I can see why this shop has so many good reviews. I have had alot of work done on my previous car so I have dealt with many shops but I think I have finally found my "main" mechanic. I live all the way in San Jose, but I'm in the area at least once a week. I usually get my tires done next door and I figured it would be convenient to get all my work done all at once. Decided to yelp this place first and gave it a shot. At first I was skeptical because I knew I had my light on but I also knew that I needed other things done. I asked the guy who quoted me how much for a full car inspection, he gave me the price, and that was that. Two mins later he tells me about what is triggering the code and started giving me rough estimates on what Im looking at. Okay thats fine, but was that the full car inspection? He said yea. But I kind of nodged him to check my brakes which then he started to visually check around my car and found a leak on my transmission pan. I asked him to give me an estimate and told him I would also need a tune up, so he jotted everything down with a price but didn't really explain anything. Im a girl of transparency, so it really threw me off, I started to ask him a whole bunch of questions. Wrote down his name on my copy, asked him to give me the code number, and still scheduled an appointment the following week. The following week comes and this is where I meet the owner Sam and all the doubts I had flew out the window. Not only is he a genuinely nice guy, but his work ethic is extremely professional. He was very transparent in his explanation for cost, what work will be done, and how long it will take. Not once did he try to up sell me into anything that I didn't need to do with my car, in fact he worked to find ways that were going to be cheaper. It was more of like "heres the problems, lets fix just that. " Im so happy with how smooth my car feels. The guy who worked on my car was so nice too. He did an amazing job, and although it was alot of work, they got the job done before they closed. I just couldn't leave without saying thank you. This place is definately worth the drive. Thanks guys! read more

I was contacted by the owner in regards to my experience, and he personally took responsibility for the situation and apologized. I thought it was professional, and that gesture was enough for me to want to revise my review. However, he also added that he wanted to throw in a free Signature Service for my car in order to make up for the negative experience. I was not expecting to receive such a generous offer, and honestly a sincere apology was already more than enough. I pushed back, saying I already had my oil changed and wouldn't even need that part of the service, but he insisted for me to come in whenever my car needs it. That clearly showed me how much First Auto Service does care about their customers, and that we definitely all just have off days some times. I will definitely be coming in again and giving First Auto Service a second chance. read more

UPDATE: They would provide me with touch up paint. Uh, cool? I had a similar incident with a tint place with me interior, however, he took full responsibility right away and got it fixed back to exactly how I dropped the car off. ------------------------------- I would do 3.75 if I could lol! I was at 5! Sam is straightforward and honest, hard to find someone like him nowadays. I had my oil changed and regular maintenance on my car this past Saturday. I didn't have an appointment, but he squeezed me in (which was awesome!). Unfortunately, I noticed today (two days later) a nice a size gouge on my car from where they put the lift to raise her. As expected both of Sam and his employee mentioned, had they put the lift where the gouge is the whole piece would of fallen off etc etc. I expected them to say this. My point is this, it sure as hell didn't happen from anything else, i would understand his point had I scrapped my front or rear end bumpers and I was blaming them (fair enough), this was on the side of the car under my rear passenger door. A horribly hard place for this to be a routine driving screw up lol, I understand Sam's point he is going defend his business and employees, respectable. But, don't tell me that weird things just happen on the road. The spot where it happened is in such a peculiar place for any hazards on the road to cause it. :( Furthermore, they had another car on the lift, and the arms were crossing over where the nice gouge is on my car lol. His employee was more defensive than he was when I mentioned that. Deep down I know he gets where I'm coming from! He's a coo ass dude and I get where he's coming from too, but still! lol I still like First Auto Service, I just wish his employees were a little more careful. This is the second car i brought here, I had great service when dealing directly with Sam. He kept an eye on the first car i brought to him, to make sure his employees were doing what needed to get done properly. I get it, shit happens. But she's still fairly new and it hurts, even if she wasn't new it would still hurt! lol It was a mistake on his employees part, a BIGGER mistake on my part for not doing a walk through of the car when I picked it up on Saturday morning. Lesson learned the hard way! Always no matter who it is, do a quick walk around when picking up your car from anyone! :/ Will I go back, yes!. Will i do a walk through before and after picking up my car, HELL YESSSSS. ------ Sam - don't be mad bro! Just trying to keep it real. You're still the man! lol..ill see you at 17K. Don't take revenge on me then! LOL read more

five stars for attitude. I was have a PMS kind of morning and not really feeling like discussing synthetic oil or half synth blah blah blah. So, I was kind of rude and told him to do whatever just to end my agony. I have several topics i can talk about for hours but mechanical stuff is just not for me. The owner took me in right away and said it would be a quick job. He delivered. Not only that but He was totally understanding. I apologized for my moodiness and he said it was no problem. I am not saying go verbally abuse the guy, no way!!! This is just a place that knows people, knows their business, is quick, efficient, and affordable. I am definitely going back for my next oil change. You should too!!!! Support this man's business because he deserves it! read more

