The fireplace in our house in Galveston was installed by Fireplace Man when built. They have come for a few service calls and always do a great job. On a call we requested in late July they identified an unexpected issue that was helpful in solving a problem. Sam & Sylvia were terrific and clearly certified and experienced. Avoid these scammers. Hired them to completely revamp my gas fireplace $1100 last year. Like many other reviews, same issue happened to me. Went to use it, nothing. Went to check it and found the control box was sparking/arching openly due to it being wrongly installed and allowed to be burned up. These scammers purposefully do shoddy work, then won't fix it without charging 1/3 the install cost to just come and "look" at it. No thanks, avoid this very rude place at all cost. Competitor of theirs is coming out to fix their bad install and is charging less that 1/4 of their "look" at it fee. Update 10/13: Great business practice blame the customer. And instead of asking "what is the issue or we'd be happy to look into it being a true installer competency issue," no. You go straight to warranty terms and what I the customer allegedly did wrong. Reason for a year later? It's Houston, Texas fireplaces are not used often. Funny how our other house has a similar set up that's been working flawlessly for 9 years now (installed by a competitor). To the root cause of the complaint, competition of theirs came out confirmed the control box was not installed properly. A cover was forget that shielded the electrical wires leaving them to be burnt up. Fireplace man you should maybe stop blaming customers and check/validate the installation training of technicians. Another found issue is pricing, competition replaced and installed a like for like control box correctly for a little less than half the cost of what Fireplace man sold it to me. I have been using this company for many many years. I have had fireplaces built in my home, glass screen doors replaced, outdoor gas lights installed, repairs, chimneys cleaned..you name it, they've done it. It saddens me to see the negative posts on here, I have never had any problems .The owner is a gem, the people that work for him have been around for years, and are most helpful. When I looked for a store that sold a brand of gas grill I was seeking, this was the only place in town listed by the manufacturer. The previous Yelp ratings were the worst I've ever seen for any one business. Quite an accomplishment. My choice was to believe others' experience or go over and check it out. I went to the store. The owner was very pleasant. Yes, he's a character, as anyone in retailing for years is likely to be! There were no outbursts with customers or frantic phone conversations with daughters. The place looks fine, not "warehouse-y" as described in one review, but it is, after all, a grill and fireplace shop, not a BMW showroom. The owner didn't disparage the competition, even big box stores that sold grills for just a few hundred dollars. He cut me a very good deal on a discontinued grill, and I could not resist the price. The installer came out the very next day and did the job well. The latter says he's worked for the company for 13 years, and he know exactly what he was doing. So, maybe like me, if you need a grill or fireplace you won't let the earlier awful ratings discourage you. I had a very good experience, the price was excellent (for an expensive grill), and service was totally fine. read more

There don't seem to be very many stores in Houston (understandably!) specializing in fireplace installation, gas logs, etc, but we stopped in here. The store is located on the feeder road of the SW Frwy and is easy to miss. It's a single story building nestled amongst other smaller businesses in a gritty area. They have quite a display here of the various gas log configurations in the various sizes, which is helpful for visualization. Ray helped us, and he was very knowledgeable. They, also, do outdoor kitchen and fireplace installations. We ended up not buying anything, but truthfully, yes, maybe you can buy these things cheaper at Lowe's or Home Depot, but the choice is very limited and the salespeople don't have a clue. I would suggest going to a place like the Fireplace Man that specializes in this sort of thing. read more

I paid these guys $358.00 in January to fix my fireplace and used it only 10 times (maybe) after that before the summer.Turned it back on to test it this week and it wouldn't come on. Called the company and was told very rudely that "it only has a 30 day warranty". After talking to a guy on the phone, he said he would be out later that day to take another look at it. He spent maybe 10 minutes actually working on the unit, got it to working and then said it needed a new remote. The old remote seemed to be working fine before but the fireplace just wouldn't ignite. After paying another $380, I am now out almost $800 to fix it. These guys are high-priced cheats and I would recommend ANYBODY else unless you want to pay an extremely exorbitant amount for a miniscule amount of work. read more

