The last time I had an oil change they ran the codes and told me that I would have to get my entire catalytic converter and leaky radiator replaced or I would fail my next inspection, and quoted me $2300. So when the check engine light popped at EXACTLY the right time to cause my inspection to fail, I panicked and assumed that I would have to throw a ton of money at my poor little car to keep it street legal... ...enter Bradley's Auto Service, who diagnosed it as a simple exhaust leak. For less than the price of what AAA quoted me for the radiator alone they repaired the leak, replaced the radiator, and re-inspected the car (it passed this time, wooohooo!) in one afternoon. Now I don't have to worry about being pulled over, having poor commuters get stuck behind me while merging on the parkway because it takes fifteen minutes to get up enough inertia to go the speed limit, or waking up the whole neighborhood while driving down the street. And the whole thing has stopped shaking like it's about to explode which is a nice perk too I guess. Thank you Bradley's Auto! I am eternally grateful for your honesty and efficiency. Everyone always tells me that I can potentially get another 100k miles out of this car if I have it cared for properly and I was incredibly skeptical until today. What a huge relief.

I'm not from the area, so I took the tow truck driver's advice and told him to tow it to L and M. I dropped my car off on a Saturday afternoon when they were closed. With the key, I left a detailed note explaining what happened to the car and the exact service I wanted them to perform. I clearly told them to replace my alternator. I spoke to someone from the shop Monday morning when they opened for business. They said they would start looking at the car sometime that same day. A short while before close of business Monday I called about my car because no one had called about it. They tell me they didn't get a chance to look at it at all. Tuesday morning rolls around and I get a call before noon telling me that they ran a $180 diagnosis to figure out I needed an alternator. Really? Yes, I know that. I told you specifically when I dropped the car off Saturday my alternator died. They then started going over prices to do the job. The best they could do was $500 for a rebuilt alternator that sells online for less than $300. Also, supposedly my 2 year old battery wasn't holding a charge, so they would have to replace that. By the end of the phone call, with parts, labor, and the extra fee they hit me with to find out what I asked them to do was in fact true, I was looking at a $1364.09 bill. At this point, I should have had my car towed to my house to do the work myself, but that would have cost a lot because I don't live close to the shop. I told them to start working on the car and they said they would order the parts that day and maybe start working on the car Wednesday. No sense of urgency whatsoever. Wednesday goes by and I didn't hear from them. Thursday I called around noon or so. They said they got the parts Wednesday and someone was working on it. Got the parts Wednesday? I could have gone to a local auto parts store, got the battery and alternator, and dropped them off Monday. Multiple locations had the parts in stock. I politely asked they call me back when the car was done. Before close of business Thursday I received a call saying the car was done and my total was $1,364.09 and asked if I wanted to pay over the phone. I said I would pay when I picked it up. I was unable to get the car until Monday morning. When I arrived to pick the car up, I explained my displeasure with the extra charges and how long it took to fix my car. I offered to pay $1000 cash, which I felt was a reasonable amount for the work performed. The owner didn't care about my displeasure, and felt confident with the overpriced bill. The one star I gave goes to the mechanic that I presume did a good job with fixing my car? We'll find out I guess.

Unsafe work, hostile service, and zero accountability -- Avoid this shop!…read moreI went to Mavis Discount Tire for an oil change a month ago. Shortly after, I noticed a spot under my truck, but assumed it was water due to continuous rain. Once the weather dried up, I checked again and found a fresh spot under my vehicle. When I looked underneath, I was shocked to find my oil filter was hanging on by its last threads. Had it fallen off while driving, my engine would have been completely ruined. I called the store, and they told me to come in. To their credit, they pulled it right into the bay, retightened the loose filter, and topped off the oil (though after driving with a loose filter for weeks, they really should have replaced the oil entirely). The real issue started right after I left. Realizing I needed documentation in case this caused long-term engine damage, I called them back--less than a minute after driving off--to request a simple service receipt showing what they had just fixed. The employee on the phone completely dismissed my concern, telling me, "You already left, so you're beat." When I explained that I just wanted written proof that they corrected their own mistake, he accused me of "doing too much" and refused to document the visit. When I asked to speak to a manager, the employee didn't even put me on hold--he threw the phone onto the desk, talked trash about me to a coworker within full earshot, came back, and lied, saying the manager was busy. When I mentioned I heard everything he said, he told me again that they weren't writing anything up, and hung up on me. I immediately called Mavis Corporate to report the issue. They opened a ticket, but offered no real resolution or documentation either. This store delivered dangerous service, admitted to their oversight, and then treated me with absolute hostility and disrespect when I asked for basic documentation to protect my vehicle. Save yourself the headache and take your car somewhere that values safety, basic professionalism, and accountability.
