We brought our vehicle there for tires a while back, and the work wasn't that bad. So when we needed a synthetic oil change and new spark plugs, we returned. It was kind of pricey. Five quarts of synthetic oil cost $11.00 a gallon. It's about $7.00 at Walmart. Four plugs cost $39.96. With labor, the total cost was $165.19. By comparison, we did the same six months ago, in Oldsmar Walmart, and it cost $49.88. They also showed us a sparkplug they'd replaced. It looked like it had been covered in oil. The salesman then printed up an "Estimate" of the things he suggested we get done to our van very quickly, implying we'd be in peril if we didn't get it done soon. This included Flushing the cooling system and adding new coolant, (We'd done that a month ago) changing the cabin air filter, whatever the hell that is, a "battery corrosion package (We bought a new battery last month and bought a $3.00 corrosion protection kit), they wanted to remove and replace a tie rod, replace engine gaskets, and do various other work on our 2006 vehicle. The total cost was $722 and change. We said, "Thanks, we'll get back to you. The next day, we went to Mike's Dealer Alternative Auto, Inc., at 715 Main St., Dunedin, and asked the owner, Michael Ritt, who is an ASE Master and Former GM Master, to see if he could do the work less expensively. He said he'd check it out. Later, he called us back and said "I've checked your van stem to stern. It's in perfect running order. You don't need any work." We thanked him effusively, and then went to his shop to pick it up. He pulled out a folder with papers in it, and then handed us the key. I asked him what we owed him, and he said, "I just checked it out. There's NO CHARGE FOR THAT. After I picked myself up off the floor, I said, "Can I at least give you 20 bucks to buy some beer?" and he said, "I wouldn't turn it down" with a fiendish grin on his face. My advice is this----Don't even think about Firestone. Not a thought! And get your self and your car to Mike Ritts Place, at 715 Main St., Dunedin, to get and honest job for a very fair price. Good Luck! read more