These people are professional scam artists and every negative review has a consistent theme - they take your money and move on forgetting about customer service and quality of work. My suggestion, do not under any circumstance pay up front until until the work is done and you are satisfied. I had them come to my house to inspect and repair my fireplaces and fix a roof leak - they did come to my house after having to wait three weeks and when they arrived, they quickly found excuses why they could not finish the work but still took my money. When I called the office to get the report and to figure out the next steps to make the necessary reported repairs, crickets for nearly a month until I finally demanded to know what was going on. A person named Eddy finally admitted they were not going do anything and considered my service complete. I thankfully used a credit card to pay which the credit card refunded my money and I had to hire a different outfit who came to my house, re-inspected the units and found nothing to be wrong with the units and ultimately they fixed the leak in the roof. These people are truly horrible and dishonest and their President - Michelle Birnbaum - is a bully who sends nasty demand letters with lies to try to force your hand and intimate the customer. Spent $780 with this company, ordered a outside fire place burner mentioning I had a engagement party on that Sunday (5 days away), they said no problem, we can have that arrive, usually takes 2-3 days at most. Paid them, did not hear a word in response of delivery, called them day after order, no response, called them again three days out. I got a return call two hours after I spoke to the sales rep, stating they could not have it in time, ordered wrong burner and I would need to pay $150 to expedite the delivery. My issue with this company is the following: 1) Don't miss represent delivery time when people schedule contractors which cost money 2) If you order wrong item, call and inform the client 3) When you call the client and say you ordered wrong part, don't say they owe $150 in an expedite fee to accommodate the initial delivery date 4) Company attempted to split the expedite fee, issue is that I already rescheduled my plumber which cost me another $150. They stated "we obviously can't make you happy," well, that isn't true. I spent $500 outside of the burner on glass rocks, that is a huge profit margin for the company... so don't complain you won't make any money on a burner that you didn't order correctly. I will not do business with them again, they hung up on me and were rude when realized I was cancelling my order after I was told to spend more money to accommodate their mess up. Their response was is "we are all human and we make mistakes". That is totally true, but companies aren't run on the principal of people making mistakes and you have to pay more because of it. I wish this would of been a good purchase, I wanted to spend money with them, the inability to follow up with a client, as well as, fix an issue that was a mistake, then hangs up on you, leads me to believe if anything goes wrong with a product, you are on your own. read more

I have a gas fireplace that needed to have a piece replaced. The repair was started by another company, but due to a serious lack of professionalism and poor communication, I needed to find another company to come and repair my fireplace. I contacted the fireplace man and they were able to send the technician Mike out to my house within 1.5-2 hrs after my initial phone call. Mike was very professional and extremely knowledgeable. He repaired my fireplace rather quickly, and also informed me of some things to be aware of (I've never had a gas fireplace before), including how to keep the glass of my fireplace clean and making sure I was aware that my fireplace may give off an odor for a little while. Overall I was extremely pleased with the service that I received and the speed with which someone was able to be dispatched to my home. While I hope my fireplace is never in need of repairs again, if it is I will be contacting the fireplace man to take care of it! read more

I have been a long time customer as I am the manager of an HOA that has gas lights throughout our community and lots of chimneys to sweep. Purchased some gas mantels on Nov 8, 2018 because I was contacting someone to come and service, clean all of our gas lamps. Took me forever to find someone and turned out their fee included the mantels. Today, December 6, 2018, I attempted to return the 11 very small fully intact packages of mantels and when I approached the counter someone behind the desk immediately responded when I mentioned the word "return." She abruptly told me they have a strict policy about returns and have had this policy for YEARS. After speaking to someone she shook my receipt in her hands pointing out the return policy and told me it had been too long anyway and nobody takes returns after so long. WRONG! It had been less than 30 days. Many businesses are customer-oriented and understand things happen and accept returns 30-60-90 days after purchase or at least offer store credit. Not this place. Join the 21st century Fireplace Man and put your customers first not a very small box of inventory that takes up so little space in your inventory. This business just lost me as a customer FOREVER along with potential customers I might recommend. read more