Went for 120K car service...Excellent service and very reasonable cost...Thanks to Chris This will be my place for all future oil changes and service read more

Me and my spouse always get an oil change from here. They are very fairly priced and do a great job I am updating my review for this place. It used to be my foot place but I needed to update my review a while back. A while back the management changed. We used to work with the mechanic Goldberg, he's a genuine guy. The owner Sam is money minded and rude and his focus is only on making the most out of every visit. We don't go there anymore. As for oil change, many other places do a good job. For repairs i now go to B2 perfection. They are really good. Give these guys a miss read more

They identified the issue, fixed it within three hours without an appointment ahead of time, and the price was very reasonable. Staff was friendly as well. I'd highly recommend this place. read more

Went here on a Sunday for an oil change, service was good and Sam was very friendly. He wasn't pushy on other services like most mechanics can be. Definitely would recommend this place for anyone who wants to be treated fairly with good service. read more

Found this place based on their great yelp reviews and they do live up to their reputation! I came here on a Saturday afternoon for an oil change, dropped off my car and started to wander to downtown Sunnyvale to kill time during oil change. Within 10 mins of dropping off my car, Sam called and notified me that my radiator was actually failing and I needed a new one. I asked if it was possible to get this fixed over the weekend and it was replaced same day! Sam was very accommodating and made multiple calls to suppliers to find a supplier who could send a matching radiator for my car to their shop the same day. I really appreciated the quick and friendly service. Thanks! read more

Great experience, got me in quickly and on late notice for an oil change on a Saturday afternoon and it was done in no time!

I went in with my girlfriend's car, whose rear wheels were making a screeching sound once a while. The technician at First Auto Service had a quick glance at the car and immediately recommended a full replacement of the brake pads and rotors on all 4 wheels for $600+ (and was very insistent about it). Problem is the rotors are in pristine condition (no visible wear) and were changed just a few months ago... This shop may have raving reviews on Yelp but such an obvious oversell attempt is a deal breaker for me. read more

My car was having some battery issues on Mother's Day a.m., and I knew I should get it replaced asap. We took the car to First Auto Service that same day and we're super glad we did! Sam was really friendly and accommodating to squeeze us in last minute. The service was fast (probably about 20-30 minutes, tops) and really affordable. There was no b.s. - very honest/fast service. I highly recommend taking your car to First Auto Service. read more

I broke down across the street in the mall parking lot. While I was there under my hood, one of the employees (Andy) noticed me and came over to help. After helping me tinker for 5 minutes he said he worked at the shop and would help me push it there (either I get it up and running or they would fix it for me the next day). The owner, Sam, was locking up when we pushed the car in. Andy helped me tinker around for another 10-15 minutes and then I decided to throw in the towel and let them fix it. Left my key under the door with a note and left. Car up and running the next day by 3PM. Sam and Andy were both very helpful and accommodating. The rates charged for diagnostic and repair were very reasonable given Bay Area rates and the part was par with the price from a reputable parts dealer. All in all, I was very happy to have broken down there. Didn't have to order a tow, wait, figure out where to take it, etc. and was dealt with fairly and reasonably. read more

Quick service, reasonable price, no hidden charges. Definitely would go again and highly recommend it.

