments would cost but I imagine they are not cheap either. One thing that I also found a tad odd was that they don't take credit cards (only debit, cash or cheque) so those of you on a budget and who like your plastic, be forewarned. Also keep in mind that they have more limited hours than other salons (the latest they are open is 8pm and that's only one or two nights a week I think...the other nights I believe it is 6pm) and they are limiting their hours even more over the summer, so book at least a week ahead. Flaunt an AQC salon - Hair Salons Near Me - Halifax, Nova Scotia

The difficult thing about moving to a new city or country is finding someone to do your hair, so the first time I showed up at Flaunt it had been over a year since I'd had something done. I made an appointment with Michael and he completely rejuvenated my look (of course, this was after playfully scolding my lack of hair care!). Not only is Michael an incredible stylist, he is friendly and fun to spend a few hours with (without being intrusive). His attention to detail and keen eye make it really easy to trust him with your hair, he knows what will look good on people and what won't, and he isn't scared to disagree or tell the truth. Every time I go to see Michael I walk out feeling like a million bucks, and they are really reasonably priced which is a bonus. Highly recommend both the salon, and Mike himself! read more

When I walked into Flaunt I took a seat and waited. My stylist was Lauren and she was late seeing me. I was mildly annoyed with that and the banter that only heightened my anxiety which is ever present in public & the angst surrounding my hairloss a few years ago and the bewildering regrowth. All that vanished when I sat in Lauren's chair. She understood my anxiety, she too had lost a lot of hair once and the growing in after it finally does is a nerve wracking bit of time. One cant tell if it's growing at all half the time. She was perfectly honest with me. She told me what I knew was true~that my hair is thinner and finer on one side~but she assured me it was covering my scalp fully and that my hair was healthy and shiny. She then blew my mind and said "You don't need it cut right now, if you're growing it out. My gut tells me 'leave it' and come back in 12 weeks." Wait..what? She wasn't sharking my $$!!! She wasn't attempting to cut something she knew would grow out well if she left it alone. Lauren's honesty and fine sense of humor will bring me back to Flaunt. The lovely cuts the others there were sporting as they left, spoke of expertise. I can't wait for the 12 weeks to go by. This is the third time I have gone to the salon for a massage. I absolutely love the premises; it has a very relaxed and professional feel to it. RMT Lindsay Bendell is amazing at what she does. All aspects were 5/5, namely the atmosphere, music, scents and products used. I highly recommend Lindsay to anyone looking for a rejuvenation of mind, body and spirit. All my life I've gone to hair dressers and told them one thing "I don't know anything about hair - so just give me whatever would look best on me." Darrell at Flaunt was the first person to actually give me a hair cut that looked great. He takes his time and doesn't use clippers. For some guys Flaunt might be expensive (around $50 with tip), but for me the cut have grown out much better, which means I have to go less frequently. Jenny is a fantastic esthetician and I recently took my sister in for an intimate waxing service (will sis kill me for posting this online?) Sis was nervous and hilarious and Jenny matched the humour and managed to calm her down. I stayed in the room to have a good chin-wag with Jenny and it ended up being a fun time for all (well 2 out of 3 aint bad!) I had been looking for new stylist and new look for couple of years and was pretty frustrated. After extensive online searches, I chose to see Micheal and wow, I was not disappointed! Highly talented in both short cuts and colour, Mike had me walking out feeling fabulous for the first time in forever. The salon is cool and arty and Mike is warm and inviting. I'd been box dying my hair black for 7 years and finally decided to lighten it. I looked for a long time and through a lot of reviews to pick a place, and I couldn't have been happier with my choice! I've never been turned away from a salon until today. I can't say much since I didn't even get inside, but the customer service sure sucks. They had a time open for me today-- cool! But as soon as they heard my hair hasn't been brushed in a while, they suddenly didn't. They don't seem to have much confidence in themselves as stylists. Judgement for judgement. I was recommended by a friend to visit flaunt , read the reviews and decided to give it a try. I was greeted promptly and offered coffee or tea. The décor in the studio was very nice and clean. I asked for a warm brown and the color turned out exactly as I had hoped for. I let the stylist recommend the cut and I liked the result a lot. The price was reasonable, I have paid more and paid less, but I did feel it was good value for the level of service I received. I took off a star because it was a little hard to find (the sign said AQC). read more

Sorry to say I don't have a glowing review to write. I went here for cut/foils for the first time a little while ago. It didn't start off great, I was 10 minutes late for the appointment which I felt really bad about and I know how frustrating that can be, as I myself work by appointments. I apologized as I got lost finding the spot. My stylist was clearly unimpressed, and made me feel badly about it by making snarky comments like, 'sorry, i wont be able to chat during the appointment, because i need to concentrate on your hair because i'm rushed for time.' Talk about a awkward silent appointment after that...he also threw in a few more comments about my being late, I felt like shrinking into a hole. So he proceeded to foil my hair, and near the end he spoke to me, which i guess was his way of permitting me to talk.... He did start to warm up and talk to me normally, which i went along with. My hair overall turned out ok. nothing special by any means. I went to this salon because they use Bumble and Bumble. But I found my hair didn't react the way it usually does to Bumble and Bumble, and turned brassy very quick. I later heard that they also use Redken (don't take my word on it), but it would totally make sense if they did. I don't really like Redken colouring because i find it turns my hair brassy, and that's kind of how my hair turned out... And the cut, was nothing to write home about. Cute salon interior, i found it reasonably priced, but I didn't have the best experience or result so i wont be returning or recommending. read more

Heard such great things about this salon and I was very excited when I found out they were open on Sundays. I called and made 3 appointments for blowouts in May for an event in August. On the Monday before the event, I received a call to change to time for one of the appointments and found out that the receptionist booked all three appointments for Saturday and they simply told me that there was nothing they could. read more

Chill staff, beautiful space, and Darrel is a smart and talented stylist. I explained what I feel is a challenging hair situation, based on the way my hair grows and what my expectations are for it, and he developed a plan for how to approach it which turned out to be perfect. The consult was great communication - he learned what he needed to know from me, I learned what he was planning and what we could realistically expect this round. And then as I've said, the haircut was amazing (and complicated, although it does not appear to be the technical project that it was). Price is competitive with similar quality professionals, and by the way I saw an earlier review from back in 2012 that said they did not take credit yet and saw none updating that so I'll be the one to say that they are all set up for everything. read more

I went to see Michael at Flaunt for a color and a cut. I was nervous because this was my first time. Well I didnt need to be. My color turned out so beautiful and even though it wasnt what I went in for....I ended up agreeing that it was a better color for me....my friends agree too. The salon was very pretty and comfortable. Go see mike if you need a great cut and a great color. read more