I used these guys before and they charged me $225 for a service call to replace a wall switch that cost $6 at Home Depot. On another appointment that I called about a 1 minute delay after turning on the wall switch. I researched it on line and a professional said that it could be a thermocouple 20 (+\-)millivolts a thermopile 750 (+\-) millivolts. The technician called and said he was on his way and asked if he had a volt meter with him to check the thermocouple or the thermopile He said "no." He said he had one but did not bring it with him. I requested to reschedule the appointment for a later date so that he could bring his voltmeter to check. Well this dd not sit well with the owner who called and said that she was going to cancel my appointment because she said "never before in my 40 years did someone call to tell them how to fix the fireplace." I said to her, "no respect ma'am but I'm like to be an educated consumer and will not be sold something that I did not need." I researched online to get a second opinion." This did not sit well with her and said, "if you know how to fix it then I will cancel your appointment. Poor attitude and so proud. This company does not like educated consumers and charged way too much for services that few can do. That's why they charge such high prices. Even my auto mechanic or my air conditioner repair person does not charge that much....highway robbery I say. read more

He walked off without a word proceeded to talk on phone and argue with his daughter about her automobile, behind the counter. O.M.G. These people are at my house right now (for the second time in a month). The original problem was just that my fireplace wouldn't turn on. So this guy comes out and bangs around in there for a while (I was hoping he wasn't breaking anything), talked non stop about his life and things I did NOT need to know that had nothing to do with why he was here. He is condescending and his butt crack is out the whole time. I had to call them back out because the fireplace comes on, but NOW it has an odor that burns my nose and gives me and instant headache. I can't even be in the room while he's working because he is insisting that it takes "30 minutes to warm up"! So I am closed off in a room upstairs so I don't get sick. I don't care about his lawyer friend, I don't care about his cat, I don't want to hear his stories and jokes, I just want my fireplace fixed. Frustrated. If this somehow works out, I will update, but for now, NOT good. read more

This company provided me with the worst business experience of my life. I talked to the owner (Eddie) on the phone about 3 gas lanterns in the backyard that didn't work. He tried to get me to agree to a price on the phone, but I told him I didn't know what the problem was so I couldn't agree to a price. They ended up charging me for fixing three gas lines when they only fixed one. When I talked to the owner on the phone, he told me that I had agreed to a price on the phone. When I said I didn't, he told me I didn't know what I was talking about. He was extremely rude and vulgar with regard to language. Do not use the Fireplace Man off 59. Horrible communication and customer service. I spoke to the owner Michelle several times and she could have cared less. We went in over six weeks ago and spoke to a sales rep. We wanted our fireplaces outfitted with new burners with remote controls and new embers. We have the logs and told all at the time of order we were reusing the logs. We also asked if they could put a coating of fire safe paint in the box because we were unsure of what was currently there. The sales guy Tom, told us all of this was no problem. Come to find out they won't install logs that are not theirs and they told me I'd have to wait for the paint to peel off to determine its fire proofness (seems Totally safe ). I call the owner, Michelle. She tells me the reasons for not installing logs that we didn't purchase from them. She tells me I need to sign an agreement that they are not liable for anything faulty that may result from the logs. Not happy as this is the first I've heard of this but ok. At this point i don't want to reschedule as it's been long enough. We go along another few weeks. Install is today. I get a call from the tech on his way to my house, that he doesn't have all the parts to complete the install and he won't be able to install the existing logs. Again I call the owner, Michelle. She tells me shes real sorry that the entire install wasn't ready. They knew two weeks ago it wasn't all here and shes not sure why the sales guy didn't call me. And again she's sorry she didn't document the tickets for the tech to go ahead and install the logs. But they can come back in a week or two and complete it all. Keep in mind I'd cleared our schedule to Make sure we were there for the install (which had been scheduled for six weeks). Keep in mind I had to continually reach out to them for updates. No one ever called me. The most frustrating experience I've ever had with a company. The lack of communication and costumer service was astounding. The only thing I will say is they refunded me everything. bUT I will NEVER use them again or recommend them to anyone. So disappointed. Be warned. read more

I called The Fireplace Man to repair my DCS gas grill. The rep I spoke with said they could clean it for $800, or could repair it if parts were required. He also commented that DCS grills were extremely expensive to repair, and he suggested that, for that reason, the most practical thing to do was probably to buy a new grill from The Fireplace Man. I looked on Yelp and saw the bad reviews; then called K&N Sales. They had a DCS Fisher & Paykel repairman come over who cleaned and repaired the grill for $336. While I can't be exactly certain what The Fireplace Man would have charged, I was glad I didn't use them. read more