Came in around 2pm for an oil change. No wait whatsoever. Did it while I waited. Prompt, courteous service plus a discount for checking-in via Yelp. Can't beat that. I was visiting from out of town and wanted a reputable place. These guys are great! read more

Update: The shop owner, Sam, and his staff are all great and friendly people who have a passion for cars. Here's why you want to come here: 1) Sam's an honest guy and will always be honest in what needs replacing, what doesn't, and what may in the near future. He never pressures you to do anything. 2) His prices are very reasonable. Especially when you compare them to all the other garages here fed by car-clueless 6 figure tech worker salaries. 3) He opens on weekends. Seriously guys. Weekends. In the Bay Area. He has never turned me down for a job and has always been a great guy to talk to. Respectful & courteous. I will continue to come here whenever I run into problems with my BMW. read more

They always ask for make sense prices and are very helpful after the service. One of my car fixes was not working as expected and Sam was driving by to help and followed up after few days. They are responsibly! read more

Excellent! I just had my VW suspension replaced on all four wheels. Fast same-day service. Very knowledgeable & professional. Much cheaper than the dealer. This is now my favorite repair shop. read more

They don't know how to fix car. Fix any unnecessary parts, that's cheat money. Even damage car. But they are good service. They try to fix it again if you return. But I don't have confidence. After I write the review, the owner is very friendly, call me go back to check the car. He say he find a new mechanic. They are good service. But my car fixed good by another mechanic already. So, thanks. read more

Sam had great customer service, very knowledgeable and most importantly, no BS! Definitely recommend for your BMW service needs. Thanks Sam for your great help, I'll be coming back! read more

Not bad, yelped a random Oil Change spot since I was overdue and I called an hr ahead to let them know I needed a change during my lunch break. Good service and they worked within the time frame I requested. $30 out the door and I'm good for the next 3 months. Thanks! I'll be back!! read more

The service here was great!! Very affordable and quick. It was refreshing to find a mechanic as knowledgeable, honest and fair as these guys! read more

I have been coming here for complicated Auto repairs that I can't fix myself. Sam and his staff are competent workers that knows what they are doing. I have full trust in Sam when I need help with my vehicles. Will definitely refer people to First Auto. read more

Sam and his crew were very straight-forward when explaining the issues with my car, and the repair was done only in a few hours (dropped off the car in the afternoon, done by the end of the day). They were not pushy about it optional repairs at all - I will probably go back in a few months because of that. Glad to have this shop close to my house. :) read more

$20 oil change for my van. Can't beat the price! Came here early Saturday morning, dropped off the car, walked around the farmers market and when I got back, it was done. Friendly service too. What more can you ask for? read more

Sam is definitely the most helpful mechanic I have spoken to in the area. I'm pretty new to the Bay Area. Sam and team provides excellent service. But more than just the technical service, he provides great advice - I recently bought a used car. He keeps me and definitely the car in check! I greatly appreciate his hard work and dedication. Highly recommended! read more

Excellent service! I was having headlight issues and the guys did a great job. They were quick, helpful, and friendly. Gave me an estimate, broke it down, and when the bill arrive it matched the estimate. The communication is great and their service was quite prompt and trouble free. I have 2007 Honda Odyssey and replaced brake pad and rotors for all 4. I found this place due to the location and the fact that they were open on Sundays. I've never been a huge fan of the chain-type shops, where they waste so much time trying to up sell you. Sam was great, he got my car in, oil changed in under 30 minutes and under $30. Sam mentioned a repair that I should consider doing in the future, but didn't pressure me to have it done at that time. I appreciated that, and it motivates me to want to go back to him, and give him my business. I definitely recommend! read more

Great place highly recommend. I started at oil changers around the corner but they insisted on synthetic oil for $79. I left and came here instead. They were super friendly and helpful. My car is new enough that it doesn't need synthetic and the changed my oil quickly for $22. read more

Prompt and courteous, great attention to detail. A lot cheaper than I expected for the repair. I recommend.

When I need my car service, I don't really care if the shop is rated #1. I do care that the service staff should be knowledgable, have positive attitude, and complete service within reasonable time. On a Saturday morning 9:30 I seem to have hard time finding a shop with the quality I'm looking for, but I found it all here. Awesome service and will recommend friends to come here for sure. read more

This place is great! Open Sundays and really nice people who know what they are doing and straight forward diagnostic and interaction!

The team here is honest and hard working. Sam and his crew provide good customer service, and the place is becoming by go-to place.

Having a repair shop in walking distance from home is very cool. having it run by a friendly and guy (Sam) is even cooler. I needed an oil change and was able to drive in no appt and be done within an hour. read more

I called them few days earlier than my "appointment" to make sure the can replace my cabin airfilter and oil change. The guy rudely told me in the phone that "why are we talk about it? Just come in.." I was okay. Then on the day of my appointment found out, they don't have cabin airfilter on stock and they have to order it... and by the way someone's car is already there, so I have to wait for the oil change. what??? I'll never go back! Moreover, my husband was with me and heard everything,he won't go back either. Good job guys! read more
